Prince Charles: Ban McDonald's Food

While on a visit to the United Arab Emirates, Prince Charles has suggested that banning McDonald's might help public health.
Charles was visiting a diabetes research center as part of a public health campaign.
"Have you got anywhere with McDonald's? Have you tried getting it banned? That's the key," Charles was quoted as asking one of the center's nutritionists.
If he said that in the US, McDonald's would have him for dessert.

I bet that he likes eating it & even his kids adore this fast food.
ReplyI really like the implication that MacDonalds is the main source of obesity and diabetes in the UAE. Their own diet involves tons of white rice, fats, and Middle Eastern pastries (offered to all guests at every moment due to commercial production). My father in law is Iraqi and eats almost nothing but home-made Iraqi food. He's had diabetes for years, and it runs in his family (along with obesity).
ReplyNot to mention that modern UAE has every cuisine known to man. I never understand why people act as if the "Western Diet" is the source of all evils health-wise, when most Westerners eat a different cuisine at every meal (Chinese, Indian, Greek, Japanese, etc...). They are just eating too much food, no matter what it is.
Well, another big part of the problem is that most Americans (not all Westerners) don't exercise enough. The problem is the way we've laid out our cities and the way we tend to live in suburbs. Nobody walks anywhere. In most other countries people live within walking distance of everything they need to get to on a daily basis. Not that exercise can totally counteract the effects of extra food, but it certainly helps.
ReplyJim...'one of his boys' was Prince Harry - a bit of a wild lad anyway trying to have a normal life. Prince Charles would not be shocked, why do you think that? His sons and he are not on good standing anyway...they are independent thinkers too (as he certainly is).
Btw, he was not just singling out McDonalds - but any junk food chain.
As far as Brits and their food...common fact is that the major problem with their everday eating habits is the grease and fried foods, too many starches...and the booze (ales and a steady flow of hard liquor). Combine that with little exercise...
Like somebody else mentioned...eating too much food too often is always a problem.
ReplyIf you ban McDonald's, you are banning a food company or a restaurant. Why not ban Burger King, Wendy's, TGI Fridays, Bennegins, or restaurants. All McDonald's needs to do is to deliver healthier foods such as fruits and vegtables, make the buns whole grains, and grill the burgers. Sure you still need meat and cheese in your diet, but too much fried stuff is what makes you fat and sick. But banning the golden arches isn't the answer.
ReplyPATRICIA YES HE WASW SINGLING OUT MCDONALD'S READ THE STORY!!
