Carrots: The New Building Material

Two Scottish scientists have managed to convert the humble carrot in a building material. The material (called "Curran") could be used to make fishing rods, snowboards, and even battleship components.
At the moment, the company can make materials which are around 80 per cent carrot, with carbon fibre making up the remainder. The new "Just Cast" rods are around 50 per cent carrot - each made with around 2kg of the vegetables.

I had to check my watch to make sure it wasn't April 1st...
Carrots in car parts and corn in the gas tank? I guess we know what to do with our leftovers now.
ReplyI'll let my husband know about this one. He designs trucks...I'll tell him to use the carrot stuff instead of steel. Any news on how strong it is?
ReplyWell, this is nice and all, but carbon fiber is not cheap at all, so even if the material is only 20% carbon fiber, it will be pretty expensive.
