Enviga: An Expensive Diet Soda

Enviga is the "calorie-burning" drink from Coca-cola and Nestle. The claim that it can cause a negative calorie effect has always been dubious. A few months back I thoroughly examined the weight loss claims and noted that the full research had still not been released.
The full study has now been published (OBESITY Vol. 15 No. 2 February 2007) and shows that the outcome was not quite as successful as the marketing slogans imply.
For starters - there is no fat burning:
Although the primary objective, to demonstrate that the mixture of ingredients would increase 24-hour fat oxidation, was not achieved [...] p. 353
Then there is the fact that 6 of the 31 subjects actually had less energy expenditure (i.e. they burned less calories - p. 353 Figure 2).
If you read through most of the study - the conclusions seem very flimsy indeed. Essentially a small bunch of healthy normal weight men and women had slightly increased energy expenditure after drinking a lot of caffeine with some green tea catechins.
That in itself doesn't really mean a lot.
Anyone heard of Adaptive Thermogenesis?

that is good to hear because that stuff tastes awful!!
ReplyI like the set point theory! I also hope one can reset it with a consistent effective behavior.
ReplyI've heard it's pretty good, actually.
ReplyUnbelievable
Marketing claims that don't hold water?
Thanks for constantly exposing this.
ReplyI agree it tastes awful. I just wanted to try it because I like energy drinks, not for any weight loss purposes.
ReplySafeway was just selling these for 50 cents each. I bought about 50 of them total. I am a total energy drink nut, so that's a lot better than 2.50 a piece. They are pretty good, but I don't think I'll continue to buy them once they go up to normal price.
ReplyI told everyone that dopes like this are the key factor of Marketing. I have a tastier alteranive: Try Stavia-sweetened Water instead.
ReplyThank god i read that! I saw that stuff on display at Fry's market and i bought one thinking that it would be a good deal. how wrong was I! It taste horrible!!! Glad to know it does no good!
Replythe only thing "fat burning" about this drink is it has green tea extract added..WOW big deal..if oyu look at ingredients, legally, the first ingredient means theres the most of that in the drink and the last ingredient is the least amount of that in the drink..the green tea extract is close to being last so there's barely any in there..
best diet soda EVER
Nutrisoda Slender..
i can't believe Nutrisoda isn't more popular then it is cuz its amazing and they have such a freakin variety..i think the web is
nutrisoda.com
ReplyGreen tea is great stuff, but two of the nastiest beverage companies in the world are just trying to exploit it. After learning what Nestle was doing with baby formula in Africa, I haven't had any of their products in over 15 years. Looking at the ingredient list, there are some really bad ones in there, especially aspartame (aka Nutrasweet). From what I understand it has a cumulative effect in the system, and leads to both cancer and Alzheimer's.
ReplyI WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MUCH THIS DRINK COST AND WHAT IS THE PHONE NUMBER AND IF YOU CAN HIT ME BACK BECAUSE I NEED RAEL BAD
