What is Zumba?
Apparently almost 1 million Americans have taken Zumba classes. Zumba is a style of intense dance-aerobics workout with pulsating latin music.
"It's a party," Jones said in trying to describe Zumba (pronounced ZOOM-buh), which is Colombian slang for "fast." "It emulates being in a nightclub without the drinking, the smoking, the bad pickup lines." (via Yahoo)
To be honest just visiting the Zumba site had me grooving in my office chair.
The 60-minute program incorporates footwork and body movements from flamenco, salsa and other dances. Participants pump their legs, windmill their arms, gyrate their hips, clap their hands, dip, slide and spin — all to a frenzied beat that leaves them with flushed cheeks and dripping in sweat.
Anything that gets you up and moving is a good thing.
Has anyone taken a Zumba class? Looks like a lot of fun!

I really like the classes, it's a great workout and the people you meet are great. I want to order some videos but you can't give up the feeling of doing it with other people.
ReplyZumba rocks! I've been doing it for just a few months and I've lost 25 pounds (of course, I've also been eating healthy). The live classes are best, but the dvd's are great too. To answer the question about being overweight, there are all shapes and sizes in my zumba class. I personally started off needing to lose about 60 pounds and I'm nearly halfway there! I have never liked aerobic exercise, but with Zumba I actually look forward to it. I am participating in a 2-hour Zumbathon in a couple of weeks. If you had told me a few months ago that I could do high-impact cardio for 2 hours straight, I would have said you were crazy!
Replywe did a zumba-thon (we called it a zumba fest.) a few weeks ago, it was 3 hours long and sooo much fun. we had a few different instructors there. there is another in my area tonight but alas i cannot go. and we are planning another one in august. you will have a blast
Replyi would like to try Zumba but do not want to invest in a new DVD. How can I get a used DVD?
ReplyI've been doing Zumba twice a week now for about three months. I've lost 14 pounds! It is the most fun you'll ever have working out! Also, I have a really bad knee. I had my ACL replaced three years ago and still have alot of issues with it, and if I can do Zumba, anyone can! If a certain move is too stressful, you just don't do it, you just dance! You're there to get in shape and have fun, no one expects you to be perfect! Plus our instructor, Victor, is definetly the best!
ReplyI'm really interested in taking Zumba at my local fitness center, but I was wondering if it's hard for a beginner to catch on? I'm not in the greatest shape, but I'd love to get more exercise than just PE and shed a few pounds or two. Oh, and I'm a highschooler--are there a lot of teens who do this, or is it mostly adults?
ReplyHi there!!!I just want you to know that I do teach Latin aerobics in our local gym.And yup there are young and old people in my class most of them don't mind!Just keep it up and enjoy after all its your body not theirs!!!
Replymacflurry77@yahoo.com
Just wondering if you are still teaching latin aerobics. If so where and what times?
thanks
ReplyI participated in my very first Zumba class tonight. I loved it. I have been working out at a regular gym with weights and riding a stationary bicycle for a couple of months without a lot of results, especially in the midsection. This class wore out my midsection. Loved it! Recommend it!
ReplyI have been taking the Zumba classes for two months. It is a plethora of fun!! The music makes keep on going.I already lost 6 pounds and I am not overweighed or anything. Everyone should take the zumba class. It it a great workout for the whole body and it is fun.
ReplyI have taken one Zumba class and plan to take many more. I wonder what those of you who are more experienced think are the best kind of shoes for this class? The class at the gym I go to is held on a basketball court - so wood floors. My sneakers really stick too much for some of the movements, but I don't want to be slipping all around either. Any suggestions?
ReplyI looked into proper footwear for zumba, and our instuctor reccomends dance sneakers-- they give the right amount of traction for the moves. You can buy them anywhere they sell sneakers or cheerleading sneakers.
ReplyI am presently living in Florida getting ready to relocate to Philadelphia Pennsylvania and I am looking for zumba classes in Philadelphia. Can anyone send me a list of instructors....or tell me how to access a list. Thank you Dolores Durie

ReplyI really like to teach and introduce Zumba here in our place.I do teach latin aerobics and its great.I just want you to know that you can always share some basic steps with me.Thanks!!!
ReplyAnyone who has transitioned from step/aerobic/sports conditioning to a zumba class, can you please email your thoughts? I'm looking for how hard it was to use the 32/count music different than we would normally do for step...even with the cross phrasing and tapeless routines, some of the footwork seems difficult and it appears that you use the music differently. Any thoughts would be very helpful!

I was taking Zumba classes at a local gym for families and loved it so much I took a workshop to become an instructor. I will teach my first class Friday, November 1st. Can't wait!! There is a wide variety of people(sizes and shapes as well as fitness level). Ages 6-80 at the classes I attended. That is what I plan to stress in my classes as well as pacing oneself.
ReplyI want everyone to have fun while working out ,not drop dead. Zumba classes are awesome! I highly recommend them!! Please check out their website for info on a class near you: www.zumba.com
I LOVE ZUMBA!! I started Zumba a year ago and I haven’t stopped since. I look forward to my classes which I take three times a week for an hour each time. I’m completely addicted to it. I have had plenty of gym memberships that I usually let run out and end up losing money on them. Zumba is the most fun I have ever had exercising and the amount of calories you burn during a class is amazing. I was never really “over weight” but I did notice myself packing on a few extra pounds when I moved in with my boyfriend and found myself enjoying pizza and take out food with him way too many times a week. I decided to do something about it and I’m so happy I did. I have lost 25 pounds and EVREYONE tells me how great I look. More importantly I feel amazing; the classes gave me so much energy. There is a range of different women that attend the classes. Some old and some young some over weight and some that go just to tone up. The great thing about Zumba is the steps are simple enough that anyone can do them and do them at their own intensity. There are several women in the class that have lost up to 30 pounds. I really couldn’t believe it. Everyone is really supportive as well. My best friend started attending the classes with me and now I feel like we go out dancing not only at the weekend but 3 times during the week. We enjoy it so much we both have decided to become certified Zumba instructors. We are attending our training workshop in November and I look forward to helping and encouraging other women, if I could do it anyone can. Good luck everyone!!!
Replyte recomiendo las clases de zumba son exelentes para bajar de peso;tallas y el estres.
ReplyZumba is the best i love going with my mom. i know alot of people that go there and i really like the people that teach it. I hope that every one loves it like i do......
ReplyI LOVE ZUMBA
I took my first class this week, just walked into the gym I have been going to for years and the music and excitement in the room drew me in. I usually don't like group classes, but this is so infectious I want to go to every class now. I got on ebay to buy the tapes, but does anyone know which set you should buy?
ReplyI've been taking Zumba for three weeks now, and I'm completely hooked. It burns tons of calories, and it's tons of fun! Although I have 100 pounds to lose, I fully intend to pursue my Zumba Instructor certification by the end of the year. It is a great way to get exercise and have fun at the same time.
Replyi really want to try zumba out. i was wondering how much the classes cost?
ReplyI start doing zumba 5 days ago, and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

And have a good Zumba everybody!
I have been going to Zumba for 3 months now and I love it. It is and intense workout, but lots of fun. My instructor introduces a new song every week or two so that we don't get bored with the same routines. She breaks it down and once you get the basic Zumba steps, you are able to pick up songs so much fast. I felt comfortable in Zumba after just 2 weeks! It is a great workout! You should try it!
Replyi have been taking zumba since november. i absolutely love it. i have never been able to stick to an excersize program for long. a few years ago i did tae-bo but quickly got bored. i love zumba because every month or so she adds a new song and we have a whole new dance to learn. i love that part. in march i actually started a diet to go along with all the working out i was doing (i also do yoga) and i have lost a total of 20 pounds nad 16 inches. i do zumba 3 nights a week... for anyone who likes to move and shake it but not to do aerobics try it out. trust me, you will love it.

ReplyI live in South Africa and would like to buy Zumba fitness dvd,s can you please help me i dont come right on the internet. Tx Shirley
ReplyI checked into the gym where I am currently going, and there is only 1 class a week. Would love to start out with at least 2 classes a week. I am 52 years old, type 2 diabetic, and have 25 pounds to loose. Would the DVD's at least start me in the right direction? My hours of work vary so much that it would mean different times of the day to work out.
ReplyI don't know how to dance at all, is zumba hard to learn? i am afraid people will laugh at me, please help. any advise will do.
