Vibration Training for Weight Loss?
Every morning on my way to work, I walk past a "vibration studio". A few weeks ago, another studio appeared just a hundred meters from my office. Vibration training machines have piqued my curiosity. Can a machine that vibrates actually provide some health or weight loss benefit?
At first I viewed these devices with some skepticism. There seems to be no shortage of marketing information - but very little in the way of real-world experience. I'm also concerned about the potential for injury - especially in the hands of an inexperienced trainer or operator.
Lloyd Shaw, on the Whole Body Vibration Training blog has broached the subject of weight loss and Whole Body Vibration. It is a complex subject - but with the number of training studios suddenly appearing - it's time to try and get some answers.
Apparently the more advanced machines offer enough resistance to ultimately lead to an increase in BMR:
The more advanced response would be true "activation" (an anaerobic response) which would cause micro-tears in the muscles, leading to the healing cycle resistance trainers try hard to induce. It seems to me that the potential for fat-burning with a vibration training machine has to do with the "after-burn" - the energy that is burned after the session. This in turn has a hormonal effect causing your protein mass to increase which naturally raises your BMR. The aim of which is to burn more calories while resting.
Has anyone had experience with Whole Body Vibration training?

Hello All,
Just wanted to add my 2 years of experience in whole body vibration.
I have tried about 20 different models including noblerex k1, vibratrim, vibraslim, powerplate, turbosonic, hypergravity, soloflex, vibrafit, vibe plate, crazy fit massage and a few other oscillating models.
I have also gotten feedback from hundreds of people.
For under $5000 I really believe the Noblerex K1 is the best choice because it is an oscillating motion, commercial quality, strong 2hp motor, 14 mm amplitude and the frequency range is 7-28 hz.
If you try it side by side with other cheap oscillating models, you will notice it has a much stronger vibration.
If money is no object, I love the turbosonic. I also like the Galileo, Vibraflex(US version of Galileo).
Similar to the Turbosonic is the new Evolution which looks good also.

(lots of good info)
Take care

New Vibration studio to open in the West Midlands,
Replyhi everyone
Replyi have only used a vibrating machine a handfull of times at my local gym so do not really know from experience as to whether they promote weight loss or not, what i do know is that these machines are very good for people who suffer from M.S. Myself and my husband attented a m.s convention two years ago and the vibrating technology has been a huge success with m.s patients who have muscular weakness and have to use walking aids or a wheelchair,so if there are any m.s sufferers reading this i 100% recommend one of these machines.
Hi Helen,
Here is an actual testimonial from an MS sufferer using the Noblerex K1 (http://www.myk1.com)
Bryant,
Having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1970, I've had a long 30 years of exacerbation-remittance episodes with the disease. Although I am no longer taking any drugs, back in the 1970's the only treatment seemed to be a 19 day hospital stay while being administered experimental mega-doses of ACTH *(a steroid medication) that caused me to gain up to 89 pounds (in 19 days!) each time I suffered an exacerbation, and unable to lose it between exacerbations of MS. I tried for 37 years to lose the excess weight which was making me obese. I tried every "diet" I heard about...was on many diets prescribed by my medical doctors and even was taking prescribed diet "pills' for up to three years. The pills dried up the tear ducts and caused dry eyes; dried up my saliva until I had multiple dental problems and did NOT help me lose any of the weight. I often left the medical doctor's office in tears because he would not believe me when I said I followed his diet but didn't lose anything!
For 30 + years I tried anything and everything, I begged the doctors AND Neurologists to believe me and find the solution to my weight and inability to lose it. None had any answers. Fasting didn't help. Because of the Multiple Sclerosis, exercise was too big a challenge and could lead to fatigue which could lead to worsening of symptoms. With the help of a cane, for balance, I could walk from the house to the car, into a restaurant and back to the car... but I could not stand on my feet long enough to shop for groceries, prepare meals for my family, or do much "housekeeping" or anything else.
Then during one of our MS support meetings another MS patient told me she saw a demonstration of a whole body vibration machine on TV which was supposed to help people like me (who could not jog, walk very far, do aerobics or other exercises) but couldn't remember what it was called. I went home and began to browse the Internet for information. I found a lot of information including a K-1 machine for sale on eBay! I wrote to the seller--turned out it was you, Bryant, and you were living in my hometown!!!! ...so I made an appointment for a demonstration and within a couple of weeks had withdrawn money from my IRA to purchase one for myself. When I bought the K-1, I was using a cane, as prescribed by my doctor to prevent falls due to loss of balance.
I started out slowly, When I started, my balance was so poor that when I stood on the platform, I held on for dear life, fearing the vibration would send me flying off the machine. Sitting on a chair, I leaned down and rested both hands on the base for up to 5 minutes. Sometimes I would sit directly on the machine for 5-10 minutes. Gradually I lost my fear of falling off the machine if I stood on it..but I was careful to plant my feet carefully and hold on for balance.
The K-1 machine has done wonders for me. Now I can stand with my hands in my pockets and even turn around to some of the other positions recommended by the chart that came with the machine. Within a couple of months I was no longer using a cane, I was walking half a mile around the neighborhood park jogging trail and discovering that my clothes were getting loose!
I think I bought the machine in February and by July was walking 4 miles a day and no longer using a cane. My clothing went from "Triple X" size to "large" and you can imagine my delight at discovering I'd lost 9 inches around my stomach/hips and 4 1/2 inches around my upper arms. My energy had increased and I could now accompany my husband to the supermarket and enjoy shopping again!
Using the Noblerex K-1 machine really is an easy way to exercise in my own home without over using my muscles and causing an MS exacerbation. Using the Noblerex K-1 machine for 10 minutes 3 times each day helped me learn to balance and gave me the ability to control my gait, energized me to enable me to walk longer distances and helped me begin to lose some of the 278+ pounds I'd carried most of my life. I can now get up off the floor without help and walk sideways to a seat in an overcrowded theater! Over a 6 month period I did lose 60 pounds!
I believe that money spent for the K-1 is doing much more good for me than having it in an IRA! I am pleased that I have the machine and can use it. I feel it is an answer to a long uttered prayer and highly recommend it.
At 68 years of age, I have a new expectation of life..each day I'm growing younger instead of older!

ReplyI am 87 years old and need to improve my sense of balance, my bone density, and
my leg strength. I walk 3 miles a day, five days a week, but don't think I can continue this much longer in my present condition. Does anybody know enough about the OSCI Health WBV unit selling for $899.00 in the USA which uses an "oscillating vibrating platform" to accomplish its purpose? I have never used any
WBV equipment and am not familiar with its benefits, but I have read extensively
for the past week about such equipment.
Thanks for any suggestions. My price range is $1000.00 US. I realize this limits my choices.
ReplyI live in Namibia i am using vibro shape massage belt and work out 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes cardio excersice but I love the result as my but is more firm and iam not on special diet i just drink lots of water if you can't afford those power plate and other vibration machines for -+$10000 try the vibro shape its lovely and affordable
ReplyHi all,
I have been using the T-Zone Vibration fitness machine for almost two months now and I can agree with many people here that I have noticed that I am generally happier, in a better mood and am able to handle stress much better.
At first, I was only using vibration fitness (20 mins) in coordination with my usual workout three times per week. I noticed that I was toning almost immediately after beginning the vibration fitness, however, I have since incorporated more cardio workouts during the week and I have adjusted my eating habits and I have noticed that I am feeling stronger, losing inches, losing weight and feeling like a brand new person.
I strongly recommend vibration fitness to everyone for overall well being.
ReplyHi i have been using vibro plate for about 3months now 3 times a week. i had alot of cellulite on my thighs and wanted to lose some weight. my cellulite has been dramatically reduced and iv lost a few inches as well (im not a fan of scales so i dont know how much weight). because of the increased circulation my skin looks healthier too. i was actually amazed with the difference and no i have not changed my diet or started running 10miles a day my routine is still the same as it was. i really find it helps with tention build up as well as stiff joints which i have had all my life.
Replymaybe different people get different results but i swear by it.
hi, I have just purchased a vibration exercise machine. It came with a booklet showing me different exercises. The book suggests I use it between 10-20 mins a day, no more than 20. however it doesnt say how long to do each exercise? Do they mean 10 mins on each exercise? Can some one please let me know how long I need to spend on each exercise?
ReplyThanks.
I have the Crazy Fit Vibration Machine - that I bought on Ebay about a year ago. I bought the machine to help with my sciatica and also tone my body. I have been using it about 5 times a week - about 10 - 20 mins a day and the thing that I have noticed the most is my skin. Its amazing how soft my skin feels - I have been telling everyone to touch my skin cause it just has this amazing feeling. Also I know that it is helping circulation because at the end of the session - my skin is itchy and red - good signs of circulation and also burning the calories!
I think that the more expensive machines would give you more for your dollar - but I do think that you still get results from the cheaper machines - so I am very happy!!
ReplyThe viral coments above pushing those cheap and nasty Chinese machines are disgusting. Purchased for $80 and sold to you for heaps more.
Vibra-Slim
Crazy-Fit
T-Zone etc...
The only thing they will do is shrink your wallats. If you want results people you will need to use a larger heavy solid unit that no-one but the stars can afford.
Just go to a gym or studio and use theirs for a few bucks instead.
ReplyAnyone know a gym or studio in Sarasota that has a heavy duty WBV machine?
ReplyTruth is people vibration machines are NOT all the same and about 90% sold across the world cant even be called vibration machines.
The MOST IMPRTANT thing to look for when buying a machine is does it display with speed in HERTZ. If is just says 1-20 speed levels or 1-50 or even 1-99 the STAY AWAY the worst offenders i ahve seen in the industry thet lie lie lie are:
VIBRO TRAINER - AMAZINF SUPER HEALTH
HEALTH STAION - EXCEPTITON ENTERPRISES
CRAZY FIT - EBAY SELLER! ANYONE ON EBAY REALLY ARE THE SAME MACHINE DIFFERENT LABEL AT LEAT YOU ONLY PAY $200 NOT THE RIPP OF PRICES WE FIND ELSE WHERE LIKE:
CARDIO TECH T-ZONE MACHINE SAME SPECS AT EH CRAZY FIT AND YET SELLS IT FOR 4 TIMES AS MUCH RIPPPPPP OFF!

ReplyA place just opened across from work and I dropped in this afternoon to see what it was about and tried it. It was fun! I am now checking out comments and reviews etc to see if I will sign up for a month and give it a try. It made me laugh and it feels pretty neat at the end of the day. Certainly different and not sure I believe it does all they claim, but for the massage part and the very short time it takes from a busy day, it pays for itself! I felt great afterwards.
