Excellent list. Social networking is an excellent way to "partner up" for weight loss. I turely believe that having a good support group makes weight loss much easier, and often more fun as well!
ReplyYay- thanks. Spark people is the one I'm on and EVERYTHING, except for items in the shop, is free. I'm gonna check the others out so thanks for the list.
ReplyI think as more and more sites are opening up, it's a great way to socialize on what we are supposed to eat.
But there could be findings by some research going on, and that as the dust settles, it may be that we are supposed to eat reconizable food (like fruits, vegtables, meat, and beans/legumes.
But, quite frankly, the United States has the worse agriculture in the world, laced with pesticides and poor biotechnology, and the USDA is pushing for other countries to accept the trading of biotech foods.

Another former president has passed away this morning.
Jimmy Carter, 83, died this morning of natural causes. He beat Gerald Ford in his 1977 bid for the president.
This now leaves only two surviving former presidents: George H W Bush, now 83, and Bill Clinton, now 60.
ReplyJames, what's the source on the Jimmy Carter story, please?
ReplyJames, I've been to the web and there is nothing about Jimmy Carter passing away. Where did you get your info?
ReplyThere are some things that work amazingly well in cyberspace. The ability to reach a large enough audience to be interesting because they are not limited by time or place is a key factor to their success. In some cases anonymity may also play a role.
Diet communities have been remarkably successful, bringing together individuals looking for support and information about topics of interest.
Here are a couple more...

American Diabetes Association - Message Boards

I've just joined Spark People and it seems to have the most features that I want on any of the diet/fitness websites that I've visited. Menu plans, recipes, message boards, support groups, blogs, fitness plans...
ReplyHey Jim,
Per your blog on communities on October 24, you left off FatSecret.com
ReplyI use SparkPeople. I have used paid sites and none offered the support of SparkPeople. If anyone has any questions about navigating the site, my screen name is my last name.
ReplyThanks for this, these sorts of websites really do help when trying to lose weight.
In 2007 we will be adding some great new features to our site to help users connect with more people to gain support and motivation. Current features are also being improved so that they can keeping tracking their progress in a fun way!
ReplyThanks for the write up! It would also be really cool to split apart reviews of each of these sites!
I think there is a lot of crossover, but some of them have unique features which could be highlighted!
Anyways, thanks from the gimme20.com for the link! You'll notice we recently launched the 'groups' section of our site which allows our users to create their own sections of the website on a shared interest.

It was the best decision i have ever made, i have lost 17.6 lbs in just 8 weeks and you keep the weight off. The meetings are very motivational and supportive. Don't go on any of those weird no carb diets or something restrictive like that. Weight watchers is for real people who want to learn how to eat in the real world and stay healthy. JOIN WEIGHT WATCHERS!!!
Replyi have found out that not the sites or the books are great for you. the precious tips from people's comments are the best. learn from what others have really experienced.
ReplyGuys learn how diet and food really go together. all along we have been looking at fat calarie and low carb intakes. What if we were wrong? our bodies need fat to run. can a car run on air? I have learned so much in the past 5 months of research and I have lost 20 pounds that i could not lose with any other method no pills or doctors gimics! just health natural organic foods! I do not eat any proceded foods! Good luck and thanks to rawfoodmedia.com i have found the way!
ReplyHi everyone! I'm new here, but was wondering whether anyone had any good advice for me. I've tried everything to lose weight - exercise, trying to eat 'right' - etc, but nothing has worked for me. I don't know what to do. :(
Friends are telling me to try diet pills, especially this new Alli drug everyone keeps talking about, but I just don't know...anal leakage does NOT sound that appealing to me!
Any ideas on where I could find some good diet pill info? I have checked out this site, and it has pretty good stuff on
diet pills and weight loss - http://dietpilldictionary.com but I would also like some others. Thoughts? Thanx!
Mindy
ReplyI posted a comment a week or so ago about the Dr. Gott diet. I was very optimistic and am still plugging away on it. I've lost 11 lbs in 4 weeks, actually 18 but I seem to go up and then down a few times. Total 11 lbs. That is the first weight I've lost in a long time and am finding I am not hungry. For me the gains were due to salt and asparatime I believe. So I did learn something.
ReplyI am not able to find the where this was posted. I am looking for the other great mambers that were doing the Dr. Gott thing. Reading other's results makes it really encourageing. So if you know what happened to that forum please let me know.
Thanks Ina
Dear Mindy,
ReplyI know where you are coming from, however, you will always find someone who will take your money for some promising pill. This is not the answer, trust me I know. There is no way to loose weight except cut back on calories and move more. Personally I have convinced myself that I cannot exercise because of many health problems that I have. I can still walk but it takes at least 15 minutes to work out the pain in my feet, back, and hips. I then go along fairly briskly for another 15 minutes. That I can do. I am 57 and recently got a majorly big health scare and I finally know that I must get some of this weight off.
I decided to go with Dr. Gott's plan because you can eat all of the 4 food groups. Our bodies need all of these different foods groups. We don't need refined sugar or refined flours. These 2 products have been the biggest factors for obesity and multiple other weight problems. After being on this program for 1 month I have lost 11 lbs. It is a plan a person can stay on the rest of their life if desired or needed. As stated in his book there is no magic cure, you don't count calories but calories do count. No one can eat large amounts of food all the time and get away with it.
The good news is that when eating properly using whole grains and lean cuts of meat with fruits & veg's YOU DON'T WANT TO EAT ALL THE TIME. I used to want to eat 20 minutes after a big meal and often I did and that's how refined flours and sugar got me to a grand 232 lbs. If I loose a lb a week until Christmas I will be 198. Wow first time in many a year.
Mandy do this with me. You can I know you can don't wait as long as I did to get started.
It is work the first week or so, change is always hard. You will have your sugar cravings for the first week and then it goes. Now truthfully I can say I am not hungry. I drink lots of water even though Dr. Gott doesn't stress that.
Warmly Ina
This post is to introduce The BiG Eater Diet Network which is for customers, anyone who is trying to diet & lose weight or anyone would like to chat with the BiG Eater Diet Community It is new & although the network is primarily for people who are on a diet or want to diet any posts are welcome & humour is always appreciated.

ReplyIf you want to reduce your weight, you need to do a lot of exercise to accelerate your metabolism. It's better if you do cardiovascular exercise, because this kind of exercise helps you burn fat...
You should begin with a good eating plan, combining fats and sweets with fruits and vegetables. It will be better if you drink at least eight glasses of water daily to control your calories and your cholesterol.
If you want you can use some pills to control your weight and to accelerate the process of burning fat.
I know some pills which you can use to reduce your weight. Those pills are Xenical. Its results are excellent and fast.

ReplyNote to varie. Hyopthyroidism. Eighty percent of us have it. Get a doctors prescription for Armor thyroid.
Reply80% is grossly exaggerated. And no, do not get a prescription for Armour without having your thyroid tested... The figure is less than 20% of people, with the majority of them being women post-menopause, and in that case, I think a lot could be solved by natural hormone replacement therapy, rather than just taking thyroid medication.
Not everyone who needs to lose weight and is depressed has hypothyroidism, but it doesn't hurt to have your thyroid hormones, particularly Free T3 and Free T4, tested. TSH test fails a lot of the time, cause it is testing a pituitary hormone, not the thyroid, and also cause your TSH can go from 1.0 (normal and desirable) to 6.0 (indicates low thyroid) *in the course of the same day*, depending on the hour it is tested. At dawn, the TSH is high to tell the thyroid to produce hormone, then it immediately drops, then it gets higher again. So yeah, trying to diagnose a disease based on such a hormone is stupid. It would be like telling someone to measure their blood sugar right after lunch and telling them they are diabetic. They measure the H1ac, which shows blood sugar during 3 months, and *do a clinical exam*. I cannot stress how important the clinical exam is, but most doctors don't know or want to perform a thyroid clinical exam anymore. The only one I ever got while I was undiagnosed wasn't performed by a GP or an endocrinologist, but by a neurologist.
If you do turn out to have hypothyroidism and your female hormones (assuming Varie is female...) are in order, then yes, Armour (natural) thyroid is better than Synthroid. No, not because "everything natural is better", but because it contains all the thyroid hormones, including calcitonin, which is important to prevent osteoporosis.
ReplyHi! I just want to let everyone know that I came across a very amazing site that contains various diet reviews of various meal delivery weight loss companies, calorie counting diets, lifestyle change weight loss programs, and diet pills.
