Laughter Yoga

If you're feeling a bit down - maybe you need to laugh more.

"If you're laughing with a group of other people, fake laughter very quickly becomes real," he said. "It's part of the social phenomenon."

It's called Laughter Yoga and you might see a bunch of people wandering around with their hands raised and having a jolly good laugh.

Numerous scientific studies have found that daily laughter can help lift depression, lower blood pressure and boost the immune system, but yoga and health experts say little has been done to study the combined effects of chuckles and chakras. (via Yahoo)
Laughter Yoga also includes a session of light yoga poses and exercises such as "playing on an imaginary swing set and scurrying around the beach while flapping and squealing like a seagull".

Okay. Whatever turns your wheels I guess.

Oh, I believe in this! I live alone....well with 2 dogs and 2 cats. And anyone listening outside my door would either be frightened or be entertained--not sure which! I watch comedy shows, and just hoot 'n holler. I talk in funny voices to my animals, and then burst out laughing at myself. I love to laugh, and it especially helps if I'm feeling lonely, so I say "Live, love, laugh!"

If you've ever read Blink! by Malcolm Gladwell (sp?) - talks about how changing facial expression can lead to a change in emotions. Fascinating stuff.

Jim - I believe you're talking about "The Tipping Point" and not "Blink" because I remember that too, but I've only read the former and not the latter book.

I first heard about laughter yoga on "Dancing with the Stars" when Ashley took Harry Hamlin to a session. It was funny just watching it.

We do not laugh enough. Yoga is a good exercise. Seems to me this is a winning combination. :-)

When I saw Borat people weren't laughing! I didn't think it was funny either. It appeals to little boys how think passing gas is hilarious.

We love SNL and Conan O'Brien!

Dela... BUT 'passing gas' IS hilarious! COME ON :) (unless you are in a confined space, then I agree its not pleasant). My 80 year old dad went to see borat and he said it's hilarious - this is a man into jazz and Woody Allen!!

Well I guess I got a good immune boost last night, since I went out to watch 3h of hilarious stand-up and skits.

Since flu season is here, I may go back on Sunday.

Laughter and chakra alignment is an interesting theory. Whenever you go to any meditation class, the instructors always tell you to do the exercises with a smile. I guess being pleasant creates a good energy field around you...laughter will resonate it further:)

Totally true. Some Indian network TV stations that are broadcast via Satellite TV (ZeeTV) in the US, would have daily 1/2 hour yoga shows. My grandmother had recorded a "laughing" yoga show ---- we would laugh so hard we'd spend the next half hour wiping tears from our eyes and clearing our throats.

Best memories ever.

And nothing could upset you for the rest of the day.
