Carmen Electra and the NV Weight Loss Pill
It's called NV (as in envy) and is proudly advertised as the "First Rapid Weight-Loss Beauty Pill". NV have signed up actress and model (and, erm.., singer) Carmen Electra as their new spokesperson.
This surely is the mythic essence of marketing - get the 'perfect' body just by taking a pill. And because we all like instant gratification - NV is not just any pill - but a rapid weight loss and beauty pill. Couple it with a silicone-enhanced model and take out a national TV and print advertising campaign.
"NV™'s unique three complex formula is a simple way to enhance a woman's figure, radiate beauty and increase energy," said Electra. "I can identify with a woman's desire to make her outer appearance match her inner glow, which is why my secret to maintaining my looks, energy and confidence is NV™.The 'three complex formula' comprises a weight-loss, beauty, and energy blend.
The weight-loss complex is made up of green tea extract, hoodia gordonii, and theobromine. The exact proportions are unknown because it is a proprietary blend (total 267mg). While green tea extract and hoodia may have some validity regarding fat loss, often this depends on the quality - and as Will Brink puts it (via About Supplements):
The truth is that high-quality green tea extracts containing high levels of active compounds are expensive and rarely used in the cost-conscious supplement industry.Theobromine is a stimulant, and I am unaware of any weight loss effect.
The company behind the pill (nxCare) is like many others in the nutraceutical business - dubious credentials, and a few men getting rich.
Anyone care to try the product?
NV is no longer available new. But you can source older product from eBay.
You've all convinced me. I'm going to try it! Ha ha! Here goes nothin'!
Replywell i bought a package of 30 and going to start taking them tomorrow! wish me luck =)
Reply
Replyi started out taking 2 a day, but then i couldn't sleep at night...even though i was tired. So after the first 3 days, i just took 1 each day. it still helps curb my appetite and gives me more energy. i do mild exercises daily--but don't follow a "exercise plan". It's been about 2 weeks, and I've lost about 5 lbs.
Hi, Im 16, and 5'6 and weigh 200 pounds. I need to lose weight and im going out sunday and buying NV. Does anyone know how much weight you can lose per a week? I go to school everyday and work a 28 hour per a week job so i have little time for excersise ecept on the days i dont work, but i figured work would count as a little execise. Any advice for me? thanks ~ kasandra
ReplyOkay, I took this dietary supplement. It was great. I stopped craving foods and overly eating. BUT IT BROKE ME OUT IN HIVES! I had crazy, itchy rashes all over my body for 1 week after I stopped taking it. I would NOT reccomend this to anyone who wants to not alter their skin -- in a bad way. Beauty pill? Yeah right. More like mutant pill.
ReplyI quit taking it less than a week ago and the skin on my eyelids are red, burning, and itch like crazy. I haven't put anything new on my skin, and because of other posts stating the same reaction (maybe just different parts of the body), I believe this must be a reaction with some people when they stop using NV.
NV didn't do anything for my weight loss or energy, but loved the way my nails looked. Just not worth the money for nice nails.
Good luck to everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
ReplyHappy New Year everyone!! I bought NV and I am starting it tomorrow. I am also going to take a multivitamin and drink lots of water and try to eat a lot healthier. I am going to try my best to work in as much exercise as I can by using my treadmill but I am not sure if I will have time. Guess I will have to make time. I think I should be able to take off a few pounds or so. I don't need to loose a lot of weight like most people on here do. I just would like to loose 10-15 pounds to get rid of the excess fat and love handles around my midsection.
Kasandra I hope NV works for you. The weight loss is different for everyone. If you are at work or at school try to take stairs if possible, walk farther from where you work when you park your car or even try to fit in a 20 minute walk or so (whatever you can handle). Every little bit counts and if you aren't used to exercise then take it slow. Drink lots of water (it actually works!) and try to fit it lots of veggies and healthy stuff (not sure what your diet currently is). NV may work for you and it may not. By reading this site, everyone's experiences vary. Good luck to you and keep us posted as I will do the same!
Replyhi Niki,
Replymy name is gheng and i we have a similarity in situation, i'm just wondering how is the effect of the NV coz i am thinking of getting one???
Does anybody know if there is a side effect once you stop using NV?coz i don't wanna use it forever..thanks
NV Success Story:
I am The Slug. No energy, no motivation, no hope.
Since June, I have been taking one NV pill every day before my workout. I have now lost 35lbs.
Is NV making me skinny? No. But, it IS getting me off my butt at the end of a long day to workout.
ENERGY!!!!
NV gives me a HUGE burst of energy!! I have tried working out today without it to see if I really "need" it, or if I am just being fooled by the "placebo" effect of taking a supplement. Well, my workout sucked. I feel exhausted, only worked out to half my previous capabilites, and I feel a little nauseous from trying to work out to my "NV" potential.
Here's the thing -- the reason for my post: I am noticing that I bruise really easily these days. Yes, alarm bells ARE going off, and I should give up NV, but beauty before brains. I can't live without the energy.
So, my question is: Any other long time users noticing bruising?
ReplyOh, forgot to mention --
ReplyAbout the bruising: I have =always= taken a multivitamin EVERY DAY, and continue to do so. I get enough iron, Vitamin C and sunlight, so NV is the only explanation for this condition. It sucks because I love, love, love this pill. Hate Carmen Electra, though.
The Slug: My first guess is you are simply malnourished. Try a powerful multi-vitamin like Animal Pak and see if it goes away. At the same time, this is coming from a guy who's never had a bruise in his life.
ReplyThe Slug: I posted before I saw your second post. Are you using a supermarket multi-vitamin like Centrum? If so, that might be your problem. It's not just having the right amounts of things. There are synthetic forms of vitamins that aren't as effective. For example, you want d-alpha-tocopherol and not dl-alpha-tocopherol when it comes to vitamin E.
ReplyRyan:
ReplyGuilty as charged. I am a long-time Centrum user. I always heard that it is full of "fillers" and what-not, but it has never been a health issue until now.
So, Mr. I've-Never-Had-a-Bruise: THANK YOU, and tell me more! Specifically, do YOU take NV? And where do I get "Animal Pak"?
I bruise easily, always have, and yes, I also get enough iron, vitamin C, etc. What I noticed made a difference was taking a multivitamin that had a lot of Vitamin K - 75% of the RDA, instead of the 15 to 33% that most of them do. I didn't even decide to change, I just got the brand that was the best value and suddenly noticed I wasn't bruising anymore.
ReplyThe Slug: You can order Animal Pak on bodybuilding.com, though Jan's solution will probably be cheaper. Animal Pak is a very high-powered and high-quality multi-vitamin. If you are low on any micronutrient, Animal Pak will probably solve it. I don't take NV; I don't see the need for diet pills.
Jan: Yep, a Vitamin K deficiency would certainly do it.
ReplyJan and Ryan:
Thanks, guys. I really appreciate your advice.
I was hoping not to have to give up my NV because it really does pump up my workouts. I thought it may be the Green Tea component that revs me up; but, having taken green tea capsules separately, I remained sluggish (even though I'm sure they were supermarket crap, too).
So, I'm sticking to NV until I figure out what ingredient it is in them that makes me so pumped and motivated.
I'm not a diet pill junkie. I've actually never taken one before NV. I am afraid of long-term side effects. Hence my concern about the bruising. But, now that I think about my dietary intake, malnurishment is definitely plausible. Learn as I go.
Thanks again.

ReplyJan: May I ask what multivitamin you take? I have been hard pressed finding a single one with any vitamin K in it at all.
The Slug, I don't have brand loyalty, I just go to supplement stores and get whatever is the best value (but no Centrum, cause not to gross but... let's say part of the Centrum came out the way it went in, if you know what I mean). Right now I have a bottle of Universal Naturals Daily Multivitamin (31% of the RDA for Vitamin K) and one of Twinlab Supertwin (62% of the RDA). I've found that I can now take the ones that around 30% if I alternate after a month, going to a higher Vitamin K one, without getting the bruising back. When I took all 100 capsules of a lower Vitamin K one in a row, the bruising came back.

ReplyJan: Thanks for the info. But, I have discovered one tragic fact: Canadian multivitamins do NOT CONTAIN ANY Vitamin K what-so-ever. Go figure, I'm in the wrong country. But, we can buy broccolli, so maybe the old fashioned way will have to do. ;) Cheers.
The Slug, don't supplement stores there like GNC sell American vitamins? I'm in Brazil and the brands I get are American.
ReplyI started using NV 1/2/07 and as of 1/7/07 I have lost 5 pounds. It does not make me feel jittery and the best part you only have to take 2 pills instead of 12. I have to much energy it's GREAT!!!
ReplySo, what happens when they discontinue this product like they did Ephedra. No one really knows how this product is really effecting people, do we? I guess when you really look at, it's just better to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, instead of trying to find the quick fix.
ReplyHey all,
ReplyI am so excited to start NV. I will purchase it this week. I have invested almost $300 in previous diet pill. I really hope this works for me. I am 155lbs and would like to reach 135lbs. I have already started eating better and adding exercise to my daily routine. I work in a hospital M-f 8-5 sitting at a desk. So what I have started doing is on my (2) 15 mins breaks I get everyday is climb the 8 flight of stairs three times M-W-F and walk the halls TU & Thrus for my 15 mins breaks. I have to lose the weight this time around....no matter if this is my 8,456 time try to lose weight :) ....but I will stick with it this time!!! :)
I will keep everyone posted!!!!
Keep up the good work to all!
God Bless!!
Hey I love any tips or advice...talk to me!!!!
No diet pills work. Everyone knows you have to work out and have a good diet, but the problem is...people are lazy and don't want to. I am currently recovering from an eating disorder...my friends and I where eachothers "support" telling eachother how thin we looked and how pretty we felt to fit into a size 3 or 0. It was the four of us..2 anorexic and 2 bulimic. Apart of our "support" was trying out new diet pills together in hopes that it would take even more of the weight off. So we did take this pill...as usual nothing happened. It just made us all feel sick, like most diet pills do..when you don't eat. Well I'm not sure if this is going to help anyone..I'm sure it's not, but just to give you some insight that not all "overweight" people are buying these pills.
Replyhey im considering starting NV and i was nervous about the caffine intake, does half a pill twice a day really work, and what happens when im done taking it. i guess i can find out, but if someone can help me out about the whole half a day thing that would be great.
ReplyTHANKS!
Hi everyone, I started taking nv on jan, 8th. I started with taking a half in the morning and a half 6 hrs later. I am very sensitive to caffiene, it makes me shaky and my heart beat fast. NV didn't do that at all. It didn't really curb my appetite at all though. So the next day I took a whole in the morning and a whole 6 hrs later. It didn't make me shaky or my heart beat fast at all. I did feel like I had a little anxiety every now and then but to be honest I think that was in my head. It did help curb my appetite and i will stick with a whole pill 2X a day. I will let you know my progress. Right now i am 131 and i would love to be 120-125.
ReplyI am on my 3rd day of NV, my first diet pill ever, and after my first pill of the day, I am fine. I am drinking more water and being more conscious of what I am eating. However, after my second pill, I have become SEVERELY nauseous, to where I am fighting vomiting. It's almost as if I would feel better if I did. I have had to lay down for 3-4 hours both days after my 2nd pill. It is time right now for my 2nd today and I don't think I can do it because I know what's coming. I am eating plenty after I take it. If that doesn't curb your appetite though, I don't know what will!
ReplyRagina,
Hey I have read that some of the users are doing 1/2 a pill and it seems to still work for them. Maybe try that until your body get use to it. But after maybe a week or so and you still feel the same way....hey try something else, because I know that feeling is not fun. I've been on it for two days now and I love it!!!! I feel great and I think my appetite is curb but I'm also doing the 4-5 small meals a day too. I'm dying to weigh myself but I think I'm going to wait.....It's the time of the month anyways :)
Good luck to you....and still to everyone!
Cheers Here's to weight loss!!!!!
ReplyI am 18 years old. I weigh 135 lbs and I'm 5"6'. I go to school full time and work about 25 hours a week so I rarely have any time to exercise. My whole life I have always been able to eat whatever I want and not have to worry about gaining weight. However, recently I have noticed a dramatic increase in my weight and It's making me SO MAD!! After reading everyone's comments about NV it is making me feel a little better about actually giving it a try but some of the comments are making me uneasy...like the itching/rashes after you stop taking the pill and the nausea. Caffine does affect me to the point where I am very jittery and shaky so I'm a little nervous. I am thinking about going out today to buy the pill and start-I have NEVER taken diet pills..I have always been told they are terrible and mess with your body in all sorts of ways-but I think I am going to give it a try so I will let everyone know!!
ReplyThis pill made me feel week and rather lousy, or sickish is a better word!!!
ReplyNot quite sure why anyone would use Carmen E in a weight loss commercial. I have never seen her claiming that she has a weight problem; it's public knowledge that she is wiling to have surgery to enhance her appearance & a few commercials later she was chomping a burrito in a Taco Bell commercial.
ReplyI have tried every pill out there and They don't work.
ReplyI ended up not using anything right now and I am loosing weight.
my detox diet.
\I have a shake of (cactus) carrots , celery and pineapple. every mornig and that cuts my appetite. I just can't eat anything else after that. (That is great for my. "cause I am always hungry)
I do I lot of soups. mainly chicken with vegetables and some whole wheat pasta. It's really filling. after every meal I have a grapefruit and let me tell you I feel more energetic. my son couldn;t sleep last night and I thougt my day was going to be horrible and It wasn't the energy I get from eating healty doesn't compare to any pill I have taked before and the best I have no side effects but loosing weight.
save you money NV doesn't work.
SHel
hello my name is hope I tried this product and am sorry to report that it didnt work I actually felt more hungry~.... on the 2nd of January I started out at 160 started taking hydroxycut hardcore omg most awesome pill ever!! and as of today with a good diet and exercise I have lost 5 pounds!
ReplyI've been taking NV for a few months now. (before carmen) It does make your nails and hair grow alot faster and gives you a little more energy. but for the weightloss, i've lost 19 lbs but i think it was more of the placebo effect. no matter what diet you try, YOU HAVE TO GET OFF YOUR A**!!! and cut down on calories for it to work.
ReplyHey my name is Liz. I started taking NV towards the end of November. I wasn't overweight at all, but I had gained a few pounds that I didn't like on my short frame. At 5'2", I weighed 117, which is still perfectly normal. But I couldn't lose the 7 lbs. I wanted to. I've been exercising and eating sensibly for my entire life, until I moved to NYC in September where I put on the 7 lbs. So after taking NV I finally got on the scale recently and saw that I was back to my normal 110 lbs. I couldn't be happier. NV doesn't make me jittery and definitely helps me eat less. I love this stuff. ((If you order it from evitamins.com you can get 60 pills for $30- thats where I get it from)) Anyway, I hope everyone tries it, I know Carmen Electra isn't a very believable spokesperson for a diet pill, but this pill will give you energy and motivation to get moving and lose the weight. Trust me. Good luck everyone.
ReplyHey i read a lot of your comments about NV
ReplyIt sounds really good im going to go out and buy it tomorrow. Cannot git rid of the baby fat from my 5 month old son. im 4"11 and weigh 166 :( before i got pregnant i was only 115lbs so im going to give this pill a shot along with some strong workouts
just hope this pill doesnt make me dizzy or sick.
ill keep u all posted as i try the pill to see if it works :) (fingers crossed)
Hi I've been reading several of the posts on NV. Just a caution, if you are not used to moderate to high intake of caffeine daily, this product may initially may you jittery, nauseated etc. Excessive caffeine intake that your body is not used to can make you feel quite sick. Start with one capsule/tablet a day or a half, once or twice a day so that your body can adjust and you may be able to lessen this side effect. Prior to beginning this supplement, you may want to assess with your physician/pharmacist as to whether you have a medical condition that may make this supplement dangerous to take. If you have certain cardiac (heart) conditions or high blood pressure, any supplement with stimulant ingredients can be harmful. Please be careful!! And to above posts where someone was taking hydroxycut - I believe it contains a strong stimulant that can be harmful to even otherwise healthy individuals.
ReplyI'm going to buy NV today after work and I'm starting it tomorrow. :) Do you all take it before or after your meals? How long before or after? I only have 2 months until spring break and I am usually too paranoid to wear a bikini in front of other people. I hope this works for me!
Replyi heard a lot about this NV pill and went to the gnc store tonight and the guy there said that he sells at least two a day, i lost somewhere around 20 lbs on my own but these last 10 lbs is just killing me im 123 and i want to get down to maybe 113, by the way im 5'6 and so i thought maybe i could try this pill, but see im younger than 18 and i was wondering if that would be a problem? If someone could get back at me that would amazing and please asap i want to start as soon as i can.
Reply*******FIRST WEEK UPDATE*****
ReplyHello All,
I have been taking NV for one week and I love it!!! I have lost 4.5lbs. (I've gone from 162.5lbs to 158.0lbs) It makes me feel energize. I still don't know if it is really curbing my appetite since I am still doing the 3-4 small meals but hey who cares...I'm losing weight. I'm eating good and I do work out. I may not be doing the 30-45 cardio in the gym or weight training like some but the little I am doing is counting!!!
A tip to help anybody out----- On my 15 min breaks at work I walk the halls and climb the stairs (I work in a hospital) and in the afternoons at home I do my 10 mins pilates tape (it is wonderful) Anyone can work out for 10mins. I normally do the abs section because that is my main focus (I have a horrible stomach) but now I have recently added an additional 10mins and doing the fat burning section....that's 20mins!!! Come on we can do 20 mins. It's not hard nor not too tiresome!!!!
I'm not lying about any of this...I am for real. If anyone have any questions or tips please feel free.
I'll keep you posted!!!
