Carmen Electra and the NV Weight Loss Pill
It's called NV (as in envy) and is proudly advertised as the "First Rapid Weight-Loss Beauty Pill". NV have signed up actress and model (and, erm.., singer) Carmen Electra as their new spokesperson.
This surely is the mythic essence of marketing - get the 'perfect' body just by taking a pill. And because we all like instant gratification - NV is not just any pill - but a rapid weight loss and beauty pill. Couple it with a silicone-enhanced model and take out a national TV and print advertising campaign.
"NV™'s unique three complex formula is a simple way to enhance a woman's figure, radiate beauty and increase energy," said Electra. "I can identify with a woman's desire to make her outer appearance match her inner glow, which is why my secret to maintaining my looks, energy and confidence is NV™.The 'three complex formula' comprises a weight-loss, beauty, and energy blend.
The weight-loss complex is made up of green tea extract, hoodia gordonii, and theobromine. The exact proportions are unknown because it is a proprietary blend (total 267mg). While green tea extract and hoodia may have some validity regarding fat loss, often this depends on the quality - and as Will Brink puts it (via About Supplements):
The truth is that high-quality green tea extracts containing high levels of active compounds are expensive and rarely used in the cost-conscious supplement industry.Theobromine is a stimulant, and I am unaware of any weight loss effect.
The company behind the pill (nxCare) is like many others in the nutraceutical business - dubious credentials, and a few men getting rich.
Anyone care to try the product?
NV is no longer available new. But you can source older product from eBay.
Thanks Lisa it makes me feel better to know that I am not alone. I am going to try and take a second pill this afternoon. Can I take it after a meal? Maybe an hour or so after? I work so have to take an early lunch and it is not 6 hours from the first pill.
ReplyAfter reading the majority of everyone’s positive comments about NV, I have decided to go to Wal-Mart this morning and buy myself a bottle. It cost me $22 which is not bad at all. I took my whole pill at 8:15am and I must say I felt great afterwards. I at 1 hr later and was full after just eating half of my breakfast. So far I haven’t had any side effects. I am 120 lbs @ 5’3 and my goal is to loss fat not weight. The reason why I want to try NV because I have trouble controlling my portion sizes. I am not overweight, I exercise almost daily, but I eat only two big meals a day. I want to cut my portion size and eat 4 small meals a day. Hopefully NV will help to suppress my appetite and I will be able to accomplish this goal. I plan to take ½ pill every 6 hours accompanied by drinking lots of water. I hope that I can train my stomach and adapt to eating smaller portion sizes and if in the process I get great looking hair and skin then that will be an extra added bonus!!! Good luck to all with accomplishing your goals and I will keep you posted on mines.
ReplyI've been reading the comments. I'm going out to buy NV right now.
ReplyJan-I went to the doctor last week. My hormones are all in tact, everything is good. Thanks though, I actually thought about it and wondered the same thing. My doctor was quite upset with me though I have gained 17lbs in one year's time. Not good!!! ...
ReplyNiki81- hope all is well for you thanks for your advice too!! how are you doing with the NV?
Laurie-Bless you, you sound like me. If you are 138lbs, hang onto it you look great!! i was there and wearing a 6 still some 4's and thought I was fat!! Believe me you are NOT fat!! I actually started taking the NV and can no longer take it. It definitely curbed the appetite but I was dizzy kind of like off balance, burning sensation in my back so after a couple of days I called my doctor. He was furious, I have monitored my BP and it raises my BP too much, this is what is causing me to feel bad. So I have resorted to hiring a personal trainer, eating right and will keep in touch. I do feel better after a week of exercising everyday, eating good stuff... Kind of following a sugar busters path but I still have a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee. Lots of veggies, fruits and white meat/poultry. I have lost 3 lbs.. will check back in a couple of weeks. I do have a docs appt with a internist who is going to check "everything" to do with my metabolism because I could starve my self (which I have for a month of liquids & fruits only) and minimal weight loss. 5 years ago I could have dropped 5 lbs in a week!! Not anymore...not even a POUND!! Something going on somewhere...... Good luck everyone :)
Cricket - thanks sooooo much for your support! Thants why I love this website. I was really down when NV didn't work cause I really liked it! I'm very excited about South Beach though! I'm NEVER hungry!! I'm 45 and the weight is hard to come off as we get older but this seems to do the trick, for me anyway!
ReplyPlease let us know how your medical appointments go. I'm sending good thoughts your way!!
Cricket- I was going to let you know that I tried every diet under the sun and could not lose any weight. I went to my doctor and she said I have a yeast build up and the only way to lose weight was to cut out all sugar, carbs and dairy which all feed the yeast. Unfortunately, you are only allowed to eat meats and veggies for two weeks and then can introduce fruit after 2 weeks. I lost 6 pounds in two days and then a total of 10 pounds in 1 month. I have been off of the diet now for about a year and have gained about 3-4 pounds back. That is why I am trying NV. If you are interested in checking this diet out, you can find all of the information on www.yeastconnection.com. Good luck to all people on NV. I am on my first day and can't seem to get rid of this headache. However, my energy is great!
ReplyCricket, I wish you good luck then. You did the right thing by having the check-up first.
Replyumm.. deanna 90 lbs is not healthy. unless you are like... under 5 feet tall.
Replyi've been through this entire thing of comments - this product seems to work for some and not work at all for some of you. i've seen a million ads and commericals for this and i figured i might as well try it. i'm 22 and really looking to lose about 30lbs. i just got out of college and i would really like to look the way i did before i started!! we shall see. i just bought the bottle today. if anyone has any comments of anything that may be of help - please don't hesitate!! i would love to hear your experience with this product!!!
ReplyI've been taking NV for about a week now and I gained 3 pounds in just a week (I never gained this much weight in such short period of time). But I feel like my body gets leaner. I dont know if I should keep taking NV or should I stop. To me theres no side affects. Im really not sure if my body does get leaner or do I just feel that way. im planing to finish the bottle and see what's going to happen. if anyone had experienced this before please tell me I really worry about my weight right now.
ReplyAnnie, is it possible you have gained muscle? If you are working out at all, it might be muscle weight. Good luck and stay on the healthy path...good luck hun! I will post Wednesday morning too with my weight.
ReplyNiki
Annie, I haven't lost a lot of weight maybe 2-3 lbs, but I have a lot more energy when I exercise and I do feel leaner. Unfortunately, I dind't take my measurements to see if I lost a few inches. I think I do have more muscles. I train 3 times a week.
Replyhey guys. ive been wanting to lose weight for a while so i started cutting down and exercising for the past couple of months. it was only when my pants felt lose i actually went on the scale. the beginning of the fall semester i was 178lbs. after diet and sort of exercising i dropped down to 162. I recently started taking NV to see if it worked and to make my weightloss go even faster. i started on November 11, 2006. after 4 days. i have lost 5 pounds!! my measurements have improved as well. i started off with a waist of 34 in. Now my waist is 31! :) i'm happy with how its going!
the first day i took a whole pill on both servings. it EXTREMELY suppresed my appetite and i did feel lightheaded and dizzy whenever i stood up so i decreased my intake to half a pill every serving. Before NV i was already eating healthy and eating smaller portions. It may work alone, but it definetly has boosted my weightloss! :) hopefully this helps and inspires some of you guys. just make sure to stop taking it or decrease the serving size if you have negative side effects. i'll keep you guys updated :)

ReplyI've been using NV for a day now. I have a slight headache nothing drastic. Other than that I feel really good I do feel energized. I'm going to take the pills for the rest of the week so body can get use to them, then get back to my daily workout. My workouts are intense and I don't want to overwhelm my body.
ReplyHey all. From reading everyone's comments, NV sounds worthy of a try. I've started taking diet pills in Sept. of this year. I started out with Hydroxycut, but had to stop using it after a few weeks because I became allergic to its ingredients. Hydroxycut does work in curbing appetite and weight loss. A few weeks after Hydroxycut, I started to use SmartBurn with Hoodia, but like Hydroxycut, I had to stop because once again I was allergic to its ingredients. I broke out really bad with a rash all over my face. It was horrible and did not go away for 5-7 days. My body was also itchy. Please be careful with these diet pills because they can leave you feeling constipated, having headaches and nauseated at times. I am not taking any diet pills right now. I've just been sticking to a gym routine (4-5 days a week) and a healthy diet. Good luck to all.
ReplyHey everyone. I just started taking NV today (Nov 15th) My goal is to lose 10 lbs by Dec. 16th when I go home to Vermont for Christmas. I will keep you all updated on my progress. I will be working out on my exercise bike for 30 min. a day, 7 days a week. I never eat breakfast with my work schedule, and i'm usually up quite late. This afternoon I took my first pill, with 16 oz of water. After I was finished with the water I had 1 lean pocket. I went off to work and at around 9:30pm with another 16oz of water (i took my first pill at 3pm)i took my second pill then i had a normal dinner with a diet soda. Between the first and second pill i had a snack that (1 cup of fat free applesauce and 1 string cheese) This is most likely the routine that I will be sticking to. If anyone is starting soon, or just started and needs a buddy, drop me an email! KnB1503@comcast.net
I'll be back to give updates..good luck everyone =D

ReplyNiki81, Jud, I want to thank both of you for your comments. They really do make me feel better! =]
ReplyI'm so frustrated. I went to my GYN yearly appt. on the 14th of this month and in one year I had gained 18 lbs. I have been very concerned with my weight for awhile. My family doctor ran a gammot of tests only to reveal that everything was fine (my sodium was a little low). I began taking allergy shots in April, but the allergy doc. said they could not cause a weight gain. I've been doing TaeKwonDo for 3 days a week for a little over 1 1/2 yrs, and about two months ago I added 3 days of treadmill and 3 days of bowflex. I eat pretty good. Still nothing. I do have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). but I can't believe PCOS would cause such a hard time with weight loss. Needless to say I left my GYN and went straight to Walgreens and purchased NV, I took my first dose at 2:00 p.m. on the 14th. Does anyone else have PCOS and taken NV, and has it worked for you? I promise not to write so much next time.
ReplyHi Dawn-
ReplyI also have been previously diagnosed with PCOS and just started taking nv on the 14 (Tues) so far no weight loss. However, I have a great increase in energy. I am having some weird side effects from the nv, but I am going to try it for at least the 2 weeks. You may want to try the yeast free diet I mentioned above. That is the only way I have been able to lose weight in the last 3 years.
Dawn, PCOS does make it hard to lose weight. You need to get your testosterone back to normal levels through exercise, carb control or low carb in some cases, and if necessary, medication, usually diabetes medication like metformin. Doctors just typically give you the BCP, but that doesn't solve the high testosterone, it only fills you up with more estrogen, so now instead of 1 out of control hormone, you have 2. Not the wisest course of action, IMO. Treat the symptom instead of solving the problem.
ReplyI want to know if anyone is experiencing indigestion and/or heartburn? I have noticed I've been having really bad heartburn since taking these pills. It's driving me nuts. And then when I swallow my food it feels like its a block in my throat. It's terrible.

Ginger & Jan -
Thank you for responding. Thank you also for the helpful hints. I never thought of wheat being an issue, but I will definately look into that. I am presently on Metformin for the PCOS and have been for about 2 years. It greatly helped with my cholesterol and tryglyceride levels. I read a book called Sugarbusters, and recommend it. It taught me a lot about how harmful sugar is to our bodies. Anyway, I want to join in with others and post my progress:
My first full day on NV was Wed. Nov. 15th, and I weighed 143 lbs. (I'm not even 5'2) I will try and post my progress every Wed.
Replyi've been on it for a week. I LOST 6 LBS!
ReplyI'm in college right now so I was a little concerned about hearing peoples comments about what happened when they drank. Would there be a way to stop those effects? Would not taking it that day help? Also when you stop taking NV will you gain back the weight even if you stick to the same amount of food and diet?
ReplyThanks in advance!
Hey everyone.I'm 18,5'5 and around 208 lbs.Been the overweight girl(Ok ok..FAT girl..) since I was young unfortunatly.Fortunatly though I have no health problems and such other than allergies.Anyways I had never tried diet pills before until now.I saw NV on sale at Walmart and then came home did some research and found this little haven which convinced me to give it a try.Nothing to lose.Other than 24 bucks that is.Anyways I bought a bottle Saturday and didn't start taking them till yesterday. So far no real side effects..Lots more energy though.I did notice though that from my face till my collar bone my skin got very hot and red but not in a rash like way.It went away after an hour or two eventually.Anyone else experience this?
ReplyI would like to lose around hmm..well i'd LIKE to lose around 60 by my graduation(May) but i'll just aim for 45.I suppose I need to get my lazy butt up and play alot of DDR (..hehe..) and go for some nice long walks in my woods and on my treadmill($500 sitting next to my bed hardly ever used.Shame on me.Seriously.).I definetly need to try and cut out the sodas.I will keep this updated and see how everyone else is doing.Oh and congrats,of course, to anyone losing weight on it or just weight period.
Im the one that just posted.Eh..just noticed there are alot of Jessicas or whatnot around so heh just so EVERYONE knows (Because I know its oh so important..*sarcasm* ) im Jess Leanne now.
ReplyI have lurked this entire thread and allison, your post brought me out of the shadows!! Best thing I've read the whole thread!! lmao
ReplyHey, I just wanted to update you guys on how everything is going. I started NV last week and was 144 pounds. I am now 139. The first 3 days I didn't feel the greatest, but I lost like 3 pounds in those 3 days. I have actually been eating more since I started NV and working out less. I feel healthier now that I can eat more and still drop pounds.
ReplyLisa144 - Congratulations! Are you taking two whole pills a day? If not, what dosage are you taking? I've also been on NV for a week; I did show a 1 lb. loss, but I ate a Big Mac meal from McDonalds yesterday (my weakness - yucky, I know), and I'm back up to my 143 lb. starting weight today. I'm going to remain patient, because I realize the weight loss will be different for everyone.
I have been experiencing headaches. Anyone else? I'm unfortunately a coffee junky. I have cut back because of the caffine content of NV, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced headaches. I've only experienced them the last 2 days, so maybe it's something else.
ReplyThanks!
I was iffy about taking this pill, mostly b/c it is endorsed by Carmen...what a joke! I was in Walmart picking up some other things and decided to search for it. The reason I took the plunge was it was in the Health section NOT the diet section. I figure with the ingredetians listed it cant hurt me. I have been taking it for 4 days and dropped 2 pounds so far...however it has made me "more reguar" My doc told me a healthy person goes twice a day...i was regualer once a day and the pill has upped that to 2 and sometimes 3 times a day. its not "runny" or "hard" which again my Doc said is healthy. I am ok with it. i have noticed slight crampy right before.
ReplyThe pill has made me drink more water..quite a lot more water, which can only help. I was 172 before and now 170. @ 5'9. I would like to be 140-150. I grew up skinny 125 in high school. i gained the weight mostly due to the birth control pill! if you are on it GET OFF!! it totally screwed up my thyroid thus making my metabilism slow and gain weight.i also got what in latin means" red bumps" on my shin. i thought i had flesh eating disease, my husband had to take me the emergency, i couldnt walk! after 4 doctors i got told it was from the birth contol pill!
anyways i am way off topic now.
couple questions for those of you who have been on NV for a while
1)any side effects...besides being regular?
2) how long do I take it for?
3) if i go off will the weight come back?
i will admit i do not excercise, i do eat heathly for the most part...chocolate is my guilty pleasure
well i hope this pill works, even 10 pounds would make me happy!
if anyone had any answers to my questions please post! Thanks and good luck everyone!
Hey Heidi, its crazy that it has made you regular, its the opposite for me..., I have to take a laxitive sometimes its gotten so bad. Well I have been on the pill for about two weeks and have lost 5 punds total and while thats not a lot I also dont excersise nearly as much as I should. It does however give me tonnes of energy and I havent felt hungry since I started taking this pill. I eat cause its time to eat not cause I am starving. I drink between 3-6 bottles of water a day up from my one and I find if I dont drink this much water I feel really dehydrated...good luck and keep us posted on your weight loss.
ReplyDawn, I have been taking 2 pills a day. At first I felt really sick after taking 2, but now my stomach is fine with 2. I think I could be losing more weight faster if I would stick to a better diet and exercise more. Now that I have been on the pill and still losing alittle weight at a time, I cheat more. It is funny that you also feel bad about eating one bad meal. I now feel so guilty if I eat something that for most people would just be an everyday thing. I have also had some days were I had headaches. I don't know if it was from the pill or not. It is hard to tell which things are side effects of the pill and which are just me. Good luck to all of us on our diets over Thanksgiving. It is going to be very hard! My goal is just to not gain anything. Not sure if that is even possible!
ReplyLisa, just eat till u are comfortable, I know its hard over the holidays, but I know you can do it...I had such trouble over my thanksgiving (I am Canadian). But, I ate a small portion of everything and felt much better afterwards where normally I feel like not moving for a week...lol...
Replygood luck and if you cheat, dont get down, its one day!

Well, I have been dieting off and on for a few months now kinda bad at sticking to it though. I am 5'3 and 208 pounds, After seeing that number on the scales I decided to take action so I can lesson my chances of health problems. I have been dieting good, decided to buy NV. I haven't taken it yet cause the hollidays have arived, I'm taking my first pill tomorrow. I will keep y'all posted on my experance. Good luck everyone! Also Happy holidays!
ReplyHey y'all. I'm here to give my 1 week update. I've been taking NV for 1 week and a day. I've been eating around 1300-1500 calories a day, and working out for 30 minutes everyday. I have lost 4lbs so far. It's probably a lot of water weight though, but who knows. I feel great. The pills probably won't work for everyone, but they are definitely working for me. I used to be STARVING on diets, but they really help curb my apatite. I'll be back in another week to post my progress. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! =D
Replyi have been wanting to lose my extra weight for quite some time now, and when i saw the commercial for NV i was really interested in using it. i am however nervous that once i stop using NV i will gain my weight back...
Replyi was wondering if anyone could tell me if this will happen or not?
Danisha - Yes, this has happened to me. My throat feels as if it is closing up as if there is something blocking it, and I have taken the pill hours ago.
My skin has been very itchy too, ever since I've started taking it. NV definitely supresses hunger but I must be allergic to something in it, so I won't be taking it.
ReplyI was at 122 pounds and NV helped me lose those an extra 10 pounds within 2 months. Helps reduce appetite slightly, helps skin and hair, also reminds you twice a day to take care of yourself (eat healthy and exercise). Sometimes just that reminder can keep you on track. I wanted to look excellent, and had to keep my mind on it. Even if the actual pill ingredients do nothing, mentally, it was very helpful and I felt like I was in control of my own beauty. I think the collagen and grap seed extract are really good ingredients if nothing else.
