Hungry Men Prefer Heavy Women

Researchers at universities must have a lot of spare time on their hands. Recent research shows that men who are hungry (rather than satiated) find heavier women more attractive.

Researchers picked 30 hungry and 31 satiated men (via BBC News):

The men were then asked to rate the attractiveness of 50 women of varying weights, all within a healthy range, who had been photographed wearing tight grey leotards and leggings.

The hungry men rated more of the heavier women as attractive than the men who were full up.

The researchers believe this is due to a 'survival preference': in times of food shortage - a heavier woman becomes ideal. They also point to physiological factors (blood sugar, hormones) that may affect drives and interests.

To be honest, this sounds like a bunch of male university students (going to and from the dining hall no less) playing a 'hot-or-not' game... However the researchers do plan to see how hunger impacts female attraction to men.

The research was published in the British Journal of Psychology.

Honestly, I don't think it's a very meaningful study. It's too subjective to be very scientific. It could have something to do with the way men's minds are so one-track. When they're hungry, they think of food and heavier women are usually associated with food in their heads, while slimmer women may only be associated with sex in their minds. I'm guessing after they eat their burgers, they'll find the pinup girls more attractive again.

Well, I think they have way too much time on their hands if they are doing studies like this one. I feel that it has little affect on anything and can go in eithier direction.

wow. i think it's pretty interesting and it makes sense. It's natural to desire a women with a healthy figure. The idea of malnutrition being desired is created by media.

I think it's a pretty funny. Of course we aren't supposed to draw conclusions off a such a small sample size, but maybe single guys reading this could try going hungry for a while, then maybe hitting the club and see if they are attracted to heavier size women :0)

What's he going to do... eat her? Sorry - I couldn't resist.

Ladies - let us take notes! Lord knows we need to know what the men consider ideal!

Christi: That's exactly what I thought... ;-) Run out of food...? go find yourself a larger woman. This research is crazy but hilarious.

But the question still remains:

Who is funding this stuff?

Maybe I can get them to throw money out on my miracle "dog poo" weight loss formula...

Okay, so this web site has me going, and I can't shut up. My wife tells me that her problem with me, is that I talk too much. She's probably right, I can talk up a blue streak, right up to 2:00 AM in the morning until I pass out from pure exhaustion.

I live in Syracuse, New York, not exactly where I wanted to end up, but then that's another story having to do with what my wife wanted to do.

The point is, big chicks rule. There's nothing wrong with that, I think it's a matter of personal preference, it's a matter of personal taste of desire, but hell with it, I find nothing more desireable than a large beautiful woman. I'm not a nut, I'm just an average joe, but I like -- that's LIKE -- and I don't mean love, because you can't love someone unless you LIKE them first; I like large and healthy large women -- once you like them, then that opens the door to loving them.

And last of all, yes, I did have my Lean Cuisine meals, I am not straved or food depraved -- stuff goes through my head where food isn't even a though, so no, I'm not "hungry," I couldn't care about food enough to be hungry, I have no concept of being "hungry" is. Is this study on track? Don't know, honey, you tell mne what you think.

Yes, I'm hungry for love, whatevery your definition of that term is; yes, I'm hungry for affection; yes, I'm hungry for the delight of having a woman in my arms, and my arms around her, just the two of us, snuggling, feeling each other nect to us (sweet mothe goddess, I've probably commited so many language arts -- English, for us old farts -- sins; run on sentences to start with, along with other grammatical errors . . .

I think that it has alot to do with the fact that when men see heavier women they think of alot of food just as well as when a women sees a heavier man she thinks that he must eat a bunch. But that it just my opinion.

I think the point they are trying to make is not "hungry? go get a heavy woman!" but rather the impact on our perception of how changing something about ourselves can change our wants needs and desires. Although I do agree it seem kinda dumb to just do only a small amount of men since that doesn't really prove much but a long stretched inference.
