The Wine Lover's Diet
Diets seem to come in themes or groups. It would appear that wine has made something of a comeback to the world of weight loss. Cardiologist (and wine collector) Dr. Tedd Goldfinger is releasing The Wine Lover’s Healthy Weight Loss Plan - a book based on the health benefits of wine.
The essence of Dr. Goldfinger's plan is:
Focus on healthy, rather than restricted, eating. Exchange harmful simple sugars, carbohydrates and high fructose corn syrup for vegetables, legumes, and grains. Always go for natural and satisfying! And be sure one meal a day is accompanied by the power of a small glass of wine, which contains bioactive pigments, tannins and antioxidants found in grape skins. The book includes 100 recipes - many of which are of the gourmet variety (Eggs Provencale, Asian Fish en Papillote, and Walnut-Chocolate Stuffed Figs).
The Wine Lover’s Healthy Weight Loss Plan also advises
- How to shop for wine and healthy foods.
- How to pair wine with food, and how to cook with it.
- How to add balance and flavor to meals.
- The Sonoma Diet recommends (in Wave 2) that a glass of wine should accompany one meal a day.
- The California Wine Country Diet also has an emphasis on wine.
- Then of course, there is the Wine and Food Lover's Diet - due to be released in November 06...
Winemakers and vineyard owners will be rejoicing.
Well, my wife will be glad to hear this as she is the wine drinker in the family. She has a glass of wine about 3 times a week while we are having dinner so I'll make sure I tell her about wine making it's way back into weight loss.
ReplyResearch has shown several countries have low incidences of heart disease and cancer even though their diets are high in fat and carbohydrate.
These regions include France and several areas within the Mediterranean. The popular Mediterranean diet was inspired from these studies. One of the common ingredients in the diets of these cultures was found to be red wine.
ReplyThat's true, However, It's important to keep things in perspective. Portugal has one of the highest incidences of stroke of any country and consumption of red wine is quite high. Red wine is certainly not a cure all.
