Maiden Love Revolution

When it comes to video games - you get the good, the bad, the ugly... and just plain weird. According to Wired, Maiden Love Revolution is a PS2 best seller in Japan. It's a "diet sim" - a former supermodel gets fat, and you help her get thin again so that she can find a date. This ain't no Dance Dance Revolution - the only thing you exercise are your button-pushing fingers.

This is a game for the Japanese market. You tend to see very few overweight Japanese - so perhaps the game is an odd novelty - or maybe a shrewd mockery of perceived US culture.

Players assume the role of 220-pound Hitomi Sakurakawa as she struggles to slim down - mostly by restricting her diet. To advance, Hitomi must count calories and increase her exercise.

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a virtual person virtually exercise.

Mph. Very funny, Japan. :P Catharsis in the third degree (though I suppose that even I could appreciate seeing Naomi Campbell fill out like the Michelin Man).

Obesity in Japan is rising from a sedentary life style. I wish game makers made Sim style games that involved movement.

PS
I think showing that if you’re fat you can’t get a boyfriend or husband is way wrong. Weight loss should be about health.

Oh wow, you know that there running outta Game selling options when they start making a mockery of "fat" people, whatever happened to the good old days of playing super mario, heck get these kids outside. Video games are WAY over rated...

o.o;; Now I'm waiting for the technology to come out that makes people put on the virtual visors and act out the actual exercise and such that you have to go through in the game. That would make it so much more interesting and effective (not to mention healthy) than counting calories day after day, strengthening those crucial thumb muscles with that controller...

Than again, virtual visors would make most games more fun and interesting ^_^;
