One Day Diet: Scams and Science
A one day diet is an extreme way of 'zig-zagging' food intake. Rather than small variations, every other day is essentially a fast. This style of eating may not be particularly sustainable or sociable - however it does have a small following.
Unfortunately there is at least one company that has been quick to fraudulently capitalize on the idea.
The Scam
This company (operating under a number of names) has run radio advertisements offering to pay $1000 for a 'diet study'. Just that claim alone is enough to put most people off. A quick examination of the site showed that the so-called 'survey' you must undertake was not even recording any data - it was all a trick. You can fill out the forms - but they were not even submitted back to the web site!
Then comes the Better Business Bureau report:
One Day Diet/Products for Life/DietStudy.com is looking for participants in, what they claim, is a weight-loss study. When a BBB rep, posing as a potential customer, called the company, she was told that the typical weight loss was 20-30 pounds in 90 days. The “One Day Diet” consists of weight-loss tablets, supplements and dieting every other day. There is a $150 “deposit” for the first month and $75 per month charge for the following months. At the end of the 3-month “study,” the money is supposed to be refunded, and $1,000 is supposed to be paid to the participant. The BBB rep was also told that the company is a BBB member. Not true! 118 complaints have been filed against this Wisconsin company, and they have the Bureau’s lowest rating. One Diet-Blog reader reported following the diet and losing 16 pounds. She explained the diet as this:"Every other day is actually a semi-fast, during which you may eat unlimited raw fruits and veggies. On opposite days, you may eat what you wish."
I suggest you avoid the so-called diet study - and save your money.
UPDATE (May 2007): We have received the following response from Julie Hawkins of Products for Life:
"We are not a Wisconsin company. When we began our study we hired an outside phone room to take the calls. We had a couple rogue sales reps that really gave misinfo. We do not claim any weight loss expectation at all and we were not members of the BBB. It is unfortunate that misinfo was given, but not fair to focus on this. We terminated the relationship with the phone room and all info given to the consumer by any phone room we use has to follow a specific script and cannot deviate from it. We have since implemented safeguards and training so that call centers adhere to the correct information."
The Science of Eating Every Other Day
John Daugirdas has developed his own diet - "The QOD Diet" - based on the principles of fasting every other day. It's obvious that Daugirdas has spent considerable time researching out the science behind the concept.
The alternate days of fasting (or near-fasting) deplete glycogen stores - however Daugirdas recommends taking in high-quality protein during the off days to prevent any lean mass (muscle) depletion.
Our long-term energy storage bank is fat, and short-term debit account is glycogen. If you eat constantly, your glycogen stores are full up. So you are always then vulnerable to weight gain, even if your caloric intake is not very high. Any transient excess of food now can no longer go to glycogen - so it goes to fat. This is NOT balanced off by short term periods of fasting, since your body simply draws down on your glycogen stores, and has no need to go to your fat stores.Daugirdas' QOD diet (QOD is Latin for "every other day"), is obviously not a fad diet book written for mass market profits. It's an experimental work based on methods that may have some merit.
However - in this age of eating disorders - and the multitude of psychological issues that surround eating - I would not recommend fasting for weight loss. Young women (in particular) do not need their meal-skipping habits validated. Also if you have any kind of blood glucose sensitivity - severe energy depletion on the off days can play havoc with energy levels (not to mention the irritability).
Rebecca:
Where in the fine print did you read about the 2-minute daily recap. I have read all my materials again over and over to find it and I have not seen it at all. Can you tell me exactly where it is so I can work on this?
Thanks : )
ReplyI did not see anything about a 2 minute recap neither. There are different phases of this diet study. The one I am doing is Phase II...is that what yours was Rebecca? In my fine print, it did not state that I had to have a doctor's letter with my registration form, but at the end of it yes. Oh well if I don't get the money, but it was worth a shot. I just finished my two months and had to send off my SASE. If I get a reply, maybe that'll show that I am on the right track with the fine print. But other than that, I am pretty sure I have read over everything because I was that paranoid about being disqualified.
ReplyOh yeah, another thing is that my diet study does not allow me to eat veggies. ONLY FRUIT! It stated that with previous studies it did not yield much weight loss when participants were allowed to eat veggies, so they suggested you only eat fruit on the diet days. I should be done next month and I have to admit, it has been hard to stay on track with this. I am not used to starving myself completely!
ReplyI did Phase II of the study as well, but I've gotten the feeling that they've been changing requirements as more people have signed up. If you go to the FAQs on their website (studysupportonline.com), for instance, they say that they no longer require bloodwork (cholesterol panel at the beginning and end of the diet), but they did require it when I signed up. And I was a little unclear on the doctor's letters, so I called and asked about them. The representative confirmed that they require a letter at the beginning AND at the end. But this too could have changed since I started on March 1st.
The "2 Minutes A Day Recap" was mentioned on a sheet in my initial materials, with the headline "All You Need Is Enough Will Power...." yada yada. There's a paragraph after the numbered list of tasks that just barely mentions it. But if it's really not mentioned in your materials, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you have scoured the fine print several times and make sure you don't miss anything. =)
I had seen on their website that they switched from fruit and veggies on diet days to only fruit, though for people who just buy the diet, as far as I understand, the bottles (or maybe the box they come in?) still say that you can eat fruits AND vegetables. I think this whole thing is kind of a work in progress for the company doing it. It certainly has been marketing genius though, in my opinion. By offering to pay those select few that can jump through all the hoops, they get thousands to sign up for the study that won't make it to the end, and thousands more who hear about it and just purchase the diet to try it out without the committment. Pure genius. They must be making BANK!
One side note: A friend of mine purchased the diet and quickly decided it wasn't for her. She said that even though they promised a refund if the product was returned within 60 days of receiving it, it was subject to a "restocking fee" of $25/bottle. Ouch!
ReplyI am also on Phase II. I cannot eat Veggies...only fruit. I did not need bloodwork. I have been in communication with the Support Team via phone a few times and they have always been courteous and answered all my questions. They did tell me that they are trying different types of studies, so some may be on a different study than another. Maybe that is why some of us do some things and some don't.
Next week is time to send in my SASE to prepare for my final month. This whole experience has been amazing. My husband is offically down 12 lbs (2 weeks).
ReplyI participated in the One Day Diet Study. I started at the beginning of January 2006 and finished at the beginning of April 2006. I lost 46 lbs. and after submitting all of the required documentation, received a check back for the amount I paid for the diet pills + the $1,000 offered on the radio. I was very satisfied. I did not continue with the diet after the study was finished, as I had the gist of what I needed to do to lose the remaining 5 lbs I wanted to lose. To date, I have lost a total of 52 lbs. and am happy as a clam. I am right now typing this out on my new Dell computer I bought with the money I got back from the One Day Diet study people.
ReplyJay:
Congrats and great job!!
ReplyThis so obviously SCREAMS "SCAM!!!! BIG FAT SCAM!!!!" I can't believe how many of you are falling for it. I honestly never believe that people really fall for scams, because they're usually so obvious. But this proves it!
What happened to good old fashioned healthy eating and exercise? The basic eat less/move more principle? Anything that tells you to starve yourself every other day and hop yourself up on caffiene just to get through it is DODGY.
ReplyAmy: What a shame you are so closed minded. It seems like everytime someone finds success in some type of diet plan, there is always someone ready to yell "scam" (ie. Atkins, etc.)
I have lost 20 lbs in 7 weeks and my husband 14 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. My husband takes the Sun Crystals. I do NOT.
My doctor was also very skeptical at first. Now, she is in total amazement of the inches and pounds I have lost. She cannot believe that I am not even hungry on my diet days.
Like any other diet, this diet is not for everyone. But shame on you to shout "scam" just because you may not be able to have success at this when there are obviously several others who are doing great!!
ReplyToday is my 89th day on the One Day Diet. I've just returned from my doctor appointment and have lost 25 pounds total. I intend to stay on the diet for another few months, or at least a modified version of it, to lose more. Yes, I was very skeptical in the beginning. But I'm delighted to have been able to have success.
ReplyWhen I was a young adult, I was always thin and active. In my forties, Weight Watchers worked fine when I gained some weight. Then came menopause, and the deaths of my husband, my dog, and my mother (in that order). Deep depression followed. At the same time, I had to continue with a normal business life in my profession. I am still a weekend caretaker for my father, but with the help of my physician and friends, I came out of depression and looked into the mirror. Now in my fifties and 45 pounds overweight, I tried diet and exercise. I then went back to Weight Watchers. I've never been an overeater; nor do I drink soda or eat sweets. But I could not lose weight.
So, what the heck...I tried this diet. And, guess what? I'll get my "after" pictures taken tomorrow and I'm going to continue this life-change. I personally liked the effects of the Sun Crystals, once I got the knack of how to use them. Searching on-line for a way to buy just the crystals is how I came across this blog. I have more energy, I sleep fine, and I'm happy again when I look in the mirror. My biggest problem occurs in the evenings on my diet days, so I also go to bed early on those days. Money or not, I'm glad to have found a solution for me. But, I agree...this will not work for everyone. I no longer need to prepare food for anyone but myself since my kids are grown and I now live alone. This was an ideal diet for me.
I will be submitting for my $1000.00 next week so I'll update this blog if I get it.
I participated in the one day diet study and found it to be very helpfull. I never went hungry on my diet days because I could eat as much fruit as I wanted and the food tabs fill you and are good. It helped me relearn how I am supposed to eat and the perportion sizes that I should be eating. My sister-in-law who is big into fitness was very interested and she gave it a try as well and liked it. So dont be so negative about something until you have tried it or know some one who has. Also since I completed the study I have been reimbured for the product and paid the $1000.00 that I was told I would get if I completed the study so I am sure that it is not a scam
ReplyI too feel that the one day diet is a scam. When I first joined over the phone I asked questions. I even asked if "they made you jump through hoops to complete the study". They just made everything sound so easy.
When I received the material and saw that only "qualified" participants would receive the $1,000 dollars and you wouldn't find out if you qualified until the end of the study, I got worried. I contacted them through their website and gave them an ear full of my concerns. They never contacted me. I have e-mailed them on more than one occassion. I never got a second or third shippment of pills either. They must have thought I was irrate and decided not to deal with me. I only wanted to know if this torturing diet was going to be worth it. I have stayed on the diet somewhat. I lost 6 pounds the first month and gained it all back the second month. I think they just took my $150. innitially and decided to write me off as a trouble maker. I'm sure they will find some excuse to not pay me the money. I even told them to begin with that I did not want to buy diet pills, and I was assured that this was a refundable deposit for people who complete the study. Now I am finding the website to try to contact them is getting harder to find. That is how I found this site. I thought the company was located in Las Vegas NV. One of the articles on this site mentioned the company was based in Wisconsin. Does anyone know the corporate address and the name of the CEO? I might sue them...I don't like being scammed.
Sincerely, Nancy
ReplySo no one has received the $1000 bucks?
ReplyHuge scam. I am delighted for those of you who lost weight, but I DID jump through hoop after hoop and was refused payment at the last possible minute.
I have now spent about $800 in Dr. fees, photo development and mailers, and product bills (which the initial rep. mistakenly told me I would 'automatically' be reimbursed for!)and have nothing but about a 9 lb. weight loss to show for it.
I despise being lied to and I hope they are shut down.
ReplyI'm in the same boat as Angela. I've spent alot of money and been lied to. Is'nt there anything that we can do about it? It's got to be illegal. Anyone got the company address and CEO name so I can pursue legal action. Any advise out there? I originally posted my comments on 7-16-2006 and am waiting a reply.
ReplyIf you read up the posts a bit, you will see there are a few people that actually got paid for doing the study. To me, the $1000 is a plus, but if I dont get paid, all is not lost. I have lost 25 lbs in 2 1/2 months. My husband has lost 20 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. This diet has saved my life. My doctor is thrilled and cannot believe how my cholesterol has dropped. Again, this diet is not for everyone, but if you were just in it for the $1000 and the reimbursement, it is not surprising you were not as successful as you had hoped. I plan on continuing this even after the study is over. I wish all of you success!!
ReplyWe must stand up for the truth. I have been paid $1000 plus my product price. I have had great success using the One Day Diet concept of eating every other day. Before I joined the Study I was skeptical like some of the blogs i have been reading. After going on the diet for 90 days, I have had phenomenal success. It has changed my eating habits. I feel much better and several of my friends are now using One Day Diet. After investigating the company and talking directly to a representative of the company, I was informed how successful this product has been in many peoples lives. I feel this is a very unique way of dieting. I feel I need tomake people understand that this diet might not be for everyone. I have heard alot of criticism of people that haven't even done the diet, but out of skepticism declared it a scam. First, we must all take a hard look at ourselves in the mirror and say "why am I overweight". The concept of eating every other day has changed my life. On my diet days Im allowed to eat all the fruits and vegetables I need with lots of fruit and water. Our bodies were originally designed to feast and famine. For those scientists or doctors who think fasting is so dangerous, Give me a break. How bout the other alternative, eating fast food and drinking alcohol? Everything we put in our body has some type of effect. As far as the protein aspect, I have concluded, due to American eating habits, they arent even getting the required protein on a daily basis. For those of you with issues with Customer Service I called 800-344-1805 and they helped with any concerns. Im a little irritated with people who are fast to ridicule a new way of dieting/weight loss. ALl of the criticisms seem to be from people who didnt even try the diet and are waiting for a miracle pill. One day diet is an all natural diet without any side effects im aware of. We all know the severe and deadly side effects of pharmaceuticals, ie., fen fen, etc., etc., etc. Ive tried every diet, none taught me how to be independent in my food choices and none allowed me to keep the weight off when i was done. After all of them i immediately gained back, not this one and i eater healthier and have learned to eat healthier than ever in my life. Alot of people don't know how to eat, but when they can stick to something like this for 90 days, new patterns are ingrained in their psyche, its no longer about will power, you just know how to choose better and you do and the weight stays off.
ReplySeeing that people think they are mislead, lets get dow to the true facts. This is a reduced caloric intake and exercise diet that is very unique. I would like to find out why this Blog is giving out false information ad misleading people. I have checked into the 118 BBB complaints.I cant find them and this is misleading alot of people. This is the largest study done on dieting every other day and the information gathered will be use for a useful purpose. I feel people are making a judgement without the facts. People who have lost weight on this diet should stand up and tell their success. AS far as paying for the product, the benefit, ive seen is if im only eating every other day, it has saved me money, more than i spent on the product. If you can do it by yourself without the product, go ahead and try it. It's not so easy without te help of food tabs and sun crystals. Is it all about the $1000. i remember they asked me if i was more interested in the money or losing weight. It seems like alot of people must have lied and said they were more intereested in weight loss than the money. For those of you that have had success with One Day Diet, Im happy for you. Stay strong and share your success. Dont judge a book by its cover.
Hi all - I just wanted to check in - I originally posted back in may. I have been doing this diet since march 23rd - and now have lost 36 lbs. I am almost to my goal weight. This has been a great diet for me!!! Good luck to the rest of you!!
ReplyLynn:
WELL SAID!! That was an amazing post. I was never even asked when I signed up what was more important, the payout or the weight loss. To me, it was always the weight loss and the payout an incentive. I am 45 lbs away from my goal and I intend on continuing this diet well after my 90 day mark in 2 weeks. I, unfortunately, cannot take the Sun Crystals. But my husband says they help him alot. My husband was never really able to stick to any diet....except this one!! He loves it and all the people at his job are asking about it. You are right, it is not for everyone. But for those it is for, it is amazing!! Good luck to you Lynn!! Also good luck to Kinda and all the other dieters. 2 1/2 months and now down 28 lbs!!
ReplyI was not able to complete the program because I became sick and had to eat to take my medication. However, when I did do the diet, I lost weight. Now I have three sets of the product left (never opened). I will be selling them on ebay. Before I do that, if anyone is interested (chocolate wafers and sun crystals), please e-mail me at ksn66@bellsouth.net. Thanks. Kristi
ReplyHello all!
I am 73 days into the program. I have been keeping a journal every night just for my own observations. I was surprised to here that is one of their requirements for the money. I never read anything about that in the paperwork so I am very glad I did it on my own.
I have been losing about 1 lb a week. It was 9 lbs at the end of 8 weeks and I haven't been weighed in 2 weeks but my clothes are feeling looser every week. My friends all ask and are curious about the diet.
I went to a forth of July picnic and ate ONLY fruit and was fine with it. What do I care what people think, they don't really even notice if I'm engaging and happy. I'm not sulking about being deprived, and that's a huge difference in this diet and the MANY others I've tried. On my eating days I realize I can eat anything and sometimes I eat a dessert and others I just don't feel like it. This diet has taught me delayed gratification when it comes to food, something adults don't usually practice.
ReplyI was wearing 10 and 12's whan I started and now I'm into 8's and hope to finish in 6's and a few 4's. I'm only 5'1" and 45 years old.
It is the easiest diet for me to follow and an added plus.... I am NOT expected to cook for the family on fruit days! They know it's left overs or fend for themselves! Love it!
I'll let you know how the $1,000.00 goes since I only have about 3 more weeks to go.
I decided to give this a chance 4 months ago because I could stand to lose a few pounds and gain a few bucks. After completing the study I sent my info in and waited for a couple of weeks. I went online to research and after reading some of these posts, I immediately felt stupid for trying it and upset that I wasted my money. Two days later I received a check in the mail for exactly $1,219.98!! I decided to write this because it seems like the only times any discussions come up, it's to bash and discredit these kind of studies. Well, it worked for me. I am 20 lbs lighter and over $1,000 richer! I no longer stick to the "one day on, one day off" regimin but I haven't gained any of the weight back. I like the way I look now which helps me make better food choices.
ReplyThe theory regarding the metabolism lowering itself after a few days of drastically reduced caloric intake appears to be accurate, at least for me. The 1 day Diet is a little to extreme for me so I modified it to meet my needs and guess what, it worked. What I didn't like about the 1 day diet was the wafers, the 1st ingredient listed is sugar, and I'm not going to pay 49.95 for a few added vitamins and sugar. Here is what I did, and in 12 weeks I've lost 15 lbs. That may not sound like a lot to most of you, but for someone trying to lose 20 lbs it might as well be 200 if it won't come off.
I took into consideration the lowering of the metabolism as the bodies safety net against starvation. I've heard this long before the 1 day diet became popular, but never really gave it much consideration. On my regular food day, I eat a well balanced diet, 3 meals a day plus snacks which include, fruit and nuts. It rounds out to about 2000 calories a day give or take a few hundred.
On my reduced food day, I have a lean protein shake upon waking, have coffee with milk later in the morning and drink a few bottles of water. Lunch is usually 1 cup of nonfat plain yogurt with 2 scoops of lean protein powder which makes it like a pudding, and an apple, dinner is salad with lots of colored vegetables and a vinegarete, with a side of what ever vegetable is in my garden at the time, and a soy and turkey pattie or other lean protein, doesn't have to be meat, soy works just as well, with another apple after dinner. My reduced food day at about 700-1000 calories. I have been doing this for 12 weeks. I take vitamin supplement, and extra calcium and C & E daily, which I would do anyway. I also walk 4 miles a day. The combination of the eating and exercising works for me and is very liveable. I feel great, have lots of energy.
ReplyThe 1 day diet is pretty extreme, however it seems to work for a lot of folks that go on it. For me it was too extreme, and the wafers didn't have enough nutrients to make it worth the price. And of course that's what they are selling is the wafers. Save your money and try a more liveable approach to weight loss.
I disputed the charges to my credit card but recently learned that the credit card company did not have the same trouble getting through to Customer Service that I have continually had. My credit card company received a written reply denying that I have ever tried to reach them (I continually called and e-mailed to be taken off the program auto ship and to get my money back but never received any kind of response from the company) and that they only 'honor' a 30 day MBG. The response to my CC company came from Natural Products World, c/o Listen Up LLC, 40 Manson Libby Road, Scarborough, ME 04074. I put this info in here for anyone who might want to contact the company in writing.
The only way I was able to get them to quit billing my card was to cancel it.
I hope the rest of you get better results than I have gotten.
If anyone has been successful in getting your money back, would you please let me know?
ReplyI completed the One-Day Diet on July 19th and submitted all the required paper work July 28th. So, it remains to be seen if I receive any payment.
I did not do well on this diet. Too much starving on the diet days, and I could not tolerate the Sun Crystals. According to the doctor's scale I lost a total of 7 pounds in 90 days. According to my scale I lost 12 pounds. Go figure. But my clothes fit better now, which is a good indication that I was losing something. It appears that quite a few folks have done very well on the diet. Congratulations to you!
Has anyone heard about hoodia and how it works as a diet aid?
ReplyWell, on Friday ended my 90 day study. The results? 28 pounds in 90 days!! I love it!! As soon as my doctor finishes filling out my paperwork, I will be sending it in. Whether I receive the money or not remains to be seen, but I can tell you that I will be continuing this for another 40 lbs till I get to my goal weight! I am so happy and so proud that I was able to do this. This diet is the best thing!! Good Luck all!!
ReplyI have read all the comments that are being written about the One A Day Diet. I just finished the 3 month study yesterday..in the process of getting all the info together now to send in for my final submission. The diet worked for me. I lost exactly 20 lbs. in the last 3 months. Started the diet May 8,06 and finished Aug. 8,06. Will I get paid my $1000.00? I don't know!! And I don't care! I didn't do this study for the money. I did it for ME!!!! I am 47 yrs old, not a easy task to loose weight at this stage of my life. I feel better, I look better. My blood pressure lowered considerably over the last 3 months, My body mass has lowered termendously. I am not a couch potatoe anymore..I walk 1 mile a day now..The complements from my husband, family and friends have done wonders for my ego..As I am writting this,I am wearing a pair of jeans that I had put away in my closet 3 years ago because I could no longer fit into them..So what if I paid $300.00 for the wafers, vitamins and suncrystals that I recieved? It WORKS!! Anyone look into how much slim-fast would actually cost if you stuck to it for 3 months? Jenny-Craig? You have to buy thier food..A friend of mine spent over $1500.00 on Jenny-Craig..so what was $300.00? I lost weight, I lost inches, My blood pressure improved, My body mass went down, I gained confidence, I'm excercising...$300.00 well spent!
ReplyCharrie - I'm with you. The $300 I have spent on this study don't even compare to the amount I forked out for other diet plans. I did this for me, to see if it would work. I don't care if I receive the $1000 or the $300 re-imbursement. I am the type of person who needs to continually make changes to my diet (meal plans or diet plans) as I reach plateaus very easily and I struggle to move off. All of the weight I lost on the study came off in the first month. I crossed every T and dotted every I during the entire study and had no results after the first month. But this is typical for me. My results are not as impressive as others, but then I have also been dieting for almost 2 years and I am struggling to lose the last 25 pounds.....the toughest part.
To be quite honest any diet plan you choose is a scam to some degree. Someone else posted that there is not one diet that is going to work for everyone. As such, this diet is a scam to someone who had no result just as jenny craig, weight watchers, slim fast, etc. is to someone else. Not to mention those are nationally advertised "proven" diets and no one calls them a scam, but they are to anyone who had no results!!! I also believe some people (like myself) will never find just one diet that will work for them.
The best results that I have seen is when I alternated between two diet plans for about six months. On the average I lost 8 pounds every 6 weeks. Participating in this study re-inforced what I already knew about my ability to lose weight. It also made me feel more comfortable about alternating diets to get through plateaus. I plan to use One Day Diet as an alternating plan to reach my goal weight.
I'm not saying this is the best plan on the market or that this plan will work for everyone. I do believe this diet is excellent for some people and others will have no results. Just give it a try and see how it works for you. Even if the $1000 is a scam (which I am sure I will soon figure out), I don't believe the diet in and of itself is. You really have nothing to lose except some unwanted pounds. So, just give it a try!!!
ReplyDiet is a 4-letter word.....enough said!
ReplyTo "Just Try It"
ReplyYou are right. This diet isn't for everyone as some other diets aren't for everyone. I hope you find the right combination to lose that last 25 lbs. that you are struggling with. With your determination and will power that it sounds like you have, You will do this!! Best wishes. This ODD diet worked totally opposite with me..I lost most of my weight the last month. It was like all of a sudden my metabolism kicked in and the weight just melted off. It has been 9 days now since I finished the diet and have lost another pound since my last weight in..which I was very concerned that when I went off the diet I would gain it all back..but smaller portions, still eating alot of fruits instead of the wrong snacks, walking, has helped me to maintain plus continue to lose. I look at my before pictures and after pictures everyday now..(keep one of each on my refrigerator) and I can't get over the difference. I feel they will disqualify me because they will say the pictures were not 80% professional..but that's okay with me..because those pictures are 100% proof to me that I did it, and it really did make a difference and that's all that matters to me.
I started the One Day Diet study in May and I am finishing up my 3 months this week. I have lost 30lbs so far. I think this is one of the easiest diets to follow. People have said it is not good to fast or eat as little as they want you to but I have modified mine so I guess I eat a little more on my "fasting days". Being a college kid, I have grown used to skipping breakfast and only eating 2 meals a day. On my "fasting days" I will eat an apple, nectarine, or grapes for lunch and maybe a small salad and for dinner I usually make a bigger salad with meat and cheese. I take 4 sun crystals on my food days (2 before lunch and 2 before dinner). If I want something sweet I will usually have sugar-free candy or ice cream. I drink a lot of water and sometimes unsweet tea with splenda. I know that the first 2 weeks were hard for me but I got used to it. I also stopped taking my wafers because they were nasty. I will probably stay on it even after the study period is over because I want to loose more. I did excerise a little but trust me it was not much. Sometimes I cheated on my fasting days as far as snacking but I tried to make my snacks low calorie. Being a short person (just over 5 foot) I needed to loose the weight, plus the family history of high blood pressure and diabetes did not help. I am happy that I went from 210 to 180/181. My immediate goal was to be under 200 and now that I reached that I ultimately want to be 135-140. After reading some of these posts, I am glad to know that they do pay you and that isn't a scam. I am not so worried about the $1000 but I do want my deposit back. All in all, I feel so happy to be under 200 again and can't wait until I get down to 135-140. Good Luck to all who are trying this diet or are thinking about trying it.
ReplyI started the diet late April and completed late July. I have to say it has changed my awareness on portion control, I think twice about how much I eat. I have not had carbonated beverages since April and don’t seem to miss them. The crystals seemed to give me the energy I needed. I lost a total of 16 lbs. I did everything that was required of me by the study. I went to all doctor visits and submitted photos, etc. in a timely manner. I’m wondering if I’ll get the $1000 plus the deposits for the product. One of my concerns was the fact that I was never able to get a live person on the phone and I had no way of canceling the product except through my bank we I reluctantly did. I gave myself a month break from the product and will go back on the diet for another month. I plateaued about 3 times but got over the hump after two weeks each time. I was glad to see someone received the money. I said from the beginning it would be nice to get the money, but in the end, the weight off is so much more important to my health and personal self esteem. One of the things that made me sign up is that it was a personal commitment to myself where I’d have to be honest with myself, put it in writing, see a doctor and commit to 3 months of dieting. After I took my personal pictures, I just wanted to make it happen. I think that in itself is a personal motivator. As far as the cash goes, yes I’d like to receive it, if not to reward myself for dropping the extra pounds and buying some nice fall clothes. After all, my clothes are now too big. I’ll write back if I get an award.
ReplyI've counted at least 4 people on this board (on this page alone!)that received their money.
First and foremost, I think there are several companies out there selling this 'diet' and speaking generically to all of them is ignorant. I have no doubt that some might not be on the up-and-up, but I only have experience with one;RLWLS
Let's define scam, shall we? Although I understand a skeptical approach, let's reveiw what this company promises; They will pay QUALIFIED participants.
They do not promise that EVERYONE will get paid.
They ask if your only motivation is the money and will advise you NOT to try it if is.
This is NOT EASY MONEY!
Free money is a scam. This is not free money. You DO have to jump through a few hoops, so if you want to define scam as something that looks too good to be true, you are probably better off not participating. But unless you are willing and able to meet the guidelines required for payment, you can't advise others that it is a scam.
Let me tell you, it is not easy to QUALIFY for the payment. It IS relatively easy to QUALIFY for the study, but you actually have to work a little in order to get paid. There ARE rules, but there is also alot of flexibility in meeting what should be your primary goal; weight loss.
Most people on this message board are quite happy with their results, but as with any diet, it doesn't work for everyone.
If your goal is the money, you would probably get more assurance of easy money if you gave blood to the Red Cross or (if you are male) sold your sperm.
I can guarantee that not everyone will get paid. Not everyone will be able to fufill the requirements for payment. But if you are like most, the money attracted you to something that ended up being more valuable.
ReplyCall it a bribe, if you will, but it is not a scam. They will pay you, but you have to meet THEIR criteria, not your own.
Back in March, 2006, I called the One Day Diet promotion after my local radio station KQRS had their spot on (for only 3 days--- after which KQ terminated their ads) and found out that they wanted to me pay for the product first and ascertained that only maybe I'd get the $1000 if I did everything in their study right.
Thought there probably was a similar but easier way to get the same results that they claimed. Did an internet search and found out about QOD, the guy who posted earlier---- and instead of irritating him by mispelling his name-- will only say that his research is sound and I have been able to use it effectively.
Starting May 1st, 2006 (6'2" male starting weight 230--):
I walk 4 miles a day. I eat only fruit (with one small glass of V8 Juice) Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
All the rest of the days I eat "normally" which means about 1900 - 2300 calories with about 60 grams of fat.
As of today, Sept. 4th, 2006
Results:
I've lost 26 pounds, current weight 204. That is losing 6 pounds a month or 1.5 pounds a week. Cost: less than any plan you can pay for.
Suggestion:
Check out QOD, if nothing more for the research.
(In no way am I affiliated with QOD or the unpronounceable author of it. But I give him my thanks for the great information.)
ReplyHello everybody! I posted a few months back and just wanted to update everybody. I only lost 7.5 lbs on this diet. It was not for me! I guess from dieting all of my life, it just did not work well. I'm not really sure what it was, but I did not put 100% into this. Also, if any of you are still waiting for payment or are nearing the end of your 3 month study, if you go to the website http://www.yourdietstudysupport.com they announce on the home page that they have reached their quota of 1000 participants paid! So I guess there will be no more waiting for me. They received my packet on August 14th, but I never heard back from them, so I am assuming that I am not going to be paid, which is fine with me. I'm just letting yall know!
ReplyJean and everyone else:
They do NOT tell you immediately if you will receive your check. I did my homework by calling support at the end of the study to get all my information together to know what to expect. They told me that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to either get a check or a denial letter. If they received your info on August 14th...which is around the same time they received mine...it is still way too soon to expect to hear anything.
I lost 30 lbs on this diet! I went off the diet for about 3 weeks (vacation, etc.) and I am miserable. I have not really gained any weight back, but I just do not feel as "healthy" as when I was doing. I will be re-starting it ASAP. I got so used to the every other day fasting...I can't imagine not doing it.
Good luck everyone!
ReplyFor all of those people that need to lose weight but are more worried about the $1000, all i have to say is shut up and stop bitching. this diet works, and if did actually try it you would see that. losing weight is all that matters (well to most of us). so stop bitching please!!! But for all you greedy people, people do lose weight and get paid. if you want to see it for yourself go to www.paidparticipants.com
ReplyI signed up for the one day diet. Yes, it worked for me. I lost 13 pounds. Not a huge amount, but some and it has stayed off. I submitted my paperwork two months ago and have heard nothing. I did not do it to make some money. It is just that there were out of pocket expenses I had to pay (doctors apts) that the money would have helped with. I asked them when I signed up how to know if we would be included in the 1000 people to be paid. They told me that if we were accepted into the study, then we would get paid as long as we did everything correctly.
I just got off the phone with customer service. They told me they intentionally missled me. (He actually said that). He said they took way more than the 1000 people and now they are all paid out. Now, the only was you get any money back is if you had good enough results for them to use for their add.
I can walk away happy with the results, but it is never okay to mislead the consumer. I asked all the right questions, but was lied to.
ReplyTo Truth you need to hear it....good grief, take it easy! These CUSTOMERS are just asking for what was promised -- it was a STUDY -- and in addition to participating and losing, the marketing promise was that you would get $1000 if you jump through all the hoops which is time consuming, going to the doc etc, for some paying their co-pays, etc. To some people that money is also attractive. It goes back to the integrity of the company producing the product. Customers just want to see that people were paid as promised and I'm glad to see that happened. The company is obviously reputable. I was happy personally with the product, but I don't think people should be considered greedy for expecting what was promised... that is just plain silly! I work in customer service, if companies don't deliver what is promised, it will result in negatively on their product in the market - a big SAD mistake.
Also, those that participated and were not selected as part of the 1000 people to receive cash awards, they should receive their money back they invested in the product - but you should call. I called and they said I was on a call back "list" to get my initial amount refunded, less shipping fees. They told me by calling they'd kick out the check. I have been promised a check in 10-14 days.
ReplyI was paid 1,000 as a successful participant in the one day diet weight loss campaign. NOT ONLY THAT IN 90 DAYS I LOST A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WEIGHT, ALL VERIFIED AND CHARTED BY MY DOCTOR. WHEN I COMPLETED THE STUDY I SUBMITTED THE NECESSARY INFORMATION AND WAS REFUNDED MY DEPOSIT MONEY PLUS $1,000 SO I LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT IN 90 DAYS AND MADE $1000 BY DOING IT. SINCE THEN THEY'VE SENT ME MORE PRODUCT FOR FREE SO I CAN CONTINUE MY WEIGHT LOSS, THEY ARE PAYING FOR MY AIRFARE AND HOTEL TO BE IN THEIR UPCOMING TV COMMERCIALS. THEY AREN'T FAKES! THEIR COMPANY HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!
