Lip Balm Appetite Suppressant
What is it with appetite suppressants? I've seen sprays, patches, and pills by the truckload. Now we have lip-balms - such as "Promise" from Omega Tech Labs (thanks Dennise).
PROMISE is applied to the lips of people that are snacking and picking at food or tempted to eat large meals. When the urge to snack or have a large meal strikes... Apply liberally to your lips. It 'helps' curb your appetite. A weight management tool. You can use it as often as you like.
I like the way the word helps is in quotes. The inventor of the product has this to say:
...once people apply the product and their lips become moist, they become aware of what they're eating and begin to moderate their food intake. For smokers, it's the same thing. He says the essential oils work to satisfy some of the cravings, but the most effective way to stop is deciding that you want to.(via)Promise contains the following ingredients: Oils of : Castor, Coconut, Spearmint, Jojoba, Evening Primrose, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Ginger, Yerba Mate, Vitamin E.
Sounds good enough to eat - never mind suppressing the appetite.

You can get the same effect from ANY lip balm. Smearing minty/fruity/waxy goo all over your lips makes you not want to eat. I often put lip balm or lipstick on after eating so I'm not tempted to eat and smear it.
ReplyThank you for writing about this. I am a lip balm junkie and have been reading advertisements for "Promise" in a few magazines that I get. I was so curious if it would work and why. I like the list of ingredients and would probably buy it for that.
ReplyEVERYTHING I READ SOUNDS GREAT TO ME
ReplyAbout the only way this would work is if it glued your lips together such that you could not open your mouth for a few hours.

ReplyAnother BS product.
All you need to do is to eat more fruits, veggies, and grass fed meat, go organic, and kick the habit of eating french fries, pasteries, junk foods, and fried foods.
Avoid trans fats, processed sugars, and artificial sweetners and synthetic ingredients. Use stevia as your primary sweetner. These people said about aspartame that it has no link towards cancer is tainted and vague.
And what will they come up with next? Fat melt gel? Go figure.
ReplyAt least the ingredients seem benign.
ReplyI don't snack and overeat because I'm always hungry, I do it because I want to chew on something, or taste something good, or because I'm bored. If they can come up with a lip balm that cures boredom and munchies, I'll be their first customer. Until then..... I'll stick with the plain old stick.
ReplyHow can they make these claims? There's no reason to believe it does anything out of the ordinary.
