The No S Diet
No Snacks, No Sweets, No Seconds. Except (sometimes) on days that start with S.
That's the basis of Reinhard Engels' No S Diet - where simplicity is the key.
Engels claims that most diets can be split into two categories:
- Pseudoscientific taboo/miracle food diets that pretend that you can go on being a glutton as long as you confine your gluttony to a particular class of foods while completely excluding others (no agreement on what these particular kinds of foods are, of course).
- Diets that require you to be a full time calorie accountant.
In all honesty, he's mostly right. Most diets have a very short life. Inevitably, after just a few weeks or months, most people ditch the diet and return to their former eating patterns.
The No S Diet has got most of the bases covered.
- No Seconds - portion control
- No Sweets - nutrition
- No Snacks - nutrition - most people tend to snack out on foods that are fatty and very salty.
What are S Days? Saturdays and Sundays (no stressing on the weekend), and Special days (you can eat cake on your birthday).
A smart and simple idea. Check it out.

ReplyThe No S System sounds remarkably like the plan I'm already on at LA Weight Loss.
ReplySounds like a good common-sense based diet to me. Most people snack too often on unhealthy foods, eat huge portions (super sizes/king sizes/big grabs, etc), and eat too much sugar. So it makes perfect sense to cut those things out, but to allow them occasionally so you don't go crazy. The No-S diet sounds like it's one of the ones out there that isn't a bunch of BS
ReplyI've been doing the NoS diet now since June last year. I can honestly say that although it's not quick, it does work very well cos I've managed to lose a little over 20lbs since then. AND I like the fact that this is so sustainable and I can really see myself sticking to this for the rest of my life, so no chance that I'll regain it all again then!
It really does make sense.

I discovered No S online in mid-December 2005 and followed it right away. It seemed very easy. It is incredible how I've lost the want for the sugar, even on the exception days. Weekends come and go and I'd rather go buy a new outfit in a smaller size than eat some dessert that is poison to my system! Lost 9 lbs in about two months. It's not a diet anymore, it's a life change that I can see myself staying with. I have more energy to exercise and am enjoying feeling great and looking great.
ReplyIt's not at all like LA Weight Loss. It is easy and sustainable. There are no confusing schedules and he never asks for any money. I tried LA Weight loss and couldn't make it far. Too many rules and special things you have to buy. F that. I want to eat like a regular perszon. This way, I can and do.
ReplyYeah Reinhard is on a definite win with this one. Simple and common-sense. It shows how sad the world has become when someone has to actually remind you of simple and common-sense. Well done.
ReplyThe book was recently released and I found it to be an easy and interesting read. You can find all the information, for free, online.
It's an amazingly simple concept that works. You don't feel deprived or like some outcast of society in which you may not eat carbs/fats...fill in the blank. You can follow the three rules anywhere and at anytime - including vacations.
Kudos to Reinhard and the No S Diet!

ReplyAll I ready want to know do this diet work?
ReplyMy mom started me on this diet and i already lost 4 pounds and i only started 2 weeks ago. I love it, it is soooo easy.
ReplyI would really like to know what most people eat on the noSdiet for their meals.
ReplyThey eat anything they want to except things that are sugar-based. You can have some ketchup or peanut butter but you avoid actual "sweets" and second helpings except on "S" days.
You should check out the bulletin board.
ReplyCan you have drinks with Splenda such as Crystal Light and what about fast food as long as it fits onto a plate?
