Home Remedy for Treating Anorexia
The internet is such a wonderful source of health information. "Sachin" sent me a link to his "Home Remedies" site - suggesting it as a valuable resource. Upon perusal of the site I found a page on the treatment of Anorexia:
Sour grapes are another effective remedy for anorexia. The juice of these grapes should be used in kneading the flour before preparing chapatis. Chapatis made in this manner should be eaten continuously for two to three weeks. This remedy will tone up the stomach and improve the appetite.

Mmmm, grape-flavored chapatis
People suffer from anorexia when they habitually take a faulty diet and hardly do any physical work.Anorexia and other eating disorders are serious stuff - but a little humor is welcome now and then. Of course, this web site is actually pretending to be serious. Eating Disorders are actually treated with nutrition education, psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, family counseling, and sometimes medication. It is a long process.
Please don't take "Sachin's" advice:
Warm-water enema
During the first three to five days of the juice fast, the bowels should be cleansed with a warm-water enema each day. The poisonous matter will thus be eliminated by this self cleansing process. The internet is such a fascinating place... always look for the disclaimer. And while you're at it read the Diet-Blog disclaimer.

You would have difficulty getting most Anorexics to sit still for a meal of sour grapes let alone an enema. Anoerxia Nervosa is a psychiatric condition requiring professional treatment.

ReplyThey might be talking about plain ol' anorexia, which is a loss of appetite, as opposed to what Randy mentioned above, anorexia nervosa.
ReplyKristin, that is what I thought too.
Reply"Anorexia" is a medical term meaning "no appetite" and yeah, it can be involuntary as a side effect to another illness. It can also be a side effect of certain medications. Anorexia nervosa is the psychological illness in which one refuses to eat, even though they may still have a physical appetite.
Still though...sour grapes don't exactly sound appetizing anyway. I can't imagine someone with no appetite really appreciate eating them.
Replyprofessional treatment isn't that neccessary, I got over it. I had it for a year and a half, I just started to slowly eat more again. You just have to get over the obstacle to know food won't hurt you.
ReplyHi,
I doubt that this website was referring to "anorexia nervosa," the eating disorder. "Anorexia" also simply means loss of appetite, and is often used in the latter sense in medical reports, etc. This website was simply referring to a cure for poor appetite, not an eating disorder.
ReplyAre you sure this isn't "How to become anorexic"? Sounds like a good plan! You're starving to death so pig out on the worst food imaginable and spend the rest of the day cleansing (old sour grape residue?) out of your butt? If only Karen Carpenter would have eaten those sour grapes!!! NIIICE
ReplyOkay, I've been anorexic, and it's not 'taking' a faulty diet, that's crazy talk... It's something you choose over a long period of time. And it's A TON of hard work... working out 3+ hours a day, writing down EVERYTHING you eat and being so entirely preoccupied with your weight, figure, habits etc... And there was no way in hell I would ever eat bad grapes, no less cure me by a lot of them... this is BS.

ReplyI have been anorexic in the past and I can tell this is rubbish- I almost killed myself overexercising and restricting calories.
ReplyThe site may be talking abt loss of appetite and not the eating disorder but bread made of flour and grape juice is absolutely crazy-no evidence to support that one!
Luckily its so ridiculous no one can possibly be mislead.
