Free Diet Pills: The Fine Print You Must Read
There are tens (if not hundreds) of free diet pill offers out there. Fat burners, metabolism boosters, appetite suppressants - pick your poison, and you can probably find a "free" trial out there somewhere. However each of these offers are using a sales principle that warrants closer inspection.

Easy to order...
but see the little link at the bottom?
Some suppliers are worse than others. Rip off report lists many complaints from angry consumers - with Leanlife PM and Utralife PM both coming up again and again. The reports are all the same. The customer orders "free" pills, but before they know it, the credit card charges are coming thick and fast.
Let's dig into the terms and conditions of a random diet pill offer. This one is for a hoodia pill (emphasis added).
After the 14 Day Free Trial you will be renewed automatically for the one bottle for a one months supply at a price of $46.90 per month until you cancel your auto-ship program. You may cancel your auto-ship program at any time. You can cancel the auto-ship program at anytime by sending a certified letter to the address listed above or callHere are the points to watch out for:. Customers must respond before the next monthly bottle is billed. Once a bottle has been billed no refund will be issued. Emails and/or voicemails do not constitute a cancellation.
- You will be billed forever - until you cancel your auto-ship. Yes forever.
- In order to cancel you need to send a certified letter OR call a phone number. Slight problem here - "voicemails do not constitute a cancellation" - so if no-one answers - you can't cancel. That's nasty.
- Once you have been billed - no refund. So all they have to do, is get that bill out, and that's it - you've been stung. If you cannot cancel - you have no ability to stop the charges.
So - it's dead easy to sign up - just a quick form to fill out. However it is VERY difficult to cancel your program. The bottom line? Read the terms and conditions very very carefully, or better still, avoid these deals completely.
Barre that is me on Rip-off Report.com and thanks to you I was able to share your information. I hope it helps and the victims continue filing complaints. The complaints against this company are added daily.
ReplyI too was a victim of Metabofuel 1000. I called continuously explaining to them my situation with the $207.85 being deducted from my back account without my approval. Every phone call I made, I got the same answer, "no one could help me - I could not cancel, blah - blah - blah - blah". I continued to call every hour, leaving messages and finally they agreed to refund me $187.00. I had to pay $20.00 for the "free bottle".
I have a call into Mr. Moberly to attempt to get my full refund. I will keep you updated as to whether or not I receive the full refund.
My advice to everyone is KEEP CALLING - KEEP LEAVING MESSAGES!!!! BE PERSISTANT!!!! If they can complicate our lives a little bit - let's complicate theirs. Try to be firm yet be as calm as possible (you may want to jump through the phone at times) - DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!!!!
ReplyI did receive a call back from Scott Moberly. I too had to leave a message but he called me back within 20 minutes. He seemed helpful. I will keep you posted as to whether or not I am refunded the money.
ReplyMy money was posted to my account on the 12th of May, 2006, yahoo
ReplyRegarding metabofuel,
ReplyI just spoke with scott moberly, he was a very nice guy and i do believe that he is shocked at how all of this is going down. He has closed the company and will be refunding my money. He called me back within 20 minutes of my original call. He is going to contact customer service again and find out why they are dealing with the calls the way that they are. He said he had conf. calls with them everyday for the last 9 days and that this is not how it is to be handled. They will refund your money, and I have returned the product he did confirm that there company was Nexpedite, so we will see!!! I hope everyone ends up the result that you want, hopefully he was being honest with me, although i feel he was!!! Thank you!
Im another onethat got screwed by metabofuel, same thing, got the free bottle and was charged 207.85 within about 2 weeks. Ive called and complained and looked at all the websites and complaints and called the company 4 or 5 times. But, my circumstance is a little different, I was told to look at "the terms and conditions". Well, i did and it says clearly that"they are not allowed to ship to Ca. Ny or Illinois. Well, they shipped to me and i live in Illinois. So, obviously they dont follow their own "terms and conditions". And i think that might be illegal! Anyway, im trying to find an email address for them. Ive talked to my bank and i may be able to reverse the charges, but who knows? linda
ReplyI called (800-752-0196) Metabofuel yesterday and talked to Andy, another English challenged representative. I explained what had happened and I wanted my money returned. He stated my account would be credited in 14 business days. I then called Mr. Moberly on his cell phone. He had been out of the country the last nine days. He has had meetings with these people and the claims are not suppose to be handled the way they are. He assurred me that I would get my money back. Said he would check on it and call me back. Christine called me back at his request and said a credit had been issued to my account May 15. My bank account was credited today. Mr. Moberly was very nice and apologic. He is working with the Utah Division of Consumer protection to see that these claims are taken care of. From talking to him I believe he was unaware of what was going on with this company. Please continue to call the company, email lisa@metabofuel.com, file a complaint with the Utah Division of Consumer Protection.... Be persistant
ReplyOn 5/8/06 the legitimate purchase amount for the shipping cost of $4.87 was displayed on my computer ebank list, then on 5/20/06 (out of the blue) there was a charge for $207.85 charged by metabofuel. Well I went ballistic!! I KNOW that the purchase of the original bottle requested shipping charges ONLY and was not attached to any OTHER offers.
I went to the bank first, to try to prevent their deduction of the charge, to no avail.I called metabofuel and spoke to a person who spoke good English -named Adrian. He gave me his employee #, but would not give his last name. He told me to return the 4 bottles when I received them (because I still had not received ANYTHING to be charging me $207.85). He told me to make certain I return them by "return receipt requested" and they would return the $207.85 MINUS a $60.00 charge for the first bottle that I had received for shipping cost only. When I became confrontational about renegging on the original cost, he stated that he would tell his employers and see if they could 'waive' the $60.00 cost.
But since I received the 4 bottles on the Friday before the three-day holiday, everything has been stalled, until today.
ReplyI got my full refund yesterday, May 30, 2006!
ReplyI ordered the free bottle and paid shipping, but also was smart enough to read the fine print, and canceled with in the time period plus got my free bottle!
ReplyI fell for the free bottle of Metabofuel where you only pay S&H. When I received my credit card bill I saw $207.85. I called the number, which a recording said it was the wrong number and was given another number. I called that number and a person answered who took my phone number and said someone would call me back shortly. I called my credit card company and they gave me a different number. I called that one and guess what-it was the wrong number. So I dialed the number where the operator answered and got someone and told them I only ordered the one bottle which I paid the S&H. I was told they mailed me 4 bottles which I did not receive. I told them I cancelled my subscription. The person said they had no record of it and asked for my cancellation number. I told them I did it by email. Said I had to call. Funny since you cannot get a phone number. I called my credit card company after that and explained to them what was going on and that I was not paying for something I did not receive. I was in France, so they could see the charges on the card from there and knew I was telling the truth. Also the person from Metabofuel told me I had to pay $59.00 for the one bottle I received since I cancelled my subscription. I told the person I work for an attorney and am going to write to the Attorney General's office and am not going to pay for it. I also told my credit card company this and they are going to take care of it and put it in dispute if I am charged the $59.00. This company should be put out of business. I am so glad I found your site, it made me feel better because when I saw my credit card statement, I knew that there must be other people out there that were ripped off. I am not paying and will keep fighting. Everyone who got billed, do not pay, keep fighting it.
ReplyI fell for the free bottle of Metabofuel where you just pay for S&H. I ordered online. I also cancelled my subscription on line. When I returned from France last week, I opened my bill and saw I was billed $207.83 for Metabofuel. After several phone calls, I got someone on the phone from Metabofuel and was told that I never cancelled my subscribtion and is I did I would have to pay $59.00 for the lst bottle I received. I called my credit card company and put in a dispute to the $207.83 b ecause I never received any more Metabofuel, which they knew I was in France because of charges on my card, and also if and when they try to bill me the $59.00, I was told to call the credit card company and they will not pay that either. Thanks to your web site, I do not have to pay. I am going to write to the Attorney General of Utah and make a formal complaint since I am an attorney. Thank you for have such a site and making not feel so foolish.
ReplyThey tried to rip me off. I am glad I found your site. It took me a while to get phone number for Metabofuel but I got through and cancelled subscription and said I am not paying. Was told I would have to pay $59.00 for the first free bottle I received. Called my credit card company, and they will dispute it. They have also had complaints about this so called company. So if you have been billed, do not give up, you can get your monies back.
ReplyI was scammed by Metabafuel. I ordered the free bottle online and just paid for S&H. I was surprised when I received my creidt card statement yesterday and saw a charge for $203.83. It took me a long time to get the right phone number and get a person. They said they sent me 4 bottles. I was in France for 5 weeks and just returned and there was no package (my neighbors collected my mail). I told them I cacelled right after I ordered the free sample and they said they had no record. They also said I would have to pay $59.00 for the free bottle I received because I cancelled. Well, thanks to your web site, I am writing letters to the proper authorities.
ReplyHi Everyone,
I am a little frustrated. Do anyone know what is the best approach here? I am going to do one of the following. Either cancel my debit card and replace it as lost or just close my account and open a new account. With either one, would they be able to continue charge me? I just don't want anymore charges.

ReplyFollow the advice from Barre and get it done.
ReplyContact the Utah Division of Consumer Protection at www.dcp.utah.gov. They are currently working with this company to resolve disputes with consumers. I did get a refund.
ReplyFirst, contacting the company directly is the quickest way to get your refund. You do not have to contact Scott Moberly or the Department of Consumer Protection to receive a refund, that just wastes more time and makes it take longer for you to get your refund. If you call the company, they will work with you to get you a refund. Also, the company will require that you send the bottles back before they will give you a refund.
Second, shame on Mr. Barre for posting personal information. That is an invasion of privacy. It is one thing to post the contact information for the company. That is public information. Posting a man's personal cell phone information and other information is invasive and unnecessary. How would you like it if your personal cell phone number was posted and people started calling you on your personal time? Shame on you Barre and anyone else who posted that information or called Mr. Moberly on his personal phone, shame, shame, shame! I would like to see someone post your information Barre and see how you like it. SHAME!
ReplyMETABLFUEL 1000! Never order from these people. You order from them under one agreement, then they charge you for something you did not agree to. I agreed to their one time offer, pay shipping which is $4.87. Next thing you know I notice a charge of $106.82. I ordered of 3/2/06 and received their product two later and then on 3/29/06 I was charged again. For what!! There was no auto-ship or cancel in x amount of days term. I called everyday for a week and left numerous messages and only got a recording. I went back to the website and of course everything is changed. I am going through my bank trying to get my money back, along with filing a complaint with the state of utah. I will be heard and if it takes to the day I die, I will make this company pay for their deception. What I don't understand is, how can this company get away with this? I don't understand how banks can honor them and allow unauthorized withdrawals.
ReplyHeres to being heard in Jackson, SC
Rebecca, we did what we had to do to get the results from this company, and if Mr. Moberly is the owner of this company, then he should have to deal with the consumers, especially when the 1 800 number they give is a person who can barely speak english and will eventually make you very mad because all she does is talk in circles and you the consumer get no results. We did not do this to ourselves, this was a horrible scam that honest consumers do not espect. Barre helped alot of us to get our money back and to that I THANK HIM.
