Coca Cola Blak: Coke + Coffee
Coca Cola are set to launch a new blend - a mix of "mid-calorie" Coke plus coffee called Coca-Cola Blāk:
It is a blend of unique Coke refreshment with the true essence of coffee and has a rich smooth texture and has a coffee-like froth when poured. We believe we have created a new category of soft drink – an adult product in a carbonated beverage – and a whole new drinking experience.

The drink will appear in France in January 2006, followed by several countries (including the US). Pepsi attempted a similar drink (Pepsi Kona) about 10 years ago (it was a failure). Coca cola Blak is apparently similar to C2 (half the sugar, calories, and carbs of regular Coke).
Call me a purist but if you want to drink coke - then get a can of straight coke. If you want coffee - go and get yourself a double shot espresso.

They launched a Pepsi/Redbull thing here... called Pepsi X2. Not sure if it is available in the states, but it has twice the caffeine of Pepsi plus taurine like Red Bull. I haven't tried it but it sounds disgusting.
ReplyI bet this will be a huge success.
If I were still jacking myself up on caffeine and sugar I would be among the first to try it.
The negatives are of course adrenal stress from the caffeine, mineral loss and sluggish metabolism from the acidity, insulin elevation and diabetes from the sugar, and cancer from the artificial sweetener and other chemcals.
Other than that it sound great.

Oooooooooooooo Yuk! Doesn't sound appealing at all, to me. Of course, I'm one of those people who likes my coffee hot, black and strong. Not sweet, and not messed with. DON'T MESS WITH MY COFFEE!!!!! (Haven't had mine yet this am, can you tell?)
ReplyRight Vern, coke is coke, and coffee is coffee - don't spoil (read delute them, unless it's below minus 10°C outside. No sugar, no sweetener, no milk or cream - just plenty of brandy or rum!
ReplyUgh, gross! Coke and coffee together? Nasty. I know people who spike their Coke with coffee to get an extra caffeine jolt, but not because it tastes good. I don't think Coke is going to have much success with this unless it tastes really awesome.
ReplyWelllll now, what an interesting thought. It could really be wonderful. I always have to have something cold in the morning to quinch my thrist after I have had that first cup of coffee in the morning...which doesn't quinch but wakes me up enough to stumble into the kitchen to find the fridge and the cold coke. Could prove to be a one stop kind of shopping thing. I would try it for sure. I guess my concern is how much do we need these days to "jack ourselves up" for the day? It seems more and more for me...and it is kind of scary.
ReplyIf you mix budlight with keystone light it sucks
ReplyActually Jan, here in the US, Coke launched their Vault product (both Diet and Sugar versions) which they characterize as "the energy drink that drinks like a soda". It tastes like a spoiled batch of Mountain Dew
ReplyAA thanks for the info. All these energy things taste gross then, huh? All I know is besides tons of caffeine, they have taurine. I have no idea what taurine does to people, but I know cats need it. It is the reason you can't let the cats eat dog food, cause dog food has no taurine.
ReplyAll I know is I can't drink coffee, it upsets my stomach, and I would die without Diet Coke. I don't see how that mixture is going work. What there's not enough caffeine in Coke!!!!

ReplyDoes anyone know if this is going to come out in Canada?
I'm looking forward to trying this drink, I hope it's good.
ReplyI guess I will contribute, since I tried it just a few days ago! I was visiting Paris and bought a can, wondering what it was - as I had no idea. My first thoughts were, "hmm, tastes like it's coke with coffee in it". I drank the can, but it really wasn't that good, I won't buy it again. I am a big diet coke and espresso drinker (seperately), and didn't really like the coffee/coke mixture. But if it sounds appealing to you, give it a shot, you may like it.
ReplyI would just like to point out that the coke blak sold in France and the coke blak sold in america are completely different
ReplyThe French one is fizzy coffee while the american one is just coke with extra caffine
I am still trying to find out IF Coke is going to offer the Coke BLAK in DIET. Anyone know?
ReplyPerhaps I will have to call The Coca Cola Co.
Coke Blak is freaking awesome! I love coffee and don't think this is any replacement for coffee, what it IS, is a low cal delicious soft drink that has a coffee flavor.
Coffee is coffee and ice cream is ice cream. now try to tell me that coffee flavored ice cream isn't great, cause it is. silly people.
ReplyA friend visited France recently and told me about Blak. I actually wasn't surprised that Coke has attempted to market this beverage because I once poured Coke in a glass of ice that previously contained black coffee (on the rocks). I found the slight coffee taste in the Coke to be quite good, but I never followed up on trying the concoction again.
Anyhow, I just had my first Coca-Cola Blak (from Target) and loved it. BTW, I'm a big-time coffee drinker (Italian roast, black) and not much of a soda drinker. I'll definitely buy this in the future, but I do wish that it didn't contain aspartame since I try to avoid that stuff. Oh well. It's not like I'm gonna chug Blak regularly, and it won't replace my beloved coffee.
ReplyI have something new made from Coca Cola! It's called Coca Coloa Mineral water, sweetened with stevia and add a pinch of organic lemon juice. Perhaps you should drink that then to drink this. Besides, it only takes a few minutes to make stevia-sweetened lemon water, and tastes just as great as coke, yet you didn't drink that black drink that is not designed for your body.
ReplyJust tried it and thought it was "interesting." Not really my thing. But then again, I LOVE black coffee but don't care much for iced coffee.
Replytried Blak today - not a good experience --- coffee/coke - aroma was pleasing but has a bad after taste ------- I will remain a loyal TAB fan
ReplyTried it. liked it. Wouldn't touch it in the winter, but count me in for a summer waker-upper.
ReplyJust bought a four-pack. Anyone want the other three? Not a winner.
ReplyI passed it up one time when i noticed it at the supermarket. Then, on my next visit, I couldn't resist! I actually like it quite a bit! I doubt that it will last too long in the market, though. Things like this never do. I remember a product called Cappio back in the early 90's. (not from Coke, tho) Now it's gone. *sigh*
ReplyIt's just so darn expensive! You only get a small bottle. Is it supposed to be ultra-caffeinated? I didn't notice.
I mixed it with a little cream and it is really really good!
ReplyCoca-cola blak sucks!...its gross
ReplyI thought it was all right. I tried it today. Problem with me is caffeine doesn't have too much effect on me. I felt it for like...10 minutes. Now I'm back to my usual semi-comatose state lol. It was decent though, but I am not going to pay almost 2 bucks for a little bitty bottle of it every time I want a quick buzz.
ReplySomebody mentioned the new Vault energy drink--I think it's AWESOME. It kind of tastes like a mix between Mountain Dew and Sprite, only better. It's not as fizzy as Sprite, but more so than Moutain Dew. It's great to drink when you're thirsty...you don't have that huge burping effect with other pops.
ReplyApparently you folks haven't ever tried a bibicafe. Coca-cola's blak is a cheap version of one, seeing as most bibis go for 2 bucks a pop in the states.
I think it's excellent. But definitely not something I'd have en masse. It actually leaves me feeling more wired than if I chugged a can of that Rockstar Cola energy drink. Brruuuuah.
ReplyJust like a poster above, I passed Blak up in the supermarket a few times then decided to try it while it was on sale for $4/pack of four. It's actually not bad - reminds me of an espresso spritzer I had at a boardwalk years ago. It cuts back on the carbs and calories by using aspertame instead of sugar, but I would have prefered even lower numbers and the use of Splenda. Blak gives me a mild cafeine boost similar to a single espresso shot sipped over 15 minutes.
I'll likely buy it again, as long as it's available that is. Starbucks won't take it lying down if Blak is successful, and all they'll have to do is add carbonation tanks to their stores, or offer their Doubleshot in more variations.
Replyyea um i think coke a cola blak is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disgusting. it tastes like coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't ever try this soda in your life
Replycoke a cola blak wut a bad expierence! take this advice and don't try it. coffee and coke is a horrible mix and i think i could do something better. myabe like coke and rasberry, or coke and straberry!!
ReplyI love all coke products (except for their diet versions), this is not exception.
My favorite thing about Coke is their great packaging and Coke blak has a beautiful and suiting look.
Getting to the taste. When I first tasted it the sweet cola coffee taste flushed down my mouth, very interesting. Then the aftertaste.... Following the unique splash of taste was a mouth saturated with crushed coffee beans, very nasty. Interestingly enough the more I sipped it, the better it tasted. Im hooked now and used to the aftertaste! My only complaint is the bottles are to tiny and it is too expensive!
Other than that, congrats Coke for another fine addition to ur family.
(warning, this product is addictive)
Replyyeah coffee in general give a bad after taste and NAUGHTY breath.
Replywhen I first saw it on my college campus I was excited beceau sof the low calorie/sugar count and it was a decent serving size instead of the double size that has now become mainstream!
I like to drink it but I dont believe I will be buying it agian. I has a wonderful smooth drinking texture however!
Well, I tried Blak for the first time today. I took one sip and wretched.
I put it in the fridge to chill it, thinking that might be better. Again, one sip and more wretching.
My brother loves it, he was the one that gave me a bottle from a cabinet full.
It might be the fact that I don't drink coffee, I dunno, but I'm not feelin' the coke-fee.
ReplyI had some, it was ok. Nothing really to phone home about. Taste was neither disgusting nor refreshing. However, it did have a decent caffeine kick to it.
The market where I shop sells the bottles at $1.50 each (6$ for the 4 pack) so I don't think I could ever make a habit of the stuff even if I did like it.
ReplyCoke Blak - upon first taste it wasn't that good. Don't give up on it. Drink it cold, especially good about 20 min after having a good coffee. Compared to all the other 'energy drinks' this is much better. All the other drinks taste like suped up Mountain Dew. They all look yellowish green, except for the Tab one, but that was still like a suped up Mountain Dew taste. Give Coke Blak a chance!
ReplyBlak is a low-rent version of bibicafe. I loved Bibicafe and wish I knew where to get them in LA.
ReplyI have yet to see a Blak can.
ReplyBlak coke cola is ok but wouldn,t pay the 1,50 any more for it its not that great .99cents on but not 1.50
ReplyYes Blak is EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE!! But the cost keeps me from being addicted. When I wrote an email to complain they dismissed me. But I know if they get enough complaints the price will drop.
