The Quest for Skinny Jeans

Not much room
to move
The super tight fitting jeans are in hot demand in the UK - after being worn by models such as Kate Moss.
Stockists are reporting a sharp increase in demand for the smallest sizes and, according to designers, a standard small clothes size is no longer eight but six. This isn't so much about overweight people trying to lose some fat - it's about already slim women trying to get even skinnier. Fashion is a peculiar thing - and quite frankly those "skinny-fit" jeans look very uncomfortable. The style prompted concerns last night that fashion was becoming increasingly divorced from ordinary women, who might be driven to disregard their health as a result.
I'll leave the final comment to nutritionist Luci Daniels:
...being that thin can affect your health, fertility and skin. It's not natural and it takes a lot of work. Is it worth it to fit into a pair of jeans?"

I can't wear them, my legs are pretty short and jeans like that would make my new nickname 'Stocky'.
ReplyAll the same, I think skinny jeans look good on people that can get away with them, same with the legging craze.
I love Skinny Jeans, and Im overweight.
I'm 16, 5'8 / 5'9 and about 240 pounds.
If you can find a good pair of skinny's then wear them don't get all angsty about it and say eww to them when rly you've never tried them if you can find the right tops etc to go with it, Do it.
Don't compare yourself to size 2's and 4's.
Everyone is different, learn to love your body, tell the mirror you have the best body. Then when you try and compare it to someone else's all you can think is
My bodies the best. It's your life not the fashion worlds. Take control.
If the twig can pull it off so can the whole branch 'lol
ReplyWhere do you get your skinny jeans from?
Replywow...that was really good advice..
thanks..
I just wish I'd feel that way after having 2 babies!!
ReplyMm, you guys ae soooo lucky, i am about 5"7 and i'm 75kgs, i don't lookgood in ANY type of jeans at all, i have a slow metabolism, i'm vegan, lactose itollarent and hardly eat junkfood, so try carrying the "fat" gene burden!
ReplyTry being 75kgs & being 5"7 at 14!!!
ReplyHello ladies:
I have read all the comments here and now I would like to share a little wisdom with you all - at my age (51) I've seen all kinds of styles come and go. Most of them I have tried, some good, some not. But I can honestly say that anyone hoping to lose weight to get into "skinny jeans" - is not a good idea. That will simply result in yo-yo dieting and is quite harmful to you spiritually and mentally. Besides, there is nothing wrong with the style and there are so many stores that carry this jean for people of all shapes and sizes. If you feel you are a little over weight (which honestly, 95% of you are NOT, you're fine and beautiful girls)- then by all means buy a pair - now I don't recommend buying a size smaller simply because a lot of skinny jeans are mostly made with spandex, which hugs the body. But I do understand this reasoning to buy smaller. You see, most very thin girls don't really have a shape to which the spandex can cling, (like a curvy waist or nice butt) so after much walking, sitting, etc., it tends to bag in the butt, hang off the waist, sag at the knees, etc. Remember, spandex was meant to "give shape and help firm" bodies. So if you have a very small frame spandex really does nothing for you, thus resulting in an unflattering look. Trust me I was one of those girls once, 5ft. 7in. 115lbs. Straight up and down. So instead of buying a brand that is mostly spandex, buy a pair of skinny jeans that are mostly cotton which will retain the shape of the jean and will look great on a thinner person (GAP, Old Navy, H&M stores would be a perfect place for the smaller ladies). BUT: if you happen to wear a size 11/12/-13/14 or higher then go a size up and when you wash them lay them flat to dry. Get a nice, blousy top to match (not tight, remember you want to show off the whole look), if you worry about your waist hanging out, get a top that comes down to your hips, put on a nice pair of flats or heels and then look in the mirror! You will look fabulous!! NEVER, EVER let a style rule your life. That's YOUR job (and well, occassionally you mom's too, but nevermind). If you have big calfs and don't feel the "skinny leg" jean are flatering, then go for a simple straight leg "skinny" style which can be found at any Old Navy, (Diva style for instance), or Levi's which is now selling a very sexy straight leg jean too. The legs are not as tapered as the skinny jeans. And don't worry, spandex in jeans look great on a bigger size, that was what it was made for to begin with, to add shape. So go for it!!! And don't be afraid to march yourself into a tall girl store. Trust me they have styles, sizes, shapes, etc that fit all body types. Most stores start at size 6. Simply try on what you like and them get them hemmed! Now as of you ladies holding onto the past, let it go and stop limiting your mind. When you hold onto the past you can't grow as you obsess with a long forgotten time. So what, you were once a size 3 when you were 14, so is half the population on earth!! Kiss them goodby and try something new. Don't let life pass you by for a pair of pants!! If your now a size 8, 10, 12, 14 SO WHAT!!! If you want to lose a few pounds when you pack the kids off to school, PUT AWAY 1 HOUR A DAY FOR YOURSELF. In that hour, walk a mile and ride a bike. After walking or riding, drink water which will get you used to drinking water daily and this will knock out the soda drinking for a couple of hours. Then find a couple of fruits you really like and keep them in the house. Buy frozen treats, like Ice pops instead of ice cream, drink lemonade, and have 3-4 salads a week. then weigh yourself in a month and you will be surprised!! (But don't weigh yourself every week, very depressing).
Well, this old girl is done, and ladies be good to yourselves, stop looking at the TV and magazines models for inspiration - they wish they could eat a whole meal themselves!! Simply trust in yourself and if need be get a buddy. Me, at 51 I weigh in at 155lbs, look 15 years younger because 3 years ago I got serious with my self lost 35lbs and now at a healty size 12, I'm happy and this ole girl wears what I want (well except mini skirts, never really liked anything that shows the hiney). So, if I can do it so can you!!! Hang in there ladies and stop being so tough on yourselves!!! You're fine.

Replyy do people only care bout fat people what about the skinny people who are trying so hard so they can gain wait to fit into there jeans liek the skinny jeans dhat every one is wearing now a days people are only making jeans and clothes for fat people it is harder to find clothes for very skinny people cuz they are makin all the styleish clothes for plus size people and i feel that is not fair!!
excepcially for teens who are UNDER weiqht and are trynah
Replyfit in to society and lOOk liek all there cool friends who are normal weiht and can buy clOthes that are in style
Hey, I feel your pain and I am totally NOT being sarcastic. As a girl who has had her fair share of body issues in her life it is totally not fair for any body-type to get discrimination.
However, i wouldn't go looking for sympathy from the bigger girls, they've got their own problems.
ReplyI love skinny jeans. I have a small bottom for my size and I like how they falter my bottom and make my thighs look thinner. I'm debating about buying myself a few size 4's since my 6's are starting to get a little loose. I'm working out and getting firmer thighs and smaller bottom. You don't need to be a size 0 to love skinny jeans. By the way, I'm 5'2" and around 140 pounds, overweight by BMI.
Replywow! thats amazing..are you seriously 140 pounds and 5'2 and wear size 4/6??
ReplyOMG you must have a small frame cause I'm 150 and 5'2 but I wear size 11/13..after having kids..that is...
Hi I am 41 and 5'5 and my weight is between 109 and 111. I feel like at my age I should not be worrying about my weight as much as I do. Although I workout 6 times a week and walk atleast 3 miles a day. I am a size 0 but I have been much thinner in the past I have been 100 or 102 pounds. I feel so self centered feeling this way. On one hand I would love to be 102 pounds but on the other hand I know I will look sick. Does this make sense??
Replyomfg thats so stupid i always wear skinny jeans but its not to make me look thinner im only 13yrs old i dont care about looking skinny im skinny but idc about looking it..that was like the gayest thing ever anybody who believes that is batshitcrazy
ReplyPlease stop using "gay" as an insult. It is not cute, it is just ignorant.
ReplySkinny jeans oddly enough are very comfortable, but you should always get a size larger so you can fit your ankles in cuz im a size 11 in jeans and i couldn't fit my feet through ( I have large feet) so i tried the 13 and it fit. You really don't need to be skinny to pull off skinny jeans i've seen people who are not skinny at all and they can pull them off and I myself have voluminous thighs and butt. But if your older than 40 than skinny jeans may not be the best for us teenager will make fun of older people in clothes that we wear ( my bio teacher has the same shirt as me and it creeps me out cuz she's like 28) So yeah, sorry if i like wasted 3 minutes of your life ranting on and on bout useless things.
ReplyTry being a teenager and looking at all the 'popular' girls and your best friends wearing skinny jeans while you're not. It. Sucks.
As thursday said, bloody metabolism.
Replypeople are always blaming their metabolisms, but only a small proportion of people who are overweight are so due to metabolic stuff, it's generally behavioural. just eat healthily and exercise.
Replyhey if your kids like skinny jeans go to gap kids or wet seal if they're teens cause me demi lovato from camp rock i wear them on the show so good luck and tell your children i said hi! -Demi
ReplyI am not skinny or even slim, being 5'6" and 190 pounds at age 17, but I just bought myself a pair of great Old Navy dark wash skinny jeans and at first I wasn't sure about wearing them, having heard people saying how overweight people shouldn't, but I decided to wear them anyways! I think anyone can pull off skinny jeans as long as you have the right attitude.
It's really about YOU and how YOU feel. You're responsible for your own emotions, so don't let anyone else put thoughts straight into your head!! Beauty comes from the inside, as cliche as that sounds. ;)
XO bella
ReplyIm only 11 and im 205 thats alot for my weight but im tall so that counts life is to short to be worry about ur weight i spend alot of times crying cause i dont look like skinny girls its hard to find clouths for me but then i got my first skinny jeans and i was much happier remmber that it does not matter how much u weight its about if u love urself skinny jeans are hard to find so try jcpenny it helped me alot i hate when skinny girls say their fat cause they dont know what fat means but i have learned in my sort life that it doesnt matter what u were it matters how u like it always love ur body love urself and ur curves and ur big juck in r truck its there so what u gonna do.its better to live in happiness then sadnees.
Replyi agree with Nina im 12 yrs old and im 150 and ima size 11 and its hard to find clothing and our bodies are different then the other girls out there who are madd skinny and say that theyre fat. it annoys me soo mcuh cuz they dont know what fat is.. i see girls in my school who are a size 00 and they only eat chips or an ice cream for lunch.
