Diet Sprays: What's the Deal?
Quick-fix weight loss solutions will always have a ready market. Recently I've noticed a trend towards "spray-on" solutions. The post about Australian-made appetite suppressant SliMist has garnered some interesting responses - although it's difficult to distinguish the sales reps from general consumers.

Another spray to gain media attention is the so-called Flavor Spray Diet. Attaching the word "diet" to the product range is really nothing but marketing. The sprays are zero calorie flavor enhancers comprised of water, artificial flavorings, and salt. The diverse range of flavors cover everything from Parmesan Cheese to Cookies and Cream. An interesting idea - but no weight loss solution.
Then there is CLAmor - a spray that claims it can "decrease body fat and increase muscle tone". Clamor is based around Conjugated Linoleic Acid - a fatty acid. However, according to diet supplement researcher Will Brink, study results are "mixed" when it comes to the efficacy of CLA as a fat loss supplement:
However, we now have a handful of studies using 3-4 grams that have come to conflicting conclusions, so you will have to make up your own mind on the importance of that finding. Lesser amounts (such as a few hundred milligrams) of CLA often found in weight loss supplements are nothing but label decoration.
I have heard of the flavor sprays before. I think they can be useful if you use them properly. Like spraying brussels sprouts with some butter tasting stuff instead of eating real butter on them. But on its own, I don't think it would make you lose weight.
ReplyOf course it doesn’t work, but people will buy anything with the word “diet” or “weight loss” on the label.
Excuse me while I spray my chocolate cake and ice cream with CLA – that makes it a diet food.

Replyflavor spray diet?? more like flavor spray flop!!
Replyi called this company to get some info, but all i ever get is a machine. i tried to buy this, but it's not in any retail stores. i heard they can't find anyone to carry it. I wonder why? don't waste your time.
I cannot understand how you can call the product a flop without trying it. If you know anything about retail marketing it takes time to break into a market and the product has only been introduced since july 2005. It will eventually spread throughout the retail markets just give them time. Spectra was right, on it's own it it will not make you lose weight. However if the sprays are used in conjunction with other healthy foods and you coat the foods with the spray instead of calorific sauces, oils and other flavorings you will reduce your calorie, fat and cholesterol intake and that can only be a good thing surely.
ReplyI have tried these sprays... Amazing!! Astonishing!! Ok, enough, but they taste great, and brought a little bit of fun back into my weight watchers program. Thanks flavor spray.. Also, I heard they are coming to Le Gourmet Chef in January too!
