Fashion Freakism

How shocking - a catwalk model that
weighs more than 110 pounds.
The human-specimen display on the runway, meanwhile, was unnerving. The audience was invited to stare. (And mother always said that was impolite.) Were people applauding because the culture believes it takes an exceptional amount of nerve for a fat person to model an evening gown and not collapse in tearful embarrassment over the fact of her fleshy arms? (Cheer for the fat girl!) Whose sensitivities are really being appeased?

Extremes...
The audience's reaction to the unusual models sounds much the same as children at a circus. I wonder how the models felt?
The audience laughed. One woman in the audience jerked fitfully back and forth, she was so overwhelmed with amusement. Some people pointed and howled in hysterics. Others applauded appreciatively, offering the models encouragement for stepping into the spotlight -- a daunting task even for those who do it five or six times a day.

I suspect the vast majority of men would prefer to be seen in the streets with the woman in white than with the hefty lady. The Renaissance ended four hundred years ago folks, wake up. Maybe if we live through a famine, we will really believe that big is beautiful. In the meantime, people keep trying to convince themselves.
Replyum, the woman in black is not attractive. some people mentioned her makeup being freakish. it's not a mistake. it's clear that she was put on the runway as a parody, something to make fun of. and come on, people, she's not "healthy" or even "overweight"...she's borderline obese at the very least.
just as much as it isn't healthy to be 6 feet tall and 100 lbs, it's just as unhealthy (if not more so) to be 5'5" and 200 lbs.
