Proprietary Blends: Secrets and Lies
Whenever I look at the nutritional labels on diet supplements - there is often an anomalous ingredient called a "proprietary blend". The blend lists it's ingredients but without the amounts. Independent researcher Will Brink has written some interesting notes on this:
A supplement that lists a “proprietary blend” on the bottle can be there for one of two reasons:(a) to prevent the competition from knowing exactly what ratios and amounts of each ingredient present in the formula to prevent the competition from copying their formula exactly (commonly referred to as a ‘knock off’) or
(b) to hide the fact the formula contains very little of the active ingredients listed on the bottle in an attempt to fool consumers.
Sadly, the latter use is far more common then the former. They see a long list of seemingly impressive ingredients listed in the “proprietary blend” none of which are there is amounts that will have any effects. This is commonly referred to as “label decoration” by industry insiders. The former use of the term is a legitimate way for a company of a quality formula from having the competition copy or “knock off” their formula and the latter use of the term is to scam people.

Nutritional Label of Xenadrine EFX
A mix of vitamins, minerals, and a mystical blend
...most people have neither the time or inclination to research all that info just to decide if they want to use a product and thus the many “proprietary blends” on the market that are no more then a long list of under-dosed ingredients.Xenadrine EFX is a good example. The nutritional label lists something called "Proprietary Thermodyne Complex". Which in turn contains three more proprietary blends:
Ingredients for Proprietary Thermodyne™ Complex: Tyroplex™ (proprietary blend of l-tyrosine and acetyl-l-tyrosine), Green Tea Extract (standardized for epigallocatechin gallate, caffeine and polyphenols), Seropo™ (proprietary cocoa extract standardized for PEA[phenylethylamine], tyramine and theobromine), Yerba Mate (standardized for caffeine and methylxanthines), dl-Methionine, Ginger Root (standardized for gingerols), Isotherm™ (proprietary blend of 3,3',4',5-7 pentahydroxyflavone and 3,3',4',7-tetrahydroxyflavone), DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol), Grape Seed Extract (standardized for catechins).
i'm almost done my first bottle of regular SS. starting the Xtra strength when i'm done (about 3 days left). Anyone have better luck with the xtra strength formula? I've only lost about 3 lbs with this one bottle of regular SS. I had thought i'd lose at least 10 lbs with the first bottle of SS!
ReplyIt does work differently for everyone. at my office there are several taking Soloslim. The health food store where we got them has them behind the counter because people were stealing it off the shelves. They have been selling 4 cases a day, said it was the best suplement they have that works. They don't recommend the xtra strength because for most people the regular works great. I have lost 13 lbs in 6 weeks. it didn't come off until the 2nd week then the scale really moved. Now it's slowed down but I still feel like it's moving just slowly. the others in my office have lost on average 7- 15 lbs in one months time. I do have the dry mouth side effect and almost like my mouth is acidy and my gums peal at times. I do push the water, I can't immagine it if I didn't. I also have been doing the Curves exersise program 3-4 times a week and eating healthy. I do have a regular doctors appointment next week and will be running Soloslim by him. I need to make sure that the weightloss in the short term is not going to have any long term issues. (I can't imagine he won't like the results though. I needed to do something)Besides I love the stuff and my family is starting to use it so I need to know for them and me.
Natasha, I would be curious if the side effect on the extra strength are more intense or any different. ( I would love to hear not at all but am happy to pay the price)
ReplyHas anyone talked to a doctor about this product? If so, what did they say? I am nervous about the long term ramifications of this product. Especially because everyone is experiencing such a vast reaction to the product in regards to weight loss and side effects. It reminds me of ephedra when it first came out, meaning it worked very well but had major side effects and even caused death.
Replythank you! i actually started the Xstrength today and haven't felt any different. mind you it's only been half a day tho. But i do notice i'm not AS hungry as i would be this time (30 min. before lunch) if I was on the regular SS. a small muffin and fruit carries me thru the morning til lunch.
the first week on the SS with me I noticed that i was never hungry. but then after the first week i started to gain a little of my appetite back.
i know i have to get back into exercising. i used to go to the gym 4 times a week, and run on the weekends. the past 3 weeks i've only gone on 3 runs and one session of pilates! yikes!
we shall see how i sleep tonite on the Xstrength
ReplyI've been taking the regular Soloslim for three weeks now and have only lost 3 pounds. I have two friends who took the extra strength and lost over 20 lbs each. Has anyone noticed a difference between the regular and extra strength? Just wondering if it's worth buying another month's worth.
ReplyHi Everyone,
ReplyI have i have been taking exra strength Solo Slim for exactly one month today and have had great results! I have tried everything there is out there to try and have never had results like this. In just One month I have lost a little over 15lbs and have never felt better. Everyone has noticed a big change in my apperance. I have always had a problem with my weight since i was young. I am now 25 and have tipped the scale at around 215 lbs. When i realized what i actually weighed i knew that i needed to do something. So a friend of my sister has been taking them and she was having great results so i decided to give Solo Slim a try. Im so glad that I did!! The frist few days i felt great! I really didnt feel any different besides not being hungry or having cravings. After about a week i did start to experience extreme Dry mouth but i just increased my water intake and i try to chew gum or hard candy to keep my mouth moist. I have had a few sores in my mouth but they are going away. My energy is great but i dont feel like i am out of control energetic like i have experenced with other diet pills. I have had some trouble with sleep but i never sleep great anyway! I have read that constipation has been a problem with other people but for me its the complete oppostie, I cant stay out of the bathroom. I have always had a little problem with IBS but not like this.MY husband jokes if he cant find me Im probably in the bathroom!!! I have missed my pills by accident for two days straight and still lost LBS that week and still wasnt hungry or have cravings! I defientaly think Solo Slim really works and has given me great results. I will continue to take the pills. I would like to loose around 60lbs all together. Although i might cut back on them like everyother day ( this will also make them last longer, they are expensive). I will keep everyone posted with my continued success!
P.S.
You need to give these pills a try for at least a few weeks and then decide if there right for you!
Good Luck Everyone,
Ashley
i have also had sores in my mouth! i get canker sores and i have one on the back of my cheek (but i think i bit it when i was eating). and with the canker sores i keep biting at them, making them worse of course, and spread. not sure if its related to the pills or not
ReplyI do think that they are related to the pills but i just try to keep something in my mouth at all times and this seems to help! I also keep biting at them but it has been better the longer i have been on them! Are you seeing results from the pills?
ReplyAshley
not really! My friend (who has less weight to lose than me) lost 8 pounds in the first 2 weeks.....but I have only lost a total of 3 pounds.....and that's in 30 days.
I just started the xstrength formula (on day 2) so i hope to see better results on these! i also haven't been going to the gym like i normally do for the past 3 weeks, and will start back on Monday at least 3 days a week.
Iknow i have to get in more water. not sure why it's so hard for me, as my mouth is really dry and it's warm weather!
ReplyHave you measured yourself? My sister's friend hasn't lost much weight but is losing inches.
Replyactually i've only lost total 5 lbs in 35 days, but amazingly i can fit into capris i wore last summer when i was 10 lbs lighter than i am right now! still a bit tighter than last summer, but i can button them up and wear them!
Replyi also started back to the gym this week. but i really think the xstrength is working MUCH better than the regular strength. i'm supposed to start my period tomorrow (usually i'm up 3-4 lbs within a week before) and i havent' gained anything! I hope to be down even more this time next week when it's over with!
I have been on solo slim for 10 days down 3.8lbs, my sister has been taking it for almost 3 weeks she's down 12lbs. She did consult 2 dr's before starting it and another friend also consulted her dr. All the Dr's said they have heard nothing but good about solo slim. one dr said she'd treated a couple pts for bladder infections but assumed they weren't drinking enough water. After reading through all of your comments today I think this: It does seem to work, you should drink lots of water. I like the idea of gator aid that does replenish electrolytes. As for constipation my husband always says "nothing in nothing out" this pill is to stop cravings not stop your appetite. you still need 3 healthy meals a day and depending on you exercise level 1200-1700 calories a day. My sister & I are weight watcher members and her dr said take the pill and still follow your weight watcher points. Those of you with headaches should probably try to eat more and drink more fluid.
I am curious about taking this with high blood pressure medication(That's what led me to this sight) I think I will email solo slim with my questions.
ReplyMy mom has done some solo slim research and she told me that it dilates blood vessels, lowering blood pressure. This is how many blood pressure medications work. Anyways, something to look into.
ReplyIt also increases cardiac output and venous return. In all one should see circulatory improvement with this. I am a medical practitioner. I have only two concerns for the product 1. what else are you taking, or what other medical problems do you have? 2. idodine levels in the kelp based supplement.
My mother has alot of medical problems autoimmune disease and that has led her to a constellation of diabetic type symptoms and vascular insufficiency as a result of Rx she has to take to control her hyperimmune state. She has been taking this for 3 months and her vascular picture is improved, her chronic renal failure is improved, her anemia of chronic disease has improved, her cholesterol, and lipids secondary to antiphospholipid antibody has improved, in fact ALL her labs were in normal limits for the first time in 10 years. Her blood pressure is stable and her narcolepsy has even improved with the energy promotion. She was reactive hypoglycemic and constantly eating sugar; she stopped and her glucose levels normalized too! The only problem is that she has been so much more alive and active that the added outdoor sunexposure and keeping so busy without her rest tends to cause her autoimmune disease to flare.
Replywrong on the dilation. the pill has synepherine in it..that is why some people have increased blood pressure. synepherine CONSTRICTS blood vessels. Also causes increased body temp and dry mouth. Your urine then gets dark, hense the dehydration and constipation. drink plenty of water or gatorade. synepherine is the same thing that is in sudaphed. you know what people use to make meth. and cold medicine with. thats probably why sleep disturbances and appetite suppression. i dont understand the abnormal menstrual cycles. i have taken soloslim for almost a month and just started with this. i will look up the rest of the ingredients and get back to the site. i am a icu nurse and can usually break things down easily, but i dont know some of this herbal stuff.
ReplyI have been taking regular Solo Slim for 3 weeks now. I have lost about 6 pounds, but feel like I have lost several inches. I love that it supresses my appetite like nothing I have taken before. I feel great getting dressed and my clothes are loose.
The first day I took Solo Slim I felt a little woosey, but other than that I did not experience noticeable side effects the first week.
The second week was the worse. I became dizzy to the point of having to lay down (I was also working outside in extreme heat), I had an anxiety attack (first ever), dry mouth, jitters, headaches, and the worst was the insomnia. I have always been a hard sleeper and was waking up at 3 and 4 am stressing over things I would not usually stress over. I also felt a little "out there" sitting quietly in a zone. That is when I decided to surf the net to see if all of these things were caused by Solo Slim. I found this blog and see that others are having some of the same symptons. I have not had any constipation problems, menstral problems or canker sores as of yet.
The third week the insomnia got better, most nights I slept all night and when I did wake up I was able to go back to sleep. I did not experience the dizziness either. I still get a little jittery and kind of sit quietly with a bit of a loopy feeling.
I noticed yesterday that I did not have the supressed appetite. I wanted to eat a lot. Since I am down to my last week of pills, and need to reorder, this has me wondering if I should order the extra strength this time. However, I do not want to restart with the side effects when they are just starting to pass.
Has anyone switched from regular to extra strength and noticed an increase or return of side effects?
Replyi took the regular strength, and like you, about 3 weeks into it i started to sleep good again after seeing every hour on the clock thru the nite for about 2 weeks. I have since started xtrength (on 7th day now) and the past 2 nites i haven't been able to sleep like i did 5 days into the regular SS. And i also found about 3 weeks into the regular SS my appetite started to come back and i craved sugar.
For the past 7 days on xstrength my appetite has dramatically decreased. i don't snack, just eat my 3 meals a day. and i've been drinking more water (even tho my mouth was very dry i couldn't bring myself to drink lots of water - i drank much more water before i started SS). Even though it has only been 7 days, i feel like the xstrength is working a lot better than the regular strength.

Alisa, I have been asking the same questions on this site and everyone seems to be ignoring them, I actually got quite nervous about losing weight so quickly I stopped taking it- the questions running through my head are - whats going on inside my body that im losing all this weight with a pill AFTER i have been busting my butt in the gym- if you find out anything will you let me know
ReplyMy sister did talk to two different doctors. Her OBGYN and a naturalpathic Dr. The naturalpathic Dr stated that he has done a lot of research on Solo Slim and told her to keep taking it it works. Her OBGYN told her all she's heard is good about it and to still eat her daily calories and drink water with Solo Slim. I also had a friend who asked her nurse practioner (whom I beleive is better than a Dr.) and she also said it seems to work but to drink plenty of water.
I emailed the company with a few of my questions and concerns last Sat. evening and have not received a response yet.
ReplyI emailed the Solo Slim website last week also about any solutions to the dry mouth side effect and as of yet have not recieved a reply either. (probably then they would have to admitt there are side effects?) Tomorrow I will see my Doctor just to follow up. even so, I like it and will put up with the dry mouth. lot's of water, hard candy and some gum. 14 lbs in just over 6 weeks.
ReplyI saw my doctor today... He say's keep doing what I'm doing. Even though there is no caffine or efedra, the herbs in Soloslim do have the properties and react in your body simular to caffine and efedra. He advised limiting caffine (so does Soloslim) and if I have any reactions like heart palpitations or anxiety attacts (i have never)to limit or stop the pills. As for the sores they seem to be a pest, but they do go away, continue the water, and if he finds anything I should be concerned about or long term effects he will let me know.
Replycareful, lookup the ingredients on the web, specificly synephrine
ReplyI can't believe some of you! SoloSlim is the best thing that ever happened to me. It truly is completely natural and is safe for anybody that doesn't have blood pressure problems. My biggest problem in my diet wasn't what I ate, but how much of it I ate. DO you know how many calories I save by only having a 6 inch sandwich at subway instead of a foot long? I was already in pretty good shape before I started taking the pill, but in just 2 weeks, I have lost 6 lbs and it was not water wieght. I have lost fat! Sleeping, dry mouth, chest pressure, constipation...Your fault! If you don't remember to at least eat snacks throughout the day you will get constipated and get headaches. Drink plenty of gatorade to help the dry mouth. And as long as you take Soloslim early in the morning right when you wake up, it should not affect your sleep 16 hours later that night. I think the anxiety and chest pressure is in your heads because you are so scared off by a product that just seems too good to be true. When your metabolism speeds up, so does your heart. It's natural! Do not give up on this pill! It will work, and SAFELY!
ReplyThis is to the lady who thinks that the side effects are our own fault. You are ignorant! I stopped taking this 3 days ago and i am still plagued by insomnia, racing heart, chest pressure, and anxiety. These things are not my fault as i did not feel like this before taking SS. To think that these things are because we arent eating or drinking enough or whatever your irrational reasons were are ridiculous. Believe that!
ReplyI'm pretty sure that Solo Slim is not supposed to increase heart rate. I was reading something that said that it dilates blood vessels and raises metabolism without raising heart rate.
ReplyI have been taking SS for alittle over a month now, 3 days on, 3 days off, due to side effects. I have lost 12 pounds and just started my second bottle. My only concern about my side effects are that I seem to feel really fatigued at around noon everyday, almost like I am coming down with a bug. Has anyone else noticed this or know why this is happening. I still eat and drink plenty of water. I didn't notice this until after about my third week. This is not due to not getting enough sleep, because before SS I only got about 6hours of sleep a night anyway. I want to continue taking SS because it has been successful with my weight loss, but I was wandering if others have felt that way too?
ReplyLee,
ReplyWhat time are you taking the pill each day?
Around 6:30-7am, then about 20-30minutes later I eat a light breakfast-diet coke, granola bar.
ReplyMy suggestion would be to replace the diet coke with gatorade. Use H2 gatorade to save calories. But it should help the stomach settle down much better than the coke does.
ReplyMy husband and I began taking Solo Slim Sunday. I have been experiencing headaches as well as not sleeping too well. My brother-in-law introduced us to Solo Slim. He has lost 28 pounds in two months. He is on high blood pressure medication, but was given the OK to be on Solo Slim by a doctor friend (not sure if he spoke with his actual doctor, though). I find myself hungry, but not in the mood to eat; nothing sounds good. However, I believe very strongly in eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner with light snacks inbetween. So, I am making myself eat. My husband and I eat very healthy, but we are noticing our portions are smaller! My husband hasn't had any side effects or so he says. As of now, we plan to continue taking it but will monitor how we feel very carefully. Oh, and exercise regularly, too! Oh and we both are on thyroid medications for hypothyrodism. The Solo Slim website states it's OK to take with thyroid meds. Let's hope so. I haven't lost any weight yet, but I cycle every day, so I have a lot of muscle which adds weight to the scale. Time will tell.
ReplyI just finished my second bottle of regular soloslim and have lost a total of 18 lbs. Because I'm not hungry and have energy it really makes me feel in control over my portions and I am eating healthier. I don't have to finish anything "because it's there" and am content with just a bite if it's something that sounds good. I pack my lunch and eat through out the day small snacks and really push the water, I found sugar free gum and candy does help with the dry mouth. Soloslim is working for me.
ReplyHas anyone noticed that they have unexplained bruises or that they easily bruise since taking SS? I bruise at the slightest bump and have some huge bruises that I truly do not know how I got them. I am not taking any other med and I never take aspirin.
ReplyI posted almost 2 months ago and I was at a 38 pound weight loss (approx. 3 months of taking the pill). I am now at an even 50, but even with only the 12 lbs in those months, I am down much more inches. I have obviously plateaued, so I stopped taking the pills for about a week and just started them again. This seems to retrigger things. I do have to say that when I wasn't taking it, I was craving so much stuff and feeling hungry not long after I ate my cereal.
In response to Lee, yes I have noticed the bruises. I assumed that it is because I am not eating as much food, therefore I am not getting the iron that I need.
ReplyI've been on extra strength ss for 3.5 weeks now and have lost 12 lbs.
ReplyI know this is weird but what i'm wondering is if anyone is experiencing the need to burp but can't?
when i finally do i feel better for maybe ten mins max but afterwards its back... i've been like this for maybe 2 or 3 days now and i'm considering getting off of it. i really dont want to because i like the progress! am i maybe not eating or drinking enough??
the fluctithin is causing that sensation
Make absolutely certain that the pill is down the esophagus lots of water when you take it. This ingredient absrbs the water and bloats in your stomach causing you the feeling of fullness which is what helps the appetite suppressant aspect.
The only worry is that if it were to expand in the upper esophagus it could restrict that area.
ReplyI found out about solo slim from my sister. She has lost 20 lbs in 2 months. She found out about it from her sister-in-law who lost 50 lbs in 8 months. I have been taking it for about 3 weeks now, and I have had decreased appitite, and eat less, but I have not lost any weight or inches. I am taking extra strength. I drink a lot of water, and therefore haven't experienced dry mouth or canker sores. But I have terrible headaches. What am I doing wrong, why havent I lost weight? I eat regularly and healthy food. I also try to exercize. But still nothing. Also, does anyone know if the SS will interfere with birth control pills? I hope not! (mother of 4)
Any help would be appreciated.
ReplyThanks,
Becky
Becky, I, too, suffered from headaches. However, the headaches seem to be less frequent. I've been on ss (regular) for two weeks now. Maybe you should try regular ss not extra strength. As far as not losing any weight, how are your portion sizes? This is the biggest change for my husband and me. We are eating much smaller portion sizes. I exercise very reguarly, but my husband does not. I'm losing weight quicker than him, so I encourage you to exercise at least thirty minutes every day; sustained exercise. Walking, lifting weights (you can use items around your house if you don't have weights). Not sure about the birth control. I'd definitely call your doctor!
ReplyI had headaches the first couple weeks too. They may be related to stopping your caffiene intake. I used to drink pepsi & coffee like crazy before I started taking Soloslim, but when I started soloslim i just wasn't thirsty anyymore, and my pop/coffee tasted like crap, so I just stopped drinking them. Could the headaches be withdrawals? They went away anyway. Also if you are not drinking enough water (my thirst reflex went away with my appetite) then you have to watch your salt intake - too much salt and not enough water will make your blood pressure rise and give you headaches too.
Good luck!
ps- i've been taking it for 3 months and have lost 30 lbs now :) Reply
HAS ANYONE TRIED FASTIN DIET PILLS FROM HI-TECH PHARMACEUTICALS ON LINE? AFTER READING EVERYONES COMMENTS ABOUT SOLS SLIM I SCARED TO STAT TAKING MY FASTIN PILLS.
ReplyI have been using the regular strength on and off (meaning I will take them a week-skip w/end or take them every other day etc) and they are still working great...the side effects (for me anyways) subsided after a few days. I do not have issues with constipation at all so I can't speak for that but I have really had no problems with dry mouth UNLESS I don't drink my water..I am accustomed to drinking like 8 glasses a day or more so if you force yourself you will not have problems w/ dry mouth and sores...plus water is great for you!
ReplyI have been able to gradually lose weight ( my goal was only 7-10 lbs however) and I have almost met that even w/ my on/off method! I am definetly thinner than before regardless of the scale not being too dramatic...my first place to lose was in my stomach (which is rare for me-it's always last) so that was exciting! Best of luck to everyone and my doc gave me a green light for these pills....he wants to see how they work for himself! And I trust him! As with everything in life, it's about moderation....there are diet pills out there that will make you crazy hyper---crazy palpitations etc..these are not too bad, pretty natural stuff actually.
Final comment here on my documentary :)
I have noticed a great difference in my body when excersize is incorporated....anything active....housework. walking. pilates. spinning. dancing....have fun w/ it and it will make such a BIG difference!
good luck to all!
Becky---as far as interfering with oral contraceptives...I haven't noticed a difference at all..I really don't think the ingredients should affect them...maybe wanna ask a dr...my gyno would tell me to not take them as she tells me not to use self tanner in a bottle (geez better than the sun, no?--uh, yeah!)! so I won't ask mine about it....she thinks EVERYTHING is bad. Please post if you hear anything about that!
ReplyI am concerned about creating sleep disorders. I also find myself yawning during the day, and feel a underlying rush of energy...strange combination. Possible heart rate increase from time to time, and what also appears to be a higher blood pressure, but not all the time. It definitely changes my ejaculation as it can make it less enjoyable or...restrained...and less fluid. My girlfriend notices better staying power... (sorry, but all this should be told...)I think it effects my prostrate somehow...
On a plus side, I actually like the feeling most of the time, but almost feel a slight addiction, perhaps just a mental one. I have lost 18 pounds and maybe two inches off the waste in approx. two months. So it all combines to make me feel better about myself. I have alternated between the extra strength and the regular, partly based on my planned activities (weekends usually get ES. I also go off of it for one to three days cause it seems to have an lasting effect, building up reserves in my body, so I get alittle scared from it and fast from it. It tends to still effect me when i'm not on it too, just not as dominate. I am going to keep taking it as i'd like to lose 15 more pounds, but I am keeping a close eye on the heartrate. If you really want to get the low down, I suggest looking up each ingredient, especially the synephrine! Its errie like ephedrine was, and they took it off the market cause of deaths!!!
ReplyMy sis-in-law takes Solo Slim. Lost 20 lbs. She has no side affects different than taking any other type of weight loss pill. If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Drink lots of water and it should also solve the constipation problem. Jittery, need some type of food and liquid. I have lost 35 lbs. I decided to cut back on my eating and eat raw veggies and fruits (not Celery-it has its own sodium,), I eat all day long and keep losing slowly, but it works for me. I have also taken up walking and have added excercise, but I have taken the Green Tea pills (they help the menopausal symptoms and are cheaper that Estroven) though I do not depend on them for weight loss. A friend went on Jenny Craig (she could afford it) Once she stopped she began to eat like crazy, she craved carbs, she needed to drink water. According to my water book, If you deny your body water, it will start to crave other things such as carbs and sugars. I shared this with her and she loaded up on water, she is doing fine now and maintaining. I also carry water with me wherever I go (in a cooler bag) 1/2 ice 1/2 water and drink all day (I carry 2-3 bottles). Folks do what is best for you, but don't depend on the "MAGIC PILLS" They do not exsist. You have to work for the body you want. They pills will do a small part for you, but in the end, it's all up to you.
ReplyI have taken Solo Slim "Star Slim" off and on for over a year. I found the Star Bodies program about two years ago and have used her plan to drive my weight loss. She found Solo Slim and is now marketing it in her line of products along with some great tasting protein shakes and .....FIBER let me tell you fiber is the key to lose weight! It will solve all those cloged up concerns. Pris's fiber has an ingredent that is good to your insides and wont make you run to the bathroom all the time. Star Slim will make you loose weight but I like to say that it keeps hunger pains at bay so I can create a meal plan thats good for me and be able to follow it. If you dont eat at least every three hours your body will go in to starvation mode and actully store fat. I suggest that anyone who wants to lose weight go to this site and get educated about the full circle of loosing weight. You can just take the pill and get results or you can take the pill work out with weights eat to feed your muscles "Protein" and take FIBER then you will be at peace when you know that what you ate last night past this morning. And I also had sleeping problems when I first started the pill but it was a great oppertunity to clean my house and I slept like a baby the next night. But just in case you still cant sleep check your diet cut the caffinee and sugar then see and if still maybe you could be alergic to an ingredent. Hope this helps and I can tell you this pill could be the awnser to alot of needs.
Replyto add to your comments just wanted to say that i am about to start my second bottle of xtra-strnght ss and at first i must say that it was terrible! oh but let me mention i have been taking them for almost a month and most of the bad side affects went away. i was feeling depressed, anxious, pms, insomnia, irritable, thirsty, and irritable. they did go away and i feel sooo much better now. i think it just takes your body time to adjust and it might not be great for everyone. first time taking a diet pill only taking it because friends and family took it and with great results with headaches only which was caused from not eating enough. i have lost about 12lbs which but i also exercise about 4x's per week but i worked out a month prior to taking ss and did not lose any weight until i took ss. overall if you think losing weight is worth a few discomforts at first it's great nothing in life for the most part comes that easily right? like they say no pain no gain!
ReplyKaren I developed a rash around my waist and lower back also. I take 1/2 a pill a day and sometimes skip a day due to insomnia. I cut the jitters drastically by not drinkng coffee.
ReplyI started regular SS the end of May. Took one bottle, then bought XS. I am almost done my 2nd bottle of XS (there has been a couple weeks I've taken a pill every other day, and one time went a week without taking them). In total, I'm down 10 lbs from where I was when I began. And that was within the first 1.5 months. (halfway thru my first bottle of XS)
I exercise, (3-4 X per week, 30 min. of cardio plus 25 min. of strength training), most of the time following weight watchers (i've been at it for years, so in my frame of mind I always count points of everything I eat, unintentially).
I don't know why these really aren't working for me. I read that some people that have been on it for 3 months lose like 50 lbs! I just want to lose another 10-15 lbs and I'll be at my goal weight.
Kinda frustrating, and wondering whether or not to fork out another $50 for another bottle.
ReplyI am wondering what the difference is between the regular and the XS..I have taken 2 bottles of regular strength and don't know if it is worth spending the xtra cash on the XS SS...any comments anyone?
Replythe ingredients are the same with the exception that in the extra strengh it doesn't have the L-Carnitine Tartrate in it's place it has Green Aloe. Both state 400mg Propretary Blend.
I took 3 bottles of regular and lost 20 (one bottle I was on vacation for 2 weeks (taking ss but eating what ever) and gained about 4 lbs but lost in about a week.
this past month I bought the extra strength and have lost an additional 4 lbs. for a total of 24. I will go back to the regular as I didn't feel any real difference between the two.
I think that both work, but when it comes to the lossing weight- it's the pill helping you to curb your appitite, feel fuller, stop the cravings so that you can make good decisions on portions and foods you eat that ultimately result in the weight loss. I look at it like it's a tool to gain control and I love it.
since July 07 I have lost 64 lbs the 1st 40 were on nutrisystem the last 24 on soloslim since May 08. I'm not where I want to be yet but Soloslim gives me the confidence that I can get there- for the first time in my life I feel like I am in control and can eat like a normal person, that I can have anything- because I can have just a taste, or a normal portion, I don't have to eat the whole thing. I am even able to have junk food in the house for the family and leave it alone?! it's a 1st for me. I do see myself on soloslim long term, whether it be every other day or couple days on couple days off, because even without any weight loss, I appreciate the other benefits.
ReplySeveral women at my job have lost alot of wieght with Solo Slim. Everyone of them had no side effects, so I tried them for a month.I lost about five pounds but I stopped taking them because of the side effects. I had headaches, couldn't sleep and had lower back pain. When I quit taking them my symtoms went away.
ReplyI took my firdt solo slim regular today. I feel jittery and headachy. I also am on high blood pressure medication and wondering if anyone knows id this is safe for me?
ReplyUnfortunately I dont think it is safe. I highly recommend to ask your doctor. The main website to Solo Slim states not recommended for high/low pressure.
ReplyI have been taking SS regular strength for about 8 weeks now. I have lost about 11 kgs which is great but yes I do have side effects. They include:
Replyinsomnia
heart palpitations
a tingling sensation in my extremities
but the one that is most bothering me is a choking sensation (tightness in my throat). Has anyone experienced this? Someone wrote in about muscle tension and to make sure you relax (why?). I love the weight loss- but have a feeling my health may be suffering.
I too have experienced the tightness in my throat. Almost like you cant swollow. I think I am going to stop after this bottle. The reason I want to loose weight is to be healthy and I dont think this is healthy for me due to the side effects.
Replyi think that the throat contriction is probably just an allergic reaction. I have lots of pretty severe allergies and my throat closing up or feeling like it's somehow too swollen on the inside is ALWAYS a big indication that i'm having a reaction. I always take a Benadryl or two and then i'm fine... BUT, i don't know if taking it on a regular basis to counteract the soloslim would be a good idea...
better to ask your Doctor...
ReplyIt's the Konjac in the pill that causes that constriction. You must take it with lots of water. The Konjac swells in the stomach giving you a full sensation. Many oriental people and vegetarians use this. It causes food to gel/bind without having to use dairy products. It is important to know that you must drink lots of water, especially when swallowing the pill, as it can swell and block the esophagus if it stops there. Drinking plenty of water will cause it to flow into the stomach where the swelling effect is acceptable. Also, if you have been taking caffeine in any of its forms (sodas, coffee, latte, etc.) you are going to have withdrawal symptoms of nervousness, jitteriness, etc. Eat food at appropriate times and you probably won't get the headaches, but again, if you are going through caffeine withdrawal, you will just have to wait this out. Flax seed (taken with a lot of water and throughout the day, can alleviate any constipation symptoms.
ReplyI took this product for 4 days only the first day felt great, second day a little jittery third day tense all over especially in the back and neck area. On the forth day my heart was racing, my mouth was dry as a desert and I felt "wired".
ReplyI do not like this feeling and if it is safe and natureal I do not believe it should cause people to feel this way. I was also irritable, experienced hear preasure and sleeplessness. It took almost 3 days to feel normal again. If it works for you great,as for me I'll stick to reducing calories and exercise.
Solo Slim is just like the rest of the diet pills. Its so new still that you havent heard about all of the big long lasting problems. It has the same crack ingredients as all of the others, they are just forms of ephedra, that way Solo Slim doesnt have to place the ephedra name on the bottle. It clearly states that it is not FDA approved. So some how it snuck under the raidar just like all of the other ones did before. Remember Yellow Jackets? Black Ephedra Pills? Metabolife? Metabolife went off the shelfs for some period of time because they got such a bad rap for side effects---- Such as dry mouth, headache, and heart palpitaions.. If you decide to take any diet pill you should know that there are going to be side effects. There is no pill that will cure FAT. I lost 60lbs 5years ago by a fluke. It took me a year to loose it all. I just added mass amount of fiber to my diet. I was diagnosed with IBS and my doc told me to start eating better to see if that helped, and what do you know I slowly started to loose weight and my IBS felt better. The more weight I lost the better I ate and the more I wanted to become active. I felt great. I gained some of my weight back over the years about 20lbs. So I decided to try SOLO SLIM and I am almost ashamed of myself for preaching healthy living for so long and now this. And to top it off Solo Slim makes me feel like crap. I will stop using it after the bottle is gone and I will motivate my self to do this the right way.
ReplyBefore taking the pills I did get a full check-up to ensure I didnt have any unaware health issues. I have been taking solo slim extra strength since Jan '08 and I love it! It curves my appetite and most of all my cravings for sweets. I'm back to a size 5 and feel great! The only side affect that I got was a mild headache for the first 2 or 3 days of taking the pill, after that it's as if I was not taking anything. This the first pill that I am able to workout without any side affects. Also I did suffer from a slight insomnia for a couple of days, but I'm not sure if it had to do with the pills or final exams week.
I have told all of my family and friends about Solo Slim and I have seen great success. My sister alone went from a size 18 to a size 7 in 4 months. Co-worker lost over 50 pounds in 5 months, the only side affects they both have or that I hear is the most common for my family & friends is dry mouth, but besides that they all love it. I highly recommend Solo Slim.... but first check with your doctor to ensure it's right for you. Unfortunately every body reacts different to certain things.

Hello.. I have been taking Solo Slim for about 5 days. I have experienced severe dry mouth and Insomnia. I generally am not a big water drinker so I have been making myself drink LOTS of water. As for the Insomnia I have been waking up about every 2 hours, tossing and turning, and then waking up permanently at around 530/6am...which is NOT normal for me. The positives... even with the lack of good sleep I have a lot of energy, and this helps with being moitivated to exercise. I havent really noticed any weight loss yet. QUESTION>> For people experiencing insomnia; Does it go away....does your body adjust?? I cant handle the lack of sleep. I didnt take it today with the hopes of sleeping tonight. Maybe I will try every other day?
Thanks, this is the only sight I have found reviews of this product.
Replyyes you body will adjust to the insomnia. took me about 3 weeks, then when i started the XStrength it started up again. Now i only take a pill every 2-3 days and i'm sleeping like a baby again. But i would wake up every couple hours, and be up for good around 5:30 a.m. - i'd doze in and out til my alarm went off, but it wasn't a good sleep.
ReplyThanks Natasha,
ReplyThat sounds exactly like how I am sleeping!! Awake every 2 hrs....I am really hoping the insomnia goes away soon! I dont want to quite using it has really helped several people I know lose weight! Well I will stick it out a little longer.Hopefully I will see results I have been dieting and exercising with not a lot of results. Hopefully this will be the boost I need!
What are the most common side effects people are having Taking Solo SLim?
ReplyHi, I have taken soloslim for a week. I have Gerd and was wondering if anybody else has experienced intense pressure, or abdominal pain in there stomach after eating? I can only eat a small amount at a time because I get full so fast. I also have been experiencing alot of acid being burped up as well as constipation.....not sure if its affecting my gerd but it sure seems like it.
ReplyI have lost about 4lbs in a week.I don't feel any extra energy though which is a bummer. I could always use some extra energy.
I've been on and off solo slim for about eight months; one month on, and then a couple off. When exercising and taking solo slim the weight loss has been very rapid 3-5 lbs a week. When I am not exercising the loss is less apparent. As for dry mouth and constipation- my doctor said i just need to drink a lot more water. I think with the raised metabolism there is more respiration, hence the need for more water. 4 people in my family have taken it and we all experienced the "insomnia" but it went away within the first week. I find it easy to stay up late late late if I want to but have no problem falling asleep when I go to bed. I just have to schedule my sleep rather than letting fatigue dictate when I will go to bed. Also it is important, as mentioned by others, to eat a healthy amount while on solo slim, especially when using solo slim long term. A suppressed appetite doesn't mean your body doesn't need food and some of the more severe side effects that people have listed seem like they may have come from under eating. Obviously everyone is different and can have different experiences with different drugs so each person should carefully and monitor their experience. My only bad side effect that I have noticed is dry mouth and constipation which is a product of a higher metabolism and is healthily solved by a higher water intake. Also though I can go off of very little sleep while on solo slim I am miserable unless I get a full eight hours so I have to decide to go to bed at a decent hour. And, since the cravings are gone, I have to be more conscious about getting the food and nutrition that I need.
ReplyOh and my experience is with regular strength. I've never tried extra strength.
ReplyPLEASE READ IF YOU ARE GETTING HEADACHES! everyone in my husbands office was taking this new natural pill and losing weight and loving it. so i got on board, i started with the extra strength solo slim and had the same issues of insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, etc. i lost about 12 lbs in 2 months. great for me, only had 10 more to go to get to ideal weight! i didn't see as much on the scale as size of my body. i felt thin and skinny and went down 2 sizes in clothes. life couldn't get any better. then i ended up in the emergency room from horrific headaches. i had one that lasted 8 days straight! i never even realized the headaches came the same time i was on solo slim. then other ladies in my husband's office started saying how they had been to the ER for severe headaches and how scared they were they didn't know what was wrong with them. i had even had my naturapathic doctor look over the ingredients to make sure it was "safe" . she didn't see anything to cause concern, but it must be the combo of "natural" ingredients dehydrates you so severely that you can't drink your way out of this dehydration. PLEASE STOP TAKING IT IF YOU HAVE HEADACHES. after 2 er visits, a spinal tap test and life stopping headaches that medicine cant fix, i am now back to normal after a 2 week detox. once i went off solo slim, the headaches took 2 weeks to stop.
Replyi would just like to update everyone: i have been off solo slim for a month now. and after the two week detox, no more headaches. please realize solo slim equals severe headaches and it is not worth it. they only get worse and worse. don't think they will go away if your still on solo slim. they go away when you quit taking the pills! (actually about 2 weeks after)
ReplyI am on day 2, did any one else get chills, and night sweats?
ReplyI have been taking Solo Slim for a week. I'm 5'2", 150lbs with about 20 pounds to lose. So far I've lost 2 lbs. I have been watching what I eat for the most part (averaging about 1200 calories a day), but not exercising yet. I plan to add that in next week (I do better when I ease into things, rather than trying to change everything at once).
Overall I have noticed a big decrease in hunger, and have to remind myself to eat sometimes (especially when I get busy at work). So far I am happy with the results and how I feel.
As for the most common symptoms I've seen listed:
- Increased Heart Rate / Blood Pressure - I don't drink caffeine except for occasionally, and I haven't really noticed my heart racing from Solo Slim.
- Insomnia - I've only really noticed some restless sleeping the first few nights, but that seems to be subsiding now. I've had no problems falling asleep, but more waking up around 2am (which is something I've done before as well). Oddly, even though I've been sleeping restlessly, when I wake up in the morning, I'm less drowsy than I used to be before Solo Slim.
- Dry Mouth - I have always drank a lot of water (60+ ounces a day) and I haven't noticed any dry mouth except when I realized I haven't been drinking my water as much.
- Constipation - same as above. So I wonder how much water people with those symptoms are drinking each day?
- Headaches - I've only had one on day 3...and realized I hadn't eaten in over 4 hours. So now I try to plan when I will eat, making sure I eat at the very least a snack at least every 3 hours, and haven't had a headache since. Headaches can also be caused by dehydration - so drink your water!
