The Maker's Diet: Faker's Diet?

A series of articles at BellaOnline completely and systematically tear apart Jordan Rubin's The Maker's Diet.

While some of these points are old news, when combined together it makes interesting reading. Fake credentials, FDA bans, and apparently promoting soil organisms. I have not read the book so I cannot verify this, but this particular review seems overly negative and a bit hysterical:

If you’re not familiar with Rubin’s “miracle” ingredient, “soil organisms,” let’s bring the little buggers up into the light of day. First off, he tries to make us believe the Bible and various researchers recommend eating dirt for the soil organisms. Is this true? Of course not. But, by starting with basic facts and adding a whirlwind of fast talk, Rubin concludes 1 + 1 = 3, when it doesn’t. That’s how the art of con works.
These are all fairly strong allegations, and despite all this, The Maker's Diet is a top seller at Amazon and maintains an excellent review status of 4 stars.

I personally don't believe you need credentials to make helpful and useful contributions to people's health. The proof of the Maker's Diet will bear out in the results of the people who have followed it.

UPDATE: You can now access all the details of The Maker's Diet online (includes tools to track food, create meal plans and recipes, and a facility to get answers from author Jordan Rubin).

First off, let me say that I am in no way affiliated with this diet or book. I am actually in the midst of reading the book by Jordan. I purchased it after a close friend, who coincidentally is atheist, told me about it. He had suffered Crohn's disease his whole life. As an adult (when I met him) he was 6' 5" and weighed about 125 lb. Almost 2 years ago he jumped on the Maker's Diet program with both feet. Today he has gained at least 40 lb and looks better than ever. He no longer takes Crohn's meds nor does he suffer ANY symptoms and I have questioned him thoroughly. I am certainly not trying to give false hope...just stating the fact of my personal friend's case.

I am not, nor have I ever been Christian. None the less, I have taken a number of nutrition, anatomy, and physiology classes, and in my opinion the dietary and nutritional information in Jordan Rubin's makes perfect sense. It is better for me to strip the religious aspect out of it. However, I have always believed that if we didn't eat it 200 years ago we should not eat it now. Mass produced, refined, and genetically modified foods along with over-use of pesticides and harsh chemicals are the bane of human existance. I say, don't believe anything anyone tells you. Research it and try it for yourself. I think the idea behind this "diet" is sage advice. Although, I would be more apt to actually use the tools that Jordan Rubin is "offering" through his website (roughly $250/yr) and companion guides, if he wasn't trying to make a fortune off of people's misery and desire for hope.

I read this book 3 years ago and lost 20 lbs in a month and felt great however due to being on the road most of the time I had a hard time sticking to it and gradually went back to the old way of eating. Gained back about 40 lbs, always tired. Cleaning one day I found this book again and am commited to sticking to it. In the last three weeks I've lost about 13 lbs and feel great! My husband has lost almost 20 lbs, his blood pressure has dropped for the first time in 30 years and he feels great as well. We will defineately make it a priority to eat like this.
Some people seem concerned with the cost of organic food, yes organic food costs more, but you eat less! We used to spend a bunch eating out and you can't put a price tag on health. Also read the Natural Cures book by Kevin Trudeau lots of people bash him as well but I do believe what he writes. Since cutting out fast food and packaged foods my hunger level has decreased ten fold. Maybe there is some truth that chemicals are added to these types of foods to increase are appetites. Look at the obesity propblem in America. By the way I am a Christian and truly believe it is not our place to judge anyone - let God judge them! If you can afford the supplements buy them if not follow the diet and from that alone you will benefit. God Bless

Sound nutrition is the first medicine and it's a pity that most modern doctors prefer prescribing pills.
Here in Holland Dr. Moerman cured cancer patients with a healthy diet (Moerman dieet).
Dr. Max Gerson and Dr. Joel Fuhrman base their therapies on the same principles of healthy food and healthy lifestyle to cure most modern diseases.

Whoever created this blog page said he/she haven't read the book, I suggest they do. I have never stuck to a diet before, but reading the book it made sense. Anything I do now a days, I always think back to the book. I am a career hard-working mom, but I make time to cook dinner every night, staying away from processed food. By remembering the "MAKER'S DIET" and taking it to heart, I believe my family is eating alot healthier!

I have not read the book myself but my mom did, I have been following the probiotic, i guess, way of treating my Crohn's and I have been doing well for 4 years now. wow, time flys... the belief in God or gods is your own choice and really, I dont care. I'm not here for any opinion other than the treatment I used worked. I just think that we look too much for the "magic pill", couldnt it be as simple as it already being here. for all of you people who think thats the answer look to the middle east for how they treat things--> to cure and not to make lifetime customers out of you with a drug you have to take the rest of your life pumping money in where it doesnt belong and fill you with side effects for more drug usage. It worked for me so i guess, thats all the proof I need... slam it all you want, but just remember that you could end up "a lifetime customer" with our current medicated treatment methods or you could just eat... hmmm, not McDonalds and.. hmmm... exercise once and a while, and take a few supplements with no liver or cancer side effects. Whos the Genius here?

I have just completed reading The Maker's Diet. In discussion with my wife, we have decided to give it a try doing the 40 day plan.

My wife has always been better at eating more nutritiously than I and still has suffered with various health issues such as constipation (irregular bowel movements) for 31 yrs, low energy levels, thyroid issues, fat gain and dryness of skin. My health issues include keratosis pilaris, eczema, low energy, fat gain, poor circulation in the legs, and aches like arthritis (not ever been diagnosed).

We know the body was designed to heal itself. It has amazing abilities to heal to which we need to help facilitate through proper nutrition, sleep and cleanliness. We are going to try out this plan and incorporate the principles mentioned anticipating positive results.

As someone has already stated we have to take our health into our own hands. It is each person’s responsibility to pony up, do some research, try out various nutritional suggestions and find what works. We are all created by the same Creator, and were designed to eat what He created for us. We have moved away from that and need to focus on getting back to the basics.

Bottom line I can only speak on behalf of myself and my wife. We vowed to take care of each other till death do us part and our commitment to each other will allow us to hold the other accountable for the choices we make, along with encouragement and discipline to see our search for optimal health through. I love my wife very much and I want her well. It’s going to happen…and that is my faith.

I'll post again in the near future. Best wishes to all on your road to better health

If you are a Christian, should read the post below. If not, become a Christian, then read it :-)

Just wanted to post a quick note to any Christians talking about the new covenant and how the dietary laws were "abolished" I would suggest you do a little study on it. By study - I mean read the passages in question, examining both the context, and also the greek behind the translations. Here are just a few of them, and the easily identified problems. All bible quotes are NKJV

In Acts 10 - Peters vision.
10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. 17 Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate.

See Verse 17? Peter does not know what to make of the vision. But look a little further, when he DOES finally figure it out.

28 Then he said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean

Another passage that people love to use to "prove" the dietary laws were "abolished" is in Mark 7

14 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”[f]
17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”

To understand this one, you must look at a earlier part of the chapter. Look at:

1 Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. 2 Now when[a] they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.

The ENTIRE conversation was about eating with unwashed hands. To give a very short paraphrase.
Prarisees: Why are you eating without following our handwashing ritual?

Jesus: You are concerned with ritual when your hearts are far from me - eating with unwashed hands will not hurt you because whatever junk you get by eating without washing will be purified by your digestive system. Be more concerned about the things of your heart.

Another interesting part of using this particular quote is this. When interpreting scripture you ALWAYS use easily understood passages to help explain harder ones. That is a basic principle. Look at Matthew 15 - This is the exact same scene as described by Matthew

16 So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”

A little more clear? Also, In Matthew 5 - Jesus speaking

17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

He says until heaven and earth pass away he will in no way change the laws. If Mark 7 IS him declaring all foods clean, then scripture is inconsistent - which cannot be the case.

Sorry for the long post, but Christians are VERY misinformed about this WAY too often. Satan would LOVE for you to defile yourself with all the stuff God says do not eat.

Chuck,

Thank you SO MUCH! I have been trying to put down on paper what you have written for YEARS! I am always trying to explain to people these verses but never can think of how to say it until later (of course). Would you mind if I save your writing and use it to show people? I will not take credit for it - actually I will gladly say that someone else agrees with me!

In response to the book review, I had TMJ last year and lost over 40 lbs - when I only needed to lose 30. My health deteriorated rapidly and I was in the hospital numerous times because I was very malnourished (couldn't get anything in my mouth). I started eating healthy, but I had no clue what I was doing so I was still not nourished well. I picked up the Maker's Diet and I have never looked back! I have gained almost all the weight back (not all 40 lbs! just 10), and my skin/hair is much smoother and healthier than before. This diet fit me perfectly and I feel amazing. The only thing I do not do is I do not eat meat, except for fish, but just because I don't like the taste of it.

I highly recommend this diet for anyone and everyone - even if you don't need to lose weight. You will feel better and be much healthier, and the food is YUMMY! :D

There really are a lot of things that I could say in response to this, but that could take years. What I do know is that cases of cancer and Alzheimer's are at a record high and continuing to increase and yet neither doctor's nor nutritionist's have any explanation for it. Doctor's or Nutritionist's also don't have an explanation for Jordan's healing, but it happened, and he contributes it to a diet from the Lord. People have every freedom to eat as they choose and live life as they choose, but as for me, I will trust in the Lord Jesus and his way above anything or anyone else.

In response to Chuck -
An oft-quoted Scripture about food in the Bible is in 1 Cor 6:12 when Paul says "All things are permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial - but I will not be mastered by anything." I actually heard an Assemblies of God pastor only quote the first half of this verse to justify the eating of bacon, black pudding & prawns. The fact that he & his whole family are overweight, most of the men in the congregation plus all but one of the 50 or so women; does not encourage me to trust his preaching on the subject - though he is an excellent teacher otherwise!
However, it does appear that Jordan Rubin has undergone a massive transformation & I find that far more credible. My only criticism of the Maker's Diet is the 'need' for supplements. God didn't give us instructions to supplement our diet, but then He didn't tell us to pollute our food with insecticides, DDT, antibiotics, hormones & other chemicals, so maybe there is a case for them?
When I was 25 in 1983 I had advanced ovarian cancer. I ate a 80% raw-food diet & took massive vitamin & mineral supplements, herbs & prayer. I recently had a huge special praise party for my 50th birthday to celebrate & am now enjoying watching my grandchildren grow up when I wasn't expected to live to see my own children do so. God is very good indeed.
However, in 1991 I was in a car accident which left me disabled & I have found it impossible to keep my weight down - getting increasingly larger every year from 9st (126lbs) in 1991 to 19st (266lbs) in 2006. BUT, I have lost 35lbs in three months on the Maker's diet alone - so the proof is definite for me. God really does know best & my only regret is not finding out sooner. Also, my husband - who has had non-cystic fibrosis all his 65 years is now so much better & producing so much less mucus that he can work part-time doing hard, physical labour - which he hasn't been able to do for well over 20 years! He also needs far less sleep - he was sleeping 16-18 hours a day & was still tired! He has also noticed his 'male' problems have disappered - much to our mutual delight!!
A very Happy & Healthy new year to you all from England!

Let's ignore the FACT that the author lies about his credentials, and subject ourselves to his money-making supplement scheme. Why not? Who better knows how to interpret the Bible than some lying quack? What have we got to lose, except our health and a whole lot of money.[...]
How do you know that the credentials are lies? Supplements are sometimes necessary because of all the crap we have exculded from our diets as americans. Like someone else said on here, how about you try it out before you put it down. Read the book and follow the diet for the 40 days. Then if you still feel the way you do, come back and state so. Other wise, you don't know what your talking about. Reply

To Sue and Paxton
First, I have read the Maker's Diet book, and did not get the idea that Jordan was saying it was new information. I think he wrote it down to bring it to people's attention. I know that I didn't think so much about what I ate until my step sister told my parents about it and we saw her results, as well as her families. (she lost the extra weight she had and her kids weren't as hyper, had lots of engery, but weren't hyper)
Second, he mentioned that his family did not get their immunization shots, it's just how he grew up. I do not believe that he is saying we shouldn't get our children their immunization shots. If that's what parents do, that's their decision as parents.
Third, if you look around you can find simular supplements that would do the same thing for more or less then the price of the ones Jordan offers.

My post is obviously weeks behind everyone elses commentary, never the less I am sure it will help a few who do browse through and read. It seems apparent that we as christians, even those who are non christian are quick to judge the next person's eating habits and either condone or condemn someones dietary advice. Science has irrefutably proved the health benefits of actually following the dietary advice set out in scripture. Ofcourse then we have christians who STILL think there are two sides concerning this and will quote scripture accordingly. All I wish to say is that which ever 'side' you feel you are on, please just take time to read the whole of Romans 14. There is no longer any scriptural requirement for us to rephrain from any particular foods, but subjecting oneself to such restrictions is not wrong by any means. What is wrong is to try portray your side as the one in the right, or one that is pleasing to God. For those christians who are incensed with what I am writing I kindly ask you to go ahead still and read Colossians 2 verses 16 - 23 and paying REAL PARTICULAR attention to verses 20, 21 and 22. If those scriptures do not move you to a non judgemental state of heart then I'm not sure what will.

The bottom line though is that it is good health practice to follow God's diet, in my case though I enjoy my freedom and eat as I please and have not suffered any ailment what so ever in over 4yrs solely because my health is guaranteed by God, not the food I eat. I would wish for others to enjoy this freedom I do but Romans 14 clearly tells me that not all will have as much faith as I do. Take care everyone and God bless!

Soil proteins, well as far fetched as it may seem to some people. Some of the most potent antimicrobial drugs are derived from soil proteins.

In fact there is one Western Australian Company who knows of the benefits of such microbes the floated to become a public company in 2007.

They understand that in many parts of the world these proteins are depleting at an alarming rate. Yet still many new ones are to be found or discovered.

This is real science not fake, sometimes we just have to understand that this world was created with intricate balance in mind.

As a Christian, I am shocked and disheartened that Our Lord's very own teachings are neglected and now exploited by a scam artist. My fellow Christians, the root of all evil is money! The Lord cast out the money changers from the Temple. We have invited them back in. Jordan Rubin is as deceptive as the serpent. Sin is what makes us sick! Those that exploit the weak and the ill for money are dispicable. Just because he "claims" to be a "Christian" does not make it so. This fraud is no more a doctor than Donald Duck "Quack"! He has made a fortune on something God gives us freely; Wisdom and Discernment. Wake up Christians and smell the thorns! If he lies about the small things then he cannot be trusted with the largeer. He spews his lies in sacred places. Give your money to the poor! Eat and live wisely and don't throw your diamonds to swine like Jordan Rubin. May God forgive him and us for putting our faith in such a liar,

To Joe: One of the most oft misquoted things in the Bible is that "money is the root of all evil." In fact, it is the love of money, not the making of it. It amazes me that whenever anyone in the non-mainstream of health or nutrition makes a dime, detractors scream that they are just making money off of people. How often do people question the high salaries of doctors, research scientists (trying to develop more drugs), and drug company executives? No, they are just trying to make life better for everyone, right? Their motives are pure, surely! I firmly believe that if a drug company developed a literal cure for all cancers, in the form of a cheap, single pill, it would end up costing thousands of dollars a dose - the drug industry is about nothing but keeping us dependent, and making huge profits. What better way than to make sure we stay sick?

Interesting points Kevin, but would you consider that just because someone maligns something that is "alternative" does not mean that that they are automatically pro-pharmaceutical? I believe that there is no monopoly on quackery. I think both mainstream and alternative methods can be fundamentaly flawed.

I actually agree with Joe insofar as people playing the faith card to promote questionable methods. Ben Lerner does the same thing (body by God). Please note that this is different than faith-based weight loss programs with legitimate, evidence-based and ministry-driven concepts.

According to the letter written by the apostles to the new churches in Acts 15:23-29, God didn't want to burden the new gentile converts with having to immediately conform to a huge list of strict laws. This doesn't mean the laws aren't important, but certainly doesn't mean you'll go to hell if you don't follow them. I believe God gave us all the food laws and hygene laws for our health, not our salvation. If anyone says you have eat kosher to be saved, You're no better than the pharisees of Jesus' time. If anyone says you can completely ignore all the food and hygene laws in the bible and God will keep you healthy, than you are totally ignorant of one of the primary purposes of the Bible. Eat well and you will live well; eat poorly and you will live poorly. God bless.

day 20 on the makers diet

Some days i was bad!
Like on the weekends
id go out drinking with my friends.
Once a week id have a couple slices of little ceasers pizza. And i would drink unorganic fruit juice and such. And even a soda or 2 during the week.

I Stoped drinking soy and started drinking kifir
I mix in my favorite fruit and local honey in the
plain kifir and found it better than any yogert i have ever had. I found out how brilliant food really tastes when you take a few minutes to prepare something like a organic free range chicken soup with vegis. TOday i just found out that our local store carries ezekiel bread which is good because thats been really tough for me to resist and i tried there ezekiel bread toasted today and it was full of flavor that i been missing from normal bread. I found 1 essentiol oil in the store called myrrhh it has become a ritual now to put it on after bathing. I havent ate any dirt but i sure have got myself dirty while working out in the sun on a trampoline. i bathe in the dirt for extra time in the dirty bath water mixed with cinnamon powder.. after i soak then i shower off whatever is left hoping maybe i absorbed some helpful HSos...

ok you may think im crazy doing this stuff.
But i have lost 10 pounds
gained more muscle mass,
my skin no longer looks pale and it glows.
I have much more energy to dance!
My private life these last couple weeks
has become so much fun.
Im much more focused at work
and have been able to sell more.
and i have a closer relationship with GOD

Literally i feel unstoppable
even doing the diet half ass

I worked in a GI clinic for 9 years. We did clinical trials for Crohn's disease. The fact is that we were promiting probiotics and it was working, so in "actual medical clinical trials" not "health-food people" probiotics were working. The Maker's Diet is fantastic and works!

I recently got a free book at a health food store by the author of the Maker's Diet. It is called Perfect Weight America. I was excited reading the first three chapters, it all seemed life-changing and made a lot of sense.

I also thought, why would this guy give away this beautifully produced book and access to his new website without charging a dime?

Then as I read past the first three chapters and got into the eating portion, I realized with every suggestion for eating, he recommended a supplement from his company Garden of Life.

He'll say Rainforest cacao is a great source of anti-oxidants and etc. and then refer us to The Garden of Life Rainforest Cacao Bar and launch into an advertisement...like, these bars are made from the bitter and tangy cacao found in the rainforests of the Hymalian valley of Nunket and our team at Garden of Life developed this excellent source of cacao that you purchase...

And I got to thinking...well, he advocates eating according to the seasons, avoiding processed foods, natural living and then recommends a punch of packages and pouchs? It doesn't make sense.

Man, I am SO disappointed. I was very excited about embracing a big change in my lifestyle and for tips and information to be mapped out for me so nicely. Now, I think I'm being had...he may have some sound advice in there but its sullied by the barely hidden coporate plan.

The free book and website are a sound investment for Garden of Life. They get a captive audience for their in-depth product advertisements.

So I can say for me, The Maker's Diet worked.

What I don't get is why Jordan has so many credentials from non-accredited institutions and mail-order companies.
Why didn't he go to a normal college like the rest of us. He seems to be an expert in Bible and nutrition yet he has mastered neither.
Is Crohn's disease equivalent to earning a PhD in chemistry, biology or nutrition?
Why did Hawaii close down his "alma mater?" Why doesn't his natural medicine school have a campus? What if I wanted to study nutrition and write a book as well? Could I attend his school and join his fraternity? Of course not because they don't exist.

Katie, I have read that the FDA is run by user fees and that Big Pharma pays those user fees, so the allegation is that they have the FDA in their pocket to do their bidding. I don't trust the FDA, and the FDA has been in trouble with Congress for quite a while now.

The info about the FDA is so correct. Many Doctors, even Dr. Mercola who is a famous natural doctor cannot even take insurance now because if they do not follow the AMA's (American Medical Association)recommendations for treating medical ailments they can lose their license. Case in point~ my mother has cancer that is through her body; she went on a medication that helped the estrogen responsive cancer shrink, then she stopped taking the medicine and began juicing, using supplements, infared sauna, etc and has still continued to get better...her latest tumor marker is within the normal range! But she has not told her Dr. that she has gone of the meds because he gets worked up with her when she goes the natural route. He recently told her that if she doesn't do what he tells her and she dies, he could be held liable.....what about if she does what he (and the AMA) says and she dies?? Can they be held liabel? no way! So you don't think the FDA care so much....look at the AMA as well.

Interesting comments all. It is especially interesting that in all of the negative posts I wasn't able to find ONE person who said they followed the plan and it didn't work.

There are many who said they did it and it worked. There are many who say it's quackery and con-artistry at its finest. But there is not one who said they tried the diet and it didn't work as advertised.

That pretty much tells me what I need to know.

Hello to everyone who posted here, I have 2 personal stories to tell you, both are in the very beginning stages. I have had gastrointestinal problems for over 10 years. The doctors did not know what I had, and after first thinking it was HIV (until negative tests results, phew!), then a stomach Ulcer, then IBS with severe chronic Gastritis (Swelling of the stomach), I had no relief for 10 years. Every day I would be in pain when I ate anything, or feel cramping or bloating, or feel pressure - ask anyone with gastrointestinal problems - your life becomes a living hell. Everytime you eat, you worry how much it will hurt.

Sometimes it would get so bad that i could only eat rice for a week until I felt better enough to eat normal foods again. I can not explain how much life becomes unlivable when one has these types of problems. It would be as if your car's engine was not working properly, nothing feels right and you worry all the time about food. Its something healthy people take for granted at least 3 times a day.

I am not a Christian, I am an atheist. I began taking 2 different supplements that just happen to be produced by Garden of Life (I am not a shill for the company, i just picked them because I liked the nutritionist who recommended them, she was very cute!) anyhow, after one week on FYI (which is suppossed to reduce inflamation) I no longer have cramping, bloating and horrible sick feeling after I eat food. I feel normal again for the first time in 10 years after I eat food. I wanted to cry I felt so good, at first I didnt think the supplements would work, I am a skeptic, but I can not ignore how I feel and how much my life has changed.

I still had other digestive problems, as well as a persistent case of thrush (its why the doctors initially thought I had HIV) so just today I began taking Primal Defense, which is a probiotic, to balance out my stomach and intestines and hopefully cure my thrush problem. I will let you know how this goes, but so far, I am feeling so much better that I cant begin to explain how happy I am and how much the quality of my life has improved. Nutrition, I am now convinced, is the KEY to our health.

Lastly, my mother has been suffering from loose stools, diarrhea, and hemroids for the past 2 years. Finally, after moving, her new doctor (YES AN M.D. - a "REAL" doctor) suggested she try using Probiotics. She didnt know what kind to get, and went to GNC and the perosn there suggested Nutrition Now. I am not shilling, again, just giving you the exact facts. After 1 day (ONE!!!) she stopped have 4-5 bowel movements a day, the diarrhea stopped, no more itching down in that area, and that she could feel better. that was after 1 day!

I am writing all of this because I know there are other people who have similar intestinal problems and their doctors have not been able to cure them. I am not saying that every supplement is good or that this will work for everyone, but for myself (so far) and for my mother, it has changed our lives to the point where we are back to our old selves. PLEASE do not give up and do not stop trying to find a cure for what is ailing you. Take a chance (I was scared to death to try any of this hippie medicine, but I was proved wrong), dont go over board or do anything without reading as much as you can about it first, but once you feel comfortable enough, dont be afraid to try and make yourself better. Dont give up!!!

I am not shilling for Rubin or his products, or for any company, I am sure most of the probiotics out there today will do the same if I had tried them instead. What I am saying is see a nutritionist and ask their advice. My life is slowly coming back to me, and if I believed in a God, I would thank Her or Him or Whatever. Nothing is as valuable as your health.

I have a copy of the Maker's Diet and find one major flaw in the book. It is addressed to a general readership when it should really be narrowed more specifically. The author seems to be advocating the diet as a cure-all for all types of disorders (even cancer) when it may actually only be effective for Crohn's Disease and similar conditions. To contrast, I have read two other authors on diets for kidney disease and both advocate low-protein, low salt diets. I noticed that the recipes in Jordan's book are high-protein, high salt and could be harmful to the wrong person. I have also read other Bible-based authors and they have come to very different Bible interpretations of what religious should eat, although there is some commonality about not eating pork. I looked on the garden of life website and was unable to find anything there about HSOs.

I've taken Jorden Rubin's suppliments and followed his diet principles to help my Crohn's Disease. The only trouble I've had since is when I"ve "fallen off the wagon". I have rid myself of chronic candida and improved my stamina and energy levls to the point that I can now work overtime in my job in healthcare (very stressful and demanding) when I was barely able to work 36 hours/week previously. You be the judge.

Its been a month since I posted and started taking pro-biotics (Primal Defense). I am also taking FYI (for your inflamation), Fungal Defense, and digestive enzymes. I have also switched to a no wheat/no yeast/no sugar diet. I can not believe how good I feel everyday. It is truly amazing. The thrush that I have had on my tongue for 10 years is finally beginning to break up. I almost cant believe it! I dont take naps during the afternoons anymore. I can eat three meals a day and dont have one tiny bit of IBS or cramping or pain after I eat. My mom has not had any problems with her intestines either, and its been a month for her. I know people here have spoken badly about Jordan Rubin, but I can say with all honesty that my life has completely turned around, I feel like my old self again. I even look better! My face is colored and not pastey white, my hair is stronger and firmer, i can sleep at night and not wake up with abdominal pain, i could go on and on. but i wanted to take just a few minutes to update my last entry and let other people know that my mom and I are still doing great and actually getting better every day. it feels like a miracle. if you have acid reflux, gastritus, stomach ulcers, or other gastro-intestinal problems PLEASE do your research and read about pro-biotics - they could change your life and be the answer you have been looking for. Dont give up. Dont trust everything you read and dont just buy any product. consult a nutritionist and also try talking with your doctor about it. Its not hippie medicine, i am living proof that these things work. Good luck to you Tina! I am glad you are doing better too!! isnt it amazing to be getting your life back?!?! after EVERYTHING else failed?

jordan rubin is not forthcoming about the truth it seems.
if he truly was so concerned and religious, he wouldn't advocate the eating of meat and thus the killing of animals.

oh, and GO JOE!
men made money, so it is pointless to argue the root
of all evil crap, humans are evil, or can be, and anything they make can be, so love or hate of money
doesn't matter, but many are not at the place where
they *get it* yet, so Joe, my apologies to those ignorant of it all.

I read the book and I am more than happy to recommend it to my family and friends- it combined praying and lifestyle together. The thing that will put people will be the references to God but without God, you cannot live a healthy life.

I can only tell you that it works. It simply works! I lost almost 100 pounds, and have kept it off for 1 year now. I followed the book, and I am now in excellent health.

I have read "Patient, Heal Thyself" and "The Maker's Diet" There is good info in both, but I still prefer Dr. Andrew Weil's book "Optimal Health" As I Christian I can appreciate the faith I read about from Jordan Rubin but even though Dr. Weil, from what I gather is not a Christian, he has the medical knowledge that backs up what he says. Both make it pretty clear that processed foods and large amounts of sugars and bad fats are bad for you. As far as the supplements' I wouldn't buy from either of them as you can find good quality supplements at your local health food store.

lol! Why do people choose to ignore people's testimonies? Are they too good to be true? Its like believing makes you weak or something...
I guess this really bothers me because i live with someone who has ulcerative colitis, and let me tell you, it can be hell. He has had it for almost 10 years and i dread the times of year when his stomach goes into a bad cycle. And what does his doctor say? "just up your meds". So we bag on this book and claim Jordan has fake credetials, but what about the ones that do have credentials? what have they done for these people? My husband is just a chart (and bill) in a million for his doctor. Nothing else.
And for those who say Jordan's book is nothing new under the sun... then why do our doctors fail to let us know and help us out? IBS is on the rise! If people have found help with this book, then it cant be all wrong.
From the comments made, it looks like the ones bagging on it are the ones who have never tried it.
