The Maker's Diet: Faker's Diet?

A series of articles at BellaOnline completely and systematically tear apart Jordan Rubin's The Maker's Diet.

While some of these points are old news, when combined together it makes interesting reading. Fake credentials, FDA bans, and apparently promoting soil organisms. I have not read the book so I cannot verify this, but this particular review seems overly negative and a bit hysterical:

If you’re not familiar with Rubin’s “miracle” ingredient, “soil organisms,” let’s bring the little buggers up into the light of day. First off, he tries to make us believe the Bible and various researchers recommend eating dirt for the soil organisms. Is this true? Of course not. But, by starting with basic facts and adding a whirlwind of fast talk, Rubin concludes 1 + 1 = 3, when it doesn’t. That’s how the art of con works.
These are all fairly strong allegations, and despite all this, The Maker's Diet is a top seller at Amazon and maintains an excellent review status of 4 stars.

I personally don't believe you need credentials to make helpful and useful contributions to people's health. The proof of the Maker's Diet will bear out in the results of the people who have followed it.

UPDATE: You can now access all the details of The Maker's Diet online (includes tools to track food, create meal plans and recipes, and a facility to get answers from author Jordan Rubin).

If he has lied about his credentials than that would hurt his credibility about being true Christian, I have no idea if he is a real doctor or not, but I think the key thing is he is quoting a lot of good common sense practice handed down to us from God Himself. I think following the dietary laws founded in the books of the Bible just makes plain sense. I am not so sure about the HSO's and what not, but remember that God did say to let the fields lay fallow for a period of time. And to also burn them, this was to reintroduce vital nutrients into the ground. No one practices this here in america anymore, so it does stand to reason that yes there are nutrients in the soil that we need, that probably are not found in the majority of our american derived food sources.

Does anyone have any proof that he is not a real doctor?

I just found www.quackwatch.org. Seems to have a lot of information. I looked up Jordan Rubin and seems that his degrees and certifications were not made up, maybe not the best sources but at least he didn't lie about them. Fact is people is that it is faith that heals people, Jordan has always said that it was his faith that kept him going, faith that he believes led him to whole foods. God says, in Mark 11: 24 "Therefore I say to you, all thinks for which you PRAY and ASK, BELIEVE that you have recieved them, and they will be granted you." Also, "if you abide in me, and my word abides in you then you can ask anything and I will do it." Cannot remember book or verse of last one, I will find and repost. Key thing is if we draw near to God by doing what we know is right then He will heal us by Faith. Sadly most people do not draw near enough to God or have a geniune faith.

For years now i'ce struggled with my weight and after i had my second baby last year, i knew i had to lose weight. i was 13kg from what i wanted to weigh and so i decided to go on the Maker's Diet. My husband joined me and for the first time in a long time, i lost weight by eating right and exercising. Lets not get hung up on the fact that it say's 'diet. To me, its a lifestyle change - wholegrains, organic - what could be better. My husband who'd had bowel problems from his teenage years now has daily movements - who wouldn't be converted. I think once you have the revelation and thats what Jordan has and tries to help us with, its easy to eat right. God bless

I have read The Maker's Diet and decided it was a waste of money and time. We all know that unprocesssed foods are the best for all of us. That is nothing new-as the writer would like us to believe. What I am more concerned about is the fact that Christians are going to look like absolute idiots and be put into danger if they follow the advice in The Maker's Diet. I worry that Christian parents will unknowingly put their children in great danger by not having them immunized. That, along with some other ridiculous advice, is proposed in the book in the chapter titled "How to Make Yourself Sick." I am fully aware of the dangers with immunizations and autism, but there are ways to get around that. Please be careful with what you do to yourself and your children.

I just read the book, and was very disapointed. The diet itself looks fine, and is nothing amazing or new. What I didn't enjoy was the contradiction between all you need to do is eat whole foods God's way, but you do also need "special" supplements that only I can sell you. Whole foods are expensive enough without spending $300 plus for me and my wife to take his supplements for a month. You can get comparable whole foods based vitamins at a cheaper price. It is funny how similar his vitamin regimans are to others, even though he reams other vitamins as being a recipe for sickness. One I found particularly amusing was how God didn't mean for us to take 20,000% of our daily supply of vitamin C (Most supplements do not have that much). His supplements have 1667% wich is much closer to the norm for vitamin supplements. I definately noticed the lack of quality referencing (often to qualificationless people's books), and the all to familiar scare tactics of such books...your gonna die a horrible death...unless you give me hundreds of dollars a month starting immediately. being a Christian I was happy to borrow the book from a friend, but was very dissapointed by the end.

Reading all of this is very nteresting. I have been on the makers diest for 7 weeks now. I can tell an extreme difference in energy. I dont have any serious health problems such as a clinical disease. All these comments though make me curious.

For any who say there is nothing new about the information he says in his book. What does that matter. I can tell you for fact that his book along with others are the reason of the major organic upswing. Grocery stores are now beginning to stock and sell organic foods that were not before such as Wal-Mart, Albertsons, and many others. This is outstanding progress. I have been doing alot of reasearch on different "health products" people reccomend. However when really reading the articles clipped here to discredit the diet they are really ignorant and bias.

I know 4 different people now including myself on this diet. Some are strictly 100% on it. Where as myself and my mother have mild changes. We take different vitamins and we take Liquid coloidal minerals. We have been taking both the vitamins we take and minerals for years now. They make a large difference but the full change to organic and his suppliment "super seed" have really made a noticeable difference.

In my 7 weeks i have done my own little version of testing of his supplment super seed. I noticed this huge energy boost immediatly from the change. So i stopped taking it for a week and wasnt as energetic. I still had enough energy for the day but i could notice a actual difference. My mother takes the supplment "perfect food" and says she can tell a large difference with it. I couldnt get myself to down it consistantly so i call it the puke drink and dont take it.

When i was 15 i had my appendix taken out. From 14-15 i had appendicitis 4x in a 1 year stretch. The 4th time they finally said it needs to be taken out. Well my body said it mostly. As i was rushed to the hospital with expected an hour before it exploded. In this 1 year period i was on so many antibiotics these doctors messed up my immune system. It affected me with colds flus always weak from things. It has been that way til started changing my diet. The most improvment has come from the makers diet. For people who do similar things. I say good on you. If it is different but works that is awesome.

The fact is books like these and the information in them can prevent people from living the 20 years avg of being classified a vegetable or unable to live with out others care. Becasuse that is what the longer life we Americans have. The FDA has allowed us to live 20 years as a vegetable to up the avg american lifespan. Doesnt it make you feel proud?

If any of you really care about what you say do some research on mountain tribes. Such as the tittycaca(sp) tribe in south america. They have been recorded to living up to over 300 years and expected many over 500 years old. It is creditied to living off herbs and natural foods. It also highly credited to there highly mineral water from the mountains. Compare the avg life of 300 years with no cancer no crohns disease no diabetes to avg lifespan now. Lifespan might be up but years of being healthy are going down.

Books like these that are lifestyle changes and show you ways to put better things in your body are truly what the world needs. As others have said. Try it before disbelieving in it. Talk to real people who use it. Face to face. My girlfiend has crohns disease and refuses to try this saying he is just out for a buck. Which may be but it works and its well supported by many people of multiple things he suggests. Being original or not means less to me than getting the word out for people to switch to things such as organic foods and cutting out sugars and white flower. So to you nay sayers i say try it and post your results because mine have been great.

Thank you for sharing your open minded views. I am reading the book now. I really don't care if there are a thousand books that say the same thing before he said it. It does not make the message wrong. I have read some of them, so what. I often read the same book twice or at least refer back to it. Does the second reading discredit the first reading?

My 16-year-old son Jonathan suffered from Crohn's disease so bad that last year the doctors did not expect him to live. He was down to 80 pounds and spent more than 65 days in the hospital. We were so afraid we were going to lose him because nothing the doctors prescribed ever helped him. I saw a show on The Maker's Diet on TV and felt like I was looking at my son when I saw Jordan's picture when he had Crohn's really bad. We were desperate and thought "why not try it?" There is really nothing strange or bizarre about getting back to basics and eating whole foods and organic foods. Most of the foods were not even that hard to get, and what I couldn't find in the store (such as some of the raw dairy products) I found by searching for a local dairy farmer. In just a few days, my son felt noticeably better! In several weeks, he was gaining weight, in much better spirits and was ready to go back to school. He didn't get better instantly, but we stuck with the diet and watched a miracle happen over the next few months. A local TV station came out to do a story about my son, and of course they were very skeptical. But then they interviewed my son's doctor, and he had to admit that whatever we were doing, it had completely reversed Jonathan's health! Lots of people saw the story and started calling us for information about how they could help their children or family members with Crohn's and other digestive disorders. I have been happy to talk with them. I would recommend this diet to anyone. And as for the supplements, Jonathan improved tremendously on the one that everyone keeps criticizing as dirt.. it is called Primal Defense and we will never be without it again! And to Crystal, who says she once worked for the company, I checked on this when I called to thank the people at Garden of Life for saving my son's life. I was thanking them and telling them that they might want to be aware of these negative comments and they said it was unfortunate but there is no record of anyone named Crystal ever working there. They were also kind enough to connect me to Jordan Rubin, and he was so touched by our story that he said we could have the supplements free as long as we wanted by placing a monthly order. He also said to keep him posted on Jonathan's progress. So to anyone slinging mud about Jordan and his true intentions or his so-called false credentials or his "bad" supplements, it is too bad you have not had the chance to talk to him. Our family is forever blessed by his health message and as Christians we realize he will always have people attacking him. But the proof is in the pudding, and since my son's life has been saved, I have personally talked to about 20 other families about this program and they are all reaping the benefits as well. All I can say is that if you're sick and getting sicker from going to the doctor and getting no relief, this is the way to go, and maybe you won't believe it until it works for you.

I have been on the "Faker's Diet" as she so calls it and it does work. I will take what God made for food over any research. The research doesn't mean a lot to me since 20 years down the road they decide what use to be good for you will cause cancer. I want natural God made food not fake food filled with poison.

Joyce I was truly inspired by your post. It is so sad that people are so quick to believe the negative and not all of the positive benefits that the Maker's Diet has to offer. I have read the book and was truly blessed by the message and inspired by Jordan Rubin's story. I challenge all of the Doubting Thomas' out there to give it a try...I guarantee that you will be changed. One thing I am curious to know is does Atkins, Weight Watcher's or Jenny Craig get slammed for selling their products? Something to think about...

I just wanted to say, I am thinking of trying the Maker's Diet...although eating organically and avoiding unnatural foods will be quite expensive. I am no gardener or I'd grow the food myself.
My point to make is about the soil organisms, and the dirt theory. From what I gather, it is said to be okay to eat dirt to obtain the organisms...am I right? I can't imagine eating dirt, but I do remember my childhood doctor telling my mother that if I ate dirt it would not harm me. Apparently I had done just that, but he said that it would create antibodies for me. He was from Taiwan, and rarely prescribed medicine when I was young. I am a pretty healthy girl, no serious illnesses so far at 24 yrs of age, and rarely even sick enough to call into work. I wonder if there is a connection...

One thing of Jordan Rubin's testimony that caught my eye was this: he claims to have grown up in a home that was already well established in the ways of eating "healthy" along the lines of "organic" this, "macrobiotic" that, soy milk, tofu, natural whole grains, etc., and yet -despite family eating habits already largely in line with his current book- he came down with Crohn's disease, a digestive disorder. Hmmm.

IF Rubin's recovery testifies FOR his present dietary thesis,
THEN Rubin's coming down with Crohn's Disease testifies AGAINST the dietary regimen of his childhood - similarities notwithstanding.

Just to clarify he attributes getting Chrohn's Disease to a poor college diet; and possibly to a measles immunization given at the college. He also points out that his parent followed every new "health" trend out there; and does not actually support all of these trends.

Insofar as the Bible angle is concerned, everyone should keep in mind how the New Testament teachings about food supercede the Old. Notice from the verses below how God has declared in the New Testament foods to be "clean" that were declared "unclean" in the Old Testament:

Mark 7:18-19
"Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19 For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")

Acts 11:4-10
4 Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: 5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.'

8 "I replied, 'Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'

9 "The voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.'
.
.
1 Timothy 4:3-5
3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
.
.
.
Whether or not Jordan Rubin's dietary advice holds up to medical scrutiny, I am not comfortable with the Bible angle employed to market it.

Hi John,
I realize it's difficult to keep verses in context without writing an essay, but it disturbs me that these verses are used as excuses to eat what we want.

Mark 7:18-19
"Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19 For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")

**What you have here in parentheses was added to later translations (if your Bible has this extra, it probably tells you it was an addition at the bottom). The context of this conversation was on rabbinical handwashing--not food.

**If you read this you will see that Peter did not eat and--he didn't know what this vision meant. Later he realized it was about people--Gentiles--not food.

**Swine, Shellfish, etc are not "food" they are animals that are declared not to be eaten.

I recommend the Book "holy cow! does G-d care what we eat?" to everyone who eats (guffaw). Christians, realize that I do not see this as a salvation issue but an issue that G-d cares for us about and a small facet of biblical living.

Respectfully submitted,
Diana

I don't remeber anything about flouride, chlorine, or processed food in the New Testament.

BTW, Flouride and Chlorine, while naturally-occuring in nature, is NOT natural in our food and/or water.

Please...think about things before trying to ascribe Scripture...it's called DISCERNMENT....

I have to say, if someone is going to use a third party to try and convince me to not use any natural health supplement or diet, they are gonna have to come up with something better than the FDA. I suggest people do some honest research about the FDA for a good case study in corruption. FDA lawsuits? Harumph!!!

On July 20th, the Union of Concerned Scientists published the results of a survey of just under 1,000 doctors who work for the FDA. The results were disturbing:

Almost one in five (18 percent) responded, "I have been asked, for non-scientific reasons, to inappropriately exclude or alter technical information or my conclusions in an FDA scientific document."
More than three in five (61 percent) knew of cases in which "Department of Health and Human Services or FDA political appointees have inappropriately injected themselves into FDA determinations or actions."
Three in five (60 percent) also knew of cases "where commercial interests have inappropriately induced or attempted to induce the reversal, withdrawal or modification of FDA determinations or actions."
Fifty percent also felt that non-governmental interests (such as advocacy groups) had induced or attempted to induce such changes.
Less than half of them (49 percent) agreed that "FDA leadership is as committed to product safety as it is to bringing products to the market."
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! To see all of the profoundly disturbing results check out the complete survey. http://www.ucsusa.org/assets/documents/scientific_integrity/FDA-Survey-Brochure.pdf

I also suggest you read the following study conducted at The Goldberg Clinic in Marietta, Georgia by Paul A. Goldberg MPH, DC, a private practitioner and Professor of Gastroenterology and Public Health at Life Chiropractic College, who actually ran tests on Garden of Life products.

You can find the article at: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_2002_Nov/ai_93736412/pg_1

I am continually amazed by the number of people who write negative reviews about holistic and natural health remedies that always try to represent themselves as "guards of the truth about health." It smells like intellectual elitism, doesn't it?

Well, instead of wasting my time challenging willful ignorance, I will just encourage all of the SINCERE people out there who are trying to improve their quality of life by learning how to eat a substantially better, and supplemented diet to ignore all of the negativism. There are always people who are going to jump on the negative bandwagon who really have no substantive content.

I can't tell you the number of good companies that have fallen prey to these type of people. They seem to get a thrill out of trashing companies that are becoming successful, and are getting results from their products, while they themselves cannot come up with any documented evidence to support their claims of fraud. They either gullibly side with the self serving FDA that lives in the pockets of the pharmeceutical companies, or they just hyothesize using an incomplete reasoning process, and making broad leaps of conjecture by mentally connecting unlinked dots of information. Their entire platform of debate is one of cynacism, mistrust and fear. After all, don't you know that everyone out there is just out to get you and your money?

That's not to say that there aren't substandard products and companies out there, because there are without a doubt. Just do your research though, and you'll find the best ones out there, they will rise to the top...if you do your research. There are many good companies, and many good nutritional supplements out there.

All of the evidence that I have seen shows that Garden of Life offers a quality product. However, I don't need GOL to prove to me that all natural products like the ones GOL recommends, and yes even sells, or that natural all organic eating will improve my overall health. I have my own experience that's already done that, and I certainly don't need the "truth detectives" or the very weak FDA to approve that before it is true, and neither do you!

I will say this, I doubt very seriously that Jordan Rubins objective in writing the book was to set forth a scientific journal on the issues. If he had, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Dr. Atkins did site many scientific studies to back up his claims, but he was still black balled by the "medical community" because he went against conventional medicines conventional wisdom.

Basically, they felt personally attacked by Atkins, because they would have had to admit they were wrong about many things for many years, hey it ain't gonna happen. So they began a concentrated campaign to discredit him, his diet, and his studies. I have even talked to several doctors about Atkins, and you would be amazed at the number of times he and his book were grossly misquoted, and misrepresented. One was even belligerent against Atkins. Nothing is different here with Rubins.

Rubins could have sited study after study, and these same people would still seek to discredit him. It wouldn't have made a hill of beans worth of difference. They have their bias, and no matter what is said they aren't gonna admit their wrong about anything. If, he had sited the studies, they would have attacked the validity of the studies, or something else to justify the status quo.

Like I said, just ignore them, because the proof is in your body, not their intellectually and emotionally dishonest brains. If these people want to attack a big bad company for taking advantage of the sick and the elderly, I strongly suggest they focus their efforts on the pharmeceutical companies, they'll have a lot more ammunition to fire, I assure them, if they just do their research!

If, you guardians of truth out there think a little guy like Jordan Rubins is out to rob the masses, boy you really do need to take a look at the drug companies, and you'll really learn something about fleecing the masses. Open your eyes man, if you dare! (Eyes wide shut?)

I gotta go!

I was skeptical at first as well. I changed my lifestyle and did the makers diet, i bought only the Homeostatic organism. I stopped taking all other supplements, and stopped eating junk food for about 2 months.

I gained more energy than I had in nearly 8 years. I lost some weight and was actually springing out of bed in the morning. My joint pains vanished. My headaches vanished. My stomach aches vanished.

Then after some unfortunate events, I went off the lifestyle change..boy was that a huge mistake..all my previous symptoms came back..even worse than before.

Most mornings my feet hurt so bad it takes a few minutes to stand up.. I had lost feeling in both legs and arms for nearly 2 months..(aspartime posioning. It in nearly all packaged foods.)

I have finally begun the road back to the lifestyle change of organic foods and doing the makers diet.. this time for life.

I have also brought a new friend along, since she suffered two heart attacks and was recently diagnosed with Lou Gerighs disease. (which is actually symptoms of Aspartime poisoning. She ate high amounts of packaged foods, soda and juices. She can barely walk right now. they said she has only about 3-5 years left to live. but I told her, if we change her diet, she will probably outlive all of us. She is embracing the makers diet. I know it will work. If you stop eating poison, your body can heal itself.

I have read most of the Maker's Diet and absolutely agree that we should eat organic, wholesome foods and do what we can to avoid toxins and poisons in the environment. It really is a shame that today's modern civilization should really be what I call "The Lazy Man's Civilization". It's true. We're lazy. We want soemone else to do all the work for us. Package our foods, prepare our foods, drive everywhere we go and pollute our environment, use harsh pesticides to simplify farming, use the cheapest and hazordous chemicals in our cleaning and personal care products......everything Jordan talks about in his chapter about "How to Make Yourself Sick" is absolutley true. We are living in a society that is self destructing. The government doesn't highly regulate or much less know everything that goes in our food or products or environment...but it IS those things that are making us unhealthy and causing cancer.
I am not an extreme environmentalist - I'm not out recycling everything and I'm not yet buying organically because it is out of our budget. But I strongly believe that our nation's environment stinks and that our nation is very very lazy. I'm not talking about EVERYBODY....there are the health-conscious...but as a NATION we are lazy. We are accepting that all these unhealthy toxins in our environment is okay...whether it's the trans-fats in the French Fries or the formaldehyde in the carpet in our living room...we're accepting that manufacturers can put these chemicals in our lives and put our health at risk everyday.
I probably won't live to see it but I do pray that one day there will be an overall movement in society where no longer is 'convenience' put before health. Where the governemnd and manufacturers and consumers will decide is this healthier or is it more convenient? Bleach, phosphates, ammonia, trans-fats, hyrdorgenated oils, etc will be forbidden in the marketplace.

But as far as all these comments go on the book anyway...I believe that Jordan has some incredible points to make...whether his credentials are fake or real, whether he is really a Christain or not....what he has written is true. I am a Christain myself and struggle with understanding some of his Biblical references but I believe the Lord has showed me the way to this diet. The Maker's Diet makes sense to me......so for any of you who are out there arguing that it is FAKE then it makes me wonder if it's simply because you don't have Faith in God or could it be that you don't want to accept that maybe you need to change..that an organic, whole-food ritualistic lifestyle is too demanding for you in your fast-paced lifestyle? Are you accepting that you'll settle for convenience over a pure regimen for health?

I have not read Maker's Mark but I will say that if you read Leviticus and see what our Heavenly Father says to the Israelites about the foods to eat and not to eat and then apply scientific applications to these you will find that God did this to protect His people from "all these diseases". He has told us what foods to eat to stay healthy and we, as Americans today would save ourselves alot of grief and a lot of money by applying these same principles. Eat only what God made for us to eat. Forget about processed foods, junk foods and stick to the natural.......that includes butter and NOT butter. Do yourself a HUGE favor...try God's diet. You will be amazed and pleased. Also, if you work for the health insurance industry, and you want to help lower your costs, then somehow incorporate these teachings and you too will see a healthy America. God Bless America.

John,

Jordan stated he came down with Chron's disease in COLLEGE, not when he was a kid. Chances are, Chron's is a genetic weakness, and a poor college diet of pizza, beer, cokes, high-carb snacks, etc pushed him over the edge.

In reference to your NT quotes, those are stating that eating "unclean" food does not defile us towards God - that eating such foods is not a sin. It does, however, wreck havock on the body. I've known a number of people that have gotten food poisoning from oysters and shrimp.

I was going to start this diet today, and even go to the Vitamin Shoppe and pick up the supplements. After reading the pros and cons through the various comments above, I'm utterly confused as whether to go ahead with the diet, spend the money on the supplements, or just try to eat healthier without the supplements.

I am interested in trying this diet having read the book but was also very interesed in hearing where Rubin sourced his information, thanks to Madeline and others. I also have a book in my book shelf called 'Foods From the Bible' which shows modern science backs up the healthful biblical foods.

I had recently checked out Rubin's website and was shocked at his prices in $US for his supplements, especially when you are required to take about 6 tabs a day! I will definitely check out the book 'Nourishing Traditions' and 'The Omega Diet'. It is shameful that Mr Rubin is not 'biblical' with regards to his business dealings (if the above accusations are true). Anyone can call themself a 'Christian' but the bible simply tells us 'You will know them by their fruits'. Also 'The love of money is the root of all evil'. Let's keep in mind though, that the pharmacuitical companies who also own the fertilizer and pesticide companies make Rubin's big bucks look like a kid's piggy bank, and they are making us sicker, not healthier!

I don't have any problem with the soil organism theory so far. It is well known that pesticides kill off the healthful organisms in the soil and traces of them are no longer found on our foods, as they would be if you grew the food in a 'certified organic' method. Once you have been on a course of antibiotics you have destroyed your balance of intestinal flora (if you had a good balance to start with that is, most people don't these days). Same goes for pasturising our milk and our modern yogurts which are of little value to our internal flora. Pasturisation has long been shown to be of more detriment than value. It makes the calcium difficult to absorb, if at all. That's why university studies show when you increase your milk intake that you actually urinate out more calcium than you are taking in. Hence our modern phenomina...Osteoperosis. Idealistically...buy your own cow or goat and milk it!

A friend of mine has just started her 5 year old daughter on a pro-biotic formula available at misecret.mionegroup.com and has had great sucess, her daughter is almost free of a very bad case of eszma. She had already implemented daily juicing and making healthy dietry changes with little results prior to trying the probiotic.

I am sure there are other good suplements out there without having to purchase Rubin's expensive ones. Raw green grass powders have long been known to improve health and are sold by many companies.

It's a shame that some good advice has been peddled using some ungodly ethics.

Yes, I do think that 'The Maker's Diet' is definitly worth doing and adapting as a long term diet to prevent some of the diseases.

There are also a number of differences b/w Rubin's childhood diet and his diet that he promotes that have not been mentioned. As a child he consumed soy milk and burgers etc, which inhibit the enzyms to digest nutrients, which he does not recommend in his book. Another is that he didn't eat unpasturised, fresh, raw milk or by-products as a child and he recommends them in his book. And there are probably other differences too that I cannot think of.

The book explains a lot of things that could be sourced from other places and bundles them up together. It is better to eat organic etc. Juicing is good for you. Raw food is good for you etc.

I will definitly do the diet, it backs up what I have already researched from many other sources.

I have had asthma for most of my life, and noticed it was bothering me more than usual the past few months, especially during my work outs. I have been following this diet for more than a year and a half now, although have been making compromises with dairy.

I can't really pick up any raw milk from HEB, afterall! (they are starting to sell raw, organic cheeses though).

Anyway, I started noticing a parallel between my breathing problems and the "organic" yogurt / cream / 1/2 & 1/2 i was consuming. I cut out all a few weeks ago, and noticed a reduction in allergy symptoms and much easier time breathing in the mornings and during my workout.

I doubted some of the stuff on mercola.com, and his views on dairy was one of them. but, i figured what's a few weeks without dairy going to hurt. And it worked.

I started the "Maker's Diet" in 1983 when I first discovered it reading the Bible. I have NOT bought, looked at or skimmed this book so I have no idea whatsoever what it says.

All I can say is this: I follow Levitical dietary law 99% of the time and sustain myself on poulty, fish, WHOLE grains, vegetables, and fruits. I'm 38 now and have NEVER had a weight problem in my life. Ever. I'm 5'7" and weigh 120#. I have silky smooth hair, skin, and beautiful nails. I sip an occasional glass of wine (usually reds) and completely avoid fried foods.

White foods such as pastas and breads are consumed in serious moderation because I just seem to have difficulty digesting them (i.e. they don't MOVE once they land in my stomach and form a hard ball that hurts). I might have a burger or a steak once a year.

Pork and fried foods are just taboo.

In 1983 organic was not an option. I choose it now when it's available at the market but I don't fret if there are no organic kumquats available.

Basically, I just try to find foods in their natural form, before the manufacturers get ahold of it and turn the wheat and cane into something they call a twinkie with a shelf life of 200 years. G-d didn't make twinkies so I choose not to eat it. This doesn't mean I don't allow myself indulgences every now and then. It's just 99% of the time I'm trying to make good choices about my lifestyle.

I have LOW blood pressure and low cholesterol. And although my hip bones spread a little because of puberity, I can still button my 501 Levi jeans I wore my senior year of high school when I was 17. I wear a size 3 junior Levi today. How many people chasing 40 can say that? And don't say it's my genes--every female in my family and extended family weighs over 200# or is close to it and most have serious health issues: CHF, diabetes, HTN, high BP, etc.

I got my "diet" straight from the Maker Himself. But kudos to whomever this guy is for bringing it to light for millions of people. But they could have saved themselves $20 if they'd only read Leviticus.

Thanks be to G-d for showing it to me at 15 and allowing me the wisdom at that age to know there was something to it.

My husband had athletes foot and tried every kind of topical medication he could find to get rid of it. He even went to the doctor to seek treatment for it because it would not go away. The doctor prescribed another antifungal cream for him and to no surprise it still did not go away. I realized he was getting pretty frustrated with this problem (he has to wear steel toed shoes at work everyday). So I looked around for something for him at the local stores. I then decided to go to a nearby health food store and saw a product called "Fungal Defense" on the shelf. I asked him to try the product just to see if it would work on him, since nothing else did. He took this product every day and to our surprise by the third day the redness was starting to lighten and after about ten days his athletes foot completely went away! We were both amazed that it worked so fast and that somthing taken internally would actually help externally (no creams were used when he was on the tablets!) I was so happy that an alternative therapy actually showed good results that I decided to find out more about this so called "Garden of Life" stuff. I went on line and found out about a book he had written and ordered it. There seems to be a lot of good information in this book. I am not completely done with it, but am sure glad I found out about it.

I have heard a lot of bashing going on about the HSO's in his probiotic supplement. So I called the 1-800 about their probiotic product to ask if they could tell me more about this soil based organizm. She said it was the enzyme from the organizm not the organizm itself. I have heard pros and cons about this product. Is there anyone out there that has used this probiotic for a couple of years or so that can let us know how they are doing on it? I think this would help a lot of people decide if they would want to try it or not.

I am currently using the "Perfect Food" green drink and have found it to be very beneficial for my skin as well as feeling more energy. The whites of my eyes seem to be more clear and bright as well. I used to break out a bit and no longer have this problem.

So far, I have gotten great results from the products that I have bought so far.

I guess, you will find out if you try it for yourself.

lying about credentials still doesn't make it right, although I agree you may not require them to be knowledgeable on diet, etc. we know many physicians are
not well trained in nutrition. having said that, he is
a faker. and how does anyone know who ate what in biblical times. well, if he does, he has much of it wrong. even Pythagoras was vegetarian. not only that, tying in religion to sell
and market your products is simply sick and dispicable,
and takes advantage of the elderly, ill, and impressionable. i wonder if you will hold this for moderation.

I first heard of the Maker's Diet through while listening to part of (a very small part of) Jordan's testimony on James Robison well over a year ago. I wrote the title of the book down on a piece of paper and then 'who knows what happened to it?' I've always believed that the foods we eat are not the 'best' for us but wasn't quite sure what or how to change this. I've read the scriptures through several times but somehow it just didn't register (go figure!). I have two grandchildren that are autistic (and firmly believe it is due to immunization). We live in a world that instills fear in us and so we often go along with what the 'experts' tell us. Well, I for one, am about to give this diet a try! I'm relatively healthy but things are changing. I'm not an old lady but neither am I as young as I once was (who is?) and do wish to live a long and healthy life. What do I have to lose except a few pounds that I don't need!
I'm grateful for Mr. Rubin's contribution to my library and especially thankful to GOD that I was able to find the book.

As an aging person still seeking for "perfect health" (Deepak Chopra), I read every single comment and was left with this thought. "Everyone has an opinion..most have an agenda...you can always gain some knowledge from unlikely sources, but most of all let your instinct be your guide."

Also, thank you to whoever posted a suggested link www.mercola.com, I entered mercora.com by mistake and am now listening to wonderful tunes by Tony Bennett.

Just a quick note: I don't believe Rubin talks about religion, rather a relationship with the Maker [God].

Religion is not taught in the Bible. Religion is man made rules to get to God.

To those who question Rubin's diet plan, take a look at parts of the world were processed foods are not available [i.e. Nepal and other regions around that area]. People living in these regions around the world life a pretty long time. I would say something has to be said about that.

I'm about to start the diet and can't wait to finally change my horrible eating habits.

-0k, not that quick of a note.

The diet probably has some very good elements to it. The supplements are over-priced and apparently of questionable quality. The fact that he touts degrees from bogus institutions is a real turn off to me. I prefer the nutritional advice, writings and products from Donna Gates/ Body Ecology.

Prior to hearing Jordan Rubin speak at our church, I had began to fast which is part of what he states in his book. I had been been sick for 31/2 years, constantly on prescriptions and as soon as I was off them within 3 weeks would be back to dr and on another. I listened, bought his book and now not quite a year later, I am much better off. I have only had 1 prescription in 9 months, followed the plan, which I might say is in the Bible and is true about the foods we should eat. When I began his supplements etc there was a change I began to feel better, have more energy, I lost weight without trying. I also visited a dr (whom I thank God Jordan Rubins office referred me to him) who has along with this program gave me more supplements to take, and when I initally went to him my oxygen level was only 50%, the last time I went a month ago it was 95%. Do not knock this book and what he is doing. It is a ministry to help others overcome physical problems. Too much money is given to doctors and pharmicists who only keep us on medications and take our money and use us to get rich. This plan will along with prayer is the right. way to go. Rubins book is not really a diet but a new and healthy way to eat. The problem is people eat fast food too much and think about it, before we had all these fast food places and were home eating good meals, grew our own gardens (when we were kids) we never had the sicknesses or allergies we do now. Just think about it.

Well, I have read through the book, and I think I will try the eating plan. Before I had read all the hoo-ha listed here, I had already bought Rubin's "Perfect Cleanse", a 10 day cleansing product, I'm going to start tomorrow- but what's kindof a downer is that I practically live off of soy based products and organic skim milk--does anyone know if I can have organic horizon skim milk on this diet? So it'll be a total food change-- but I am tired of feeling like crap and continuously gaining weight. I am not a christian, but I don't have a problem with having a meditative moment every morning and evening-- I do think what is going on inside our heads influences how we feel. I'll try it and get back.

To anyone who is suffering from symptoms that are beyond traditional medical treatment should most certainly try the recommendations in Dr. Rubin's book.

If anyone does any research on healing foods and suppliments, it's quite evident that we as a people do not consume the vast majority of the necessary foods that are essential to our good health. If we look back on the ancient diets of other countries such as China for instance, there were very low cases of cancer and heart related diseases. Their diet consisted mostly of fish, vegegables and teas. Today with the advent of fast food restaurants that are poppinig up like cherry blossoms in spring, know that there is a very unhealthy, so be it, convenient way of eat. The trans fats, highly processed breads and steroids, antibiotics and growth hormones that are in these foods have contributed to the high growing number of Cardiovascular disease, Cancer and other digestive conditions that we now are facing at a never before growing rate.

In the 21st century with all the technology that is being developed, only a very small handful of companies are reaching out with research trying to discover new way to better improve our health. Because most certainly most aren't getting it from the typical convenient fast food, processed and essentially stripped from all nutrition ways that are now being serve within just minutes from us, from car to drive-up window, to back home....and dinner is served!

China today with it's fast foods growing at a rampant rate have the highest Cancer rates than it ever has seen in history. Truly the foods we eat are what we become!

Beyond the hype and beyond any politial reason that some may post on here for discrediting Dr. Rubin, in fact can not deny the benefits of eating foods without toxic chemicals, antibiotics, growth hormones, high sugar content, and, without any nutritional value which is found in the typcial diet of most Americans.

If you can get past the negative comments and do your own research into this such as I have done, you will discover a way to begin to heal as I have and hopefully find that using his practical ways to cure and/or help eleviate any ailments that you may have. I urge anyone who is suffering the ravenges of an illness to give this a try and see how it will benefit you. If you've tried it all and failed, you now have nothing to lose and everything to gain....which is your life!

I wish you luck in your journey in finding the way back to good health!!

God Bless you

To the author of this page, what on earth is there that you don't understand about soil organism? I encourage you to do your research before writing such misinformation, even if it is on the world wide web. Traditional people all over the world have eaten soil for millenia, both unconsciously as in eating vegetables straight from the earth, and consciously along with food. This has long been known to facilitate digestion and eliminate any danger of food poisoning. And as anyone familiar with simple principles of biology, all living species function and thrive in symbiosis with other species. In a less civilized and sanitized world, such as the one we lived in for most of human history, humans live/ed surrounded by dirt--living in a hut for example, you would find it difficult to escape dirt. There is nothing surprising about all sorts of bacteria colonizing our bodies, intestinal tract included. Just like acidophilus et al. help maintain a healthy stomach, so do soil organisms help maintain a healthy colon. And no, Rubin is not the only one out there who is talking about it.
Of course there are deadly microbes, but far more of these tiny creatures are beneficial to our survival and in fact, we would soon persih if we managed to wipe out all the microbes that live on and inside our bodies. Humans, just like other species on our earth, have instincts that are usually very reliable to alert us to potentially harmful substances, through smell, taste etc. It's been a long practice in many many cultures to consume lacto-fermented vegetables, dairy, meat, fruits etc, that have helped us maintain excellent health due to the presence of friendly microbes, and in a well fermented product, no harmful bacteria may grow.
I think we have a lot to learn yet about beneficial microbes and how they help to maintain good health and protect us against deadly microbes.

We recently started changing over to the maker's diet. We don't follow all the supplements (altough we already did some)and hygiene. But we do grow our own veggies, eat grass-fed beef, and free-range poultry. I have also started getting rid of all of the chemical-laden cleaners and changed to more natural cleaners. I think for the health of my 5 children this is what is best. My husband has lost 12 pounds in 20 days and I have started seeing a change in the attention span of my oldest. Whether he is fake or not doesn't matter to me. What matters is that we follow a healthy diet for my family and that we avoid all the chemicals and hormones that are so present in our society today.

I have read the book, and my husband and I started the 40 day experience but had a hard time (probably because I was gung-ho and he-- not so much). So we decided to work together and set a date to try again. We are young but carb-addicts and "normal" although I know in the pit of my stomach "normal" just isn't right. We are tierd and I struggle in several health issues.

I LOVE the idea of following a plan that would help our bodies become "as God designed them". But when doing more research i have grown a bit confused and yes, being young our budget does not allow so many supplements which makes me frusterated at best.

I have enjoyed reading through all of these oppinions and "research" and it has helped me wrestle through my worries, frusterations, and confustion...

It is a balance. I am the only one who can be responsible for my own health and the use of my own hard earned money and I believe how we respect our temple (our body) is the hardest challenge. Balanced health is priceless.

If you are as eager and earnest in your quest for health as I am-- strive for balance. Read what you need to read, do what you need to do, find the support where you need to find the support (both in fellowship with people and in supplements)and remember that YOU are the only one that can be responsible for YOU!

The Maker's Diet takes an otherwise "confusing book" (at least when it comes to dietary guidelines) and shines some interesting suggestions. Some I knew before (like eating organic) and others not so much. I still am just a little bit upset why it is so expensive.

I may post in the future about the balance that I struck between the Maker's Diet and other common sense. Good luck on your journey!

I have been using Primal Defense for years now. I use to have IBS [irritable bowl syndrome] with severe abdominal pain. Muscle spasms were apart of my IBS along with nausea, light-headedness and other symptoms. My doctor(s) tried different medications that ony were intended to help ease the abdominal pain, and none worked for me. My life was centered around this disease until I disovered Primal Defense. I was a skeptic at first, but when I committed to using this product I was truly ASTONISHED that it worked. "Something NATURAL was working over anything else?" I am IBS free today with the help of this wonderful product known as Primal Defense.

I just finished reading the makers diet. I'm not a dieter or a pill popper. The first few pages of the book are devoted to the author's testimonial. What struck me was his description of his condition. I recognized his disease as Crohn's disease as my son was diagnosed with Crohn's almost 20 years ago. My son changed his diet when he was 20 to a diet that almost matches the Maker's diet verbatim. He's gone from a 120 lb. 16 year old to a 195 lb, muscular 26 year old. So I know this diet or a very similar diet works. I'm somewhat turned off by the "join" mentality of Rubin's web site. I don't need coaching and I can make my own choices without reinforcement. I have not researched all Rubin's claims but I intend to before I pass judgement.

I can't resist! I have got to post some comments as well. My name is Matt Law and at the age of 30, I was stricken with type 2 diabetes. I was sick and unhealthy! I read Rubin's book and am changing my diet.

I believe what he has to say makes sense and I am already feeling better and my blood sugar is falling into where it should be!

However, I want to bring up one point. Many of you are reading this information are believers. I am also a believer. My point is this, if Jordan is so passionate about health and wellness, why the heck do his "magic pills" cost as much as crack cocain?

I am in business myself and own a company. But to think that pulling some mushrooms and then putting them into capsuls and selling them for $65.00 is Godly, is garbage! I don't care if they do make you feel better! My church is small about 150 people. I am the part time associate pastor there. I agreed that the people should eat healthy. When I saw how much the food costs and how much his Jordan's Magic pills costs it really ripped me! Half the people in my church could never afford to spend $400.00 per month on supliments.

In closing, I don't remember Adam and Eve taking pills! If Jordan is so passionate about making us all so healthy, why doesn't he cut his prices! In my opinion, he is about the $$$$... and he uses his books to push it. There is nothing wrong with him selling supliments. The problem is that he made 45 million from just selling 4 suppliments... Believers, beware! God is able to keep you in health without spending all that money on pills.

Just my thoughts! God bless!

I have been on "The Makers Diet" for about 3 months and the proof is there, I have lost a total of 41 lbs and I have never felt better. Joint pain gone, blood sugar levels have dropped 50 + points and the numbers are steadily dropping. I believe that there are going to be the naysayers out there that want to have references and etc. but if you read the bible you would find all the proof you need, after all, who knows the human body better than our Creator. Amen?
