Celebrity Diets: Maple Syrup?

Sugarshock Blog points to a feature in People. The photographic article documents the (apparent) dietary regimes of various female celebrities. The article contains some absolute gems such as Red Eye star Rachel McAdams: '...her love for sugar helps keep her thin. "I drink maple syrup," she admits. "Then I'm hyper so I just run around like crazy and work it all off."'

These comments upset the author of the Sugar Shock Blog so much that she published her own press release.

I didn't think anyone took these celebrity diet stories seriously. Drinking maple syrup? I think we have more serious issues with our young - such as a culture of binge drinking and drug abuse. Still, drinking maple syrup is extreme as far as foolhardy food choices go.

Other interesting quotes are Kate Hudson who stars in movie Skeleton Key.

After gaining 60 lbs. while pregnant with 19-month-old son Ryder, Kate Hudson lost the weight “pretty fast" by relying on a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet that was high in protein and low in carbs – and doing three-hour daily workouts
3 hour workouts - daily... Someone has a lot of time on their hands!

Lemon Detox

The maple syrup idea comes from the lemon detox, many famous celebrities take part in this detox. The syrup is not meant to be maple syrup, but "madal balm" tree syrup, which is close.

The syrup is mixed in a ratio with other ingredients including; water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and sea salt.

This detox cleanses your liver ad releases toxins as a result. The lemon detox is linked to rapid weight loss, with some people eporting they are able to lose a significant amount of weight within weeks of going on the detox.

Warning: Although some doctors even reccommend the diet to people who wish to lose weight, others believe it can harm your body.

If you do want to lose weight, just eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise daily.

Hey Guys, I've enjoyed the interesting comments about the Maple syrup & Lemon & Cayenne pepper cleanse. I'm also proud to say that I am on day three and I feel great, anytime I'm hungry I just drink a glass of the mix and it has bin doing wonders for my appetite. I have also eliminated alot of stuff, mucus and all, so I have to say it is working for me. I first saw the results of the mucus like on the 2nd day. I have also tried the salt water flush (1 quart) it was hard to swallow and I felt a little naucious but within 20 min. I was on the toilette. I am curious to see how much pounds I'll drop and I will definately keep uguys updated...:)

Well, I just started today and I over heard it at work from a friend who had a bottle of organic syrup and changed her mind about the diet since the catch was the fast.... So I volunteerd and I just drank my first glass in place of my meal. The taste is ok other than the taste of the cayenne pepper that does not seem to settle and disolve no matter how much you shake it. So when you drink it you will have the cayenne after taste per swallow. That is just the nastiest part for me but what is 10-14 days out of 365 day a year.... Its a test.... simply.....

I'll let ya know how it goes

I have tried the diet and it works.I loved the drink and got friends and family to drink it well after the diet.I continued on the weight loss track as long as I was drinking the lemonade and watching my potions even though I wasnt actively putting in any exercise time. You just walk to places that you would otherwise drive to but can be reached just as easily.Use the stairs instead of the elevator at times.........Go out dancing have fun!The process becomes less tedious and the lifestyle change happens

Thanks

Hey all!!!

I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!
It sounds extreme if cuz of the lack of variety of foods but it's worth it.

Me and my man done this properly last year for 7 days. I felt great! Waking up every morning, I felt energised, and not groggy.

I am skinny already so I only lost a couple of kilos. Even with the weekend junk I eat, I'm keeping it off by eating healthy too. It has to be a lifestyle change more than anything but you can use it to help aid you.

I am doing this second time around with my man (again) but this time my mum and my brother joined us. They will be doing it for 10 days and so will I, but I'm not doing it properly as my bf doesn't want me to get too skinny... so every 3 days I do a full, and the days in between I eat breakfast and lunch, and I drink the drink for dinner.

My mum says (as she tried the vegetable soup diet before) she doesn't have cravings. It's weird cus she feels satisfied without being full. I said yeah, it's hard as you don't have solids by feel but mentally you're not hungry.

My brother is finding it hard as he is 18 and a big eater. He craves foods but he's on study break so the fridge is just around.

It sucks when there's a nice food and you want to eat it.

It feels great! Couple this with light excercise (don't push yourself as you are given enough calories for the day on the drink) and it feels really good.

To answer some questions / facts:
1. Salt water - It makes you go to the bathroom almost instantly. It's because salt water doesn't get taken in by the system, so when you do go, it takes other things with you. The purpose of the detox is to cleanse the body, so you need a bowel movement at least once a day to get rid of things that have been sitting in the body for years or months. However, it's good to take a natural laxative the night before, better if it's fibre.

2. Purpose of ingridients:
Lemons - To cleanse the liver (the main purpose of the detox)
Maple & Palm Tree Syrup - To provide you with your daily energy and nutrients. These are more like supplements as you won't get your daily requirements from the Lemons alone.
Cayenne Pepper - To help metabolism. We all know that chilli or anything spicy quickens our metabolism up.
Tea/other natural laxative - To encourage bowel movement, taken at night before bed
Warm Sea Saltwater - To force bowel movement that's waiting.

3. You need to eat slowly after the detox.
First day after it, consume blended fruit juices.
Second day consume pureed vegetable soup.
Third day consume steamed vegetables.
Fourth day eat normally.
Do not get tempted to eat what you want after the detox!!!

Any questions, please post them and I'll tell you what I know (although I'm not an expert).

I've been on the diet now for 1 week and have lost 8 pounds.
If u use the diet rember it can not be pancake syrup it has to be un flavoured pure maple syrup!
If it isent the diet will not work! also to the articule, you reall have no idea do you! dont slam it intill you have tryed it.
its not lots of mayple syrup! its a tiny amount and when the water and lemon has been mixed in it is just like drinking water. its a healthy all-ternative to lipo.

There are many different variations of celebrity diets, but most involve severe restriction of carbohydrates and/or calories. Other celebrity diets may involve gimmicks, such as the consumption of specially-formulated drinks or specific combination of food. The Maple Syrup one is very interesting.

If you decide that you want to do the master cleanse, please get the little booklet. it's a short read but it has a lot of information. It gives you the recipe and tells you what to do and most importantly what not to do while you are on the cleanse. you can get the book online or at Whole Foods.

The thing that a lot of people don't know is that "Regular", "Real" maple syrup is the same as "Organic", "Real" maple syrup. The Diference is: an organic sugarbush has an official forest mangagement plan. There are some guidelines that must be followed in the way the tree's are tapped. And You can't be treating your tree's with pesticides. Most sugarers are already doing everything exactly the same as an organic producer. 100% Real Maple syrup is about as organic as it gets. Clean water, clean soil, fresh air and hard work. All things that are plentiful in the mountains where syrup is made. It is the perfect source of "all natural", "easy for the body to process"...energy. By the way, Grade A and Grade B are nutritionally the same. Grade B is just darker in color and tends to have a more "robust" maple flavor. Unless your a "dyed in the wool" "Vermonter", it is typically used for cooking, not for pancakes. There is no way I would try this diet with Aunt Jemima. It has none of the goodness of the real thing.
