Herbalife: What's The Deal?
Herbalife is one of the longest surviving MLM (Multi-level Marketing) companies around. They specialize in the weight loss sector (ShapeWorks) but also have a number of health-related brands. By all accounts Herbalife are doing very well - recently announcing a huge profit surge.
This is a huge business, with their recent 25th anniversary get-together attracting a massive 35,000 independent distributors. They have also been raising their brand profile, by entering into sponsorships with sports events - all to support their new "Liftoff" energy drink.
This business model will always raise many questions - questions that there seem to be few answers for.
- How can one determine a products efficacy if most of it's customers (and/or testimonials) are also vendors? After all that is the basic MLM model - recruiting new distributors is critical to building revenue.
- If a product is as helpful and revolutionary as the sales copy states, why is it not sold through mainstream retailers in order to help as many people as possible?
- Why the deceit? People have been approached by distributors who will not mention the word "Herbalife" up front. The products are mentioned but the sales approach is distasteful to many. However, talk to a successful distributor and they will sing the praises of Herbalife.
- Why is there no nutrition information for any of the products published on their site?
- How can any MLM company maintain ethical consistency when employing so many "independent" distributors? It is clear that some of these distributors employ dubious tactics to gather potential recruits.

All conditions are favourable to Herbalife at the moment. Half the world is overweight, products are proven over many years, great investment in the brand through sponsorships. And little competition, hundreds of supplement companies but only one in weight management in our sector. To be successful, work hard, be determined, helpful nature, good communication skills.

ReplyI lose 60 pounds on herbalife in 8 months. The stuff works, and I feel 100% better! I don't care to sell the stuff because it's too much time and effort, I just enjoy watching the pounds fall off. It does work!

ReplyI had withdrawal symptoms for about 6 to 8 months after coming off the thermojetics range. Stop using them and see how drained you feel. Very high in caffeine, and is why I suspect you feel tired when doing sports activity. Can suggest something much better. Theor products are not the vest as claimed.
Mostly my comments are to last person on page 6-02-09
If a person has paid an investment to market a product, the people that are supplying the peoduct ARE NOT "OUTSIDE SITUATIONS" they have AN OBLIGATION to supply APPROPRIATE SUPPORT
If they were really interested in people succeeding they would ??
If one is to invest money, to create a successful business all of the following factors must be in place
proven sales - records of sales of other distributors in your state are avilable to view
paid advertising support - all mediums - TV - magazines - local newspapers
control of area - guided by population in area
competatively priced products - priced less or same as products available in that state
I have just been investigatinf herbalife and cannot find any of the above factors in the "business" plan
Before commencing ask about the above points !!

I understand they don't sell it in the stores because people would abuse the use of the product, why not have a product that comes with guidance. I haven't been told that I needed to buy anything yet, just suggested what would work.
ReplyHello:
I've tried Herbalife twice. The first time was a few years ago (about 7 years ago) when my sister-in-law was selling the products (she was not charging me for the products… so why not!?!). It was important for her that before selling and connecting her name with this product she knew if it actually worked, so she tested it with different people. She provided the product for about seven of us. Well, we all lost weight, however some of us lost more than others and I think that had to do with the food choices and which meal you replaced… For example: She replaced three meals and I replaced two. She lost more weight than I did of course and I replaced breakfast and dinner, but our male friend replaced breakfast and lunch... I lost more weight than he did. Then again he would eat double my amount of food and he had to go to bed in a couple of hours (he still lost weight just not as much as I did). Everyone lost some weight. She is no longer selling the product, not b/c she does not like the product but b/c the business part of Herbalife was/is horrible. I was younger at the time so they did her wrong and I stopped buying the products… LOL
A few weeks ago two of my friends lost weight and I asked them how. They both told me they did it with Herbalife… So my husband and I decided to do it (I had to let go of my pride). It is my husband’s first time and my second. I have not weighed myself yet, but he has and he lost 7lb in one week. So I know the product works I just don’t know about the business portion and I do not want to know… Not after I saw what my sister-in-law had to deal with… that’s for sure.
Note:
ReplyI want to tell you that you should discuss it with your doctor first, especially if you have an illness like high sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. This worked for me, but I am a very healthy person...it might not work for you and your health is important some ingredients can affect the medication you are taking.
I am thinking about joining Herbalife and have already ordered the info from the company. They claim to be listed with the better business bureau and I checked and they are, rated A+. Ive noticed from these posts that all the negative site links mysteriously cannot be found anymore once you click on them. I am particularly disturbed by the comment about the dangerous levels of lead in the products. i myself am struggling with a weight problem after three kids and that was the first product area I wanted to try. Any Herbalife people willing to respond to that, from all your posts I see no direct response. I really want to this but I have been burned too many time with the home biz craze. The BBB listing gave me a boost of confidence but my other research has brought some troubling questions.
Replyhi ive been on herbalife for 5 days now and ive lost 12 pounds. my doctor took my blood pressure yesterday and it was 160 over 110 very high. i am in my early thirties i feel terrible great weight loss . did anyone else have this symtom i want to keep taking this product but i dont know if its safe
ReplyYou can take any product from Herbalife to your doctor and they will tell you it's 100% SAFE. Everything is 100% NATURAL. My father tried the business out and then recommended me to try it when he was sure it was the real deal. It IS NOT 4k to start up the business. There are two options you can choose, one is about 70 bucks, the other more expensive [but more worth it because you get plenty of the products to use yourself] is about 400 dollars. I started using the products immediately, and within 30 minutes after having my first shake and round of supplements, I felt more energized and ready for my busy day with two crazy kids. I lost 3 lbs. in the first week. The business side of it is easy, simple. And you have a personal coach to help you understand EVERYTHING and walk you through EVERYTHING so there's never any confusion [not that there could be, everything is pretty laid out for you]. He's there whenever I have a question. I can call him any time I need to. I'm just starting out, VERY new. But I'm quite excited to get the business rolling, as well as dropping the pounds. My father makes very good money, and he is now a World Team Member. I hope to excel just as he did. If our products were unsafe, or unhealthy, why would sports teams wear our logo? You can do a search any time you'd like and find David Beckham wearing his soccer jersey that has our Herbalife name/logo on it. Bottom line is, if you don't like something about it, don't try it. But don't discourage other people from having the freedom to run their own business...or to lose weight in a healthy way while learning to keep it off. I'm a stay at home mom and a Navy wife & I'm happy to have an opportunity to stay at home with my kids, while earning plenty of income.
