Herbalife: What's The Deal?
Herbalife is one of the longest surviving MLM (Multi-level Marketing) companies around. They specialize in the weight loss sector (ShapeWorks) but also have a number of health-related brands. By all accounts Herbalife are doing very well - recently announcing a huge profit surge.
This is a huge business, with their recent 25th anniversary get-together attracting a massive 35,000 independent distributors. They have also been raising their brand profile, by entering into sponsorships with sports events - all to support their new "Liftoff" energy drink.
This business model will always raise many questions - questions that there seem to be few answers for.
- How can one determine a products efficacy if most of it's customers (and/or testimonials) are also vendors? After all that is the basic MLM model - recruiting new distributors is critical to building revenue.
- If a product is as helpful and revolutionary as the sales copy states, why is it not sold through mainstream retailers in order to help as many people as possible?
- Why the deceit? People have been approached by distributors who will not mention the word "Herbalife" up front. The products are mentioned but the sales approach is distasteful to many. However, talk to a successful distributor and they will sing the praises of Herbalife.
- Why is there no nutrition information for any of the products published on their site?
- How can any MLM company maintain ethical consistency when employing so many "independent" distributors? It is clear that some of these distributors employ dubious tactics to gather potential recruits.

Hi,
I was SO sceptical about joining the business - but I did just 2 months ago, I think the products are good. I've got more energy, which I needed having ME. On the business side, I can work when I am able and so far I have got 5 customers, doesn't sound much - but all have signed up for 3 month programmes, and I can really feel the business is building.
So, for any of you looking at all the negative points DONT, if you want it to work it will.
ReplyHi folks !
One thing I see on every forum/blog/free comments website :
When somebody comes to tell us his sister almost died after having taken Herbalife products... he disappears !
No proof, no explaination...
Btw, the doctors you're talking about learnt about nutrition something like 12 hours, during their studies...
The worst side-effect I've ever been told about is headaches. Headaches are a logical consequence of bad hydration. If you don't drink enough, you'll get headaches (taking Herbalife or not)...
Well; if somebody wanna let some info about dangerous side-effects of any Herbalife product... I will be really interested to talk with him. But I doubt anybody will :S
If any Herbalifer wants to talk with me, just go through my website Bien manger (in french, sorry....)
Have a good month, grow your network, and offer more and more support to your downlines and your customers!
Bye
Doic.
ReplyI am amazed by the negativity displayed by some people toward Herbalife - is it fear ? Is it because they have failed themselves.
ReplyI am a distributor - I LOVE the products, I am proud of what I can help people to achieve and yes, I work hard at my business. It is not a get rich quick scheme - it is a business model and should be treated as such.
So stick with it and stay healthy or leave it - IT IS YOUR CHOICE !
MLM .. another way of describing getting naive people to sell over priced over hyped merchandise of dubious quality.
A glass of Milk, an apple and a piece of steak will give you just about all the trace minerals and vitamins you need. Hey some nuts, vegatables, a glass of wine some beans and maybe an egg would be good too, nature has everything we need and it tastes good too ... When did you last pick a piece of fruit from a tree and eat it ? No really I mean it ! It is one of the purest simplest things you can do and makes all the diet freakiness look hollow and stupid
ReplyJoanne, do you really think that anyone who's against diet pills, esp. OTC ones, thinks that way because of jealousy, since they "failed"? Cause you're seriously deluded if you think that way.
ReplyHi all. I'm Malaysia Herbalife Distributor. Can I know how to start my business as I'm still a college student taking A levels? Any expert can give any advice? I have spent so muich on this product yet I can't sell any of the product. Thank you very much.
ReplyHi,
I just ordered(within the last two weeks)the decision package after reviewing the Online System website, which stated that the package would only cost $15.95 shipping and handling (USD), and I could return it within two weeks of having it for a full refund. (Special Offering) Otherwise, if it is not returned, I would be charged $48.95 (USD).
After reviewing my booklet which didn't tell me anything about what the online business actually was, I had two cd's to review about the system, as well as a dvd to look at. The dvd had an advertisement for Windows "Jukebox" music player, and a special deal for 100 songs downloadable for free, nothing else played from it. One of the cd's only had an advertisement for how to import photographs online from Fotomat, another advertisement and special offering to purchase this service. Nothing else on that cd/dvd played. The third cd was a 23 minute audio conference call, where several distributors talked about how well they are doing in the business, how much money they've made since starting the business each month, etc., etc., etc. all without ever mentioning what the business is, and only one testimonial (out of about 15) mentioned the word "products". All of these discs were labeled with the Online System label.
After having an initial 45 minute telephone call with my online coach, I was informed, finally, after asking several times about the business and what is it?, that is was selling Herbalife products, that I need to purchase them for myself, use them so I can believe in them myself, and investing $399.00 (USD) in an international business package.
I also informed my coach about what was on my cd's/dvd's and what wasn't, and she stated that she had never heard that from any other people she had dealt with before....no offer to refund my money or only charge me for the shipping cost since package was not complete.
IBP is the only way to get the marketing tools to start-up and run the business. NO other purchase options for this material. I was supposed to call in to a business conference call this evening to hear more about everyone's business lines, but I decided not to, at this point, I don't have that much money to invest in something like this right now.
After much internet research about Herbalife products today, I have decided to return my decision package and ask for my money back. From what I've read online here and at other sites online, I may not get it back, but if $50.00 saves me alot of wasted time, money, and energy on something that is not financially fruitful, then so be it, and I will have learned my lesson.
By the way, I am a Registerd Nurse and know quite alot about nutrition and herbal supplements of many types, and I am not sure these are nutritionally healthful products with great benefits as it has been suggested, and I have been using some herbal supplements for years already on my own after much research about them first. Also, my physician knows what herbal supplements I take.
As stated in the postings here, above, you can buy most of this stuff in health food stores much less expensively.
Thanks for reading. Just wanted to share my experience.
ReplyI registered to receive the information you described. Immediately I was contacted by a "mentor", a consultant who had been working the IBP for 3 years. She sent me the link to view a video on-line, and scheduled a follow up call the next day, when I saw part 2 with info about the company.
ReplyDuring the conversation, she stated that I would not be charged the $39.95 because I was viewing all of the materials online, not receiving a hard copy of the dvds and paper.
The fee I was quoted was $299, not $399, and the online marketing tools for $24.95 month. I can join any number of MLMs (cookware, housewares, etc) and it's going to run me at least $200-$500 to start up.
I'm not disuaded by the information, and have found my mentor to be very up front with me already.
I have personally commited to working this model, as taught, for 1 year. I will not be investing in inventory, as I've seen Mary Kay and Amway reps get into a world of hurt with the outdated merchandise.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, and I'm not sure how I got lucky enough to be matched with a mentor right away. Maybe you should try again.
I'm looking for an Herbalife Distributor who knows the Mexican market and in particular the 'Nutrition Club' system. I have lots of Mexican connections and am interesting in seeing what can come of it.
ReplyRobert
Hi there,
I am also an independent Herbalife distributor. The products are fantastic. I used Herbalife during my 1st pregnancy (before I was a distributor) and my pregnancy was a breeze! 2nd one, same story...but by then I was a converted Herbalifer.
Not only do I have a child that is mentally more alert than his peers, but Logan at only 4 years old are definitely much more advanced than his class mates in all aspects. Luc (12 weeks old), could lift his head and look around very aware of his surroundings from day 2 !!! Can you believe it? So where does Herbalife come into the story?
Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. When you feeding a foetus at the cellular level with superior and scientifically proven products, then this is the result you get.
Obviously Einstein and other Geniuses brilliance might have nothing at all to do with nutrition, but the fact remains that you give yourself AND your children a very distinct advantage by building healthy "brains" and cells from day 1.
Herbalife is FOOD and damn good food as well, and people must remember that. Originally developed for NASA astronaughts, it has evolved into the world renowned products that they are today.
It is wrongly categorised by people are diet products, probably because of the very obvious weight loss results. There's a big difference between diet products and weight management products!
Everything is 100% natural.
Word to the critics: Rather try 1st, before you shoot it down. Everyone has a friends' sister, or aunt, brother's, uncle who says or heard it is rubbish and it doesn't work....blah, blah.
Half the time you find they didn't use or apply the product(s) CORRECTLY and blame the products.
The business side of things: It's like any legit business. It takes time ! Know your products intimately, BE you own best customer and testimony by using the products and get a good result. People WILL start asking you what's happening to you !I don't know of ANYONE who did not have a good result to this day.
We don’t peddle Herbalife products; we supply health and nutrition solutions to an obese and "fat" world, and enjoy the rewards both physically and financially.
It's the BEST business in a box you'll ever buy, and with the modern internet technology at our disposal it's actually easier than before! The world is there for the taking.
ReplyI used to be a Herbalife distributor but I didn't agree with the cult-like actions and deceiving practices of the distributors. The products were terrible and did little to nothing.
FACT: **I've lost 20 pounds and have kept it off for three years now by cutting out processed foods, trans fat and excess sugar! NOT FROM HERBALIFE!! and so can you!!**
If you want to lose weight the healthy way, then pursue your weight loss goals in a healthy manner! Herbalife is crap! You can get better products at the local GNC.
ReplyLike 90% of the comments posted here are frome Herbalife distributors so I can't really trust them...
I have tried the Herbalie diet. It "worked" more or less. I lost weight, of course I did, I quit eating junk food and changed my chocopop breakfast for a glass of water with powder. After 3 months I had lost 4 kgrms.
I was feeling depressed, bored of always eating the same and suddenly, I stopped loosing weight. I was strickly following the indications and my only true meal a day, was always a healthy one.
I quit Herbalife and in 1 month I had gained all the weight I had lost with their products. I decided to go for a REAL diet, with REAL food, the only extra procducts I was having was an oridnary multivit from the local pharmacy and a red tea at teatime.
I have lost with this diet over 15 kilos in 4 months, I am happy, healthy, eat a variety of food and my recent blood tests are the best ever. A lot of people say that they have lost weight with Herbalife... Of course they do! They swap breakfast and dinner for a bloody shake!
Swap it for an orange juice and a fat free yoghurt and you'd loose weight too! If you stop eating a giant pizza and an Ice Cream for Dinner and drink a glass of shake, I'm sure you'll lower your weight, the difference is that HerbaLIE is much more expensive.
If anyone wants to try a diet, go to a bloody doctor, not your neighbour that's trying to get rid of his stock of crappy herbal products to pay his vacations.
Oh, and replying to Anne Niteworks that replied to Tom:
"Herbalife established a research lab (The Mark Hughes Cellular & Molecular Nutrition Laboratory) at the Center for Human Nutrition at *UCLA*. Named after Herbalife's founder, the lab conducts research to advance the fields of herbal and nutritional science."
Do you really think that any inteligent person will believe they can trust in a research lab established by HerbaLIE? What are they going to say? "We have been investigating and Herbalife is crap" Come on...
Reply"If anyone wants to try a diet, go to a bloody doctor, not your neighbour that's trying to get rid of his stock of crappy herbal products to pay his vacations."
Perfect. I'd just add "his stock of crappy OVERPRICED herbal products". It is just like Amway, it is a cult. Run.
ReplyIs Herbalife safe?
ReplyIs it true that Michael O Johnson, current President of Herbalife, is having an affair with one of the company's top distributors, Susan Peterson? And didn't he just introduce his wife on stage at the Gibson Amphitheater as the "love of my life"?
ReplyReading alot of these posts, my experience with Herbalife is this: Products are good, people selling it are not so good. Some involved deceptions and vague info. Then pressure to invest thousands of dollars into inventory which you may not sell? I feel many of these MLM companies have reached saturation and may soon fail (Nutrition for Life is a recent failure example). Melaleuca got it right when they decided to eliminate inventory from the distributors houses. Every customer orders direct; plain and simple, once signing up.
Woe to the person who wishes to begin a relationship with Herbalife. Be certain to read all the fine print and maybe consult your attorney before starting this endeavor!
ReplyFirst, yes I am a distributor. Secondly, no I don't actively recruit anyone. I just figured I would point out a few things since I am a successful distributor.
1) What most people fail to realize is, yes, there are 1million distributors, except the majority just use the distributorship for the 25% discount. I have a lot of distributors below me who choose to sign up for the 25% discount and want nothing to do with starting a home based business.
2) Those who are decieved into buying thousands of dollars worth of product and are told that they themselves need to find distrubutors to offload said product in order to "get rich" are almost bound to fail 9 out of 10times. They get product which they can't move, unresponsive uplines, tons of advertising materials, and yet they forget to go back to the basics. You could have the best products in the world, but if you don't believe in them, you will never sell them. And for the plethora of people who have been decieved, I do feel for you. I have never tried to coax someone into buying 4000VP worth of product "for supervisor status". On the other hand, 90% of my distributors are former clients. For the other 10%, I tell them that they should in fact try the products themselves first, get some results, and only if they are content should they consider taking the next step and invest more. Sometimes they listen, and sometimes they do what they want. Those of us who truly do care about both our distributors and customers are far and few between; you just have to find us.
3) I have found that my biggest success is in helping people lose weight via the products (selling the products) and providing the appropriate support through various factors. I motivate them and get in contact with family and friends, I contact their doctor, and I arrange a meeting between my client and a personal trainer I have known for years. To lose weight effectively requires a complete plan as this is not a miracle diet, it's a scientific diet which coupled with the right exercise and "teaching" will change a persons life. Because my intentions in helping the people who genuinely want to lose weight is clear, I have built what is turning into a very thriving home based business.
4) Many of the people who I help lose weight refer people to me, and I have come up with ways to continue working with them and keep their business. Coincidently, I have clients who after losing more than 50lbs come to me with lists of up to 30-40 people they know are very interested in losing weight. It is only than that I offer them to become a distributor. Some people choose to do it and end up right off the bat with over 30clients (of course I help train them and teach them how to provide the appropriate support), and some choose to use a secondary incentive plan that I provide.
5) Appearance and honesty is everything. Suits (or a shirt and pants) and being clean shaved (in my case) go a very long way in building that initial trust with a client. I give them my cell phone # and provide the facts about what I do. The moment you try to decieve a potential/current client, you've already lost any hope of working with them. Most people are not stupid and will see right through you.
6) It will always happen that some people cannot afford the suggested retail price. Working via discounts (I give up to 15%) and providing a monthly payment plan helps alleviate said stress. For people who say the products are overpriced, they are not just paying for the products, but for the service I provide them (which unfortunately most distributors do not provide).
Lastly, I must emphasize that this is not a get rich quick program. However, if you run your business honestly and with the correct mindset you will make money and a lot of it. Some people just need to remember not to forget about the bigger picture; and that is, take the business 1 step at a time. An extra $300 a week goes a long way for most families, and eventually, if you continue to work hard, that $300 will become $1000 and only continue to get higher.
Not that it matters, but if anyone does wish to contact me, feel free to e-mail me at bsoldja@gmail.com and remember "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams".
ReplyCan anyone post the link to the The Mark Hughes Cellular & Molecular Nutrition Laboratory at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition? Or can anyone post any info related to this lab that is not hosted by an herbalife-related website? Whenever I do an Internet search I only get herbalife-related articles. The UCLA Center for Human Nutrition does not seem to mention the Mark Hughes Lab.
ReplyIve actually been using Herbalife products for the past week, and i can say they seem to be working fine. I dont know what all of you other people have been doing. robably popping a single pill from 10 different containers. Then yea that could screw things up a bit. Also you need to actually exercise to lose any weight. They arent miracle pills that make you loose weight as you watch tv. Especially if you eat 300 pounds of food a day. They pills are to "help" you loose weight, not do all the exercising and work for you. Also you cannot just live off the stuff. If you just take the pills and whatnot and dont ea anything else or drink anything, then you could also have problems. This is coming from a person who is normally not affected by things like this. Nyquil dosnt put me to sleep, dayquil dosnt keep me awake, allergy medice dosnt work for me etc. But these things are working for me. I have more energy and i am not gaining or losing weight, im staying right where i want to. It all depends on if you use them correctly. Frgot to mention that on the bottles it says to speak to your doctor before using them. I believe thats a wise thing to do before popping them and finding they dont work for you. your doctor should be able to tell you which ones to take, how much to take etc etc. So again, dont listen to other peoples opinions, especially people who put down the products like their worst enemy. They didnt do their homework before using em. Also i have not seen one Herbalife advertisement until i went online, and there i only saw one. If your having problems with people trying to peddle the products, then that eprson is to blame not the company or the products. Just because you have a few bad eggs that dont follow company policy, dosnt mean they all do it. I really love the way people think nowadays, always defensive and ready to attack.
ReplyI went to a Herbalife gathering in Osaka in Japan, and here it really seems like the japanese branch looks like a religious gathering, and some of the persons i spoke to seemed totally fanatical about Herbalife. It was pretty uncanny to be there.
Replyhello..i will talk about my own experience with herbalife. first of all, i tried herbalife for 2 months, after one of the distributors came to me and started talking like for 1 hr about the greatness of herbalife. ok, that person convinced me and i tried it. i wanted to gain some weight, so i got the products and i did exactly what the person told me to do. after i finished the "treatment" (that was 2months), instead of gaining weight, i got a dissapointing surprise when i look at the scale and i see that i had lost 2 pounds, i know it's not much, but i was supposed to gain and not to lose. so the person couldn't understand why...the thing is that the products are kind of expensive and the "protein shakes" are kind of smalls. after my experience with herbalife i got the conclusion that it might be good if you want to lose weight, but for me, i got very dissapointed and i will not get any more products from them again because i think i wasted my money and time!!!...
you can try it if you want, as one of the comments i read said "you have to try it by yourself to notice the change", and that's what i did, and it didn't work.:S...so in other words: herbalife for me really SUCKS!!!
money spent: more than 200 dollars
Replytime spent: 2 months
results: 0%
last words: Herbalife sucks!
Hi!
I would like to know how did you take the shakes, etc. cause I did the shape works program to gain weight and it worked!!
answer me to ambososdois@hotmail.com
take care
ReplyWOW, next time hit me up. i know plenty of employees in the call center that still hook me up with that
Reply50% discount on all products. 17 bucks for a large sontainer of protein shake mix isnt bad at all.
Remember.......THEY ARE TABLETS....NOT PILLS !!!!
ReplyThe market down in Mexico is booming. I am not a distributor but a former employee and the Nutrition Club, if i recall was created by Mexican distributors. I may be mistaken on that, anyhow the Nutrition Club is a store of sorts , where a person can come in and have a shake, drink some liftoff as well as other products as well. I would say it can almost be comnpared to a Jamba Juice or something of that nature.
ReplyI saw Mark Hughes in 1981 pitch these products. I tried the products a few times and felt they had extreme effects on my body, causing a lot of gas. Anything that affects your body so dramatically should be viewed with skepticism. The fact is Mark Hughes was a business man, not a health professional. He died of alcohol and drug abuse. Herbalife is mostly successful due to the pyramid scheme and the desperation people have towards their weight. However, if Herbalife were the true answer to people's weight issues, all the fat people in the world would be taking it because no one wants to be fat. Unfortunately Herbalife is much like the Locnhess Monster, Big Foot and face on mars, people believe what they want to believe. If they want to believe they finally found a way to get thin, then they will believe it works. That's why there's so much hype surrounding these products.
I took Herbalife products a while and never had any weight loss. I took the shakes and various pills and the only real evidence I got was that it gave me a lot of smelly gas symptoms I couldn't control.
ReplyYou are 13 and you are dieting! You are a kid and just limit your sugar intake!!
ReplyIf you fail at any business you have no one to blame but yourself and I know it is a lot of hard work and for people looking for a get rich quick gig this isn't for them. I love the products and have started out slow and just on the shakes alone have lost at least 20 lbs. I am just starting to take more of the products so I will let you know how much more I will lose. It definately works for me and may not work for you, to each his own.I have sold $200 worth of products in 2 weeks and have at least 8 buyers even though I just became a ditributor 1 week ago.
ReplyIt does NOT cost that much to do herbalife.
ReplyIt cost less than a hundred to sign up and
if you open a store you can probably do it for less
than 10 grand if you are money-savey. Or just
do it from home for free.
Upfront: I am an Herbalife distributor, although I just signed up and haven't started selling yet.
I can totally understand the questions and everything. My mom started doing this diet several months ago and I was like, "whatever, another one of her fad diets that will fail" but luckily I was wrong. My mother lost 10 lbs in 11 days which sounds unrealistic to me and I thought it was just some weird coincidence. So I decided to try it. I figured what do I have to lose. I did NOT want to drink two shakes a day, I have tried the slim-fast stuff and didn't lose a pound and was SO hungry. But I found out that there are like 100 recipes to try. So I got some stuff from my mom (who started selling it) and gave it a try. I lost 5 lbs my first week and was pretty satisfied. The shakes were more filling that I thought. I'm not trying to sell anything here (which is illegal to do online anyway) but I thought I would share my honest story of how I got involved. I'm not going to say that this is the only way to lose weight but its an option. I have met with alot of really great people who have lost weight and earned money from this company. I plan on opening a store someday and giving it a shot. The reason that the company is so different than other diets about advertising and all that is that we aren't working for the company. I can't file taxes with it like a normal job. It's just like a representative for avon or mark or whatever, you're your own boss and you don't work for the company. I understand that you guys are really sketchy about it all. Honestly I would be if I didn't know so much about it. I'm not urging you to try it, I just think you shouldn't be so quick to judge. This is a company that has helped so many people overcome weight issues as well as health issues. And everyone I have met so far has a passion for that. I haven't met a single distributor that only does it for the money. They all are so passionate about these products. So instead of complaining about it online, go to a local store and research first. They wouldn't mind at all if you go in and question them without buying anything.
ReplyHi I was looking at the herbalife and someone told me that not all of the products are available to canada addresses. Can you tell me what products are restricted and why?
ReplyEach of the 57 countries that carries Herbalife has their own laws, including labels. Some of the products in different countries are the same except for the name, and some have different products altogether. You can go to the main site at herbalife.com and pull up the country you are interested in to see their product line.
ReplyHi,
ReplyI am from India.I started using the Herbalife product 3 years back & stopped using it after 4 months. Though I had lost 15 Kg of my weight & 5 inches of my waistline,my sugar level went very high.Doctor adviced me to stop this.I took alternative of exercise (morinign walk, jogging, little workout). It helped me a lot maintaining my weight. My heavy expense on herbalife was cut down. My energy level was not disturbed. So I was saved from the bad effects & money loss stopping the intake of herbalife products.I think all herbalife distributors are cheaters & liars. So be carefule before starting tu use this product.

WELL I WAS READING ABOUT YOUR 3 MONTH SUCESS, I HAEV BEEN TAKING HERBALIFE GOING ON THREE WEKS, I CANT REALLY SEE ANY RESULTS, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU? DO YOU HAVE ANY POINTERS?? I AM TAKING THE "SMALL PACKAGE" I GUESS YOU CAN SAY, THE SHAKE, VITAMIN, CELL U LOSS, CELL ACTIVATOR AND WEIGHT CONTROL, I AM A BIT DISCOURAGED.
ReplyWell Wish me luck... I just started 2 days ago, it is Wednesday and so far so good. It keeps me fool and with energy which is something weird (maybe a placebo??). Of course I eat A LOT at lunch time so I am not sure how that is going to work. In 2 months I will come back and leave another comment... I weight 175 lbs and 5'9" tall. My goal is to loose 5 pounds.
ReplyWISH ME LUCK!!!
I have my husband on ShapeWorks, b/c I was looking into the biz and can't take the shakes myself due to breastfeeding. Third day now and he has severe cramps, plus diarrhea. I looked at the ingredients list - it's no better than any other diet shake, a whole bunch of chemicals, isolated soy/whey protein, stuff that creates toxins in the body. I also purchased the aloe spray thinking it would be "soothing" for my 7 mo. old son's eczema. But then I checked the ingredients' list and noticed that it contains PHENOXYETHANOL, which is a harsh skin irritant known to cause eczema! The Garden 7, which I bought for myself contains SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, METHYLPARABEN AND POLYPARABEN - you will notice the first ingredient in 99% of shampoos and the parabens in 99% of skin creams/lotions. I see no reason why these chemicals should be in a vegetable/fruit supplement, does anyone else?!
I read somewhere that Herbalife products were formulated by a guy with no credentials behind a stack of books. Scarey thought. No wonder Herbalife doesn't publish the ingredients on its site!
ReplyI am a FORMER HL dist. and I tell everyone I know to never go into this buss. I was a supv. and in a 10 month period built a team of 36 underneath me who never worked. I would come home from my job and spend the next 6 hrs training whiney downlines, dialing leads and being on rah rah calls. My family life suffered, my marriage suffered and for all of this I am $30,000.00 in debt.
ReplyI did everthing I was told to do by my upline, went to all the events and made sure my downlines did too, so in reply to the woman who said it takes a lot of work IT DOES and let me tell you it DID NOT pay off for me. I earned in checks from HL less than $5,500.00 what a pay off for an investment of $30,000.00. I finally quit after 10 mos because my whole team decided they weren't going to be stupid like me and they all quit within a 2 month period.
So don,t let them tell you that if you "follow the plan to a T" and DO the DO you will make it big in HL because I can name you a doz people that were not my downlines but on my team who suffered the same fate as me.
You better have $150,000.00 capitol that you won't miss if you you want to make it.
Well it looks like things got a bit off topic there for a while! First of all nobody is disputting the products of Herbalife. They are great, I've been on them myself and get ready for it....I'm an ex ID for Herbalife.
I hade to pay 200 dollars to get a kit with only a 2 day's worth amount of samples, so anyone who got more got lucky. Second, you are now involved in MLM, though not told to you straight out. I just found out that Hughs is dead and has been for a while now. That fact was NOT told to me at all, in fact my sponser talked of him as if still being around. Crazy! You may choose to buy your way into the levels of money making. These are in 1,000 dollar increments and yeah go ahead and put it on your credit card! That's what they want you to do. I'm not dumb enough to do that, thank goodness I never did. Too many people have lost thousand's here. Your sponser makes money off you, so whatever you spend they make a profit off of. Should you decide not to spend thousands you are lucky if they keep in touch with you at all! How do I know this? Well Crystal was my sponser and I learned all this things through her and the way she treated myself as well as some others! In fact she stole a profit right in fron t of me! Yep, I brought her my friend, who she then conned in to the HAP and I never saw a cent, let alone got to talk. I have met only one honest distributor out there. Many are out there conning people just to make money. It has nothing to do with the products, it's about the money! I even brought my sponser to meetings with people interested and she refused to sell even just one item if they were not going to spend at least 200 bucks. The other thing that bothered me was at a meeting when they clearly stated, exercise in not beneficial! Are you kidding me? You need a great diet as well as exercise to have a healthy body!
And, yes, Herbalife distributors are discouraged from stating up front about who they are. Why? Because they have a lot of bad reports, falling stocks, and pissed of ex-id's and clients.
Herbalife is now understanding the impact that the internet has on buyers. They are now upping there game of recruiting distributors with a new online wfh program. It took me a while to figure out who this company was emailig me about working from home, but after a google check the name Herbalife was drawn up again. So I emailed this Particia and told her she may call me about her biz and that I'd like to work from home on the computer and not have parties and such(as her letter discussed) but was she a part of Herbalife? Did she respond? No, but I have been lucky enough to continue to get her daily email messages.
If you really want to find out the truth about Herbalife and how they operate from the distributors stand point, then buy in a find out. Or you could be smart and simply google or read Rip Off report to find out why people will never work for them. Unfortunatly the business model sucks and you can realistically expect to only make about 20% income once your fees and sponser are paid and pay yourself back from what you have spent on Herbalife. It is a shame some id's are bad, I had one lady who did nothing but thank me for not setting her up, taking her money and then never giving her the product! I was furious and reported that jerk to Herbalife and they did nothing!
ReplyThey do have great products, expensive but I like them. I'm still reaserching and comparing other products just as great but cheaper. Oh and they uaully in the past had the ingrediants posted on the website and if not they are on the label and pretty damn good!
Herbalife continues its deceptive, unethical, and downright criminal ways from Chairman Michael Johnson all the way down to its blood-sucking marketing pyramid base.
1. Its 2007 Annual Report fails to reveal its corporate officers' compensation packages. Even though there is a Chief Science Officer and a "growing number of scientists," there is no R&D budget and no laboratory facilities.
2. Herbalife makes donations to laboratories at UCLA and the University of Mississippi in hopes that they may discover something useful--but they do not direct any ongoing programs there.
3. The mainstay weight loss products contain the poison metal lead in amounts 1000 times that allowed by California's Proposition 65 law. And so do the children's shakes and vitamins. I have seen the independent laboratory reports. When confronted with this information, President Johnson sloughed it off to the press by saying that all drinks have lead in them. CSO Steve Henig added that all foods have trace amounts of lead, and that sensitive equipment can measure that. These are way above trace amounts--amounts that get toys pulled off of store shelves when tested to ASTM F-963. Lead is not to be handled--much less ingested.
4. Another member of the ex-Disney Dream Team, COO Gregory Probert, was silently dismissed from the firm earlier this year when it was found that he had misrepresented earning his MBA.
5. Dr. Lou Ignarro shares a Nobel prize with two other physician-PhD.s Dr. Lou, however parleyed his work into a one percent royalty on a product he developed for Herbalife. NiteWorks is primarily a mix of vitamins C and E with some nitric oxide thrown in for good measure. Aside from the unethical formation of a shell corporation to receive the $1 million up front payment against royalties by Herbalife, the good Doctor encourages heart patients to toss their heart medications when using his nutritional formula overnight. The product/concept has been tested only on mice, yet the Doc says "if it works in mice it should work in humans." YIKES! Co Nobel Prize winner Dr. Ferid Murad calls what he has done "OBSCENE."
6. Even the most pedestrian nutritionist knows that you don't combine vitamins C and E at one sitting. The efficacy of each is retarded by the other, dictating that for optimum absorption and benefit they should be taken 12 hours apart. But then, should a Nobel Prize-winning doctor in the employ of a "science-driven" nutrition company know that? Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Price and we have yet to have Middle East Peace. Al Gore, erstwhile inventor of the Internet and Ecology freak won a Nobel Prize for his work on global warming. Too bad NASA and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration reported that we've actually had one or two years of global cooling.
7. Twelve liver patients (one who died awaiting a transplant) were uniformly adjudged by hospital medical staff to have been poisoned by Herbalife products in Jerusalem, Israel. A woman in California is currently suing for the very same thing.
8. Suffice it to say, that Herbalife won't even make its product labels (questionable in an of themselves-I didn't see lead listed on any of those shake packages)available except on the products themselves, and it depends solely upon anecdotal stories by happy users to sell the stuff, because there is no test data nor clinical trials with which to truly educate customers or fairly compare its products with the competition. The presence of lead is also evidence of a lack of standards and proper quality control at the various vendors' plants who supply Herbalife.
9. As a recent business school graduate, I can only point you to a most simple calculation and beg you to do the math. Herbalife hype showcases the top 1% distributors with disclaimers shown below. What you really need to know is what the average distributor produces:
Herbalife 3.0 Billion Sales / 1.7 Million Distribs
= $1,765 per Distributor
Most distributors join as Supervisors at around $2,000, so it is easy to see that Herbalife grows and prospers not by getting product into the hands of consumers, but into the hands of NEW DISTRIBUTORS. As evidence, go to eBay and search Herbalife to see all the thousands of distributors' inventories just waiting to be sold a twenty-five to fifty cents on the dollar.
10. Finally, the Web is just as saturated with deceptive Herbalife MLM work at home junk sites as have been our utility poles, windshields, and doorsteps. I found over 12.2 million hits on a Google search for "Herbalife," or one for every 54 people on line. Searching "home business" there was a site for every 3.9 folks on line; for "nutrition" and "wellness" there is an ad or website for every person on line. The biggest users of the Internet are in Asia, yet Herbalife has taken 1/5th of the world's population out of play by rolling out a brick and mortar only retail plan for all of China.
Sounds to me like Dung Chow.

Replyso sorry to hear your mentor abandon you. My experience with my couach has been a positive one....I can call her any day of the week at anytime and I always can get a hold of her....not only can I call her but I have a whole list of her upline as well and they are always willing to help me out.
ON ANOTHER NOTE
as far as the negitive comments on the business end of herbalife I am not only learning good business skills I am also learning good advise on personal development that I never learned at any job my whole life as well as feeling great on the herbalife products. I have been reading a book recomended by my mentors in it is a quote that reminds me of all the negitive things I have read about herbalife
"complaining makes you a crap magnet"
negitive thoughts lead to negitive results perhaps those who have had bad experiences with herbalife are those choosing to blame the company instead of looking at themselves......instead of focusing on what herbalife has done for you focus on what you have done for you. it works only when you work it!
I've been a Herbalife distributor in uk for 3 years. I joined the business opportunity not to take the products. But I use the products everyday as do my family - they taste great and make me feel great.
ReplyI have paid $25 to get the decision pack. I was held back to continue due to the price of business pack. Lucky for me I don't lose anymore money for this MLM scheme. I trapped with "work from home, get lots of money" advertisement. I did not realize that this is an MLM system until I paid $25. Yes, no doubt that HL may bring prosperity to a hard worker distributor, as is in any other job. HL are honest say that this is not a "quick to rich" way. But I don't want to be a distributor and encourage innocence people losing money to join this MLM system (like myself). Just don't feel right. I feel like that HL MLM system will be done soon. Better go get a real job with a real skill.
Regarding nutrition and weight loss, I am not against supplement pills. But hey, almost all nutritionist suggest you to have a balance of diet consisting of a variety of fresh food and exercise. I don't known any nutritionist advise ppl to take weight loss supplement. GO NATURAL!!!
