LOL The juice is for the money they have to make.

Geesh. You haven't figured that one out yet? LOL

They are working on a new Hollywood Miracle Diet. It's the Hollywood 12 hour Miracle Diet, and only requires you to stop eating, drinking and have to walk from your Manhattan appt. to Hollywood. But you are required to send money, preferably cash or money order, prior to begining this exclusive diet.

All that's in that juice is senna (laxative), various diuretics, and vegetable juice. I could mix all that up myself, drink it, and be in the bathroom crapping my guts out for the next 2 days and probably dehydrate myself by 5-10 lbs too. But I'd rather just not. Those diets are gross :)

I've tried this before and it really works but I wouldn't do this for an extended period of time. I did it for 2 days and then stopped for a week and did it 2 more days and then stopped. I was scared of what might've happened if I kept going. And I didn't need to lose anymore weight after that lol. I'm back to a size 6.

Who really needs to lose five pounds in 24 hours?

This is the kind of fantasy of change vs. the reality of real-life modification of behavior based on deeply-felt values.

My own approach to weight loss has been both sensible and fairly quick, while also remaining true to my values: duhdiet.blogspot.com.

I am a 13 year old 5'1 girl that weighs 110 pounds opposing my recent 120 (my 10 pounds was lost the old fasioned hard way) lucky for me I almost always hate sweets but love cheeseburgers and junk food. I was wondering if this diet was appropriate for someone of my age? I would like to get down to 100 pounds. I have tried working off the equal amounts of calories intaken but that is really harder than it seems I am highly interested in trying this diet, also I would like to know if the weight comes back on. Thanks, Courtney.

yeah this stuff will work if u dont mind staying in the br and dont mind getting your electrolytes out of wack. sure go ahead and deplete your potassium and sodium levels. these are very important to your health. you are better off losing weight the old fashion way

Wow! This is really good stuff. i tried it and lost a total of 19 pounds in 3 days. the only downside is that you constantly have to go to the bathroom (and i dont mean to tinkle).
i plan on continuing this diet for one more month to lose a total of about 50 pounds.
anyone else tried it and have a success story.

I'm 13 5'2 and weigh 138 lbs. I feel so fat compared to other people. I've tried to do other programs like Winsor Pilates and Curves but I never stick to them. I would like to get down to 120 or less. Does anyone know a reasonable plan that would take about 2 months for me to shed this weight healthily. Thank you !

Lindsey, well, first, 120lb might be too small for you - you won't know until you get there. So having a specific number weight goal is not a very good idea.

First, you are right on the exercise. You need to do it. Everyone does. Not as punishment to lose weight, but forever. Find an activity or go to a gym, but be active for at least 30-40m everyday.

Then on to the food. No packaged stuff. Eat just real food. You know, fruit, vegetables, meats, fish, grains, dairy, whole-grain products like whole-wheat bread. Eat enough not to be hungry, but not to be stuffed, and eat 5-6x times a day, about every 3h. So in short: no chicken fingers, eat chicken breast instead; no apple pie, eat the apple; no potato chips, eat the real potato; no fruit-flavored sugary yogurt, eat the real plain thing (put some sweetener, honey, or sugar in it, so that you know there is no funky flavorings etc. in it). It is really simple, and yet hard, cause the food we are exposed to now is only the packaged crap. And that is what keeps us fat and sick.

Did anyone other than me notice how there seems to be a new trend of 13 yr.old females trying to loose weight? my advice : 100-138 is a reasonable weight for a 13 yr old. besides you should all exercise , but wait , since you are only 13 you are still growing taller and that will give you the illusion of skinnier and appropriate shape (weight vs. height) .

I'm 5'3 fifteen years old & I weight 163 lbs. I've
been on/off weight watchers & I've been using
24-hour fasts.

I've researched it and it's perfectly healthy.
But I want to know .. what is a good goal weight?

Reply
Jan

Nicole, while you don't need to lose weight, if you lost a few it wouldn't put you in the underweigth category either. However, I would NOT say 24-hour fasts are perfectly healthy for a growing teen, and I believe they do lasting damage on your metabolism too, making you more prone to gain weight.

If you really want to lose weight, along with staying active, I highly recommend you go back on WW, instead of doing the fasts. Keep in mind a lot of research that says fasts are healthy are biased by religious motivations, since pretty much every religion in the world recommends fasting, so you can be sure the researchers/doctors behind them are likely to be a member of at least one of them, since atheists are a very small percentage of the population.

I'm 5'7" and weight 137. I'd like to drop to about 130 quickly. The thing is though, i really don't eat much as i am now, so i can't really cut back. any ideas?

import, at 137lb and 5'7", your BMI is 21.5. That is on the low end of the HWR. If you drop to 130lb, it will be 20.5. Why do you feel the need to lose weight at all, but most of all, quickly, and also, not eating much is not a good thing. You need to eat enough, but of healthy foods. We all do.

I'm 13 years old. And lately my weight has been going up and down. Last year my friends all thought I was "annorexic". But I never really went to the doctors or whatever. So yeah right now i'm 5'2 and 110 pounds. all of my friends think i'm really skinny, but I'm not at all! And I really want to go back down to 80/90 pounds like I was at the beginning of the year til I was forced to gain all my hard work back. And now I don't know what to do, because I guess I could start not eating again but I know that it's stupid at the same time because it could have a long term effect on my body which i don't want. All I want is to lose some weight ... but I'm scared to do what some girls are doing. I've tried everything, I'm very active (especially in the sports), I can't stop eating lately .. I don't know why. Like it's just weird. I felt so guilty about how much I ate at a Christmas party that as soon as I got home I puked it back up... Please help. :S.

I have to agree with you some girl who's smarter than you. And also, yeah, she is definitely smarter than a whole lot of you. ;)

Mika, can you talk to a counselor, or ask your parents to take you to a physician for a check-up, at the very least? You need help. You are very thin as it is and you are glamourizing eating disorders, calling it "your hard work". That is not good. Please talk to someone, ok? If you feel you can't talk to your parents, try to talk to a counselor at school, or some other relative or family friend you'd be more comfortable talking to.

the only way you can physically lose 5 pounds in 24 hours is if its WATER WEIGHT. that means your physical size won't decrease. maybe your tummy but just until you eat real food again. losing 5 lbs in 24 hours is ludicrous. its all false hopes if you're actually thinking about it.

How is this stuff any different from the Chinese dieter's tea?!! I remember taking that years ago and all I ended up with was plenty of diarrhea! I am 5ft & wt. 137. This is the heaviest I've been. I am an older female (33) and looking get back to my usual 110-120 lb wt. I have been consistent with my wt training 2-3x/week & cardio 2-3x/week. I may have lost body fat but the weight has been the same from May until now(Dec). I have a clean diet fresh fish, chicken fruit/veg & whole grains, no fried fatty foods with the exception of the holidays and yet no wt loss!!! I just cant seem to go under 135lb!!!!

Mika, I wish I was 110 lbs! I am 137 lb with your height...I feel confident enough to feel okay with my body. I still love looking at myself in the mirror. Everyone think I'm nuts to think that I need to lose weight! The look I want to have is a nice fit, tight & with some muscles. I do not want no bones sticking out anywhere. Please reconsider how you see yourself and speak to an adult about this issue or at least someone in the fitness/health industry. To me, the Nicole Richie look is disgusting & we need more fit role models in this world....

This product will not make you loose baby fat and has the same effect on your body as oh say disentary. sadly the only way to get rid of any fat is to move your body!(exercising) sadly there really is no quick fix miracle diet and any product that claims to be is a scam. besides the people who go on these diets gain back any lost baggage within a considerably short time span, but a healthier lifestyle makes for a healtheir lifetime. (sorry that was corny but think about have you ever heard a fit person in your life say "and my great body is all thanks to this little bottle here..."? p.s.the spokes people on comercials don't count they're paid and visit gyms religiously no doubt) :)much luck

If you are 16 and weigh only 72 pounds you need to gain some weight!!!!! I suggest you go to the food guide pyramid website if you are worried about your weight. They will tell you a healthy weight for your size and age and give you plenty of tips to keep your body healthy. Being stick thin is not beautiful and it is not healthy. Women are supposed to have some curves. When was the last time you heard a guy say-check out the ribs on that one?

Thankss :]

Allison- Actually, I'm your age, your height, and just a few pounds heavier than you. Currently, according to standard BMI (Body mass index) Your weight it healthy. An ideal weight is anywhere bettween roughly 135 and 156 I believe, so while losing a few pounds may boost your self esteem or something like that, it is not necessary to your health. For eating and excercising I'd say the normal fruits and vegetables, but stay away from the sweeter fruits (Mangos and other high fat ones, you can google it). If your body is built for running, yes it can help you lose weight. Personally mine isn't so running just puts stresses on my body that make doing it uncomfortable. Dancing is a healthy alternative to running if you do it so that by the end you're a little sweaty and in need of catching some breath. Google aerobic excercises and find some of those for help. Stay away from anaerobic if you're looking for a slimmer appearance because anaerobic work will bulk up your muscles and make you appear heavier. As well muscle is more dense than fat.. I hope I helped

JADS, mangoes don't have fat. The only fruit that has a significant amount of fat is the avocado, and it is healthy fat. Mangoes and bananas and carrots and the other fruits and vegetables that are often seen as the bad guys are not bad for you. Of course, if you sat down and ate 18 mangoes at a time, that would be a whole lot of carb, but fruit is very good for you and very filling, so I doubt people are going to binge on it. I've never seen an obese person say "I got fat by binging on mangoes", it is always doughnuts or pizza.

And telling someone to stay away from anaerobic exercise is the worst advice you could possibly give. Resistance exercise increases metabolism, prevents osteoporosis, and keeps a body young.

Reply
Mia_para_me

Jan- JADS is correct if Allison dosen't want to bulk up and would rather slim down then she should do more aerobic exercise than anarobic(the ability to preform the exercise longer burns more calories resulting in weight loss). Also it's not the type of exercise that prevents osteoporosis, it is just the presence of exercise and nutrition. It's the stress (good stress) on the bone that causes bone cells to regenerate and grow stronger thus preventing complications like osteoporosis.

I wonder if a person could become obese by mango-binging would they become that lovely shade of orange, thrilling they would look like a fat cheerleader all orange and hiper, that makes me smile;)

Mia: women bulking up without taking steroids is a myth. It is impossible. Unless you take steroids or are genetically a male, you cannot bulk up from resistance training. Of course, if by "bulk up" you mean "look like Kate Beckinsale", then yes, women can get "bulky". But the common understanding is they will look like the women in the Ms. Olympia competition, and that doesn't happen without serious chemical assistance.

And it has been proven that resistance training raises metabolic rate for hours, not to mention that as you build muscle, your metabolism remains higher, so no, aerobic exercise does not burn more calories. Ideally, a program includes both, but if you have to pick just one for weight loss, resistance exercise should be the pick.

Resistance exercise is what builds bones and repairs bone loss. Aerobics, if you for example run or walk for miles and miles at an end, will also be a type of resistance exercise for your legs, but unless you keep increasing distances, it will stop working. And it won't build bones on the rest of your body. You are right, it is stress on the bone. But running 30m if you've been running 30m forever will not stress your bone. Anyone who has done regular aerobic exercise knows that in the beginning, your muscles are all sore. After a while, you do your exercise, sweat, but don't feel any sort of muscle stress afterwards. Once that stops happening, the bone benefits have stopped happening as well.

So of course, any sort of activity or exercise is better than nothing, but I'd still pick weights only over aerobics only both for weight loss and for general health.

Well, carrots have vitamin A and make you look orange if you overeat them, so I'm guessing that fat Oompa Loompa would be the result of mango binging.

I think people overthink this weight loss thing. "Weights are dangerous", "mangoes are dangerous", when it is obvious that the real dangers are being sedentary and eating junk/processed foods. I think once a person has started SOME activity and cut out all the processed stuff, if by then they still need to lose more weight, they can start worrying about carb percentages and fat percentages and how much cardio vs. how much time doing weights and such. The reality is most people won't need to ever do that. They are fat from eating fast food and sitting down to work and watch tv, not from "dangerous" mangoes and weight training.

On the road to my PhD

About 2 summers ago, I wanted to start more of a full-body workout, so I did some weight training, push-ups, crunches added to my usual running. I heard that weight and strength training would make my muscles more toned and defined. Not so much... Contrary to what I had been told, I definitely got bigger in certain areas of my body, I would describe it to be a "bulky" look. I became wider in my midsection, right above my hips and below my chest region. Granted, it was definitely hard muscle, but my clothes weren't fitting me right, and at the end of the summer, I took a look at all my pictures taken over that period out on the boat and the beach, and I genuinely looked bigger. My arms were chunky looking, not so much muscular, but not their usual long, lean look. I had not changed my diet in any way. The only thing I changed was the addition of strength training. I quickly quit my daily 100 pushups and 100 crunches and continued just running. I got back to my slender shape in about a month or so. So although strength training is considered a good thing, it definitely can change the shape of your body depending on what kinds of exercises you do. I think the benefits are stressed because of the frequency of osteoporosis and muscle weakness women tend to develop as they age. And if there is in fact a certain shape you are attempting to achieve (though you can't necessarily achieve any shape you wish), be careful what kind of exercises you choose to do. I prefer to be leaner than to be "defined", if that is in fact how I looked. So now, I stick to distance cardio, and things continue to be great.
