High Protein Does Help

WebMD reports on an intriguing study that looks at how protein can help regulate appetite. This study was not about weight loss (although the participants did lose some fat).

If I've read WebMD's summary correctly, it went like this (they were given the same amount of calories every day):

Week 1-2
50% carb, 15% protein, 35% fat
Must eat everything.
Week 3-4
50% carb, 30% protein, 20% fat
Must eat everything.
Week 5-6
50% carb, 30% protein, 20% fat
Only eat until satisfied.

What happened? In Week 3-4 the subjects reported feeling fuller. In Week 5-6 they ate 441 calories less per day and lost 8 pounds of fat.

How do they sum it up:

"Replacing a portion of dietary fat with protein may result in weight loss comparable with that reported with low-carbohydrate diets while minimizing the adverse long-term effects of increased dietary fat,"
