Weight Loss to Die For
The UK Telegraph has a tragic account of a young woman on a quest to lose weight - a desperate quest that took her life.
She had already joined a gym and a Weight Watchers' club but had failed to lose weight. In desperation, she had got hold of a small quantity of the drug after hearing it would burn up energy and suppress her appetite.
The article does not describe the particular drug - except that it was an amphetamine.
Miss Ferguson, a size 14 who had never taken drugs before, suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and heart failure from the toxic effects of the amphetamine.
Sobering indeed.

Hi, I'm new here, but I like the issues being discussed in this forum.
ReplyI wanted to say that this story is so, so sad. No one should ever die from being so overweight (yes, I'm one of those folks who truly believe we overweight people don't stand a chance at losing due to the poisons and additives they've put into our food supply) yet no one should ever hurt themselves or in this tragic case, die trying to shed weight, thinking it'll make them happier or healthier. Just terrible.
"We overweight people don't stand a chance at losing due to the poisons and additives they've put into our food supply."
This is a new one. Wouldn't poisons and additives cause cancer or something? How would they keep you overweight? Has Dr. Evil cooked up some sort of top secret metabolism lowering drug that he has put in our food to make us fat, so he can take over the world when we all can't move anymore?
ReplyNo, but the food companies routinely put MSG and Aspartame in both regular and diet foods. These are both known toxins which by the way, cause people to eat more. Just because an ingredient doesn't say 'MSG' doesn't mean it isn't called something else.
I'm on your side, Brenner. :-)

ReplyA size 14? She killed herself over a size 14? That's not even that big. A 14 is the smallest size that Lane Bryant (the fat girl's clothing store) stocks. And if it was a British size 14, since the article is from a British site, that's actually equivalent to an American size 12. It's too bad her sense of perspective was so skewed that it literally killed her.
Replyits called being in control of yourself, drinking the proper amt of water, stop buying fatty, high caloric foods (if u dont buy em u wont eat em); and exercise, exercise, exercise. For God sakes, get off the couch, stop lookin for the closest parking spot at the mall, take a walk around the neighborhood!!!!! And the best medicine, PRAY TO GOD FOR HELP AND CONTROL. THIS WORKS TRUST ME.
Replyi want to know what happened to those people on the diet or die show that was shown in 2002 in the UK - i was so touched and felt such sympathy for them i would like to think they actually got help and didnt end up dying alone in a bedsit - so if u got any ifo let me know
