Downsize Me: Me and Mickey D Trailer

Soso Whaley lost 18 pounds eating nothing but McDonald's food. Her film Me and Mickey D now has a trailer hosted here.

Ms Whaley must be applauded. The trailer of her film showed the simplicity of eating appropriate amounts of food, and enjoying exercise. No fads, no gimmicks, no "SuperSize Me" sensationalism. The amazing thing is she ate only McDonald's (gasp!) food.

Well done Me and Mickey D - simple honest truth like this throws the dieting industry on it's ear.

Yea, but how many people eat like that? More people eat unhealthy when they go to McDonald's than healthy. This was no doubt funded by McDonalds to try and save some face and create more buzz about their 'fruit buzz'. Supersize me was real, but instead of what happens over a year or two he did it in 30 days.

The problem with these "Super Size Me" debunkers is that they are conducting very different experiments than Spurlock did. Spurlock made a big deal about not getting more exercise than the average American. So comparing "Super Size Me" with "Me & Mickey D" is that you are comparing apples and oranges.

Good point. Spurlock was demonstrating the "average" American with little nutritional knowledge, no exercise, and just accepting that supersizing a meal is a normal thing to do. On the other hand Whaley is making good nutritional choices and exercising.

So is it about McDonald's or about broader lifestyle choices?

Well the point of the matter is that McDonalds is not responsible for making people fat. It's people themselves who make them fat.

Yes, but as Spurlock stated at the beginning of the film he could have chosen any fast food company like Wendy's, Burger KIng, etc (or ate the same ammount of calories), but he specifcally went for McDonalds because of the number of convienient easy to find locations (like in a WalMart or esp. in a hospital as shown in the film). This way he could show the spread of the bad food and lifestyle habits through out the country.

Americans only know two things: what Bill O'Reilly tells them and what Karl Rove tells Bush to tell them.

I think it boils down to one thing. Personal responsibility. this is what Spurlock tries to reject. He implies that it is the corporations fault. He abused fast food like he could have abused anything. Bottom line. Do what you want, but blame no-one but yourself for the result. (hint, liberals)

Please, this is black and white. I agree with the previous post. Personal responsibility is the american way. It's the constant onslaught of the liberal bias in everything from education to Hollyweird to national judiciary that has turned this land into a land of whiners and people who blame others for their life choices. If you rely on fast food as a dining choice(note the word choice) then you accept the consequences of YOUR actions. Come on people, wake up.

I would rather see someone showing that people should have some sort of responsibility than a person who stuffs thier face. It is almost to say that we have become lazy enough to start blaming others for a scapegoat when it is obviously only your fault how you take care of yourself.

I don't have much to say, except that Amber, Chris B, and Chris Gamble are completely correct in their statements. I thought about writing more, but I didn't just want to repeat what they were saying. :-)

"Americans only know two things: what Bill O'Reilly tells them and what Karl Rove tells Bush to tell them."

And things would be SOOOO much better if they would only do what CHRIS told them, or what Morgan Spurlock told them, or what Hillary told them or any other wannabe megalomaniac that thinks they know what is best for all of us tells us.

Idiots that "follow" get what they deserve. Learn or die.

Hey Paige!
Like Jan said, try not to stress about your weight. When I was about your age (5years ago)I became obsessed with my weight and became anorexic. I finally realized it's not what the scale says that counts it's what the way you look. I'm sure you are fine. I am also tall (5'8") and weigh the same as you. But if you do want to lose weight the best thing to do is excercise (I find running/jogging works the best) several times a week, drink atleast 64oz of water, and don't stuff your face. Eat smaller proportions but don't starve yourself. Good Luck!

"Yea, but how many people eat like that? More people eat unhealthy when they go to McDonald's than healthy."

I'm going to have to agree with the commenter "Chris Gamble" (and note that I'm a liberal). I eat fast food at least once or twice a week, and I have NEVER Super-sized/Biggie-Sized/Up-sized anything in my life. Usually I'll order just the sandwich and a diet soda, and when I order the entire meal then I'll compensate for the extra calories with a small dinner. I also exercise regularly. The whole idea of "Big Food" (like "Big Tobacco") is absurd, because food chains don't lie about their products being unhealthy. They know darn well it's unhealthy, because they put a lot of stuff in there that adds taste, and as a result, calories. Their business is TO SELL FOOD. If their business was to make everyone healthy, then Ray Kroc would have financed a franchise of gyms instead of hamburger stands.

Bottom line, unless you have some serious health concerns anyone can eat what they want - within reason. Overall diet and attention to fitness has a far greater impact to your appearance and health than the occasional Big Mac and fries.

Isn't it possiblwe that maybe the person lost muscle and gainted fat and since muscle weights more nothing happened

Everyone please, Spurlock's Super Size Me is straight biased, he purposely over ate what an average person would, purposely under excercised what an average person would and most the information was only half relevant to what he was actually doing. If the movie was what he stated it was intended for, "the kids of America", he would of left most of the profanity out of it, ie. showing the fat backsides of Americas, showing a guy getting a bypass and his rectal exam. him showing fater Americans backsides in a way that is mocking them is not the way he should be presenting his doc. to children. His documentary serves no purpose what so ever.

Jenny, 57 kilos at 1,60m is not overweight at all. Eating as little as you are will not only damage your health long term, but it will only make you fatter in the short term. If you keep eating 100 calories a day, the day that you eat 500 calories, you are actually gonna gain weight, and all of it in the form of fat, with no muscle whatsoever. The end result is that soon, even if you manage to remain 57 kilos, you'll be wearing bigger clothes sizes, and odds are you'll weigh more too.

Please remember that models are retouched and often use unhealthy methods to be that skinny - their diets consist of cigarettes, illegal drugs, and hardly any food. Think about how much you've wasted being on a diet since you were 11 and most of all, hating your life and yourself and everything about you, as you say. Do you have a conselour at school you can talk to? Cause hating yourself is no way to go through life.

Yeah, it's true, Morgan didn't show at that, but he's had alot of interview requests by people like you, such as this one guy who made a film entitled "Bowling for Morgan".

Seems Spurlock inspired alot of people to eat at mcDonald's, even though the firm seemed to have denounced Super Size me.

As far as that goes, I am sure there will be others trying this experiment.

When does Downsize me come out? (the full film, not the trailer? Or was the trailer the film?

Rock on
