Coke Zero: Confused Anyone?
Hot on the heels of Diet Coke With Splenda comes Coca-Cola Zero. Coke Zero is sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium (ace-k) and has zero calories. The only chemical difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is that Coke Zero has about half the aspartame but has more ace-k.
Confused anyone? It's a marketing thing - Coke have manufactured a "diet" coke without using the word diet... which in their eyes will appeal to a different demographic.
So how many flavors of Coke are there now?
- Diet Coke
- Caffeine Free Diet Coke
- Diet Coke Plus
- Diet Coke with Lime
- Diet Coke with Lemon (phased out end of 2005)
- Diet Cherry Coke
- Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke (added 2006)
- Diet Vanilla Coke (phased out end of 2005)
- Diet Coke with Splenda (being discontinued)
- Coca-Cola Zero
- Coca-Cola C2
- Coca-Cola Classic
- Coca-Cola with Lime
- Coca-Cola Blak (added 2006)
- Cherry Coke
- Cherry Coke Zero (added 2007)
- Vanilla Coke
- Caffeine Free Coca-Cola Classic
What's your poison?

These are not at all urban legends, watch the movie Sweet Misery, it has all the science and many victims of aspartame that got brain cancer from 6 cans a day.
Also, if you did any research into the science of aspartame toxicity, you would see the methanol turns to formadehyde which the body cannot get rid of, the body stores it, so even if you drink 1 can a day, after many years you will have enough to have problems.
Then there's the 2 amino acids in aspartame, these are natural, but they are normally found in 4% concentrations, not 50%, and that's what causes the brain damage and tumors, not the methanol.
It's also interesting to note there is a $350 Million RICO racketeering and corrupt organization lawsuit against aspartame, and it is currently in the process of being baned.
Do your research and watch sweet misery and you'll see how deadly aspartame is (statistics say about 1 million people a year are made sick by aspartame, and a few hundreds die, this is no small problem).
ReplyI also wanted to add: Isn't the proof that aspartame causes people to GAIN weight moire than enough to avoid it? Even if the cancer risk was minor, which it isn't, just the fact that it's proven to make you gain weight is enough to avoid it like the plague, and that's before we mention the 92 diseases it's known to cause.
ReplyOkay....so I think I've got it licked now boys and girls...
ReplyIf I don't eat anything or drink anything I won't ingest anything that may - at massive doses that will physically impossible to consume - give me: any cancer, any mental illness, any physical disability, any craving to become a Manchester United fan.
I'm going to STARVE and avoid all this.
Thank you for the advice, folks!
Doesn't matter. Diet coke is still a junk drink. In fact, diet coke is worst than regular coke.
Best of all, Aspertane and Sucralose should be viewed like black skull and crossbones and should not used at all. If you want to use sugar, use stevia. Best of all, I can drink Lemon water, sweetened with stevia. Look, they call it a diatery suppliment, but really, what else can you do besides sweeten up your food?
ReplyTwice now, I have opened a couple of cans of coke zero and noticed them bubbling over, even after I had some of it.They were not shaken up....but I was!
ReplySo how much - in terms of 355ml cans/day - of Coke do we all drink here?
ReplyI drink 2. Sometimes 3. Of Classic and as of last Friday Zero...
I love diet coke. I hate diet coke with splenda and I hate Coke Zero. I mistakenly thought Coke Zero was Diet Coke with a different "youth friendly" name. Was I wrong. I also hold stock in coke and think that they need to stop coming up with all these variations. If it's not broken don't fix it.
ReplyI love Coke Zero...snooooorrt.
ReplyDoesn't go up my nose so bad....snooooorrt.
But my credit card keeps getting wet when I cut it. Can anybody help?
SNOOOORRT
"DIEING"?
"SPENDA"?
"OBTOPSIES"??
"CAPULARIES"????
Looks like someone's had a little too much "fake sugar."
ReplyI just wasted $12.65 buying Zero. It tasted disgusting.
ReplyI was told it was exactly the same as Diet Coke. What a
lie!!! I want to know who is going to give me my money
back.
Pat Why should you get your money back based on your lousy taste in soft drink?
ReplyBy the way, there's a great subliminal message in a Coke print ad campaign that ran in Australia in the 1980s....Google it.
Pat, 12.65 for Coke Zero? How about .99 and trying one 20 oz bottle? You want your money back for your own stupidity?
Replyok. coca cola is discusting like all those sugery distcusting ingrediannts! i wana aband those discuisting drinks!
Replyamen, Stevia soda would be awesome, but unlikely. sugar is the biggest business after oil.
ReplyDIET CHERRY COKE KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!! I USUALLY DON'T DRINK SODA BECAUSE IT'S NOT SO GREAT FOR YOUR BODY, BUT ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS AND WHEN I HAVE ONE HELL OF A SWEET TOOTH, I'LL DOWN SOME! :) BUT CHERRY COKE IS MY FAV. :)
ReplyCoke zero is wonderful!!! It is so very close to regular coke without the calories.
Replyi love coke...and i think coke-zero tastes exactly the same... my fav has 2 be Vanilla coke!
Replylol this prob has nuthin 2 do with wot evry1 else is on bout but oh well.
Diet Coke is a diet version of the "new Coke" that came out in the '80s.
Coke ZERO is a diet version of Coke CLASSIC and that's why it's so much better than Diet Coke (which totally does NOT taste like cola at all to me)
ReplyAlthough I'm not a Diet Drink person, Coca Cola got it right with Coke Zero. Coke Zero does not have the severe after taste that Diet Coke and the other Diet sodas have...I am a Coke Zero Believer.
ReplyI agree with at least one thing from the above statment, you are all insane. I love the taste of Coke, but then again I would probably love the high of Cocaine...doesn't mean I will use it. Not even if it's cut with something that makes it half as potent. If you're buying into all this Diet and Zero shit you should think twice.
Now go get your healthy choice meal from McDonalds and a super-sized Coke Zero to go with your order, feel healthy America!
Bunch of obese naive idiots!
Replyokay long names there "diet black cherry vanilla coke"
Replywhoa fritz mah brain there! caffiene free coca cola classic.... more long names, whats next? "Diet Black Cherry Vanilla coke caffiene free with splenda and lime/lemon"? i would so buy that! just a whole sentence on a little can... :P
k yah that IS insane!! aspartame is killer, it kills, but i hope my step still takes it... lil bastard can rot in hell for all i care
ReplyPersonally I hate diet coke, and diet colas in general. coke zero was much of the same....
THAT said.... Coke with splenda was a hair better than tolerable.. and close to Real coke. It is the only diet coke of product than I will drink.. unfortunately not for long...
ReplyMystery ...
Coke ZERO box says caffiene free
Coke ZERO can shows caffiene as ingredient??????????
Which is it????
Replyyes when i went to calafornia i tried coke zero there and i really liked it it really fills you up i was glad when it came over to canada i mostly by it here at stores like rogers video or in staples pop machine it is way better than any other diet coke thank you for bringing coke zero out for sale. from Darren
ReplyHeres something for you all to look at if you have high speed internet.
Your Friend Aspartame
The people interviewed have used aspartame chronically since the late 80s, its effects are slow and sometimes you will not feel a thing for years - The guy on the docu who has the brain tumor was a touching moment and it makes you wonder why you would ever drink anything containing methyl ester.
Replyalways like coca cola but could not stand diet coke have tried coke zero and love it. ice cold on hot day fab
ReplyWant a coke tasting drink? Drink Coca-Cola you dunces.
Anyone who thinks Diet-Drinks are any better for you is deluded, Like Pepsi-Max, Coca Cola Zero tastes nothing like the original and I despise anyone who thinks that it does.
You won't lose any weight drinking Diet drinks over the regular variety, the only difference is less sugar and a ton of chemicals to attempt to fool you into thinking what you're tasting is sugar.
All those chemicals can't be better for you than actual sugar, which is natural. Sweeteners always leave an after-taste... always! Screw that.
Can never understand why some people prefer the taste of diet cola either.
ReplyDear Duffster,
Please use your indoor voice. It will make you seem just a tad saner when you scream and rant and call people insane and idiots. What do you care if insane idiots drop dead in this overpopulated world? If you're so smart, you'd do a bit of research before you go into your little know-it-all mode. And why don't you use your real name(Oswalt) ? You are pathetic.

Replydiet coke burns my ass when I take a doodie
Replyalways drank coke but hated diet. Have tried zero and like it a lot even more than original. Would like to see if they bring out zero & lemon.
ReplyRegardless of whether diet soda makes one's brain disintegrate - and I do think we could all stand to be a bit more cautious about some of the shite we put in our bodies - Coke Zero is, to my palate, pretty darn nasty. It does taste suspiciously similar to Tab, though I'm not sure if I'm up for a side-by-side taste test as that would require imbibing more of the aptly-named Zero again. Yecch.
ReplyTo those of you who think that Coke Zero tates like regular Coke, I have to ask what kind of mind altering substances were you on when you tasted it? Coke Zero tastes NOTHING like regular Coke. I've been a Coke drinker for 40 years and the only similarity betwen Coke Zero and regular Coke is the color. Zero(very aptly named) is the worst crap to spew from Coca-Cola since Tab. Now, Coke C2 DID taste like regular Coke, except a bit lighter and was a GREAT alternative for someone who loves Coke but can't afford all the calories. C2 had half the sugar of regular Coke and a touch of aspartame and sucralose. It tasted great but the imbeciles at Coke(at least in Texas) have discontinued it. They claimed it didn't sell. Little wonder, they did a PISS POOR job of advertising it. Coke is obviously too proud to admit that C2 died from neglect and poor representation on THEIR part. Half the people I've complained to about this hadn't even heard of the drink. Hell, it's been at least a year since they advertised it on TV, and yet every damn time I turn on the tube, there's another Zero commercial. No wonder people are at least trying it. But unfortunately, these people who keep praising Zero seem to have NO idea what Coke(fructose or sugar flavored) tastes like. Diet Coke tastes more like regular Coke than Zero any day of the week. But neither holds a candle to C2. That is why I am so furious with the Coca-Cola company right now that I'm considering boycotting ALL of their products. I haven't been this mad at them since 1985 when they discontinued Coke and came out with New Coke claiming it tasted "better" than the original. WAKE UP COCA-COLA AND BRING BACK C2!!!!!!!!
Replycoke 0 tastes ok..... what the heck is Phenekeotonics it says it contains in big BOLD print????????????? please post if anyone knows.....
ReplyThe Coke Zero line is the best line out there (I love Fanta Zero.. the only soda I like better is Sierra Mist Free, from Pepsi) --
but diet sodas scare me with all those warnings and chemicals, and sodas have too many Calories, so for now I'm just sticking to water and the occasional glass of juice!
Replylori-Phenylketonuria (also called PKU) is a disease that some people are born with where they lack an enzyme necessary to break down phenylalanine. Therefore, they have to avoid all foods with phenylalanine in them until they are over the age of 15 or so (until their brains are developed) or they will develop retardation. Phenylalanine is one of the components of nutrasweet(aspartame) so phenylketonuriacs can't have it. Just like they can't have eggs, milk, most proteins because they have phenylalanine in them.
ReplyTo Lori and Heather,
ReplyCoke Zero may taste allright to you and that is your taste and you're entitled to like whatever you want, even though I think it tastes like carbonated swamp water. My point was that Coke C2 DID taste like regular Coke, but with half the calories and a lighter, more satisfying taste. Coke "replaced" C2 with this unmitigated crap called Coke Zero and I stand by my declaration that despite Coke's deceptive advertising, Zero is not for people who like the taste of Coke, it's for another market. And I despise Coke for not putting the massive advertising dollars in to C2 that they did for Zero, so that at least most people would know what the hell it is.
Why was diet coke with splenda discontinued?
ReplyThanks for clearing up the issue of coke zero/diet coke - I never fully understood it until now!
An additional comment for "duffster":
ReplyStop being so paranoid, noone's forcing you to drink it.
