Detox Diets in Doubt
Detox (detoxification) diets have been floating around for many years. The premise is that your body has accumulated a number of toxins, and a severe change in nutrition will purge your body of these toxins.
A typical regimen may have a person eschewing things like refined sugar and caffeine, drinking a large volume of water and subsisting on raw, organic fruits and vegetables for a week or two -- usually accompanied by herbal products and other dietary supplements meant to enhance the cleansing process.
Detox diets and programs are big sellers - whether it's a liver cleanse, or the Fat Flush Diet. But do they work?
There is "absolutely no evidence" that detox diets eliminate toxins from the body, Dr. Peter Pressman of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles told Reuters Health

Detox diets work. But they don't do anything to remove toxins from your body; it just gives your body a break from adding new toxins in while your body naturally excretes the existing toxins. Also, drinking lots of water (especially with lemon) helps this process. My body feels great after a good cleanse! Try it for yourself.
