Glycemic Impact Diet (new at eDiets)

As predicted, eDiets have just introduced the Glycemic Impact Diet into their huge range of on-line diet programs:

This plan is a unique balance of using low glycemic impact, unrefined, complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fat. Low glycemic impact carbohydrates are those that have limited impact on blood sugar levels and the amount of carbohydrates a food contains per serving.

The GI Diet provides 40% Carbs, 30% Proteins, and 30% Fats:

Carbohydrates - Provided approximately 40% of calories from unrefined, complex carbohydrates, including whole grains and whole grain breads and cereals, and whole pieces of fruit instead of juice.

Protein - Provides lean protein, including fish, chicken and occasionally lean beef and pork, with vegetarian options including soy protein; tofu and textured vegetable protein.

Fat - Provides healthy fats including nuts, fatty fish, avocado and olive oil.

The meals and Recipes feature low glycemic impact foods including: vegetables and fruits, legumes, unprocessed grains including oatmeal and long-grain brown rice, and of course, dairy and meats.

We thoroughly reviewed eDiets here. The GI Impact plan looks to be an excellent addition. In all honesty it looks much like a combination between the Zone and the South Beach Diet.

I am thinking about starting the Glycemic Diet. I have done Atkins before and gained it back. I have spent money on the LA Weight loss system and gained that back.I wanted so to not spend more money on a "diet" or to lose weight but I am considering the "e-diet" site and doing the G I diet. I do not know much about the South Beach diet. I would like to lose 50 pounds by my birthday in Oct. when I will be 55yo. I would love some input if anyone has done this diet and can add any info. I remarried in Oct. 04 and of course he can eat anything and still be slim.
thank you

I hope that everyone who is trying to lose weight by trying all these new diets remembers that only exercise will give permanence.

I seem to only be able to lose weight if I am unhappy and then the pounds drop off because I don't feel like eating very much. When I am happy I eat way too much. I am also at the age where I have back and joint problems, so I figured out that what I really need to lose weight is a gentle exercise routine that I can do in my home on a daily basis.

Linda, a gentle exercise routine is a great idea. Our bodies were made to move. It might also help to get to the root of your association with food and emotion. No amount of exercise can compensate for a lot of overeating.

I did ediets for a while, I followed the regular plan that they used to put out a couple years ago, and I was successful and actually lost about 20 pounds when I combined the eating with exercise. I am the type of person who is looking for a quick fix a lot of time with my weight, but I found ediets to be very helpful because of the support boards I could follow online, and the fact that it was easy to follow the diet because it printed everything up for you...unfortunatly I didn't have the money to keep it going. I would be interested to know exactly what the Glycemic Impact Diet tells you to focus on...I think it's funny that they bill it as the diet that has kept europeans slim...can I just say that I have been to Europe and have seen a lot of fat people...everyone acts like Europeans are all skinny, and they are on an average smaller than americans, but they have their overweight people as well. The only thing that works is eating things that aren't classified as crap, and combining that with physical activity...Good Luck all.

I lost 20 lbs on the South Beach diet. It was extremely easy and made perfect sense once I read the diet and started applying the strategy. I combined a healthy eating plan which was low in carbs and plenty of exercise and water. The plan I did was one week of no carbs and fruit. I lost 5lbs that first week! The second week I ate 50 grams of complex carbs a day and only certain fruits. I had a nice healthy salad for lunch and lots of veges and salad and a protien at dinner (NO BREAD) (NO POTATOES, PASTA OR RICE). I did this for 3 months and lost 20 lbs.... I would like to try the new European diet, but heard it is rather expensive. The South Beach diet worked and I'm going to try it again instead. Good Luck to you all and hope you find something that works for you!

I think the Europeans are as rule skinnier and I've been to Paris and elsewhere and they are very slim, because they get a lot of exercise in their day.

Natural exercise - they walk a lot, and their cities are wonderful to walk in, they bicycle and they eat farily healthy.

They still purchase their food on more of a daily basis vs weekly/bi-weekly so most of their food they eat is fresh, and if they do eat out the food they eat out is healthy & appropriate portion sizes.

Take out to them is sandwiches not fried chicken.

Their teenagers eat a bit of garbage - but nothing like what's available here.

Also their stress level is a lot lower, their commute is more reasonable and they just overall have a better quality of life.

I don't know why we can't convince our government that we're worth something too. We all deserve to work at jobs that don't require unpaid overtime, that give us a minimum of 30 days off per year for vacation.

Why don't we deserve a good quality of life?

This diet is way too structured. You don't have any choice in foods. They also try and sell you five other things on the way through registration. I joined thinking it sounded like a good plan. Five minutes later called to cancel and was charged 25 dollars. You don't get any solid infoon the plan until you join. South beach is much better if you want any choices in foods. Don't get scammed like I did!!!!

I have been on the Glycemic Impact plan for a month and love it. Every meal is healthy and filling. You eat five times a day with a specific balance in your nutrients that allows your blood sugar to remain constant all day. Cravings are at 0, I am full all of the time, I have TONS more energy, I feel happier, and I've lost 10 lbs in one month despite not being able to follow the plan for a week due to illness. This is a PLAN, not a DIET, because you can follow it for life. After a while, it becomes intuitive and you internalize the 40-30-30 concept and low Glycemic Impact foods.

I have heard others bash ediets and say that it provided "nothing." For $15.95 a month, I receive support from others on my plan, nutritionist support, live online meetings with experts, and tons of articles, recipes, and tools. I don't find this to be "nothing."

To the person that said you don't have any choice in foods, you did not really look into the plan very well. There is a LARGE substitution list that we all print and keep in our kitchens. If we're out of blueberries, it tells us what fruit and in what amount and equal substitution is. As I said, it becomes intuitive...you know 1 cup blueberries equals 1 medium apple.

Also, if you TRULY called 5 minutes later, there is no charge. There is a 24 hour period where you may cancel anything and everything with no penalty. I did not realize I subscribed to the fitness plan and did not feel it was worth it. I called 3 hours after I subscribed and they cancelled the plan with no penalty.
