The 3 Hour Diet

3hourdiet.gifJorge Cruise has just published the

Amazon provide a video clip in which Jorge talks about his 3 Hour Diet. It left me shaking my head in astonishment. It's all there: "eat the foods you love (including McDonalds, Pasta, Pizza, etc)", "easy", "belly fat will come off first". He made it sound so simple that I was bewildered. Okay so the basic concepts of weight loss are simple - but the outworking is not so easy.

According to the publishers blurb:

So get ready to lose two pounds every week using The 3-Hour Diet -- with no carb counting, no calorie counting, no starvation, no deprivation, and no exercising
.
According to one of the reviewers the recommendation for anyone under 200 pounds is 1450 calories. This could be considered quite low for some - and it is essential that resistance training is included in order to maintain muscle mass.

Have a look at the book and make your own decision.

Meal Delivery
The 3 Hour Diet does offer home-delivered meals: The 3-Hour Diet at Home. The service will deliver three meals, two snacks, and one treat. Two plans are available: Basic ($20 per day) and Gourmet ($30 per day).

I have lots of trouble with eating dinner and keeping myself busy afterwords..I tend to creep back into the kitchen and indulge. It's not that I'm hungry I'm just bored..Any ideas??

I havent read the book, but I've been doing this diet for about a month. I do count calories...dont think I would eat only 1450/day if I didnt keep track. I exercise (run 30 min) and do the power moves. I've only lost about 5 pounds, which is not much to celebrate. I will say that I'm not usually feeling starvation, and I dont have that drained feeling I usually have when I restrict calories. I actually feel good and healthy. I have lost 2 inches off my waist...so I'll keep pluggin along.

Lorrie and diane, if you would like to see sample menu's and meal plans go to : 3-Day Diet at Home (web site) try google. They sell the meal plans-basic $19.95 or the gourmet for $29.95. There is a list of the menu for the week or two weeks including all six meals. Hope you find this helpful.

I have been on the 3 Hour Diet for 9 weeks. I started at 168 pounds and am now 149 so I have lost 19 pounds and around 13 inches. (Only 10-15 pounds to go!) I haven't done any exercise as of yet, but I did notice that the week that I was walking regularly, my weight dropped faster. I have to confess that the one part of the diet that I'm not so good at is making sure I drink the amount of water I'm supposed to. 64 oz a day is a lot!

The book does list foods in each food group so you can custom plan your meals, it also has some recipes (I love the Veggie Lasagna) and it has lists of snacks and treats. It also lists some fast food places you can go for different meals and what to order. It lists some frozen meals as well.

The first week was a little hard getting used to the portion sizes. I have done a strict calorie counting diet in the past and although I do count calories sometimes on this diet (only for snacks and treats) this plan is much easier to follow. I also feel like I am eating healthier balanced meals than I ever have before. I had pretty bad eating habits, where I wouldn't eat until like 2 in the afternoon because I just didn't think about it. Then I would eat a huge dinner and snack all day. I like the order provided in this diet. It may be common sense to a lot of people, but it's a lot easier to follow your common sense when you have a plan right there in front of you that takes you step by step through it.

My usual breakfast is: 1/2 a bagel, 1 Tbsp flavored cream cheese, 1/2 banana, 6 oz light yogurt, 6 oz 1% milk, and a string cheese. OR I have 2 eggs, scrambled with an ounce of cheese, and a piece of toast with 1 tsp of flax oil on top and a piece of fruit.

My usual snack is: 1 snack cup of applesauce, OR a 100 calorie pack, OR 12 cashews, etc

My usual lunch is: a turkey sandwich (2 slices 1/2 calorie bread, 2 turkey slices- an oz a piece- and 1 Tbsp parmesan cheese on top, and mustard) and 2 cups green salad with 1 Tbsp light dressing. OR a chicken and cheese quesadilla (1.5 oz chicken, 1.5 oz cheese, one wheat tortilla folded in half) and 1 cup tomato soup and 6 cashews.

My usual snack is: 1 fat-free pudding cup, OR 6 cadbury chocolate eggs, OR 1/2 cup frozen yogurt, 1/2 a regular sized light Jamba Juice, OR 100 calories worth of anything I'm craving, etc.

My usual dinner is: 3 oz grilled meat, 1/3 cup brown rice, 1 cup steamed broccoli with 1 tsp flax oil drizzled on top. OR I just come up with something that has my protein, my carbs, my veggies and my fat. I never count calories for my main meals.

My usual treat at night is: A York Peppermint Pattie OR 1 cup airpopped popcorn, OR 1 Reeses PB Cup, ETC.

In the book, Jorge has a whole chapter on emotional eating and he suggests turning to people instead of food when you are down and need a pick me up. He suggests creating a support group (for me it was my husband and family) to talk to about how you are feeling and how you REALLY want to just eat and eat, but you know there's no point because you aren't hungry. I used to eat when I was bored, but now I know that it's just not TIME to eat. So I try to find something else to do. Now, there are times that I can't find anything so I pop open a diet soda. There are no limits to the amount of diet soda you can drink.

Anyway, I have had a ton of success on this diet and I'm really happy with it. I recommend it to everyone that wants to lose weight and doesn't want to do it by drinking a shake instead of eating real food. I feel like the book offers real solutions for real people. Who doesn't stop by McD's every so often when they are on the run? The reason why this diet advertises that there is no deprivation is because there is no food that is off limits. There are guidelines as to how much you can eat, like you can eat 15 french fries, but hey, you can have those french fries! So what if it's a 1450 calorie diet? It makes it doable and sometimes that's all that we lazy people need. :)

Have fun doing the diet, and shopping for your smaller clothes, I sure am!

you should try eating fruits for snack. wenever i come home from school i want to( and i mean REALLY want to) pig out on all the deserts and leftovers at home but if you grab something like an apple that takes a long time to finish then itll take your mind off of food. also try gum or hard candy that will last a long time. if the hard candy tastes realy good then youll like eating it and you might even prefer it.im not sure if there is any... but try to get fat free gum or hard candy.

by the ways, counting calories does work and if you eat little calories a day then you will lose weight. ilost 15 pounds after 2 months just from counting calories... of course i might have been eating a little to little calories(800-1000) i never starved because since im a vegetarian i eat alot of the vegetable protien stuff and those are like 100 calories a burger and taste real to me(it might not taste real to you because i havent had meat in a realy long time though) but you should try those because those are realy low calorie plus tons of protien.

well i hope i was some help to somebody.....

so i had to change my diet plan but i m really worried if i regain the weight after changing my diet plan ..plz can anybody here tell me is there any chance to regain weight if i do 3 -hour diet immidiete after stopping that atkins diet???

and one more thing suppose i have my breakfast at 10 am,so i will have my dinner at 10 pm but suddenly if something comes up ,where i m bound to have my dinner at 7 or 8 pm which is my snack time ...what should i do in that situation???? should i cut down my snack and eat the dinner and goto bed ???????????????

I am not sure about gaining weight by switching to the 3 hour diet, but...

If you dinner gets bumped to your snack time you should either eat a bigger snack and a smaller dinner, or just eat at 7 or 8pm and go to bed a hour or two later.

ALCOHOL: Alcohol should be avoided for the most part unless you are over a certain age(50+ i think?) when a glass of wine a day actually becomes benefial to your health. Alcohol is a nutrient totally seperate from carbs, fat, and protiens. It is not needed for any processes in the body, therefore filling up other foods would be better for you.

If i am wrong about somthing please correct me :)

How should you figure about how many calories you should eat per meal? Do you just divide the 1400 any way you want?

Reply
Karen

I am reading the book now. A correction needs to be made with regards to the amount of calories you will be eating. Assuming you weigh less than 200 pounds, then you will eat around 400 calories at each meal and your snacks will need to equal around 100 each, and your treat should be around 50. That is where this magical number of 1450 calories comes from. If you weigh more than 200 lbs, than you will consume more food (there is a section pertaining to the right number of calories for your body). Thus, the more you weigh, the more you will be allowed to eat.

Second, you don't count calories because portion size is figured out for you, and therefore you do not need to figure out how many calories a certain food has. I happen to know a lot of people need to learn correct portion sizes anyway. The 3-hour planner is wonderful. A visual reminder on correct portion size is located on this planner.

I do have one issue with this diet, and that is I prepare a large evening meal daily for my family of six children (three step kids and three of my own), myself and my husband. The kids usually want to eat around 5 pm (usually because they are starving by the time they get home from school during the school year), and my husband does heavy physical labor all day at work and is very hungry at 5:00 p.m. also. Thus, I have to figure out how to make my meals and snacks work prior to the evening meal. My baby is up bright and early by 6:00 a.m. and ready to eat. The book suggests you eat within one hour of rising, so that would give me a breakfast of 7:00 a.m., first snack at 10:00 a.m., lunch at 1:00, second snack at 4:00, and my evening meal at 7:00 with my treat following shortly thereafter. Now I can't eat with everyone else.

I weigh 165 lbs now (I had a baby six months ago) and I am looking forward to being back to my prepregnancy weight of 145 lbs (maybe I can get down to 130, the weight I was prior to having my first child six years ago). I started the diet today and I have not been in the least bit hungry. I have my cell phone's alarm set to ring every three hours and so far it is a no brainer.

Best of luck to anyone doing this diet. I find no fault with maintaining correct portion size for each meal and each snack. I do not think the comments made about restricting calories is fair since most people need to learn this anyway. I need to retrain my body to be satisfied on less food since having my baby anyway. I have lived on portion controlled food most of my life and have been strong and active and have not felt deprived. Prior to pregnancy I have enjoyed a normal, healthy weight as a result. With this pregnancy I am considerably older (nearly 40) and this baby weight was unwilling to budge. I feel this is a sensible book with sound advice.

I've been doing the diet for going on 2 weeks now with one small glitch over a weekend trip taken where there were two days that I didn't get to every meal at quite three hours due to travel time. I learned to be more prepared next time and make sure I had plenty of snacks and meals with me in case we were in a place that we couldn't stop (traveling through desert) For all of you out there that have had past problems with "constipation" I can tell you that I've lived with that problem for my entire life. Since starting this diet I am regular for the first time in my life. I finally feel what it's like to be "normal". I used to start eating only in the afternoon and evening and I don't think i ate enough throughout the day to properly push everything out. Now that I eat every 3 hours it's nothing short of amazing for me. I've lost about 2lbs but plan to keep eating this way for life. It's pretty much like weight watchers except you don't have to keep track of your points. You can pick and match meals as you choose, nothing off limits. You can eat fast food as long as you stick to recommended choices or make your own meals. They even have choices for gas station store stops, how can you go wrong? As long as you stick to the recommended choices you don't have to count. He's got everything listed that meets the calorie requirements and balance for all meals and snacks so all you really have to do is eat every 3 hours. I've set my alarm on my phone to go off every 3 hours so I know it's time to eat. I'll post more as I go, but it's really a great way to eat. You're in control of the foods you choose so you can combine them any way you want. The cost of the book is a very small price to pay to get started and embark on a new healthy life style. I've just added the recommended ground flax and flax supplements today so I'll let you all know how that works for me too. Good luck!

I have a 2 year old. Every since her birth, I have learned that her little body speaks very loudly to her weather it be sleeping, going potty or eating. When it is time to do any of the three (especially eating) she lets us know. It turns out that she wants food about every 3 hours, even if it is a cup of juice. I have also noticed the same behavior in my active and trim 6 year old who never lacks energy yet doesn't gain (fat) weight with approximately 6 meals a day. Another thing I have noticed are the types of food coorelates to certain behavior. More (bad) sugar, more (bad or nervous) activity. More good (fruit) sugar, more good behavior. The young human body acts and reacts the way God intended for the adult human body to act and react to proper food intake. In conclusion, what my kids have been telling me for free, this book (not to knock the book at all) gives for a few bucks. Maybe I should get write a book and get paid for my findings, "Eating like a Child."

Crazy customer service! Never reply, and no responsiblity. They use crafy trick in business. I said that I'm going to order after I check the email from them after full consideration, but they just shipped it to me. They said they sent the email to me without any proof. I did not receive any email from them. They do not have any responsiblity even though I did not allow to pay when I talk to the personnel.

Even in offering discount, they confuse cusomer. I asked them to listen the past conversation. They say they do not record it! HAHAHA! I tried to contact to them several time, but they are not available whenever I tried to contact. After they say they are going to call back, it never happened.

It is so disappointing! Shame on you!

I started this diet last Tues and today its Easter, so Happy Easter to everyone. Last Tuesday morning at 7:30am I weighed in at 202.2 and this morning at 7:30am I weighed in at 197.8 but the real calculation will be Tues morning, which will mark the whole one week. I've been doing nothing except the 3 hour meals and doing the 10000 steps on my treadmill..but I dont do the steps all in one shot. I do 5000 steps in morning and 5000 steps in the evening. After I reach the 190lb mark I will incorporate some weights. But for now the treadmill seems to be helping me tremendously. My goal is to reach 165lbs, by the end of June when my son returns from overseas where he is currently serving in the USA Army, he is going to be married while on his leave..and Im so happy and sad..:) anyhow, I haven't seem him since last yr. And Im so excited.......but for this diet, it really works, even after days I beginning to feel more energetic!! I would have never gotten on that treadmill with the way my eating patterns used to be. wish me luck!! thanks

My wife and I started this one month ago. We've both already lost 10 pounds each. The first couple of weeks was a major shock to me because I'm the type who is always hungry. However, now I'm pretty good and don't have too much trouble sticking to the 3 hours. I do count from when my last meal starts, I drink almost 3 liters of water every day, and I tend to eat many of the same foods.

I start with two egg tacos and an orange most days. Then it's cottage cheese and some fruit. Then a lunch that includes salad, one of those 100 calorie snack packs for a treat, and then dinner. I eat plenty of veggies because it's the best way to get full on so few calories.

I'm not a chronic dieter but I've been on the fitness roller coaster for years. This has been the fastest progress I've ever seen. I feel strong, my blood pressure is way down, and my energy level stays stable all day. Our current workout routine includes 3 days of weight lifting and 3 days of aerobics each week as well. This sounds great but I've been on that plan for much longer than this last month, without anywhere near this level of success.

I do have one question. Why not 2 hours, or 2.5 hours? I skimmed through the book (my wife read it) and can't find a reason for not eating just a bit early. I do so occasionally when I'm totally famished or when I need to bend my schedule a bit. I'll put in 2.5 hours before and after a snack to make sure my meal lines up with my day.

I really believe this is more of a lifestyle than a diet. I'm looking forward to a new warddrobe in about another month.

Sue, if you feel unbelievably hungry at night, try drinking a glass of fruit juice - it doesn't require much digestion and contains sugar - to keep you from having hunger pangs.

I have a serious question about the 3-hour plan. It seems logically thought out, based on the science presented. Whether or not the medical/scientific information presented is entirely accurate and not selected to promote this diet is a different question.
Regardless of the accuracy, if the 3-hour span between meals is formulated by making sure that the 'starvation mode' never turns on, what about eating every 2 hours? Or, eating a small bite or snack every hour? Would any frequency of eating with no more than 3 hours gaps be just as beneficial?
I haven't been able to find any information on whether eating every 2.5 hours, or 2 hours is bad for the metabolism. And the explaination doesn't seem to decry eating more frequently. Any nutritionists/sceintists/doctors/dieticians/experienced dieters with solid info out there to answer this question?
Thanks.

I just got the book yesterday. It is very informative and makes a lot of sense. However, I realized that I was STARVING before and after the first snack. I think that I am willing to put in a bit more physical activity in order to balance out the additional calories I will need. My head literally feels like I am starving myself. Did anyone else experience this? Oh, I just reached over and realized I didn't finish my milk from my first meal. Perhaps I underate. Still, would be interested in knowing how those first few days were for those of you who are also trying out the plan (i don't use the d-word). :0

Marilyn - my feedback...
You are a registered dietician? Please explain to me how an active healthy young woman loses weight without cutting calories? Is there some magic wand that you possess that I'm not aware of? Isn't the whole point of a dietician to teach people how to eat healthy and the appropriate number of calories to accomplish their goals? So with that in mind wouldn't a book that teaches some healthy techniques that are easy to implement be something that you would welcome instead of bash?
I've heard the same information in a million different ways but sometimes it takes a new way of communicating a message to flip the switch which helps make the connection for you. I'm impressed with the way that Jorge has made the information easy to understand and implement. There is nothing new that I didn't already know but by making the plan so simple and do-able instead of getting bogged down in the details the book gives you some small steps you can take toward doing what we all need to do. I think it's a great way to get me out of the all or nothing thinking that can make trying to lose weight so challenging.
