The 3 Hour Diet
Amazon provide a video clip in which Jorge talks about his 3 Hour Diet. It left me shaking my head in astonishment. It's all there: "eat the foods you love (including McDonalds, Pasta, Pizza, etc)", "easy", "belly fat will come off first". He made it sound so simple that I was bewildered. Okay so the basic concepts of weight loss are simple - but the outworking is not so easy. According to the publishers blurb:
Jorge Cruise has just published the
So get ready to lose two pounds every week using The 3-Hour Diet -- with no carb counting, no calorie counting, no starvation, no deprivation, and no exercising
.
According to one of the reviewers the recommendation for anyone under 200 pounds is 1450 calories. This could be considered quite low for some - and it is essential that resistance training is included in order to maintain muscle mass.
Have a look at the book and make your own decision.
Meal Delivery
The 3 Hour Diet does offer home-delivered meals: The 3-Hour Diet at Home. The service will deliver three meals, two snacks, and one treat. Two plans are available: Basic ($20 per day) and Gourmet ($30 per day).
I have a question really. I was wondering if the book includes a list of what you can eat, i.e. takeout, etc.
ReplyThis diet works, but there is no rocket science involved here. I am so amazed how this guy wrote a book about a topic which should be nothing more than a paragraph. But of course, more than 1/2 his book has blank pages, which he refers as your person food log or whatever.
ReplyWell, here I go AGAIN. I usually forget I'm trying to lose weight and lose my mind around lunchtime. Maybe, just maybe, this will really work. If I get through the whole...........day,
ReplyI'll be so motivated. Right now I'm waiting for 12:45 to roll around. Be back to let you know how I make out.
I think this diet sounds great. My only concern is being a college student with a scattered schedule, it's really difficult to eat at a consistent pattern. I try to follow three hours as much as possible, it's just hard to fit it in. DO i have to like wake up at 7:30, eat at 8, then at 11, then at 2 then at 5?? that doesn't sound right. Basically I'm not sure how to incorporate the diet so i can lose the weight being on a college student's crazy schedule. Oh and I am also in recovery of anorexia, bulimia so the weight came back fast!
Replythanks
Lisa, it has to fit into your schedule, or else you won't be able to stick with it. This means you have to plan ahead, and take with you the food that you will eat that day. My meals tend to follow this pattern; 7am b/fast, 10am Meal 2 (call it morning tea if you want), 12.30 lunch, 3pm Meal 4, 6pm dinner.
The 10am and 3pm work in with normal break times in a lot of environments. You just have to find what works for you.
ReplyI read about his program in Woman's World Magazine, I've tried it almost a week, I am down 2 pounds. It so far is the best I have tried yet. (I have tried alot)I'm going to purchase the book today so I can make sure I'm doing it correct. I'm wanting a program I can learn to live with, without weighing, measuring, and feeling deprived. Wish me Luck....
ReplyI like this diet or should I say easy way of life. I bought the book and I haven't had the chance to sit down and really read it but I love the fact that i don't have to give up any foods I like...even chocolate. Plus I like the fact that I don't have to count points...a no brainer...:)
It's got my vote!
ReplyThe 3 hour diet sounds fantastic. I bought the book, skimmed through, but can't seem to find information about coffee. I drink 3-4 cups each morning. Does anyone know if that affects the diet and if you can put fat free creamer in it or what the deal is? Also, I haven't been able to figure out if you eat 3 hours after you finish a meal or exactly 3 hours from meal to meal. What if it takes you 25 minutes to eat? I can't wait to start, but I want to do it right. I need these questions answered if anyone knows....thanks a bunch!
ReplyPatty, it is 3 hours from the end of one meal to the beginning of the next. The time it takes to eat is not part of the 3 hours.
Haha, I've been following the 3 hour diet for months and didn't even know it! 3 hours between meals was just a number that I came up with on my own as a good way to spread my meals throughout the day. Man, I should have realized I was on to something and sold a book before this other guy. Oh well...
ReplyBen -- you, me, and thousands of others eat this way. There's always a clever marketer out there ready to sell something old like it's brand new.
I figure eating often helped to keep my energy levels constant and prevented any hypoglycemic symptoms that I sometimes get.
ReplyPatty, don't skim through it, the details will help you more than you think. The coffee question is answered in there. The 3-hour plan example on page 64 lists 1 cup coffee and 1 non-dairy liquid creamer under the freebie tracker section. Jorge also mentions greet tea as a natural caffeine that will help boost your metabolism. It seems like a great plan and I'm just getting started on it right now. I love the profiles of the success stories too, and none of them have the ever-present (in other diet books and promotions) disclaimer line: "Results may not be the same for everyone". Anything that lists that over and over is probably not gonna work. Any skeptics out there that don't think eating healthy, regularly, and drinking water won't work, especially along with some recommended but not manditory exercise.....do you have a better plan? Starving yourself or cutting out important parts of your diet doesn't sound any more healthy than over-eating. So why not give healthy eating a try and stop making excuses as to why something might not work just because it requires a little effort on your part. Sorry to put it like that, but anyone can put something down, it takes some courage to stand up and take control of the situation. Good luck to all of you and may God bless you on your journey to healthy living.
ReplyI don't think it's a clever way of presenting something that everyone already knows. A lot of people might know that healthy snacking throughout the day is healthy, but not know why. A lot of people go entire days without eating and then gorge themselves on one meal. I think this is just a great eye-opener to how we should all be eating, healthy and regularly. For $24.95, I got to learn why my body works the way it does and why it's a good idea to eat healthy and regularly. A lot of people just don't take it all as seriously as they should and I'm glad Jorge came out with this book.
There's a lot of knowledge out there that a lot of people "know about", but sometimes a good book on a subject allows you to learn the important details that aren't so common knowledge.
ReplyOkay, I'm an Adkins fan, but after seeing my Sister re-gain 40+ lbs in a couple of months of going off the maintenance part, I'm looking for a diet where I can "not call it a diet"... a lifestyle change if you will... something that will complement my excersize plan providing enough fuel to succcessfully achieve a stronger body as well as "EASY"... I'll be purchasing your book and see what happens! If this works... I'll say a BIG "THANK YOU"...!
ReplyThis sounds doable, I will be starting soon. I need to get the family on time managemet so I can take care of them and myself.
ReplyA dietitian's assessment: The 3-Hour Diet is a traditional low-carb diet despite the book's denial of that simple fact. 1,400 calories automatically restricts the amount and variety of grains, fruit, some vegetables and dairy products, leaving the obvious protein foods to make up the balance of calories. Disguised as a healthy approach, there's nothing healthy anymore about dieting to lose weight. The moment calories are restricted, dieting behaviour sets in. To be fair to Mr. Cruise, the journal portion of the book is useful. I am certain that one of the dietitians in his advisory circle must have recommended this journal to be a key component of the book. It does occupy 1/3 of the book's pages.
Instead,I would suggest that you access the following websites:
1)http://www.foodandhealth.com/index2.php and
2)mypyramid.com, and an excellent book entitled
3)The Rules of "Normal" Eating, A commonsense approach for dieters, overeaters, undereaters, emotional eaters, and everyone inbetween! by Karen R. Koenig. She is no relation to me, and I don't get a royalty for mentioning this, it's just my professional opinion. You'll be eternally grateful.
Without a doubt, dividing calories up throughout the day (disguised as eating every 3 hours) is automatically going to be beneficial for digestion and metabolism. Coupled with restricting calories to 1,400, weight loss is bound to occur for a little while, perhaps. However, for some people, and one person is way too many for a dietetic professional, restricting calories can trigger binging, and a whole host of other eating problems.
ReplyHow many different ways can some publishers and authors repackage the same information? It appears that the number of different ways may be dwindling due to savvy readers like ourselves who are questioning the value of "dieting" to lose weight. Professional dietitians (who unfortunately do not make million'$ with their food and nutrition advice) are partnering with skilled therapists to encourage people to become more knowledgeable about a complex subject that cannot be simplified to solve issues surrounding weight.
Your feedback would be appreciated,
Marilyn
Two small corrections to the previous blog:
Reply1. mypyramid.org
2. 1450 calories.
My apologies.
Thanks for the info, Marilyn. You probably mean, mypyramid.gov (mypyramid.org is a spoof on the USDA gov. pyramid).
ReplyI am one person, possibly in the entire US, that had NO idea that eating several small portions, over the entire day, would help with loosing weight.
I AM a person that doesn't start eating until 2pm and then doesn't stop until around 4 am. I am also a person that eats when I'm not hungry.
I'm going to give this book a try. Hell I've spent more than $25 on other fad diets so why not this one?
ReplyI have struggled with weight all of my life but this program sounds finally like something that would work for me.
Can anyone, please give me an example of how it works and an average day of what and when you eat. Have you incorporated any exercise in it? How much is your average weight lose per week on this diet?
ReplyI'd like to know more about the 3hr diet what do I eat and how often should I exercise and how fast do I see results?
ReplyHas anyone out there had any sustained weight-loss with this program? How much have you lost and how long have you kept it off?
ReplyOkay, at first it all sounds great... "eat every 3 hours and you don't have to count points, calories, carbs..etc; Then I go on to read that there is a calorie limit of 1450??? So, how do you figure that if you are not counting calories?????
ReplyIt doesn't too bad, if you small amounts of whatever you want every 3 hours.
ReplyFor the last 3 days I have been eatting 6 small a day and will keep you all posted on my loss.
ReplyI have not seen one comment where a person folowed this diet and actually lost weight. Is there anyone out there who has? Please fill me in. ALSO, hubby comes home and likes to have dinner with me. I can eat less but I sit with him and keep eating. How has anyone handled that?
Replyi just started the 3 hour diet 2 weeks ago and i've lost 4 ibs already. it is a great diet and i get to eat whatever i want and im starting to feel better, don't forget to drink the water it plays a big part in this diet. i need to stick to this diet because im eating a balanced meal every three hours plus my snacks life to me is great im losing weight and eating snacks yah. it can't get any better then this.
ReplyI heard about this diet through my sister. She has lost 70 lbs on it, and her husband has dropped 200lbs. It works great if you can adapt the lifestyle!
ReplyFrancine: I know nothing about this diet, but what I do for portion control (helps weight loss and keeping a budget, too) is that I make/defrost just enough for a meal, for carb and protein. I make 8oz meat exactly, and split that in 2 for me and my husband. 1 small potato for each, and so on. If it is something like beans, I make a ton and portion and freeze. I portion and freeze meat and chicken too. The only thing that I make without controlling portions is salad or vegetables. So I bring the plates already made to the table, and the salad.
ReplyTo everyone doubting this diet, it really works. I started August 27, 2005 and as of today I am 39 pounds down. The key is portion control and exercise. Also, drink water..lots and lots of water.
Replyi bought the 3hr diet and i want to know did you have set meal plans to go by to lose the weight?
ReplyI just ordered this book since the concept seems like it should work. I know that when I am on any weightloss plan were I eat every few hours it speeds up my metabolism. I am really insterested to see how this guy could write a whole book about this.
ReplyIf your a diabetic, should you cut out more of the starches? I did this for several months and had some luck, but was wondering about starches
ReplyI started this program about a week ago and have lost about 2 pounds and have not been hungry. The problem I have is timing with my husband. He goes to work early so he has breakfast at 6:00 a.m. and follows the 3 hour schedule but I eat breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and we can't seem to reach a dinner time that works. Any help for this would be greatly appreciated!
ReplyHELLO EVERYONE, I AM SO GLAD I HAVE FOUND THIS GROUP ANYWAY I AM GOING TO PURCHASE THIS BOOK TODAY. I HAVE BEEN ON SO MANY DIFFERENT DIETS AD I AM TRULY AT MY WITS END, I HOPE THIS WILL HELP ME BECAUSE I AM WILLING TO GIVE IT MY ALL AND STICK WITH IT IN ORDER TO REALLY SEE THE RESULTS!!! I HAVE READ SO MANY DIFFERENT REVIEWS ABOUT IT, GOOD AS WELL AS BAD AND I UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING ISN'T FOR EVERYONE, THEREFORE I HAVE DECIDED TO TRY IY FOR MYSELF, BESIDES IT'S NOT TO MUCH OF AN INVESTMENT FINANCIALLY AND IT DOESN'T REQUIRE SPENDING ON ANY SPECTACULAR FOODS JUST NORMAL EVERYDAY DISHES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND DISCIPLINE!! HAS ANYONE HERE HAD ANY SUBSTANCIAL WEIGHT LOSS ON THIS PLAN OR MAYBE KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS AND HAVE KEPT IT OFF? WHAT ARE SOME IDEAS OF THE TYPES OF FOOD TO EAT?
ReplyBeyanca...I have lost 40 pounds and have to lose 32 more until my goal. There's no specific foods to eat, just eat in moderation and drink a lot of water. You don't HAVE to exercise, but it speeds up the progress.
ReplyI saw the 3-hour diet on the Tyra Banks show yesterday and i started eating every three hours. SOmetimes i eat out of boredom. Can anyone suggest something that really keeps your mind off of food for the in between time?
ReplyWhat about alcohol??
Replywell i bought a treadmill about a month ago.i get on it for about 45 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. im 158 lbs and i want to lose 15 to 20 lbs. i have tried to eat less and every three to four hours a day, but at night i get so hungry that i end up pigging out and feeling guilty afterwards.
ReplyThis is nothing new, I've been doing this for a few weeks now (nothing to do with this book)and I've lost weight. Also, I don't think calorie restriction is helpfull from what I've read. Eating every 3 hours at maintenance calories mixed with cardio and weights on alternate days will work for anyone.
ReplyHi Trisha, being able to eat every 3 hours should keep your mind off of food but if it doesn't, I find drinking flavored water is good way not to consume any calories but keep taste in your mouth.
ReplyThe more i look at this diet the more questions i have. It seems like a good concept, but i dont quite understand why it works.
ReplyLosing weight always sounds easy. Burn more calories than you consume. What that doesn't address is why we eat - boredom, stress, emotions, think always about food. What do we do about that? If I can overcome why I overeat - maybe I won't keep losing and gaining 25 pounds. I hate that I keep losing, and then gaining it all back. It makes me feel terrible. There are so many diet books and products out there, but I haven't found anything that addresses why we over-eat!!! Anyone know of any? I was thinking about buying the three hour diet just so I have a program to stick to.
ReplyI read the book in one sitting. Not because it's good, but because it's basically the same information over and over. Some things in the book are also inaccurate and there is nothing revolutionary in it.
ReplyIt's basically just eating every three hours and eating healthy foods (which he goes on about in later chapters). I actually found it to be surprisingly deceptive.
Another day, another remake on the low calorie diet.
av been tryin to keep up wid dis diet but i av trouble with my snacks. what snacks can i av??? wud sum 1 help me wid a daily healthy menu which i could try???
