Burger King's Big Fat Breakfast

Burger King has added a few new items to it's breakfast menu:

The Enormous Omelet Sandwich carries 730 calories and 47 grams of fat and comes with two eggs, sausage, three strips of bacon and two slices of melted American cheese on a bun.

The response from Burger King officials is enlightening:

Officials at Miami-based Burger King Corp. said that healthier choices are also available, but surveys showed customers wanted bigger sandwiches.

"By expanding our indulgent breakfast sandwich menu, Burger King restaurants now offer even more alternatives for our guests who want a convenient and filling breakfast,"

Let's read that again - "healthier choices are also available, BUT". In other words admitting that the new sandwich is unhealthy. Are Burger King in trouble? Is this an attempt to garner any customers possible? McDonald's have gone from strength to strength - because they have changed their image (with their lavish I'm lovin it campaigns). Burger King seem to be going in the opposite direction.

Or maybe the food police are wrong. Maybe there is a huge hungry customer-base out there - just hanging out to eat 47 grams of fat for breakfast.

Just coincidentally I had my standard breakfast low carb breakfast this morning:
1 serving - Mock French Toast (eggs, cream, crushed pork rinds)
1 SF Syrup
5 Sausage Links
Total 49g Fat

I have lost over 180 pounds in the last year eating similar meals, so it is hardly the fat in the diet that made me fat. It was finally accepting fat in my diet that got me back from severe obesity to healthy living, as defined by my doc, my blood work, my exercise performance, and my outlook on life. Haven't we learned Kayla that the last 20 years obsession with low fat, low cal dieting has only seen the populace waist size increase.

While some fast food place's food is indeed disgusting, the fat content in this meal is not so outrageous.

We have a choice, we can choose the "Big Fat Breakfast" or choose something with less calories and fat on the menu.

We have a choice?

While the idea of a 50 fat gram breakfast seams repulsive to me, this is not the reason we are all fat. Excessive amounts of food mostly overprocessed, high in sugar, not to mention sedantary lifestyles is the reason most people are fat. Burger King isn't making anyone buy this sandwich. People need to start taking responsability for their health.

Actuallly, fast food is not what makes people "fat." People, including you, are "fat" because they think "fast food" is supposed to be eaten at every meal, every single day.

Fast food, including food from McDonald's and Burger King, is meant to be there when you do not have time to make yourself a healthy meal. It is an easy alternative for those times, and is NOT meant to be used as an excuse to be lazy.

Therefore, no person can blame McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, or any other fast food restaurant for getting them "fat." We all know it wasn't the restaurant's fault...

...you got yourself fat.

This, however, is not intended to blame anyone. It is just to try and get people to realize that there is too big of a deal about "weight" and "fat" going on today.

Who cares?!?! Live life, and quit worrying so much about a little thing called "weight." Unless it's affecting your life, weight should not be taken so seriously.

Take responsibility for your own weight, though. Your weight is not in any way the fault of anyone but yourself. Through genetics, that is debatable... but fast food restaurants are not to blame just because you like to "endulge" in their breakfast, lunch, and dinner items.

I eat an omelet with cheese and meat most days of the week. No bread. This keeps five sizes off my butt. I would buy that big ole sandwich, loose the bread and get a fork. Burger King knows what they are doing. That sandwich meets the need of a low carb diet while with the bread suits a non dieter. This way they don't have to mess with two menu items.

Stop blaming the fast food restaurants. They did not hold a gun to your head and force you to eat there. If your fat asses are to lazy to work out, then blame yourselves. With my busy schedule I eat at a fast food restaurant quite a few days a week, However I'm at the weight, because I either work out at home, or go to the gym. STOP BEING LAZY.

I'd never eat breakfast at a fast food place because it wouldn't fill me up and almost any option has tons of calories. Why don't fast food places have like, mini boxes of cereal and milk combos? McDonald's at least has a fruit/yogurt parfait and their new fruit salad dish. Still, no one is forcing people to stop at BK every morning to get the omelette sandwich or the croissant bacon egg thing. Think about it, how much extra work is it really to have a quick bowl of cereal in the morning and grab an apple to eat on the way to work? People really are just lazy, is all.

I agree Spectra. Heck, get a granola bar if you can't cook breakfast. People don't get the Omelet Sandwich cause it is "fast", they get it cause they want to eat all that grease.

No way! this sandwhich rocks! I have 15% body fat, 24, work out 4 times a week for an hour each time.I have this sandwich at least once a week! This is the best sandwhich ever made! ever! It keeps you full for 4 hours, and it is honestly soooo good. Think about it i have two breakfest sandwiches in the morning, and this is the same as two sandwichces! every 3 days i have a "cheat meal" and this is it! I promise you, everyone, this is a awsome sandwich!

I actually went and got an Enormous Omelet Sandwich for breakfast this morning. I really enjoyed it. Am I worried that this will make me fat? No, considering:

* I aim for 3000 calories a day while I'm losing weight, and tend to eat 5 meals in a day, so 600 calories per meal. This is a mere 130 calories over my usual breakfast.
* I was overdue for a carb load, so I didn't worry about the white flour.
* I had to walk 5.2 miles total (according to Yahoo Maps) to get it.

It is true for all of you who say that it is not the fast food restarants fault. They did not force you to eat their food, you chose to or whoever else chose to but it is true that their food is very unhealthy. They put so much grease into their food but one of my siblings work there and she told me that most people that work there dont eat it because they know what is in it! People, this IS what is making you fat but it is called diets!! simply cut down. And exersise a bit! But their food is very good! but i dont eat it very often! Just be smart with what u eat!

I work for the Burger King that is in my town and I eat two tripple stackers a day. I even go on my days off. For the whole getting fat thing I have lost forty pounds, and weigh a nice healthy 130 lbs.

you know you're supposed to consume most of your daily requirements in the morning, so you can eat that sandwich but later in the day, keep in mind what you had for breakfast.

Hi. I have been reading these posts. I am someone who has lost 90 pounds in 6 months and have kept it off for the last 10 years due to high complex carbohydrate and protein food plan. Everyone has a point here: Bread and sugar make you fat - but so do proteins if not eaten in moderation. We have become a society that does not know the meaning of the word "moderation". Everything is "super-size" this "mega-size" that.. Also, we, as country, as "cultured" as we are, refuse to acknowledge that we are a very lazy group of people in general and are governed by instant gratification. Those two characteristic traits are what makes Americans obese. Oh, I forgot one other character trait that keeps us fat: LIES WE TELL OURSELVES AND EACH OTHER.

I read a good amount of posts like this and I can see both sides of the coin. Americans are lazy, and instant gratification usually comes with a price tag. Do you honestly think that something that would normally take about 30 minutes to cook that is cooked in 2 minutes can at all be healthy for you?
Burger King and Corporate America are indeed trying to enslave us for the top two percent, and have monopolized the food market through marketing and resource managment. In order to fight escalating prices (of natural food), we need to be smarter and eat healthier. "Fight the machine". Remember oil? We pulled that stunt twice and it lowered the price through decreased demand. If we boycot thier food, it will not amaze me if they are forced to adopt other menu choices in order to spare thier shareholders. We can escape the corporate machine, but we will need to play by thier rules first.

Wow, coming from somewhat educated individuals(Im assuming now) you people are seemingly whats wrong with America today. Blaming someone else for your own problem. If your fat, dont eat fatting food, and get some exercise. I hate when people generalize Americans as fat, when everyone I know/ socialize with is very healthy and not one person is obese. Its a few lazy people sitting on their asses all day that give us a bad name. Most Americans realize this, so how do we "refuse" to acknowledge this? Some people have misconceptions in their mind about everything.
