Crohn's Disease Mistaken For Anorexia
A health expert in the UK has warned that Crohn's disease is sometimes be misdiagnosed as Anorexia - particularly in young teenagers:
"Young teenagers may be losing weight and then they stop eating because their condition makes it painful to eat."If they haven't got any other symptoms, their condition can be classed as anorexia.
"It's not something that happens frequently, but it does occur."
Crohn's disease affects any part of the digestive tract (but usually the small intestine). The inflammation causes pain and frequent diarrhea.
It's important to note that "This is an issue which is numerically very small, but individually very important."
