Yogurt: The New Weight Loss Supplement

The International Journal of Obesity has published an interesting study examining the effect of calcium (and yogurt/yoghurt) on weight loss. WebMD reports:
Researchers found that obese adults who ate three servings of fat-free yogurt a day as part of a reduced-calorie diet lost 22% more weight and 61% more body fat than those who simply cut calories and didn't bone up on calcium. Yogurt eaters also lost 81% more fat in the stomach area than non-yogurt eaters.
What's even more incredible is that "lean tissue loss was reduced by 31% on the yogurt diet." There's a lot of contention surrounding dairy - but so far the benefits of yogurt appear to be many.
How much were they eating? Three 6-ounce (170g) servings per day.
Do the scientists know why? They don't seem to have a clue...
Who sponsored the study? "Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition, General Mills Inc., which makes Yoplait"
Expect to see General Mills announcing this one loud and clear.
