LA Weight Loss Exposed

LA Weight Loss are a center-based weight loss program. The potential client comes in for their free assessment, gets weighed, and has a program provided for them. Motives behind LA Weight Loss have been questioned after the company was fined $100,000 (in 2002) for using false claims.

LA Weight Loss Clinics

LA Weight Loss have a number of clinics worldwide. Many feel that it is an expensive program - particularly if finance options are chosen (rather than cash).

The diet plan is customized to include appropriate portions of Proteins, Vegetables, Fruits, Starches, Fats, Dairy and LA Lites. LA Lites are soy-protein bars - which form a central part of the program. When purchased in bulk the cost of the bars is not insignificant.

LA at Home

la.jpg
The "at home" program has recently been introduced whereby users can access their plan on-line rather than visiting a clinic.

The LA at Home program consists of a Starter Kit - that is delivered to your door. Once the starter kit has been received - the program can begin.

The Program Diary forms the central part of LA at Home. This on-line diary allows all meals and beverages to be recorded, along with weight tracking, exercise log, and thoughts and feelings about the days eating. The site also allows access to a recipe section, and the ability to join a support group by way of on-line forums.

NOTE: It appears the LA at Home program is no longer operational (Nov 2007).

The cost of $219 includes customized meal programs, 4 weeks of LA Nutritional Bars, and samples of best-selling products.

UPDATE: Many commenters have suggested sourcing the LA Lites at discount from eBay.

To all,
I joined the end of December and after I got started and learned of the "sales" push of the nutrition bars, I was very distressed at myself for buying into the program. But, I was determined to make a go and follow the diet. So, I've been on the plan just about one month. I have tons of energy! My weight loss hasn't been phenominal yet, but I am losing inches everywhere! I know the plan is working for me.

I urge everyone if you can just get past all the crap in the beginning, put your foot down when it comes to buying huge quantities of the nutrition bars and follow the plan, you will lose weight. I am amazed. If you would have asked me three weeks ago, I wouldn't have told anyone I was on the LA Weightloss diet after reading these blogs. But as one blogger said, you do better if you are spending money on a weight loss plan because you don't want your money wasted, and my money is not being wasted.

hello all, first off hats off to anyone who is trying to lose weight. the health benefits to losing weight is enormous.

i joined LA weight loss in november. i think this has been the best program i have ever been on. yes, i was completely freaked out at the amount of money i had to spend and i believe they were not upfront about the extrordinary cost of the LA lites. i was angry about that and then decided to sit back and take a good hard look at my life.

first of all, i am 118 pounds overweight. the health problems that i have because of obesity are many. i spend countless dollars on medications each month, because of my obesity. if i lose my weight, i will be able to get off many of these drugs. the money i spend at the LA weight loss center, will not even come close to the amount that i will save in the long term.

i started this past november and have to date lost 37 pounds. i am averaging a loss of 3.1 pounds per week. i cannot be happier. the benefits of this program far outweigh the money i have spent. who can put a price on their health?

the counselors have been all great. there are times when they try to push more products on me. come on girls, be assertive. you do not need to buy all of that. if i buy other products it is my choice, not theirs. i do not give a darn about their commission. i am the customer and expect to get what i paid for. if you do not want something for pete sake do not get it.

i bought the LA lites, and believe me it was not cheap, because of the amount of weight i need to lose. however, they are fabulous and help me with cravings and i would not want to do without. i did not and will not buy their supplements. this is understood and written in my chart and i do not get pressure from them as a result.

so again, i have loved the program. i have been very successful, and i would advocate this to any SERIOUS person who is willing to commit. my health is the most important thing to me, and i will take the measures neccessary to ensure good health.

i have never been hungry and have more energy than forever.

so good luck and keep on losing.

La Weight loss is a program that has changed people's lives. I personally know people lose more than 40 pounds and I myself have lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks. It makes me mad that people on these blogs are discouraging others not to join because of their own experience of sales techniques and they are not willing to spend the money on themselves to lose the weight. I think that you spend money everyday on weight loss (whether it is with slimfast, weight watchers, jenny craigs or even joining a gym and if you are one that has tried other programs before than you have nothing to lose but to try the program yourself. See if it works for you. I feel like the phrase "misery loves company" is true because people go out of their way to discourage others to do something if they didn't do it or had a bad experience. And don't we exxagerate if we don't like something.

The fact is La weight loss is a lifestyle change that guarantees you 2 pounds per week as long as you follow the program that is assigned to you. Yes the LA Lites are optional but I think you should purchase the LA lites because number 1 they are delicious, number 2 they keep you focused on the program, and they help you lose the weight. Yes they are $20 for 14 bars, but if you break it down....IT IS $1.43 PER BAR!!!!!! THAT IS THE PRICE OF TWO CANDY BARS THAT WILL MAKE U FATTER while these actually help make you skinnier. It is a no brainer. The price you pay to help you lose the weight without feeling deprived is sooooooooo worth it, especially if you are like me and have tried everything else to lose the weight.

If you want a program that is easy to follow and will let you satisfy your sweet cravings along the way and gives you results each week than this is a program that I would recommend.

Hello-

I would just like to thank everyone who has posted on this particular thread because it has helped to keep me motivated with my weight loss. As I have previously posted, I re-joined LAWL on January 2, beginning the program on January 3. As of today, I have gone from 175 to 163 pounds. I have not cheated once and have not really wanted to. My goal is 155 pounds, but if I keep going at this rate I may adjust my goal to 150. My height is 5'9" & my age is 47. Like any other weight loss program, it has to be right for each individual in order to work & this program is working for me.

To everyone still pushing to lose their weight: keep going! You will love how you feel and your energy level in no time. It is totally worth it and I love seeing people's reactions when they get to that success after working so hard. Do not give up. When you get to your goal, remember the things you have been taught so you do not have to go through this struggle again.

I know all of my consistent clients by first name. I have been with LAWL for nearly a year, and I am one of the rookies still. We know our clients and their personal struggles. Many things play into your weight other than what you put into your mouth. As counselors we deal with divorce, cheating spouces, teenage pregnancies, client's parents on their deathbeds, empty-nest syndrome, and the daily life stressors. One of the reasons the turn-over in other centers is so high is because it is very emotionally draining; and trying to balance that empathy with the financial sales goals is extremely difficult. But we do what we think is best for our clients first and foremost. That is our job!

To Dee....
A while back their was a blog from a woman who was upset she was getting counseling from someone who "obviously has never had a weight loss problem, and won't understand until her 30's." That is very rude. If you want me to be considerate of your feelings and weight and the problems this life throws at you everyday, please do not be a hypocrite. Most of these women have lost tons of weight on this program, and even if they haven't it is not your place to judge whether or not they understand what you are going through. I have a very high metabolism and am built small, but I heard every week from my mother's lips "I'll start dieting on Monday." My entire family is grossly overweight, including my husband. So even if it is not firsthand understanding dieting is part of my life. And with the social pressures put on women today, even the skinniest girl is trying to lose weight in her head.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know I will try to get back to you as soon as time allows.

I joined last week and have had success so far. I, like a lot of you, are looking for the nutritional information on the LA Lites to see if there is something comparable in the grocery store.

Could someone possible list the calories, fat, proteins, carbs, soy content, etc.?

Thank you!

Hi,
I've been reading about the LA Weight Loss. I went there just to see what was about. I got hooked. Cool, I finally will lose this extra pounds. Things they had to give me, they kept running out of it. I was waiting for the hit with the LA lites, since I did my research AFTER I joined. Since it was so much money for the whole program, I said not to their packages. The lady wanted me to put it on my care credit and I consistenly said no. She got mad, went over very angry some book and left. She asked me, do you prefer to spend $28/week, than $30/month on your care credit? I said, yes, I am not putting anything else on my credit card, if I am getting anything it will be cash.
Since I am a generic product buuyer, I went to Walmart and looked at the ingredients of the cheap energy/protein bars...guess what? There are 2 out there I compared that have very similar ingredients, fat, calories, protein and all that than the LA Lites. There is also a Omega 3 fatty acid bottle at the store which it has the same ingredients than the EFA they give you to take 4 before bedtime.
Honestly, I am going to lose the weigth but on my on way, not expending crazy amount of money. They are not taking my money. I am following the program, yes, eating what they tell me in the little book, drinking my water and forcing myself to exercise. I think I had spent more in a digital scale than in LA lites, which I use part of the week, and use the generic ones the rest of the week.
They could be really expensive, but LA Weight Loss won't ripp me off. They already charged me enought for joining them. Well, now I will learn to eat right, but on my own good, not giving them my money.
Tahnks.

ARB,

What are the names of the 2 bars at Walmart....would you share please? I bought the LA lites, but I'm almost out and don't really want to make another large bulk purchase. Thanks!

I joined LA weighloss in August and have lost my goal amount of 25 lbs. I really believe that I would not have lost the weight with LA Weightloss. I do hate the sales pitches! Not every rep is pushy but a blonde named L.... who is management is the worst. She talked me into buying 10 weeks worth of bars...I did not take any home with me since I still had weeks worth at home. When I tried to get my money back ... they told me they were non-refundable! I was ticked off...I took all 10 weeks home with me and didn't go back for weeks! The bad part is that I really like the bars! They are convenient for me! I just bought 10 boxes for $99!!! which will last me 10 weeks. That is really not bad..considering I would have to bring a snack to work any way. I know that sounds crazy but I know it is worth it. I only buy their daily vitamin and EFA. I am so happy to have lost the weight and I have kept it off! FYI: I joined when it was 50% off so I only paid $325...I did, however, get suckered for all of the supplements the first time!

If you like the strawberry cereal bars...I found Leclerc Fruit Bars at WAlgreens for only $1 a box!!!
Guess what...they are made in the same city with exactly the same indredients as the LA breakfast bars! I do notice a slight difference in texture and the $1 bars have a few more grams of sodium ... but not much!

The boxes are even identical!!! interesting!

I sure wish to God I had seen this blog BEFORE i got caught for bout 2000 dollars. The bars were the reason I couldnt lose the weight, I think. I have ALWAYS been able to lose weight when I stick with a program, as I did this plan. The so-called counseling is non existent; the only time they are happy to see you is when they know it is time for them to hit you up again to buy something. I plan to call my atty general this week. I have never been so hungry or so miserable on a diet----I think the sugar in these bars make me hungrier as I think I am insulin-resistant. I amj on my own diet now and have lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks. What does that tell ya?

Hello to all. I have considered LAWL but after reading these blogs, I am disgusted. I would rather be fat than turn my hard-earned dollars over to some high-pressure sales rep. No thanks. There are many programs out there where all you need to do is replace a meal or snack with any bar..Weight Watchers is all I need. At $13/week it is a great support and has all the nutrional info I need. On the CORE program you don't even have to count your points!
As a sidenote: if you get charged from LAWL on your credit card with this so-called care credit or whatever it is ..simply call your credit card company and tell them to discontinue charges to that particular business. They will help you. Or better yet, cancel that card and get a different one. They can't charge you if they don't have a valid card!

I last posted on January 17 and at that time I felt taken also. I must now share that my experience has been great. If you simply understand that everything you buy, any business or restaurant you go to, has to make money. I believe I was again looking for another excuse to quit a diet plan I started. My husband and friends encouraged me to continue, give it a good try and eat those LA lites than seem so expensive. I followed their advise and went into the center the next day positive and willing to make this work for me. I'm glad to share that since January 12, I am 11 lbs. thinner!!! I feel great. I did weight watchers many times and it took me 6 or more weeks to lose 11 lbs. I sat in a room full of old women who loved to talk and was never really accountable to anyone for what I ate. They don't care if you don't show up. When you rejoin after a period of time I promise you will see the same overweight women giving it another try. Lets all look at the glass half full and not half empty and keep motivated to be the best we can be. Stick with it, like any other diet it is not always pleasant to limit food but worth it!!!

Wow, the last few posts have been something else. Here's the best tip I can give to such people: DON'T BLAME OTHERS FOR JOINING A PROGRAM THAT YOU CHOSE TO JOIN. A WEIGHTLOSS PROGRAM IS A LUXURY, NOT A GOD GIVEN RIGHT. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT, THEN KEEP IT MOVING! JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T AFFORD THE UP FRONT COSTS THEN DON'T ASSUME NO ONE ELSE CAN. YOUR FAILURE AT THIS PROGRAM IS NOT A SURPRISE TO ME SINCE YOUR ATTITUDE OUT OF THE STARTING GATE IS PISS POOR. AS I'VE STATED EARLIER: A LOT OF CENTERS COULD IMPOVE THEIR "PITCH" BUT REGARDLESS OF HOW SOMEONE SOLD YOU OR HOW SOMEONE SEEMED "ANGRY" THE DIET WORKS AND IF YOU'D FOLLOW IT, RATHER THAN DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO DANCE AROUND IT, THEN YOU'D BE THINNER AND... HAPPIER!!! YOUR WAY DOESN'T WORK, YOUR PRODUCT CHOICES DON'T WORK--- LET THE PROGRAM WORK FOR YOU AND SURRENDER TO IT. IF YOU AREN'T PREPARED TO DO SO, AND YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO PAY FOR IT, THEN OWN UP TO YOUR POOR CHOICE AND FIND ANOTHER WAY.

Hello,
I forgot to say on my post that it did not take us a week to gain 10 pounds. We cannot expect to loose 10 pounds in a weeks. It sounds hard but all those late snacks, and days at the tv were not helping me. For the person who asked me about the bars, one starts with P and the other one with L. The are not the expensive ones, and their content is similar to the LA lites (at least lemon and chocolate peanut crunch). I get discorauge easily, but I am going to stick with this plan because it won't be magic to loose the weight, is more about learn how to eat right and portion sizes. I like to eat. I like to taste flavor on my food. I had a hard time the first day of the plan, but I've learn to manage. I know there are cheaper plans out there, but I need more of a pushing to stay in the program. It might take me longer thatn the time I signed up for, but I can feel in my clothes already that I had lost some inches.
Don't give up. Remember the earth was not made in on e day :)

To Advisor:

I made the comment about getting counseling from someone who had never had a weight problem because I ASKED HER what her past experience had been (with regard in trying to lose weight) and she and 2 other counselors told me that they were only working at this center because it was close to where they lived and they just needed a part time job to get them through school. So I do not consider myself to be a hypocrite when I write that I am frustrated at being counseled by women who have admitted that they don't have to worry about their weight because, in my case, they have NOT had to deal with what I have had to deal with. With all due respect, regarding your comment “And with the social pressures put on women today, even the skinniest girl is trying to lose weight in her head”…Sorry but I cannot accept that. Being a thin woman trying to lose weight in the back of your mind is NOT THE SAME as living it. I am sure that it's not like this at every center, but I was writing about my particular case. I still attend the center because I paid for it and I will use the services until my time is used up. Since I wrote the first comment on January 4th, 3 more counselors have left with no notice.

As far as your comment “If you want me to be considerate of your feelings and weight and the problems this life throws at you everyday, please do not be a hypocrite”, begging your pardon, but if I am paying your company thousands of dollars to use your program, then I am in the best position to judge what I am getting for my money. I think it’s extremely hypocritical of LAWL to have any counselor deal with clients who has never had a problem with being overweight, since that is the purpose of the program, or who isn’t currently on the program herself. Just my humble opinion. Good luck with continued weight loss.

I enjoy reading everyone's blogs so much because I used to work there and it's great hearing all different sides of the story. I didn't leave LAWL on good terms, which is pretty common at that place.

"Advisor" commented that working there is emotionally draining. Wanna know why? Because of clients like Dee.

Dee-
When I worked at my center, I was the most requested "counselor" (technically I was asst. manager)in the center. I had great relationships with most of my clients, and painstakingly helped so many of them lose weight. I also had the best "numbers" in the state. That means I sold ASSLOADS of LA Lites, supplements and programs to women like you. Wanna know the best part?? I'm 5'11" and weigh 121 lbs., and have NEVER HAD A WEIGHT PROBLEM IN MY LIFE. And yet all of my clients loved me, they came to me for help, trusted my advice, and purchased the weight loss tools that I recommended for them. I had many women make comments such as yours...obviously bitter women looking for any lame excuse. It is simply NOT TRUE that you have to be overweight or had a weight problem to help someone lose weight. Does a doctor have to have had cancer to treat cancer? Of course not. So instead of being jealous that she's skinny, focus your energy on getting skinny yourself.

And to everyone else who is trying to find a substitute for the La Lites--the closest thing is the Pria Bar. They are probably the same price as the Lites, if not more. But it's a bad idea to stray from the program like that...don't complain about not losing weight if you use anything other than what is on the real plan. The plan is designed that way for a reason--don't fix what'snot broken. And if you say you can't afford them, you are lying. YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY THEM IN BULK! You can spend $29 per week instead. I KNOW you can round up $29 a week.

P.S. If anyone likes the Xcel supplement I will sell it to you for 50% off!!

Well hello out there in cyber world i am just writing this letter to say that i stared lawl 1/26/2006 and on my third visit i had lost 4 lbs. i too was shocked at the price for everything but i think when you have a considerable amount of weight to lose (200 lbs.) you RE vulnerable to an extent and they show the commercials on tv and also when you go in for your consultation you see all the success that people have had that are in the same conditon that your in. i am going ro try and see what happens for now i am confident.

I joined LAWL in August of 2005. I have lost almost 30 pounds as of today. It does work, but I have been hungry and cranky for the entire time. I tried to consume the LA Lites, but they are aggravating a medical condition that I have had for years. This has been explained to my Weight Loss Counselor, along with a note from my Physician. They have refused to refund my money on the Lites that I purchased in bulk. When I talked with the Counselor yesterday, she commented that I could stop the Lites if I wanted to, but I would not lose the weight as fast without them. She could not explain why this is true, could not provide any scientific data to back up her statements. She refused to discuss a refund, even when presented with documented Medical information explaining that my condition is a contraindication to consuming these bars.

I will continue to go to the centers until my time is up, and I will continue to follow the plan until I have lost all the weight, but I would not reccomend this plan to anyone!

Hi,

I have been with LAWL for almost 4 weeks now. To date, I have lost 5.2 pounds. My counsellors have mentioned that this is a slower weightloss. It is discouraging to see that the weight is not coming off sooner. Escpecially when you hear that other people have been losing a lot more than this in the same amount of time. Has anyone else experienced a slow weight loss and what can I do to get past it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you exercising? If not...you need to. If you are ...then I would suggest changing it a little to add more intensity to your program. That is what I did when my weight loss stalled.

Good luck. Don't give up!

Joanie,

I exercise 4-5 hours a week (with weights) and the weight loss has been very slow for me! I have ony lost 10lbs in 4 months!!! BUT, I was measured the last time that I was in and I have lost almost 13 inches!!! That was incentive enough for me to just keep on truckin'! I figure slow and steady weightloss has a better chance of staying off of my body! Just keep thinking positive and recognize that every pound will add up in the end!!! :)

First of all, let me break it down for some of you...I don't know what la weight loss center some of you are visiting but some of this information seems wild to me. I am a current manager for a franchise LA Weight Loss center and some of the things you all are saying seem foreign to me...First of all, if you ask about price on the phone, you will hear us respond by saying "THE PROGRAM IS BASED ON $7 A WEEK, HOWEVER IT IS NOT A PAY AS YOU GO PROGRAM... WE WILL WORK UP YOUR ENTIRE PROGRAM AT THE TIME OF YOUR CONSULTATION AND IT IS CUSTOMARY THAT YOU PAY IN FULL BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL PAYMENT OPTIONS." Sounds like a script huh, that is probably because it is...We are required to use this script and if we don't, and we get phone shopped, we can get in serious trouble. It is true that you must come in for the consultation for us to give you a total price because it is impossible to determine your program cost over the phone because we don't know which program you will be eligible for...The initial cost is based on several factors that are effected by YOUR LIFESTYLE...

Next, about the bars....PEOPLE, THEY ARE OPTIONAL AND IT SAYS SO RIGHT ON THE CONSULTATION BOOK THAT THE COUNSELOR PRESENTS TO YOU...Also, I make sure to tell the potential client that they are optional just in case they claim to be illiterate and they didn't see that part.Other counselors may not do this and if they don't, they should...Also, at then end of the consultation, there is a success page that says right there in big bold words "THE COST OF LA LITES ARE $28 A WEEK OR LESS IN BULK" and again, on the service guarentee you sign IN BOLD, "THE COST OF LA LITES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN PROGRAM PRICE". I also make sure to UNDERLINE this so someone cannot come back and say things like I am reading on this blog. I find it a little weird that most people who are going through a consultation would not ask "Hey, do those bars cost extra" Most of my clients do and that's why they are happy with their success because they are informed from the beginning.

Finally, about getting refunds, the center I work at will refund any un-used portion of the program at any time....it does not matter if you have been on the program for a year...if you are eligible for a refund you can get one at anytime...the cancellation policy may be different at other centers but this is the policy at mine...There is a non-refundable $149 fee and it says so on the service guarentee that you sign in again, BIG BOLD LETTERS...This also gets circled so the clients do not over look it...My clients have no choice because I pretty much READ the whole service guarentee to them so they understand everything...If you don't like what you see DON'T SIGN IT...Bye the way, the main reason that there is a non refundable $149 is for the few people out there who try to SCAM THE COMPANY by signing on, getting their materials and then turning around and refunding their entire program...believe me, this does happen so the company has to cover the cost somehow...I mean we need a paycheck to just like everyone else and our time isn't free and we don't want it wasted just like you wouldn't want your time wasted...I am just aiming that towards the scammers, not everyone in general. If your not getting the type of service that I just explained from your LA center then I am truly sorry but don't base your ignorant judgements on just one bad experience in one bad center because they are not all ran by the same people and at my center, if your just working there to make a paycheck, and truly don't give a damn about the clients, you will be canned quick...my owner does not tolerate that. Yes, the program may cost more than some, but most programs that work will cost you money...I bet some people wouldn't be worried about the money if their insurance were gonna pay for gastric bypass, a surgery that can kill you or scar you for the rest of your life...Or what about all the money you will spend on junk food in the next year, and oh yeah, the clothing you will be spending hundreds of dollars on in the next year when you could be buying smaller sizes and your going 1, 2, or 3 sizes higher... "Uh ok, I won't spend $500 on a diet that works and will make me happy, but I will spend it on a whole new wardrobe because nothing fits me anymore" I'm not saying this to be mean but to give some people a reality check...This is stuff I hear from my clients, I don't make it up myself. Also, this is a large company that takes a lot of money to run. If you were to join a pay-by-week program like weight watcher at $12 a week (this is the current rate at the WW in my area), add that up for about a year and see what the total cost would be. A year would be based on someone who needs to lose anywhere from 60 to 80 lbs. I'm not knocking Weight Watchers, it is a great program. I am just trying to give you facts. Some of you are saying some really harsh things about a program that has helped millions of people and some of you have only been doing it for a few days or maybe not even tried it at all...All, i'm asking is to get your facts straight about somthing before you make pre-judgements. I understand, some of you have had bad experiences and the diet may have not worked for you but just don't think that all LA centers treat their clients this way.

This is for Allison. Maybe your center is run above board, and people are informed. I will say, that in my case, I was not informed that the LA lites were required for the guarantee untill I had already paid my money, until I went in to get the program. I was not informed that my money would not be refunded if medically necessary. I am diabetic, and have irritable bowel syndrome, and therefore cannot have the Lites. I have also had kidney stones in the past and my physician advises me that the Lites are bad for all of these conditions. My counselor was informed of all these conditions before I started the program. When I have asked for help, the help I have been given is to tweak the diet, but NEVER leave off the Lites, even when I have presented a letter from my physician attesting the above facts. Let me say again, I was told in no uncertain terms that my money could not be refunded under any conditions. I intend to report this center to my states Attorney Generals office. Maybe they will be able to "fix" this situation. Let me reiterate what others have said. If the centers were HONEST to begin with, and would leave off the high pressure sales tactics, you would not have people leaving negative comments in a forum such as this. I have lost weight on the program, and was not unhappy, even faced with the high cost of the program, until the health issues came up, and I realized that LA Weight is only interested in making money, even at the cost of someone's health.

Hi everyone! I went to my 3rd appointment at LAWL and had lost 6.5 lbs. in a week....I'd say it works! My counselor showed me the bulk price of the bars and I declined the high prices, she simply asked me what I was willing to pay for the bars and I told her what worked for me. Simple as that!

I really like the bars - I warm them up with apple slices and a little FF cool whip and I have a dessert that satisfies me. I tried the Pria bars and they tasted like sand - the LA Lites taste the closest to a candy bar and help me get through my sweet cravings.

This program is expensive, but I look at all of the money I have spent on diet pills, diet food, laxatives and diuretics, diet books, etc., and this program is pocket change compared to all of that stuff! LAWL is helping me learn how to eat real food and really look at the contents of what I am eating. I say, go with what works for you - if you are taking a step to get healthy, that is what matters.

Stay healthy everyone and don't sweat the small stuff - sweat the big stuff off your body and be bikini ready by summer! ; )

To WW...I am very sorry for the inconvenience that you faced with your center and I agree with you to report it...I am sure as with any business not everyone is going to be happy and I understand this...That is why i take every precaution in the center to let my clients what is going on from the beginning. With or without medical conditions or LA lites you should still get the best treatment possible with your center and if your not, I totally respect the fact that you would like to report it to the attorney general. The comments I was making in my blog were not necessarily directed towards anyone in general, especially someone in your circumstance...I would feel the same way if I were in your shoes...Please let me know if you need any advice about anything...I will always be here to help because I don't look at it just as a job, it's what I love to do and that doesn't stop just because I am sitting at home on my computer...Feel free to leave any comments or questions...even suggestions at that matter...and i will be happy to answer.

I'm one of the sucess stories. I've been with Lawl for 8 months and I've lost 70 lbs. Yes I do use those la lites and I love every bite of them. What kind of program allows you to have two chocolate bars a week and guarantee that you'll lose weight. At first I thought they were expensive but then I was spending more eating out going to dairy queen etc. These help me stay in control. I don't go out and binge eat the carbs and sugars like I used to. When I was shown the packages to bulk the lites I was quite shocked until my counselor explained the importance of them and that she would be doing me a disservice by not offering me this one time savings. That at any time I could by them weekly but I would be spending more for them. She was offering me a chance to save money. As far as I'm concerned I could not have been successful without the bars. I wasn't successfull on any other diet and believe me I tried them all and maybe lasted a month and spent more money and tears then I ever spent with LAWL.

I think LAWL is getting a bad rap and that some of the people should look at themselves and really ask themselves if they followed the program properly or did they go off a lot. It's easy to blame someone else for your own mistakes. Many times I would hear other clients complaining about why they are not losing, only to hear that they ate what was not on plan. It is ultimately your responsibility. LAWL offers you the tools to be successful. Don't blame the company if you choose not to do those things and you don't lose your weight. Remember it is a business and if it didn't work then they wouldn't be there.

One more thing. I don't know of one company that gives you a 50% refund when you reach goal and maintain within 5 lbs for a year. Also one that will guarantee your weight loss of two pounds a week just by using the la lites and following plan. It would seem that if the company was such a scam then why would they offer you products and services that will get you to your goal.It would be in their finacial best interest not to.

Also I want to thank the girls at my center. They were what made this experience worth every cent. I laughed with them and I cried with them. They have helped me every step of the way. They were not there to grab my money or chastice me when I slipped. Instead they helped pull me back up and gave me a supporting hand. I would only hope that everyones experience was and is as good as mine. I would recommend LAWL in a heartbeat. Happy losing.

hi.. i have been in the LAWL program for about a week or 2.. and i have lost 5 lbs. so far it has been working for me. i believe that some people you just cant please no matter what you do! i am 19 years old and I believe that this will be one of the best investments i will make in my life! you only live once!! i believe that programs like this are wonderful because it shows young girls like my self how to eat and be healthy, because its sad to hear the large numbers of teens with eating disorders! and i did not want turn to that! as far as for the bars. well i do admit that they are a little expensive but they have been a good way to fill me up between my meals. well to any one who is interested in joining.. from what i have read on this site.. i haven't read about anyone complaining about not loosing weight! YOU WILL LOOSE WEIGHT IF YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN! I HAVE! :)

I have read a lot of places about LAWL and the opinions seem to vary. Here is my observation. I believe that your experience is totally based on the staff at the center you attend. Our local one is great. There is one pushy sales person, but the rest seem geniunely interested in helping you.

A lot of people here gripe about the bars being expensive. Have you ever bought protein bars before? Many protein bars are $3+ a bar. Sure you can find them on the net for cheaper, but maybe $2 plus shipping. I bought in bulk and I'm paying less than a buck fifty a piece for them. They don't have the nasty aftertaste that you get with the others that use artificial sweetners either.

I will say that if I hadn't gone in with the intent to join, I would have been a little put off by their sales pitch. You are already in for a few hundred before you really even know what the program is. If you feel that you have been pushed into buying something because they suggested or even strongly suggested it, thats your own fault. But that may be why you are there in the first place because you can't tell the girl at McDonalds no when she encourages you to get the supersize.

I joined LAWL about a week ago and so far I'm happy with it. However, I don't plan on purchasing the LA Lites. About 5 years ago there was a program very similar to LAWL called Well 4 Life. They too offered the diet bars and said they were a neccessity to lose weight. Of course, I felt they were just trying to make an extra buck so I decided not to purchase them. What do you know, I was still very successful with the program by just following the eating portion of the diet.
So if you plan on joining LAWL, you've been forewarned. You will be pressured to by the LA Lites at a ridiculous price but just know that you can still lose weight without them.

Everyone,

I just want you to know that there are FREE weight loss sites on the internet. There are no catches, and the one I am using works just as well or better than LAWL. There is no need to pay hundreds of dollars for a weight loss program. I only wish I had been better informed before I joined. These people don't care if they ruin your health, and the center I was involved with only wants your money. Beware.

Hi,
I am well aware of plenty of free internet sites to lose weight. Some of us, need that extra push so stick to a program. I remember I was doing an online diet a while ago, and I did not lose anything, I think pretty much because I was using wrong portion and wrong sodium contents also. I was also not trying new alternatives to eat.
I know this program is expensive, but I am planning to stick to it. They keep offering me the lites, I just get my 2 boxes a week, and that's it. I only like one so far, which is the chocolate crunch. I am fine with it.
They weight you every time you go, but my weight has been just taking in consideration just on saturdays, when I go in the morning, with just 1 meal on. It is kinda funny to be weight every time, specially since "that weight" varies with clothes and food, and water intake.
I am still in the program, almost quit. Since my weight loss has been slow, they decided to measure me before the 4 weeks to see if I was losing inches instead of weight. Also, my diary was taken to a dietician to figure out if I was doing something wrong.
As i said before, it did not take me a week to gain 10 pounds, so, I cannot lose 10 pounds in a week.

We have developed a buddy system at work, and several of us are working to keep each other motivated. The internet site we are using breaks the foods you eat down by calories, carbs, fats, and also lists the nutrients in your foods. We keep a diary of everything we eat, and our co workers have access to this information. This helps to keep me honest. I have lost 3 lbs since beginning this. I never lost 3 lbs in one week with LAWL. Also, I showed the program (LAWL) to my Dr., and he was not real happy with the portion sizes on the LAWL program. Furthermore, he states the LA Lites are unhealthty for most people, and is not a "magic" formula for weight loss. I, for one, am happy to be on a better program. I only wish I could have gotten some of my money back. My center does not give refunds for any reason.

When I called the center for info they quickly set up a same day appointment for me to come in. I became really excited. I've never tried a program before and after calling them on a whim I realized my fragile emotional state became the perfect target. I spent 2 hours in their company and left with a signed contract that states for me to lose 65 pounds, it will take 33 weeks with an additional 6 weeks to stabilize my diet and weight and a whopping 52 weeks of maintainance. 52 weeks! I could of sworn she said 5 weeks. She talked so fast and by this point after my jaw closed back up from the shock of the price,($827.20 which includes the 10% discount, and $89. for the Personal Enhancement Package, which I think is the internet service I showed great interest in earlier and then felt obligated to purchase when she told me at the time of signing that it costs $99. The total came to $916.20. I said I needed to go home and take a look at my finances, knowing good and well that I couln't come up with that much money anytime soon. She quickly asked me how much I could come up with write then. I said $200 after she loaned me her calculator and gave me a stare down that felt very uncomfortable. She then set me up on an automatic 6 debit payments from my account for the next 6 mos. of $120.53 plus a $2 service fee each time.

I left feeling very proud of myself for makeing this committment but extremely pressured and somewhat confused by all of the fast talk and info.

I'm just 2 days on the program and 3 lbs. down and have my upcoming appointment to buy the bulk products. I don't think so! I have already been pressured one on one by the manager who's trying to get me to finance these bars. When he inquired of my credit status and I told him it wasn't all that, he cocked his head sideways and sneered at me with an evil look. I'm not exagerating. It was at this moment that I decided I would refuse these products on my next visit and look for other brand alternatives. I'm not the slightest bit convinced that the bars will help me lose lbs and wonder how much the extra sugar might slow down the process. I would like to do some research on the beneficial affects of soy and whey and see how they measure up to LA's claims. I certainly don't want my skin to be saggy. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no nutritional info on my sample box. They're pretty clever. And what's the deal? Two of the three staff members including the manager are borderline obese. No joke.

Darla, you sound like I did when I went for my first appointment at LAWL. I wanted to find the more inexpensive way of doing the program - but then I stopped fighting it and let the program work for me and it is! If you center is being pushy, let them know - find someone who works with you and not against you.

And really, the LA Lites work well with the program. There is no alternative with the same taste to help control those cravings. The nutritional information is on all of the boxes I have and the differences between the LA Lites and other bars comes down to quality - they are just better.

Don't let them push you around, get control of your weight your way, and give LAWL a chance....it's working for me and I've tried everything!!

About the counselors appearance....maybe they started out at 300 lbs. and are still losing. We all need to be a little less critical of one another and a lot more supportive!!

Happy Losing!

I have just joined LAWL this past Monday. I have lost a total of 4 pounds so far. My starting weight was 151.8 and now I am 147.8, my goal is 127. When I initially went in they told me it was going to be 744.53. I said okay, its for my health and I want to see the results. Also I was pumped with enthusiasm when I heard that at six months I would be getting a rebate of 158.95 and at a year 158.95 again. I am upset at the fact that after my 2 day express when I went in, they went and told me about the LA Lites and showed the prices. For the entire plan during my weight loss, stabilization, maintenance phase 864.20. Then another deal for weight, stabilization and 1/2 of the maintenance phase for 647.00. And then finally weight, and stabilization for 437.00. I looked at her and said I'm sorry but I don't have either one of those amounts. But because I have a sister that is pregnant and not using her bars can I use hers as long as I am eating my two LITES a day. She said oh no, that your sister would have to pay for it and blah blah blah. I know about that but why let my sisters one go to waste. Then I said okay how's about if I get it off of ebay. She then said it void my contract. And since I'm the contract type of gal and use to work for a lawyer's office. I clearly said and showed her my contract where in this contract does it say that I have to buy it directly from you. She then went to say that I can not transfer goods on Ebay. I said yes I did sign your contract agreeing that I will not transfer or sell any of your written materials that has your LA Weight Loss Center Copyright. Blah Blah Blah. But no where in this contract says that I can't purchase it from someone else. I am not doing the dirty deed of selling your products or distributing in any way your product for financial purposes for my own financial gain. So I can purchase off of Ebay and my contract will still be in good as long as I'm taking my lites 2 times a day. Visting you 3 times a day, only consume foods for all meals as directed, etc.

And she said well I know corporate would say that voids your contract. And I told her get Corporate on the phone or let me talk to your manager. She then said she's not in at the moment. I said well I'll wait for her then. She started to shrug me off. Another worker walked in and I asked her the same question and she stuttered. She said I could get them whereever I wanted as long as I took them. Then I explained the problem of having to spend the money on the LITES to me the incentives of my rebates would be for nothing! So in reality to all this bs I will now be opting out of my contract, saving a ton of money in my pocket, and have not to worry about eating those things. I do love them but I prefer not to deal with your corporate manipulations of a consumer. So since I am on a no lites diet I am now on the purple plan. No problem!

Enough of my ranting, I just thought I wanted you to hear this straight from someone who told them to take and shove it, sort of nicely. Also I went in today and got a surprise there was a sale on supplements, I bought the FB500 and got a free Carb Enders, so I got two FB500 and got 2 free Carb Enders and also got 10% off my supplement purchase.

So there was some good new to this story in a way. Just becareful and don't let no one push you around! It's your money that you're investing and we all believe it should be invested wisely and for the right reasons!
