LA Weight Loss Exposed

LA Weight Loss are a center-based weight loss program. The potential client comes in for their free assessment, gets weighed, and has a program provided for them. Motives behind LA Weight Loss have been questioned after the company was fined $100,000 (in 2002) for using false claims.

LA Weight Loss Clinics

LA Weight Loss have a number of clinics worldwide. Many feel that it is an expensive program - particularly if finance options are chosen (rather than cash).

The diet plan is customized to include appropriate portions of Proteins, Vegetables, Fruits, Starches, Fats, Dairy and LA Lites. LA Lites are soy-protein bars - which form a central part of the program. When purchased in bulk the cost of the bars is not insignificant.

LA at Home

The "at home" program has recently been introduced whereby users can access their plan on-line rather than visiting a clinic.

The LA at Home program consists of a Starter Kit - that is delivered to your door. Once the starter kit has been received - the program can begin.

The Program Diary forms the central part of LA at Home. This on-line diary allows all meals and beverages to be recorded, along with weight tracking, exercise log, and thoughts and feelings about the days eating. The site also allows access to a recipe section, and the ability to join a support group by way of on-line forums.

NOTE: It appears the LA at Home program is no longer operational (Nov 2007).

The cost of $219 includes customized meal programs, 4 weeks of LA Nutritional Bars, and samples of best-selling products.

UPDATE: Many commenters have suggested sourcing the LA Lites at discount from eBay.

The only thing people have to remmeber is there is a difference in policies if you join a franchise compared to corporate. I do not remember which is the difference, but in my center, you are required to buy the bars. You have no choice. You can jsut not eat them if you chose not to, but you have to buy them. Be careful and ask when you go in to see the contract before you get in too far.

Hello-I joined with a friend of mine. When they added up the total cost I about floored. But my friend didn't seem to have a problem with it so I agreed. However, I did not have that kind of money so they kindly hooked me up with care credit. They stated that you have to start the program drinking their juice for two days. During these two days you can eat all the protein and green vegatables as you like. Then the third day the juice is gone and you follow the regular diet plan. My friend specifically asked if there was any nutra sweet or other sweetners because I am allergic to them. They said positivitly no-there is no nutra sweet or other sweetners in it. So started the juice-drank if for two days and then on the third day I passed out while on a four wheeler. While out my hand slipped down onto the exhaust pipe and got third and second degree burns on my hand-which is still scarred today. Since we weren't sure that the juice had anything to do with it--two months later I decided to try the diet again. So started with the juice for two days again. Then on the third day-I passed out again but this time driving a car. I wrecked and was life lined to a trauma hospital two hours away. After that every test available was ran to see if there was any other possible cause for making pass out. All test came back fine. So now I want my money back from LA--is that possible? Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I would appreciate any help! Thanks Jill

Lawl is great, i can eat all the red meat i want and loose weight. i DON'T have to eat salads or chicken all the time with other diets that i have been on thats all you could eat. I have gotten better results with LAWL then ANY other diet i have EVER been on. I love that i have the freedom to eat ALOT of different foods. I don't eat the bars, cause i can't and I am doing GREAT. If you are SERIOUS about loosing the weight you will pay the money it is expensive but it works!!!

I have had much success from LA Weight Loss and I think if you only lose a couple of pounds in a couple of months then you are obviously cheating or not following the program as you should. It is totally worth the money and you get half of the sign-up fee back if you keep the weight off for a year. That is a fabulous motivation don't you think? You can also write-off the money you spend with them as a health expense. From my original weight I needed to lose about 37 pounds to get to my goal and I have lost about 25 so far after four months. It is so great to fit into smaller sizes and my blood pressure and cholesterol are all better and totally within normal levels. I use all the supplements and bars and just recently started JetStarts which are tasty and helpful in the mornings (caffeine). If you get to a point where you are totally committed to bettering yourself and losing weight the plan will work for you. If you are not committed then nothing will work. I have never been deceived by them and I have them re-explain things to me all the time. If I choose not to purchase anything they are always fine with it. I like that alot of them are on the program at the same time because it doesn't make you feel like they don't know where you are coming from. And think about this...the more you lose the more people will notice and ask you how you did it. Then you can refer them there and get all kinds of credit for it. For all those that are skeptical just go and talk to a center and tell them your concerns. Use your gut and do what you think is right for you. But I do highly recommend it.

Thank you all! I only wish I had read this website before I entered a contract. Anyway, a long story short maybe? Last Friday I signed up for LA and almost fainted when they told me how much it was going to cost me, about $950 without the supplements. Uh, I was goint to be paying for the weeks that my sweatshirt, jeans, and 2 cups of tea weigh, and when they took my measurements, well, let me just say that it was the first time I had a "loose" measurement and they said my waist was 50! What??? No way...how about 10 inches smaller? Anyway, when they told me I could have all my weight off by November, I was sold. How stupid because I know better than that, but like a sap I fell for it. Then, the LA Lites. OMG! Out here it was $34 per week and of course the "so called" discount if you bought by bulk. Everything that I read in this blog is soooo true. Then for the next 2 nights I could not sleep. I kept seeing the money flying out the window. As I could see this was going to cost me a few grand! Well, I got the nerve and called first thing Monday morning. I was waiting for an argument but no, they were super nice. I did lose my $149 for the startup kit, medical consult (she could not even spell simple medical words), and of course the "free consultation". I guess it is not free when you sign up, I don't know. Then, she did say that I could come in and pick up my "kit" with the sample bars. I really did not think that was possible, but they were very nice about it and really did not expect to get anything out of this. Like I said, I was expecting a little problem but nothing. I got home, tasted the LA bars...yikes, not that good, at least that is what I thought and definitely not worth the price! Weight WAtchers 2-point bars are much better and cheaper too! Just sooo happy that I came across this site, you guys save me thousands! I wish I could repay you, hey ahow about a few LA Lites? Got some here! LOL.

Gonna keep trying, I know what I have to do, less in more out...just that I do it.

Thanks.

I just started today. And now I started to read from all these blogs. Let me tell you how I see it. I own and operate a successful painting business. I feel very good about the work we do. I also have tremendous references. I also have a few ex-customers that hate my guts because they had a bad experience. So be it. We have always tried to put out a good product and if the odd customer can't appreciate our efforts too bad for them. We are not going to please everyone all of the time. If you have a problem with LAWL deal with them on it and if you're not satisfied and you think you're getting scammed, go to the next level of administration. I have dealt with enough customers to know that you just can't please some people. Too bad for them. If you're new, keep it up and give it a chance. A good attitude will reap good results.

I have not joined the program but copies of the info from someone who did join. I am buying the lites from ebay and they have all been fresh. Two questions I have....(1) how are these ebay sellers getting these boxes in bulk...selling 10 to 40 boxes at a time. They say they pick them up from the LA center...how? (2) what are your favorite flavors? The new ones are the carmel crunch and a coconut flavor. Is there a third new flavor? Thanks for any input you can send my way.

I have joined in the past and lost, I have the info so I want to follow the program again without joining. Will they let you purchase the bars without actually joining?

I am sincerely sad when I read these comments about LAWL and the people that work there. I am one of those employees and I work my ass off for my franchise owners. I do care calls every week for people who have skipped a week or more, I sit with over 23 clients a day. I honestly do not try to sell these people anything. I had a client walk in the door today and tell me she loves coming to LA because of my smile. I sat with another client today for almost an hour talking about her family problems, and other things not related to weight loss. I love most of my clients and I know they love me. It makes me mad that some of you have had a bad experience because i really and honestly value and love my job an the clients and people i work with.

to those who say they only lost 6lbs in three months, well you were cheating there is no other way possible. you can drop the lites all you like but to only loose 6 lbs or 5 you were not being honest and the calories add up. in order to loose 2 pounds a week you have to burn or cut out 7000 calories. if you are cheating that is not going to happen. i cheat i am not going to lie, but i do have some clients who have NEVER cheated and loose more than 2 pounds a week. with my cheating i have lost 7.6 in my first 4 weeks. i strongly suggest you work out, i know that is one reason i have lost as much as i have with my cheating. and i do suggest working out to all my clients. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO ARE ON THE PLAN. I know it works.
