LA Weight Loss Exposed

LA Weight Loss are a center-based weight loss program. The potential client comes in for their free assessment, gets weighed, and has a program provided for them. Motives behind LA Weight Loss have been questioned after the company was fined $100,000 (in 2002) for using false claims.

LA Weight Loss Clinics

LA Weight Loss have a number of clinics worldwide. Many feel that it is an expensive program - particularly if finance options are chosen (rather than cash).

The diet plan is customized to include appropriate portions of Proteins, Vegetables, Fruits, Starches, Fats, Dairy and LA Lites. LA Lites are soy-protein bars - which form a central part of the program. When purchased in bulk the cost of the bars is not insignificant.

LA at Home

la.jpg
The "at home" program has recently been introduced whereby users can access their plan on-line rather than visiting a clinic.

The LA at Home program consists of a Starter Kit - that is delivered to your door. Once the starter kit has been received - the program can begin.

The Program Diary forms the central part of LA at Home. This on-line diary allows all meals and beverages to be recorded, along with weight tracking, exercise log, and thoughts and feelings about the days eating. The site also allows access to a recipe section, and the ability to join a support group by way of on-line forums.

NOTE: It appears the LA at Home program is no longer operational (Nov 2007).

The cost of $219 includes customized meal programs, 4 weeks of LA Nutritional Bars, and samples of best-selling products.

UPDATE: Many commenters have suggested sourcing the LA Lites at discount from eBay.

I am not a success of LA weight Loss, BUT it is due to medical nothing else. So for now I just want to say watch out, I have a doctor's note advising them I cannot use the Protein bars and have severl $$ tied up in "care credit" that I am paying on monthly. The local store will not give me credit, and they will not even discuss it with me. I have call the customer service line, only to receive voice mail to leave a message, I have and have not yet received a phone call back from them!! I have contacted "care credit" and they are mailing me a dispute form, but until then I have to pay on my line of credit. I do not have all the product that I have been charged for and am only looking for credit for merchandise that I have not yet picked up. I have not asked to even be able to return unopened product. I will keep you updated on when I hear and to what the end results have been. I have a medical reason I cannot consume their product and I refuse to pay for something that medically I cannot use. I should also mention that the credit company made mention of the fact that others have called too!!! Makes one wonder doesn't it. They knew going in that I had a medical situation and may not be able to use the bars, and said Oh no problem. Really?? We shall see, and believe me I will scream loud and clear and I will ask others who may be in the same boat to join in.

I lost 10 lbs on the LA Weightloss program in less than a week and still counting. The protein bars is what seals the deal.

I'm a sweet craver, so for anyone to tell me I can eat what tastes like Snicker Bars twice a day and simply adjust the WAY I eat...is effortless. So ya can't knock'em for that.

However, to pay up to $500 for an entire stock (in addition to the $400 sign-up) upfront is unacceptable. Most people have lost all the weight they wanted using less than their "required" amount. Can you say, Ebay?

I suggest joining to find out where you stand (what body type you are---that alone is worth the initial fee). Adjust your intake as they instruct, drink your water...do a squat or two and relax. Then, go back to see how much you've lost and either discontinue the program (which you can only do within the first two weeks of the program to see any cash back)or retain your membership while "outsourcing" the bars. How? Uh can you say Ebay?

Cya at the beach looking FABulous!
(you CAN lose the weight!)

I myself recently had a "free" consultation with LA Weight loss. I was so pumped when i first got there. The consultant was so nice she really got me motivated with the succes stories of the people who's pictures were on the wall. She then weighed me and told me about how different they are from other weight loss facilities and how I will lose at least 2 pounds a week and how she would always be there with me every step of the way. She really sold me. She also told me I was getting 18 weeks free, i was then ready to sign up. That was until she told me that it would cost me $1,050 to start. Plus the cost for the pills and the bars. I almost had a heart attack. I was crushed. I told the lady on the phone that i was a college student and i was looking for something that i could afford. She totally shot me the bull on this deal.
I am not trying to bad mouth the company but i really wish i knew this information before I wasted my time. If you can afford it more power to you but for people like me we would have to win the lottery to afford LA weightloss.

I am a wonderful success story of LA Weight Loss. First and foremost, it is expensive. However, unless you have a secret, all weight loss options are. From gym memberships, to surgery, to changing your diet by yourself, or by going to a doctors' office, then having to purchase the food along with any equipment you may want so you can workout at home,(not leaving out video tapes and DVDS), it requires some sort of money. Even down to the times you have spent doing any/or all of the above.
I have lost 90 pounds being on the program for nearly a year. I am currently 10 pounds from my ideal weight and honestly enjoyed my time spent on the program. The counselers I have at the center I am going to are great and professional.Yes, they do work on commission, but let's be fair, to work in any part of the fitness/weight loss industry, they would be fools not to. Now don't get me wrong, it was not easy. You have to be comitted and really follow all of the rules of the program. Purchasing everything is optional, including the supplements and their snacks. But when I had hit my plateau, they all came in really handy.
The snacks really taste decent and satisfy my sweet/salty tooth. The supplements are natrual ingreidents and yes, before you start the program,if you have any health issues or allergies, no matter how small, consult your doctor. Overall, when I finally deceided to get rid of this weight for good after struggling with all I mentioned for years, LA Weight Loss worked for me. So,in moving forward, I highly recommend that if you even thought about going in just to check it out, do so. It will only take no more than an 1/2 hour of your weight loss search. I am from the school that most weight loss methods work. You just have to figure out which honestly works for you. And be true in the process to make the lifestyle change.

My experience with LA Weight Loss has been pretty positive. I opted to not buy their LA Lites and I strongly encourage you to do the same if you're thinking about joining. Their bars are an absolute waste of money and they won't do anything to curb your appetite for any length of time. I was encouraged to buy them (I was even given some coupons) but I refused and I'm still losing weight without them! If you're going to join LA Weight Loss, join without buying any of their supplements including their vitamins.

Is there an acceptable substitute for the la lites bars that i can buy cheaper at the grocery store. they are just too expensive for me and i agree with the above post that it can help curb the sweet cravings. Isn't there something that has similar nutritional value that i can get? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am a customer of LA Weight Loss. I got RIPPED OFF in a BIG WAY.

I did not even lose an ounce with LA Weight Loss!!! I put my program on Care Credit and initially the sales lady acted like it was only going to be $500.00. They never told me upfront that when I got my LA lites and supplements, I would have to pay additional for those. LA WEIGHT LOSS WEIGHS YOU WITH YOUR CLOTHES ON, FIRST OF ALL MAKING IT SEEM LIKE YOU WEIGH MORE, WHICH IS GOOD NEWS FOR THEM SO THEY CAN EXTEND THE PROGRAM, COSTING YOU MORE MONEY AND SECONDLY, THEY WEIGH YOU THREE TIMES A WEEK, WHICH IS NOT HEALTHY. YOU DON'T KNOW IF A PROGRAM IS GOING TO WORK FOR YOU IN THREE DAYS, AND YOU CAN'T GET YOUR MONEY BACK AFTER THREE DAYS. YOU ONLY PICK UP YOUR BULK SUPPLIES WHEN YOU VISIT THE CENTER AND IN MY CASE THEY WERE ALREADY PAID FOR WITH CARE CREDIT, SINCE I STOPPED GOING, I NOW CANNOT GET THE REST OF THE BULK THAT I PAID FOR. LA WEIGHT LOSS IS A HUGE RIPOFF FOLKS - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT EVEN STEP IN THE DOOR OF THAT PLACE. THEY SAY THAT YOU ARE BASICALLY PAYING FOR THE "COUNSELING" AND SUPPLIES, I DIDN'T EVEN GET COUNSELED, I JUST GOT A BUNCH OF OVERWEIGHT WOMEN TALKING TO ME WHO DIDN'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT DIETING. I KNOW MORE THAN THEY KNOW AND THEY ARE AN INDUSTRY, AND I AM JUST A DIETER.

Thanks to LA Weight Loss and the fact that they did not tell me that if I failed to pay off my Care Credit by the end of the promotional date, HUGE FINANCE CHARGES WOULD BE RACKED ONTO MY BILL. I was making minimal payments up until after the promotional date, when I got my last bill which stated they just tacked on $95.61 worth of finance charges. ALSO CARE CREDIT TOOK A CHECK I SENT THEM FOR PAYMENT, CASHED IT, AND THEN NEVER POSTED IT TO MY ACCOUNT. THANKS TO LA WEIGHT LOSS, MY BILL RACKED UP TO $1545 AND POTENTIALLY RUINING MY CREDIT. THANK GOD FOR ATTORNEYS BECAUSE THAT IS WHO I AM GOING TO NEXT.

Hi, I joined LA weight loss last friday so I have been on it for a week. I called before I went in and asked point blank, please tell me if there are any other costs besides the 5.00 a week ( i had an online coupon for that!) They said a reassuring no) I was psyched. They tell me how by this time next week I can lose 5 lbs! So I go to my appointment, they weigh me show me all the people on the wall who had success and tell me about the program, and wham, it is going to cost 496.00 for my time. I thought about it and normally would not pay but in reality I did Weight Watchers and I paid 13.00 a week and did not get 3 days of 1:1 interaction and that kick in the butt I needed. So far this is a great deal. I just am paying up front for it. I sign up. ! week later my check has not been cashed. I go back 3 days later and they tell me about the bulk rate of LA lites bars that you have to have with your success to weght loss........I am puzzled, whats in these bars that are so damn special? I listened to her ramble, I said no to all three packages, cheapest being 103.00 for 3 separate payments! In order to have that I had to apply for 0% finance option....... I turned it all down, she did not seem pleased so she called her area manager to see if she could get me a better deal than her. Well she was not available and I walked out with one box at 31.00, I know it is more than the discount but I can't see myself buying these every week for a year so what gives. She said things to me like "you can't fit this in your budget, put a little money aside in an enveleope, you can't be disciplined? It offended me. Not only to mention I was told there were no other hidden costs. I explained I just paid you 496.00 and now you want more? For what 3 days of counsiling and a diet program, which if I cancelled now I could do on my own for nothing? (but I need that kick in the butt and extra help) So I buy one box of bars go home and think, hmmm ebay sells everything and they sure do......... buy them on ebay. Don't buy the supplements and lose weight. Jenny Craig was more expensive, it would cost me 100.00 per week for food....... (just for me, my family still needs to eat!) WW would be lile 600.00 if you paid up front, etc etc. Do I think how they do business is sketchy, absolutley I don't like the hidden trap, the lies etc but I really need to lose weight and it is cheaper than the rest so I had to do it. I will not be buying any more bars from them....

LA WEIGHT IS A RIPE OFF. I STARTED THE PROGRAM ON MARCH 15, AND I GAVE THEM $416. SO WHEN I MADE IT HOME ON THAT SAME DAY,DECIDED THAT THIS WAS TO MUCH MONEY TO BE SPENDING AND THIS DIDN'T INCLUDE THE FOOD,SNACK,NOR SHAKE. SO I DECIDED THAT I WANTED MY MONEY BACK. DO YOU BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. SO I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE. AND THE SAID I SHOULD GET A REFUND WITHIN 15 DAYS !!!!! GUESS WHAT?????? I HAVEN'T RECIEVED IT YET. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHATS THE PROBLEM L A LOST. DID YOU LOSS MY MONEY.

I joined LA Weight Loss four days ago - and just completed the first two "intense" days of the program. Like nearly everyone else above, I feel that I have been ripped off. I am a highly educated woman who happens to be about 50 pounds overweight - - - but feel I need help in training myself to be disciplined. When I made that first appointment by phone, I was told the program would cost $199.00 for the entire year, plus "a small set up fee", which turned out to be an additional $159.00. The "counselor" went on to inform me that in order for the weight loss program to be "guaranteed", I had to purchase LA Lites at the cost of $28.00/week - a little less if you buy them in bulk. My individualized program states that I will lose all of my 53 pounds in 26 weeks. For the LA Lite bars alone: $28.00/week for 26 weeks - you do the math. I have an acquaintance at work that spent - no joke - $2,400.00 over the course of her 30 week program - all on supplements that she felt she "had to buy". Granted, hers was a weight loss success story - she lost all the weight she wanted - but LOOK AT THE COST!!
P.S. I had a fifty dollar discount coupon to join the program, as a friend of mine is currently doing the LA weight loss program and she gave me these "referral coupons". The LA counselor was QUICK to sign me up and take my money - and in the end I was told "you got such a great deal when you signed up - we won't give you this fifty dollars off". WHAT?????????

I go back tonight for my first weigh-in. I'll be strong. I'm doing this without the money-wasting supplements or LA Lites. I'm going to find something comparable at SAMS CLUB or e-bay....after all, its just a protein, soy based bar (why pay $2.00 each for them??)
Good luck with whatever you decide - but I'm beginning to think I've been scammed.

I joined LA Weightloss 6 weeks ago. I have lost 7 lbs. but it is slow going. What the other bloggers have said is true. You go in for free consultation and they make it seem so easy to lose weight and are so enthusiastic. God forbid you go in for your thrice weekly weigh-in and you have actually gained weight - yes even 4 oz. - that means they don't ring the little bell after they weigh you. There's just silence when you leave the weigh in room. If the bell does get rung, there is clapping, woo hoo's, etc. The whole place knows if you have been good or bad. The thing that really bothers me is that they don't encourage you to excercise. What good is dieting w/o it. They never ask if you are even trying to exercise. In the daily weight journal where you list everything you eat, it says "Daily Activity" but they could care less if you list something or leave it blank. I have never had one comment about it. I have spent close to $1,000 on this program. Another problem is that program does not take into account your height or weight. I get to eat the same amount of starches, proteins, and calories as an extremely overweight person or a tall person. (I'm 4'11 and 30 lbs overweight) Of course it is slow going for me. I will never get the lost 10 lbs. in one week. They really encourage you to eat the protein bars twice a day but they are 270 calories. That is 540 extra calories a day for me. I've cut down to one a day, they do fill you up, but of course I've bought a 6 month supply that will now last me much longer. Just make sure you get all of the information before you sign up. Some counselors are nice other are annoying as hell. I am going to specifically request not to ever see one.

I joined LA Weight Loss last week and I kind of agree with the above "blogs". Yes, it is successful, I know three people who have lost 60+ pounds and kept it off...so, wanting to lose about 50 pounds, I was encouraged and figured the THREE times a week 1:1 meeting would be a good way to stay on track. I also received a "coupon" from a friend and got $50 off and only have to pay $5/wk - versus the $9. When I went in and told her I wanted to lose about 50 pounds, she said no way - too much and I was encouraged - wow - honesty... So, I am losing less and it will take me about 26 weeks - they say. I paid $526 up front and was told that's it...all smiles. Then on my second appointment, she gives me this bag of bars and tells me they'll discuss "bulk options" at my next appointment. I pressure her for an amount - I also am in sales...she tells me $500 - $1000. WITH my 30% coupon. She's CRAZY. LA Weight Loss is CRAZY. Of course, she tells me if I follow the diet, plan, etc. AND am on track I get a 25% refund @ 6 mos. and another 25% at 12 months...still smiling. So, basically half of my $526 back - of course, I have to eat 2 LA Lites a day and I CANNOT buy them from E-Bay. Only LA Weight Loss. You know what I told her? Take her LA Lite and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. How much sense does it make to pay $1000+ to get $200 back? Hmmmm. She was not smiling then! 1 of the people who lost all of the weight, did not take any of their supplements or eat their crappy bars. I ate one and it tasted like cardboard. One was decent, but no different than Luna bars. I'll stick to those. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here is my point of view ! I was a counsoler for these people, but with a lot more insite, you see I have a degree in the medical field. When I was employed with them I personally had taken over 100 of their "clients" off of the supplements because of medical contradictions. Because of my actions I ended up losing my job, but I feel that if I saved one persons life it was worth the ramifications. Just because the products are natural & herbal does not mean they are safe. Please ask your family physican if these products are safe for your personal use. '

My complaint about LA Weight Loss is their dishonesty. One of my mom's friends has lost a lot of weight on the program, so I thought I would check it out. There is NO information about pricing on the website, other than $7 a week. So I called the 800 number and asked for more info -- they told me that I had to go in for a "free consultation" so they could explain about my specific plan. I was assured that this would NOT be a high-pressure sales program, just that they couldn't give me specifics without meeting with me in person. Fine. So I call the local office, set up an appointment, and explain to the woman that if I'm going to have to come up with a bunch of money (like $800) up front, I'm not interested. I also told her I needed to lose about 90 pounds and that I was a working mom, so I would really appreciate it if they didn't take up a lot of the minimal time that I have to spend with my kids with a big sales pitch for a program I couldn't afford. She assured me that would not be a problem.

So, guess what? I get to the office and fill out their stupid paperwork, get weighed and sit down with a teenager whose only other job experience is working at the mall. It takes about fifteen minutes to do that stuff, then the teenager does 45 minutes of sales pitch. First, she tells me it's $7 a week, but I will need one week for each two pounds, plus eight weeks after I lose the weight to do "pre-maintenance" and then A YEAR of maintenance, all of which I have to pay for up front. Also, I will need to buy their bars and their supplements for them to "guarantee" my weight loss. This is an additional $50 per week ($30 for the bars, $20 for the supplements.) So, for those keeping score at home, that's 105 weeks to lose 90 pounds at a total cost of $6000. (That's a per pound cost of over $60.) But, they only need $735 today. I said "I told you on the phone I wasn't going to start something that required me to pay $800 up front." Whereupon I was told that it wasn't $800, it was $735 and if I couldn't afford it, they'd finance it for me. 90 days for free. She was really pushy and insinuated that I was a failure because I didn't just have $800 to give someone I didn't know for a plan I didn't know would work. I told her that wasn't the issue, for one thing I wasn't going to spend that kind of money without talking to my husband first. This seemed to mystify her for a moment, but she jumped right into "I'm sure your husband wants you to be healthy, isn't he supportive." I finally looked her straight in the eye and said "If someone is ok with their spouse just taking $800 out of the bank for a diet, with no discussion, when they have bills to pay and children to feed, that's more than just being supportive, that's being abused." I walked out.

The other problem I had was that this teen was just insistent that I take their supplements, including some sort of appetite suppressant. I told her I couldn't do that because I take high doses of stimulant drugs for another medical condition. She assured me that a doctor was LA Weight Loss' president, so it was ok.

Between the used-care sales techniques and the pseudo medical advice, this is one program that is really scary. I encourage anyone who's been taken by these people to report it to your local BBB and your attorney general. They've been fined before for fraudulent sales techniques and maybe it's time they get fined again.

I have been on the LA Weight Loss program for 3 weeks now and lost 10lbs. I take my own 1 A Day (Weight Smart) vitamin and some of their supplements. I noticed after taking the supplement that I felt weighted down, anxious, irritable, fatigued and had mood swings. I stopped the supplements, but continued with my 1 A Day vitamin and felt much better- had clear thoughts. BE CAREFUL-- these "counselors" are trained sales people not doctors-- always check with your physician! I am still losing weight without their supplements - I still eat the LA Nutritional Bars because of my sweet tooth and since soy protein is a healthy addition to my aging female body. I did notice that I spent quite a bit of money - over $1200 so far. I had to pay for a years worth of "counseling" and products. I bought the middle ( intermediate ) bulk product inventory option - which was not presented as an option, but a necessity for optimal weight loss. I will not be getting a refund for the supplements that gave me unfavorable side effects.

I also noticed that they called me initially about my appointment(s), offering to reschedule and even "wait" for me if I was stuck in traffic... but once they got my money I could go for ---- well let's say if I don't get in touch with them -- they would not know or even care if I was having success on their program. Oh, by the way, since I am now a seasoned client -- new customers will get jumped before me during visits-- even if they enter the center after me --- why? Only new customers have appointments --- when you become a "client" you are seen when/if you drop into the center at their discretion -- bring a magazine or lap top --- they have your money, you are no longer a promising sale! Anyway, I am still following the program (basically portion controll- lower fat and salt consumption, lots of water 64oz/day) and assessing myself , I also have a work out partner - we meet at least once a week, but encourage each other frequently.

If you are considering the LA weight loss program- it can help you to lose weight, but be prepared to spend a lot of money, consult your physician and DON'T
buy the bulk -- it's a sales tactic and you may not even be able to use some the products. Be careful with the supplements! Don't expect them to give you all the encouragement or enthusiasm you get during your first few visits on a regular basis --- it's about marketing and getting their comission!!! Be fair to yourself.

I have been doing the program for almost 2 weeks now. I agree with what most people are saying. In my case I told the counselors that I would not do the LA Lites; instead I have compared the nutrition information from their bars (caramel, chocolate crunch) to other diet foods like SlimFast Optima shake and found them to be almost identical; in calories, calories from fat,...etc. Well, the Slim Fast shake has more protein, potassium, and vitamins. I keep writting in my diary the use of the shake and everytime the counselor takes a look, they get upset. I have lost about 7 pounds already. I think that the LA Lites are very tasty; not a bad product; just that their cost is tripled. I will probably try to get them from ebay. If not, no big deal. There are plenty of diet foods out there that have better nutritional benefits that their overpriced bars. Just look around. The thing that really gets me is the no-bars/no counsel treatement that you will get; even paying $500 membership. Anyways, it is kind of disapointing. However, I am getting the results I want, and doing it without starving or craving much. My reccomendation to all is to invest all that LA Lite money into a gym & personna trainer. That's what I did.

Last summer I went into the LA weight loss center to join. The commercials all said that it was $7 per week. Now I am a college student (a broke one) so I thought it was a good idea. I talked to a worker and she made me feel really good about joining and so I did. I paid about $40 and when I asked about the $7 per week she said that it was combined plus tax. I started the program thinking that I would pay $40 per month. So I go in two weeks later to find that I had lost 6 pounds to start. I was excited. Then I get another worker who congratulates me then she pulls out the paper to pay for the la lite bars. At first they give you a sample box to try and they are really good. So I'm thinking it shouldnt cost that much but she tells me that it would cost me $1000 (yes $1000!) to buy so many cases of la bars. When I explained that I could not afford it, her whole demeanor changed. After that I noticed that they would try to get me to buy their products everytime I came in. And when I didn't buy things they would appear to be mad. It would be different if the products were reasonably priced, but $30 for a box of 12 bars? I cancelled and now I diet on my own and I am very successful by myself.

I went to LA weightloss yesterday for my free consultation. I think people are ridiculous for putting LA Weightloss down. Ok. They say $7 a week and they are not lying. You pay on a basis of $7 a week, you just pay it up front. People just feel better about paying weekly, but things like weight watchers that charge you $12 a week actually end up costing you more. I didn't have the almost $700 I needed so I informed the woman that I would have to wait to join. She told me it was my choice but I would lose the %10 discount if I didn't sign up on the spot. She gave me a really good solution. I paid $100 down and they are going to draft an additional $100 from my account for the next 6 months. Simple enough. No financing. Just a payment plan because I didnt have good enough credit to finance. I was offered bars and supplements though I told her that I would prefer to not have the bars. She warned me that I wouldnt get my %50 percent back at the end of it all, but I figure I'm saving $1500 so thats ok. Lots of people do the program without the bars. She didn't push me any further and was really nice about it all. We did talk about supplements which I actually asked for and she did not try and sell to me and we figured out which ones I was looking for and it would only cost me $10 a month for a bottle of the vitamin. Thats not bad considering I would pay the same at GNC. Everyone downs LA Weightloss, but the actually cost of the program is less than most others, and you only pay for the bars if you chose to pay for the bars. And when they say they don't guarantee the diet, they are only talking about the %50 back. Let's be realistic, if they make the optimal plan around the bars and you don't take the bars then you might not lose as fast, so they aren't going to guarantee to pay for your extra couple of weeks. Oh well, pay an extra 40 bucks to make up for the lack of bars and you are fine. What weight loss company doesn't try and sell you products. People are just cheap these days. They hear big numbers and get dumb. LA Weightloss is a good plan. All reviews say they have a good diet, just they sell you lots of stuff. HINT: Do not buy the extras!. easy as pie. I will talk to my counselor about buying them off ebay as they cannot stop me from doing so and i already realize they will still not give me back the guarantee, but maybe she can help me work them into my plan even though I am not buying them from them.

I joined LA Weightloss today. Luckily I got in on the $4/week. Initially, the lady wanted me to do a 52-week maintenance program after my initial weightloss and 6-week "reprogram" - I told her that I was not prepared to pay that much - so I did not opt for the Money-back program which costs about $100 more upfront for only a $200 money back guarantee, plus I heard that the money back is hard to actually get - there are "loopholes". Additionally, when she said something about buying my la lite bars at the next consultation - I went ahead and reminded her that they were optional, but I would be purchasing them online. She did not seem pleased, but didn't say anything. So we will see how things go. I have heard so many good things about this program, that I had to give it a try.

Where online are you going to purchase the Bars. I could use the site too. And good luck by the way.

I wish I had found this website before joining LA Weight Loss.....I feel like I have been taken for a ride...I went yesterday for my third visit to be weighed and they explained to me about the LA Lites bars....they are incredibly expensive. I explained to the lady that I did not anticipate spending more money and that I would need to consult with my husband, she then says "I thought your husband was supporting you" I replied yes, me not LA Weight Loss Center...anyway, I am consulting my attorney general TODAY!! I reccomend anyone else doing the same!!

You can buy the bars online on ebay!!!! Although, if you do this you won't get a refund, but it won't matter because they're USUALLY much cheaper and I know of no one who has qualified for the refund.

I am on the program ( a little over a week ) and find the bars ARE good - some more than others. I was given a "trial pack" that included one of each and the Caramel and Mint are the BEST - I look forward to them. That said, I do feel it's a scam and they reel you in, cash your check then tell you about the Lites... but as someone previously mentioned, I could give a rip about the refund. I bought a bulk package of the bars - the smallest one and I'll eat them as long as I want then I'll sell mine on e-bay! The supplements I won't buy either.

This program, while somewhat of a scam (by way of their recruiting) DOES work - I've seen the results... Even with the bars, it ends up being cheaper than anything else. So, if you can get past their shady scheme of reeling you in, the weight will come off - just don't bank on the refund! :o)

Good Luck everyone.

I had initially lost 70 pounds on my own, and gained about 30 back. I went to LA Weight Loss with high hopes. Well, I am not doing well, have lost 11 pounds in 32 weeks - do the math - not so great!!!

The program is well worth it if it works. But - it does not seem to be doing the job for me.

Just a tip - I get my bars and biscotti on E-bay at about half the price that LA Weight Loss wants.

I have about 3 weeks left, and then, I am going to go out on my own and work just as hard as now - but save myself some money.

Since partnering with LA Weight Loss on Dec. 7, 2004, I have lost 46 lbs. and I am still losing. I follow the plan that is assigned to me. For Meaghan's purpose, the plan is all about eating correctly. You measure portions of food and you are guided as to the classifications of food you eat daily. For instance, on my plan I can have 2 1/2 proteins,4 vegetables, 3 fruits, 3 starches, 1 fat, 1 dairy, and 2 LA Lites each day. You are given a guide that tells you what kinds of proteins, vegetables, fruits, etc. you can have and then it is up to you to make sure you only have what you are supposed to have. Additionally, they give you a list of frozen entrees you can buy at the store (i.e. Healthy Choice, etc.) but you have to be careful about the sodium. Plus, they give you a small restaurant guide of popular locations and certain menu items that identify what you are eating (i.e. how many proteins, starches, etc.) You can also get a recipe book that provides you with a lot of single serving recipes that also identify the content of the meal (i.e. how many proteins, starches, etc.) All I know is that it works. I am 50% to my goal and when I get there I don't plan on looking back. One of the things that others have not mentioned, is that if you make your goal and stay within 5 lbs. of it for one year, you get 1/2 your money back. So, yes, it would seem to be expensive, but the rewards you get make it a worthwhile investment.

i have some questions. one is that there is an internet special but at the bottom of the coupon it says for existing la weight loss clients. so can i use this being new. don't the existing clients pay up front anyway. the sign and commercials also offer a 7 dollar special not including set up(what is set up) i thought the consultation was free.

do they charge by the pound or week. how much are they going to try to get me for 100 pounds. if i have the 5 dollar or 7 dollar?

i will buy the bars elsewhere. i have read anywhere from 250 plus to 500 for my weight.

i joined LA weightloss right before new year's because of their $3/week special... as everyone else has said, they make the program sound to go to be true so of course, i signed up... i did NOT however, buy their bars and she hassled me to no end until finally i said, "i'll buy them on ebay instead"... that shut her up pretty quickly... i was on the plan for maybe 2 weeks and hated it - i was hungry all the time and felt so limited to what i could eat... i stopped going and just ate the $300 that was on my credit card... i am now doing weight watchers on my own and am doing much better - i'm actually losing weight while eating foods i enjoy... i'm sure this plan works for some but it didn't for me...

I heard that Luna Bars were the same ingredients as the L.A. Lites. Does anyone know if this is correct information?

I wish I had read all this info before I dragged my desperate self into that LA Weight Loss building. Same deal - they figure out how much you need to lose & base the program cost on that (I got hit for 80 pounds at $5 per week....ouch!). Initially I was told it was $7 per week, but when I resisted, she quickly droppped it to $5 per week claiming there was a coupon out there that she could apply. Another thing people should know about their so-called "guarantee" to lose weight: it only applies if you go 3 times per week & if you eat 2 LA Lites per day. That brings me to the LA Lites! $28 per week for a double box. So here we are looking at $33 per week total. Now I get introduced to the "bulk price"...$20 per double box...sounds better & I bite. I must have been nuts! And this is all before you even find out what kind of eating plan they are going to offer you!!!!!! SO now I am sitting on over $1500 worth of bars (on the dreaded GE Care Credit) of course. SO I turn to e-Bay & sell the bars to pay off my credit card. Next step, once all the bars are gone? Contact customer service for them to credit my unused weeks back. I have this in writing from one of their reps. Once the bars are bought, they are yours!!! The way I am working it is by still going in to the center to get fresh bars each time I make an e-Bay sale, and have to get the weight-in & lecture about why I am not doing any of their supplements. So frustrating.

Another thing I must add - I had just bought $1500 in bulk LA Lites & the very next DAY I went in to the center they were offering a promotional rate of 25% off any bulk purchase. "Oh, it was a last-minute offer we were told to promote". That made me sick to my stomach. They must have known about it, and it cost me a difference of $375!!! What a kick in the pants. So if anyone decides to just go for it & join, be sure to ASK if there are any better deals or any discounts coming up.

I haven't lost a but 4lbs on LAWL and I have been on it for 3.5 months. Total bummer. But I haven't always been "true" to the program, either. So it's my own fault, as far as that goes.

I've sunk a LOT of money into this program and am frustrated beyond belief. BUT, the staff, while certainly no diet experts, are encouraging and helpful nonetheless. They do really want me to reach my goal and they say they are committed to counseling me until I get there. I remember when they told me they'd guarantee 2 lb a week I laughed. I'm the slowest loser known to man because I'm hypothyroid. I started on Gold, but since I walk 3x week and play volleyball 2x/week, they put me on Blue, which is yielding the same results as Gold, but I'm stayaing truer to Blue than I was to Gold.

I bought the big year-supply of Lites in bulk and put it on Care Credit. They told me it was 90 days same as cash. I'm a pretty smart lady who's pretty savvy when it comes to credit, so I KNEW there'd be a big hike in interest rate at the end of the promo period. So my plan is to pay it off by June 26, which is when it ends. No bait and switch, people. These types of financing offers are extremely common. Assume they come with a price if you don't pay in 90 days. To me, that's common sense and not some conspiracy on the part of LAWL to rip you off.

I'm only now coming to the realization that it's probably the BARS that are stalling my weight loss! I considered getting them on eBay, but the price went up to the point where, with shipping & handling, it wasn't worth it....and where on earth would I keep them all. And won't they get stale after a while? And what if I get really tired of the flavor I got? I thought it was worth paying a little more to have fresh bars in whatever flavor I choose at whatever time I choose. But I'm only doing one a day from now on, if that many. To stay one step ahead of the the staff, I'm going to continue picking them up from the office and just stash them whereever I find room! LOL

LAWL is a business, just like anything else. I think we get so emotional about the fact they conduct themselves as such because it's our weight we're talking about...a very volatile and personal subject you expect people to handle with care and compassion. Just keep that in mind.

I bought into LA Weight Loss after New Years. I purchased the bars also denting my credit car in the tune of around $1000. I lost 20 lbs the first twelve weeks. Then, I hit a plateau and have not lost any weight since. After I stopped loosing so much weight, I have not been treated with any respect and it takes a whole 2 minutes to get weighed, counseling is non-existent and I am on my merry way. I purchased this program hoping the councilors would help me when I go through the rough times. What I found out is they don't know how to help you when you need it most. I am very disappointed and sad I wasted all my money. It is a waste of my time and gas to drive to the center for weigh in.

I saw their commercials and heard it on the radio. I really want to lose about 50 lbs for the summer. I've called in and set an appointment already for this Saturday to go in for a free consultation. After reading these blogs I am very skeptical. I think I'm going to cancel my appointment now.

Reply
Kathy on 05/26/05

Does anyone know that the cancellation policy is? I just went in for the 1st day on Monday the 23rd? After realizing just how much it will all cost, i'm not sure I want to do this. I paid with my credit card. Please let me know.

You can cancel within 3 days...I believe. Yes, it is expensive, but if you stick to it, it seems to work. I am @ an avg. of 2 lbs. a week and this is my 5th week. I've found that you need to weigh in FIRST thing. Don't eat before you go, if possible. Just drink lots of water.

Yes, the bars are pricey - but no more than other bars (if you buy them in bulk). I love the Caramel - however, they've changed them. Initially, I thought it was AWFUL, but they've grown on me. Mint is also good and the double chocolate. Cookie Dough was a tad too sweet. Chocolate crunch was ok. The lemon and the fruit I would not ever crave, but I could tolerate them. I still have to get to the PB.

Again, it's expensive and they're not AT ALL upfront about the pricing, but it does work. Just follow the plan and drink the water.

BTW - I've NEVER taken a supplement. NEVER.

Good luck!
