Weight Loss Surgery: For the Young and Old

Gastric Bypass Surgery has been growing in popularity for the old and the young. Despite many risks:

Dramatic weight loss stories from celebrities and other obese people who've undergone the surgery have also fueled interest.

The University of Illinois in Chicago has also announced it will perform the Lap-Band procedure for severely overweight teens.

During LAP-BAND surgery, an adjustable silicone band is placed around the stomach to help the patient lose weight. The band separates the stomach into a small upper pouch and a larger lower pouch. When patients eat, the small upper pouch fills quickly, leaving the patient feeling full.
