The Skinny On Diet Adverts

For your viewing pleasure - a small selection of web adverts (click on them for the full-size version). It's one thing to lose weight to better your health, energy, and fitness. It's another thing to try and attain a body shape that you were never really meant to be.

Are these unrealistic? You be the judge.

The "dare to wear white" one is the worst. The woman in the "before" picture doesn't even look like she needs to lose weight, anyway.

I agree with Kiki. I'm not gonna hate skinny women, it is the advertisement iteslf that is mindblogging and stupifying. It's simply a slap in the face.

I don't think they look realistic at all. The "white after Labor Day" girl probably just put on a new outfit...it doesn't look like she actually lost any weight. I think some companies do have realistic looking women on their sites though. Weight Watchers is one that usually has ordinary looking people on their website's "after" pictures. At least it gives people some amount of hope :)

As Alex says "I'm not gonna hate skinny women" - it's the fact that these ads are promoting various by displaying some fairly underweight bodies. It doesn't really match up... and you're right about Weight Watchers.

Is it cold to be so thin? I have this strange urge to provide the above women with thermal underwear and parkas.
The lady in white is also featured on Nutrisystem TV commercials. She states something like, "I went from a 10 to a 2! [Wheee!]".

10? 10?!

Stripped to the bone, I believe that my pelvis would be quite snug in a 10. ^_^

see i can understand why dieting from a size 10 to size 2 IS bad for you, but some people cant help being that thin.

Jen, I'm very athletic/thin and have low body fat. (I am trying to get it back to a healthy level, but I guess I'm technically underweight at the moment). And yes, I do get cold very easily. It's not the greatest feeling in the world and I don't understand why side effects of being too thin aren't understood by more people.

What is up with all those ads with already thin women dieting. Like those Special K commercials, with that woman that's about to lick the bowl of chocolate frosting but then eats Special K instead.
I'm pretty sure a little frosting won't make her gain 5 pounds overnight.
