Oprah's Weight Loss Secrets

As a Valentine's Day special, Oprah Winfrey devoted her entire show to weight loss - answering all the questions she is constantly asked.

There aren't actually many secrets. Oprah worked closely with personal trainer Bob Greene - author of the book "Get With The Program". It is a good book - going through the gradual changes of getting your diet right, and incorporating a strong fitness aspect. Bob Greene himself says:

This is not a diet book.
This is not a fitness book.
This is a book about moving - in the right direction. It's a book about getting real about getting back into shape, physically and emotionally, realistically and gradually.

What about Oprah's diet? This diet-blog post talked about how Oprah eats no refined carbs. That's just a small piece to the puzzle. The diet follows the general principles of; increased lean protein, moderate healthy fats, and reduced refined carbs (not to be confused with a very-low-carb diet).

So there you have it - an excellent fitness component, and a clean balanced diet - the keys to sustainable weight loss. Like it or not, exercise and fitness are a part of any weight controlled lifestyle.

UPDATE 2007: Bob Green released his new program - The Best Life Diet. This, again, is heavily endorsed by Oprah. The book even contains a full weeks worth of Oprah's meal plans.

Oprah look beautiful, wonderful, marverlous, sexy and fantastic. Oprah you did it for your self and for others, and I like that about you. You now encourage me to lose weight. I live in Freeport
Grand Bahama and I watch your show just about everyday. Oprah I would love to meet you in person, just to really talk about this weight that I am battleing everyday. Thank You!

I'm 40 and overweight. I feel that I'm trapped inside a fat lady's body. I feel that my body doesn't represent who I really am. At the department store, I am smaller when standing in front the funny mirror (the kind that makes you look thin). At home, I see the thread almost forced to expand at the zipper and the hem line shorter in the back than the front. I know I'm totally responsible for the way I look. Childbearing was my defense but, after 15 years, it no longer holds. I'm going to try losing this weight one more time.

I don't watch Oprah much, time dosen't permit, but when I do, it is always meaningful. I want to applaud Oprah for her acheivements and wish her much happiness.

Dear Oprah,
In spite of all the correspondence made with ediets regards the above complaint of the unauthorised use of my credit card by ediets, it seems that ediets has decided to ignore all mails sent and does NOT offer any explanation for the aforementioned complaint.THIS IS UNETHICAL & UNBECOMING of such a reputed program & website.

I LOVE Oprah! She is the warmest, most generous, and most amazing woman ever! I personally think her success with television has to do with her good Karma. She is brilliant! I watch EVERY day. She is my hero. And all those people who are accusing Oprah of getting surgery and lying, shouldn't just point fingers without proof. Maybe your just jealous that Oprah had the self-conrol that you wish you had and now your cynical. Or maybe you've always been cynical, but either way, your callous comments are pissing me off!

Diets do not work and Oprah seems to go on a lot of yo-yo diets. She may be slim now but in a couple of months she might be overweight again. Her yo-yo diets set a very poor example for viewers and fans who look up to her.
Also, Oprah also has the money to be afford a dietian, personal cook, and etc. Most people cannot afford these kind of luxuries.

Dear Oprah
I've gained a little over 80ibs during my pregnancy I got up 228ibs and Im only 5'2!!! I am now down to 178ibs. Although I am still very large the weight is finally coming off with a little bit of dieting but mostly alot of exersing. I believe that the true secret to losing weight is that you have to be doing it for YOU and no one else, and you also have to believe in yourself and know that the weight won't come off overnight.

What about those of us who work night shift. Noone every talks about how we must eat or not eat and it is a very hard struggle for proper sleep but some of us don't have a choice if we want to keep a roof over our heads. Please help us too.

Deborah, my mom worked from 12am-8am for years and the same foods that worked for her to maintain weight when she'd worked from 8am-4pm. So even though your lunch may be at 3am, there is no need to eat differently than anyone else.

Let me start out by asking a very serious question: If all these popular weight loss diets, books and programs being marketed over the years have really been effective, why have the number of people engaged in unhealthy lifestyles and becoming overweight to obese exploded to over 65% of the total population?!”

While "weight loss" is cool & chique, it is just the tip of the ice berg.
So many people searching for the "next great remedy" to bady fat, through some "magic" drugs, rubs, lotions & potions...duped, time and again.

You can afford anything you want but unless you have the willingness to change(spelled "discipline"),you will never achieve your goals. You can throw all the money you want at it and it won't do you any good.

Wynonna Judd has resources too, but here's the negative way she approaches them-and also throws you off the track!

"Yet Wynonna doesn't feel that her wealth has given her much of an advantage in the weight wars. "People have written to me and said, 'Oh, you have so much money, you can hire so many people....' Let me tell you something: Some of the best workouts I've ever had while on the road have been just me and a good pair of tennis shoes, running my butt up and down stairs in a parking garage. So don't give me this stuff about 'I can't go to a gym.' Crap! That's crap because there are ways to do this. You don't have to have a fancy outfit or a fancy gym. Just walk. Get moving.""

See what I mean? As long as you're looking for excuses, that's all you'll ever have.

I think its time for the government to get involved. For one thing they need to make healthy foods more affordable, its so much cheaper to buy junk food then fruits and vegetables. I applaud that they took all the junk machines out of schools now they need to make manditory classes on being healthy and things kids need to know in everyday live instead of shoving history and science down our throats I mean really how often do you use that stuff in adulthood. and yes the best exercise is walk walk walk and its free go to the park or mall and just go I put my granddaughter on a bike at the park and chase her wish I had as much energy well good luck to all I hope your body goals come true

I have had a weight problem all my life and nothing I did seemed to work. About a month ago a friend gave me some samples of Zylene and I almost threw them out but I figured I had nothing to lose. What a difference it has made in my life. I have already lost 16 pounds and I have so more more energy all day long. I ordered my Zylene from www.LoseMyFatAss.com not an easy website to forget.
