McDonalds Pays For Trans-Fat

McDonalds has announced a $8.5 million settlement. The settlement comes after litigation against McDonald's use of trans-fats (hydrogenated oils):

McDonald's said it will donate $7 million to the American Heart Association and spend another $1.5 million to inform the public of its trans fat plans.

The lawsuit isn't so much about using trans-fats but about the lack of accurate disclosure from McDonalds regarding it's progress in reducing trans fatty acids. As to the issue of trans-fats, here's what Reuters says:

They are created in processing vegetable oils and have been found to be as unhealthy as pure cholesterol. The latest official U.S. nutrition recommendations suggest limiting their intake.
