Low Carb Diets and Flying Aircraft

Sometimes dieting news and opinions can show up in the strangest places. In the latest edition of Combat Edge, a military journal, comes an article about "dangerous dieting":

...this article is on low-carbohydrate (low-carb) diets, a popular but possibly dangerous type of extreme diet that may help you lose weight, but one that may impair your cognitive and physical performance and lower your ability to fly your aircraft, particularly high-G weapons systems.
The article tells some anecdotal stories of impaired pilot peformance (due to dehydration and low muscle glycogen).

Popular media can tend to report the extreme elements of diets. Do low-carb diets work? Yes - for SOME people. Do low-fat diets work? Yes - for SOME people. Low carb diets have been around for a long time, and have been used successfully by many people. Is it for all of us? By no means.

Now we seem to be entering a media backlash - where low-carb diets are being maligned. They do have their place - but not for the masses - and not without careful monitoring and understanding.
