The Fat Ectomorph

Somatyping is the process of categorizing your body type into any of the three groups: ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph. The theory was proposed by Dr William H. Sheldon in the 1940s.

Wikipedia defines each somatype as this:

1. People with an ectomorphic body type are naturally thin and lightly build with flat chest and poorly muscled limbs. They can usually eat as much as they want without gaining fat. Extreme ectomorphs are commonly described as "skinny" individuals.
2. People with an mesomorphic or athletic body type are husky, with a hard and muscular body. Such individuals find gaining muscle mass much easier than ectomorphs do.
3. People with an endomorphic body type easily gain weight in the form of fat or muscles but often have to work very hard to lose fat.

Some people believe the whole concept is faulty, while others base their own literature on it. It is rare to find an individual whom would fit exactly into a single type - most people are a combination of 2 or even 3 of the types. Whatever you believe, genetics do seem to play a significant when trying to lose fat.

But what about fat loss for the ectomorph?
Virtually every definition of an ectomorph talks about a skinny person. However some people propose that ectomorphs are simply those who are active (whether fidgetting a lot, or lots of exercise), but do not eat enough.

I believe it is quite possible for an ectomorph to gain fat - particular after adolescence. However the ectomorph has a predisposition to be lightly built. This means the ectomorph has difficulty building muscle. Conversely, under calorie restriction, the ectomorph burns muscle.

So How Does The Ectomorph Burn Fat?
While appropriate calorie control is important for all fat loss regimes, the ectomorph has to be particularly careful - calories too low will burn muscle (probably much easier than in other body types).

Some people appear to burn fat simply by reducing calories. For the ectomorph, it is more likely that the calorie restriction has to be carefully monitored, and cardio may be the only means to burn fat alongside muscle glycogen.

The much-coveted 6 pack abs can be much more difficult for some than others.

I agree with the statement "that ectomorphs are simply those who are active (whether fidgetting a lot, or lots of exercise), but do not eat enough." I can be described as a classic ectomorph. However I have had an aversion to being fat since I can remember. As a child I remember being afraid of eating any meat. I am a very active person, enjoy exercise and usually only have 2 meals a day. I don't skip breakfast. I was injured playing volleyball now have trouble gaining muscle mass. I think part of my problem is psychological as I am afraid of getting fat, diabetes or stressing out my liver/kidneys from too much protein. I do not think that my body type is entirely genetic. I once forced myself to overeat, drank a lot of milk-based drinks, and slept deliberately after heavy meals. I gained 20lbs and got so scared that I won't be able to stop my weight gain that I exercised like never before to lose all I gained. So hence my point I do not believe that body type is entirely out of one'd control there may be some environmental or psychological influence as well.

that doesn't sound like an ectomorph. that sounds like anorexia.

I think what was meant by the statement "that ectomorphs are simply those who are active (whether fidgetting a lot, or lots of exercise), but do not eat enough." was that they simply don't eat enough - not as a conscious decision and out of fear of gaining weight/health problems but their bodies just happen to require more calories than "normal" people's and they just happen to not be eating those extra calories.

My training partner is an ectomorph (158 lbs.)with a large gut. I recommended a 20% calorie restriction from his maintenance intake divided into 6 meals per day: 40% carbs, 40% protein, and 20% fat (5% sat).

I also suggested cardio for 30 minutes, 3 times per week and weight lifting (total body/ moderately heavy) 3 times per week.

After 6 or 8 weeks he has decreased his body fat from roughly 18% to 12% with little LBM loss, but he still has a little gut. Is it safe to increase carbs and calories a bit so he can pack on some muscle? He's starting to look too skinny.

Sid, your advice to your friend is excellent. Going to 12% bf is superb. I'm surprised he hasn't hit a plateau by now. As for carbs, I feel that the ectomorph is a lot less sensitive to carbs (i.e. a low-carb diet will not have as much impact as with a non-ectomorph). Therefore the ectomorph can increase carbs without the same fat risk as others.

I suggest your friend increases calories to 20% OVER maintenance, and reduces cardio. Do BF tests each week, and see how it goes.

I would love to discuss this. Maybe you could post something in the a href="http://forum.diet-blog.com/viewforum.php?f=9">forums, and we could discuss it. I am more ectomorphic - and burn muscle very easily.

This is going to blow your mind, I feel i could never get the right fitness or diet advice. I am a 32 year old woman who is the smallest in my family of woman, i love the fact that i can eat whatever i want and dont' get fat, but i hate the fact that i still look like a little girl who is under developed. What makes it so amazxing is the fact that I have not 1 or 2 but 4 children. I only gained weight in my pregnancies and then after that I lose it all. The only thing that seems to be a little bigger is my stomach area.

My poor husband is an ectomorph. At about 5 feet 9 inches tall, he weighs around 115 lbs. He definitely has good muscle definition because he does heavy lifting at work, but is very dissatisfied with his body and wears baggy clothes to hide his shape. Considering that I outweigh him by about 50 lbs right now and I'm 3 inches shorter, I find this baffling because I wear baggy clothes to hide my own shape but for different reasons.

Is there any information out there or can anyone give me any advice on how he could go about gaining more body mass thats not muscle but not unhealthy fat tissue?

to gain weight physically its either going to be fat or muscle or both you say can he gain weight that isnt muscle nor unhealthy fat.Simply put he wont gain anything if not one or the other or both, what else is there to gain unless he ties weights to himself!!!

My boyfriend and I are both ectomorphs, and we have no problems or aversions to eating plenty. I am going on 31 and weigh the same if not less than what I weighed when I graduated high school. Our lifestyle does not afford us the ability to eat as much or as often as we'd like. We both live in nyc, so we do tons of walking; he's a drummer/musician [lots of calories burned there] and I do field marketing [lots of physical work]; and we have an incredibly healthy and active sex life [that's a loooooooot of calories, too!].

We both have had problems keeping our weight on. He has lost 8 pounds since we've met, and I've lost about 5 since I moved to NYC 2 years ago. He's Italian, so we already eat lots of pasta :-)

I am at a loss on what we can do to put some weight back on our becoming bony bodies. I fear that it's just not healthy, though we often eat well at home with lots of fresh veggies and salads as well as meat and carbs and desserts [repeat after me: carbs are our friend...].

CAN ANYONE PLEASE GIVE US SOME ADVICE???

As a side note, I am to my limit with other body types feeling they have every right to insult and belittle us ectomorphs and then say it was meant as a compliment when we retaliate to stand up for ourselves. I don't flaunt my size, nor do I buy into the american beauty ideal of skinniness on a pedestal. It's even worse in the Black community, where the ideal is a woman who is a little on the 'thick' side. Growing up hearing 'your narrow ass' is just as traumatic as hearing 'your fat ass.' If someone accosts me as a "skinny blah-blah" with a sneering undertone, am I wrong for replying "you fat so-and-so"? It seems it's only fair that it goes both ways, and skinny people have feelings and deserve respect, too.

holla if you hear me on this...

I've just started researching, and finding out I'm an ectomorph. I dont eat breakfast, but have lunch and dinner, I find it impossible to gain weight, so I shall be changing diet as I learn more, might even attempt that breakfast thing normal ppl do.

If you're an ectomorph and you do want to GAIN weight, try eating late at night, 1 hour prior to going to bed or so. these late night meals should be somewhat high in fat proportion and high in other calories.

So . . . eat your cheesecake and go to sleep. it'll work every time.

My son is an ectomorph (10th percentile for body weight and 50% for height) ,and his pediatrician recommended that I sneak calories into his food wherever I can. Such as adding butter to his vegetables, only whole milk, etc. etc. However, I find that when I do add fats to his meals, he gets full sooner and stops eating sooner. I highly monitor his physical activity. He's wonderful at all non-contact sports, and runs like a gazelle. but because of his light frame, he is at risk for stress fractures, and dehydration. Water, gatorade and light foods during the days and high fat foods at the end of those high physical activity days.

i've always been skinny and underweight... until the past few years or so (i'm 35 now, and a little over 5 feet), when i've seemed to gain a significant amount of body fat in my upper thighs/stomach/waist/butt. my arms/shoulders/lower legs are still fairly skinny/bony. what's sort of baffling is that i don't weigh much more than i ever did--my weight bounces from about 99 up to 104 or occasionally 105 (the most i've ever weighed). sometimes i eat like a pig (fun!) and sometimes i'm too busy or anxious or something and i miss lots of meals, so i'm always gaining and losing the same few pounds. i don't really care what i weigh but it really bugs me that i'm getting that spare bike tire in the middle. any advice on how to get rid of it? cardio? diet? both???? i do go to the gym 3x a week to do weights (although there have been long periods in the last year i haven't been able to make the time to go, so i've had weeks/months without much exercise), but i don't do much cardio. maybe that's my secret? help!! i've heard that the body you have in your mid thirties is the best one you'll have, so i'd really like to slim down my middle back to muscle so i don't get stuck with a soft middle forever... :)

I recently came across the information of the body mass and what term best describes your shape. For the past couple of years iv'e been an ectomorph, never really concerned about how thin i am. But now, at the age of twenty, weighing at about 120 pounds,(height, 5'9)i'm really in the consideration for gaining more weight. I have a high metabolism and i'm always pretty much active, but then again i'm always eating like a cow but i still seem to never gain any weight. I was just wondering what do i really need to do in order for me to gain more weight and muscle mass ( atleast around an extra 20 to 35 pounds. what should i eat and what shouldn't i do, so in advance, thanks.

Thanks for the info. I thought I read somewhere I would be considered a "ruler" type of body, an "apple" shape of body, now a "endomorphic" type. I feel what it all boils down to is I still have to eat right, eat less, and move more. Is there any other answer?

I don't think I'm an ectomorph, but my husband most definitely is. I am more of a mesomorph, as I can gain muscle very quickly and am more on the short side. I think ectomorphs who want to lose weight need desperately to do it by working out. My husband lost weight but not size after college because he stopped working out and consequently began burning muscle. Margaret, as you are an "endomorph", be sure that you get adequate protein when you do cut calories out and be sure that when you move more, that you try to do a lot of cardio as that will help you reduce your apple tummy.

hey guys, i am basically an extreme ectomorph. im 16 years old... 6'1...130 lbs. i eat four meals a day, and i can consume more food than all of my relatives. i have the long limbs, fine hair, and i am a good cross-country runner. i have tried working out, yet the results never come. i have been doing freeweights and pushups for almost a year... and nothing. i think im gonna give it up and just work on running.

guess i just wanted to shout it out!

erikk dude dont give up. All you need to do is pretty simple. Eat more, and rest more. Thats it. I'm 6ft1 and about 1 year ago weighed 136 pounds. Now im about 177 pounds from lifting, eating and resting like theres no tomorow. Looking back aswell you learn as you go so I definatly could have done this faster. Only thing now is my waist is a lil bigger than I would like so I'm gonna try to lose some fat over the next month without losing muscle. I plan on doing this by not over-doing the cardio and SLOWLY reducing calories.

Erikk, eat 6 meals per day, and sleep 8hrs at least every night. Be consistent, if you dont, then dont expect results. Missing even 1 meal is terrible and will set u back. No goin out partying all night, no going for more than 3 hrs without a good meal. It will take dedication but if u want it you can do it. Like I say eat 6 meals per day, 1 every 2.5/3 hrs. Times your bodyweight (lbs) by 20 and eat that many calories per day. Make sure at least 30% of the calories is protien (egg whites/tuna/chicken/beef/milk) and about 40% carbs, the rest fat (try to have unsaturated tho). If you still dont get results, add 250 calories. Keep doing this till you gain more weight. Theres tons of info online if you REALLY want it you will do it.

i have trouble understanding what type i am. i USED TO BE 5"4 and 150-170 lbs, and now i'm 5"4 and maybe 100 lbs, but thats not natural, its just counting calories and walking everywhere instead of driving. So what type am i? i have weak, puny, non existant muscles, but thats cause i dont weight lift or put any effort into developing muscles. i cant be an ectomorph because i was fat for a very long time, and i'm short (arent ectomorphs supposed to be tall?) Does your type change if you lose or gain a large amount of weight?

Reply
ben

No ur 'body type' doesnt change lol. You can change how u look but ur body type is still the same thing. If an endomorph loses a ton of weight through dieting and exercise there still an endomorph, they just dont look like one :) However, most people are a mix of the body types, not just pure ecto/mesa/endo.

I am a 31 year old african american male standing at 6'3 weighting 160 pounds. DISCOURAGING. I've been called horrible names and it's enough at my age to still effect me emotionally. I think I have tried everything. Eating tons of bread, pasta, peanut butter, drinking beer. None of it has worked. I would at least like to get to the 185-190 pound mark but just don't know how. I work a very busy schedule and it doesn't allow me to eat 6 times a day because 10 of those hours are spent in the office. When I do eat, I eat large portions. I have a small frame and I'm very insecure when it comes to wearing short sleeves, tank tops, running/walking shorts and instead I resort to big and baggy clothing. Some of the things people say about my weight are brutal and leave deep scars and I feel a sence of inadequacy. Can anyone help me. I want to help myself, I just don't have a strong support team.

Hello all. I'm 22, 6'1" and 165lbs. This is to all teenage skinny guys. I was anywhere from 145-150lbs in high school. Which is not super thin, but I did noticed that I was usually thinner than most. Anyways, I have just recently been gaining weight (15 lbs.) in the past month. All I did was listen to my body and eat. I also think it is a natural progression for me, although I might work-out more in the future. Although for me I have always had plenty(relatively) of muscle and zero fat. I am now gaining mass.

Dude, I am like 5'10, about 150 lbs, and can't just gain weight. I plan to buy like a bowflex or some free weights and a bench to get stronger and hopefully develop some muscle. My legs are pretty thin and I am suprised a lot of people seemt to have my body type too, since a lot of people I see out there are heavier than me like at my work and college. It's discouraging to have some people give you weird looks or people sometimes say, "You too thin, you need to workout, etc." I hate it, but gotta set yourself up to better yourself. So just workout, and eat good food, and the usual stuff I hear lol.

As some have said above already you must work out with heavy weights and low reps to build muscle if you are an ectomorph. EVEN more important is increasing the resistance a little each time you work out. I've found supersetting to work particulalry well when building mass and I am an ectomorph - it saves your energy but allows you to stress your muscles intensely duuring a workout. and EVEN MORE imporant than this is to each a little more than required - with high protein. You'll find all of this online from hundreds of sources but ectomorphs must workout and eat large but 'clean' meals to gain mass. This is the only type of extra weight you want on your body. Also be careful with Cardio - dont overdo it and avoid lengthy aerobic sessions as you will only burn muscle that you've worked hard for. Stick to HIT High Intensity Ineterval training for fast muscle gain. I've adopted all of these techniques and gained some 10lbs muscle over 2 years - seems like a long time? Well its realisitic - but doable. I still need to work out 3 times a week to maintain - even as an ectomorph and have splurges (damn cheesecake!) that I need to work off but once you've got a solid musle base then its musch easier to maintain - the tough part is getting there first.

Until recently I had tough time gaining weight...graduated HS 6'3" @ 135lbs! Now I'm in my mid-thirties and @ 210, was even up to 230 a few years ago. No problem putting on the weight now, issue is with removeing the gut & love handles.
To gain mass I:
1)As stated above- eat 6 clean meals per day, quality w/protien every one. Fruits & vegies & complex carbs & unsaturated fats. Good multivitamin
2) Lift hard & go home! Try to get out by 45 minutes, around an hour they say your body will start producing cortisol, which will have a negative affect on muscle production. See bodybuilding sites for good basic lifts for size & frequency.
3) REST & RELAX- 8hrs per night & try to remove/manage the stress in you life. Stess creates cortisol.

Following these basics steps, I can gain easily 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Now for my quandry...having a time lossing this gut! Toyed around w/the high protein/low carb thing & the only weight I seem to be lossing is muscle mass. I have resumed moderate carb intake and have increased cardio- 3, 25 minute per week with 3 to 5 weight sessions per week. Consuming approx 210 to 250 grams protien daily, what should I shoot for with carbs & fat? I am @ 17% body fat & would like to get down to 10%, maintaining a weight around 210-215.

I am 14 years old, i am 5'6", and i weigh from 105 to 110 lbs. I'm not sure if im ectomorph, because when i was little, i would eat fatty foods like crazy(my parents didnt really feed me well)and i was very skinny. But now i eat healthy and it looks like i am gaining fat. I think it might be because my metabolism is slowing down(since i'm probably gonna stop growing soon) i've never really been a very active person either.

Hi guys, Im 20 years old, about 6'2" and weigh roughly 168lbs. Im definitely an Ectomorph and have been all my life(haha) My problem is mostly in my mind. Im pretty deeply scarred from countless people throwing abuse at me about my weight. Don't they realise how much it can hurt a guy? Like i havent tried to gain weight! Fools. Im not skinny, particularly, but I desperately want to gain weight. Im paranoid about my legs, its the first thing I look at in the mirror. I hate being like this. I know if I gained 15 pounds or so I'd be so much more self confident.(and Happy!)

Working out? You bet. Its the only thing that keeps me going really at the moment, gives me a litte(if just temporary) relief. Its definitely a must, although I could do with upping the weight a littl here and there. My main problem is CONSISTENCY. I want it so much, yet I find it hard to get motivated. Its weird.

I feel so much for all you guys, I know exactly what your going through. Keep at it, I know I will. I have a feeling its more or a Life struggle than an instant change, but I know its going to be worth it. Can anyone point me in the right direction with Nutrition? Im about to go out shopping now, but I never end up buying the right stuff. Food is the core of any diet, i know that. Its just hard to know what to buy. I need simple food, since I dont have alot of time to cook fancy stuff. Any ideas? Maybe you can advise me about carb shakes? or anything like that.

Any help is appreciated. Let me know If you guys can relate to this, it helps to know. Thanks.

Harry.

You guys need to be careful what you wish for. I graduated high school 6'2", 140 lbs. Fast forward 15 years, after a decade of sitting in front of a computer and still consuming junk/processed food: 210 lbs. And it's all in my belly.

I actually came here to see if weight training vs. long slow distance cardio vs. high intensity short cardio is better for losing weight with my (our) body type.

I'm really glad I found this page because I never knew there were that many people out there with the same problem as I have! I'm 5'3" and have been staying at the 90 lb. mark since the late 90s (and I used to weigh much lesser than that as a child!). I'm extremely skinny, and have gotten teased all my childhood and teenage years for being so skinny. Then when I came out to work, I meet people who just give me funny looks or some colleagues used to gossip behind my back about how they think I'm suffering from anorexia (and I DO NOT!!) because I'm so skinny. Psychologically, all these incidences throughout the years has chipped away at whatever healthy self-image I have of myself - I always feel inadequate, unattractive, and freakish. I can't tell you how much I DREAM of being 20 lbs. heavier than I am. I tried weight-lifting but gave up after 2 years because even after 2 years of regular training plus heavy, healthy meals, I gained only a teeny-weeny bit of muscle-definition but not more. I mean, I was starting to think that I will only look normal by the time I'm 60 - but when I'm 60 I don't think I'd really care anymore how I look!! I was told that naturally very skinny people like me can only hope to achieve big muscles by taking steroids, but I am too averse to that option to even try - since I'm female, doing steroids might make me grow a mustache or look like a man!

I was happy temporarily when I gained around 22 lbs. during my first pregnancy, but sadly all that weight just disappeared miraculously after childbirth - even though I continue to eat as much as I did when I was pregnant right up to this day. I'm pregnant again and am really stuffing myself up with food more so than before. I really really hope that I can retain some of the extra pounds I put on after childbirth this time... Good luck to all of you extreme ectomorphs out there in your quest to be happier with your looks. I'm glad I found this site! :)

I'm 22, 5'9", 120lbs. I've been doing intensive weight-training going on 4yrs and I eat 5-6 meals per day with frequent rests and follow everything I've read about gaining weight. For a 5 month period I was taking Tribulus, which is a herb with anabolic properties for muscle gain. I was taking this 3 times per day and the end result was that I became very moody, fatigued and run-down. I didn't gain any weight! My mom is a nutritional medicine doctor and I take plenty of high-quality products (MetaGenics anyone?) and eat the best food available on the market. I look the same whether I work out or sit on my ass all day. Any advice?

I am a 25 year old ectomorph. I've always been extremely "skinny" and underweight. However, over the past 2 months, I have gained a lot of fat in my stomach, butt, and thighs. The pants I wore a year ago are now too tight to wear. I don't understand why the sudden change. I've always wanted to gain weight, but not like this. I feel like I'm getting bigger in the wrong places & it's just flabby fat. I've tried to cut my calories, but it doesn't seem to be working. Are there any explanations for this fat increase in an ectomorph & how do you work it off? I need help!

I think I'm an ectomorph. I'm 5'10 and weigh 140lbs, I think that's ok though, I actually want to lose weight because I've a slight paunch and I would like an absolutely flat stomach.

What makes me think is I have long limbs, a preference for endurance sports, small joint, fine hair, insomnia, receding chin (!!! I thought that was a wierd one when I saw it in a list, it's me spot on). Still, it's not that hard to gain weight, from 20-22 I lived on mountains of sugared cereal, chocolate bread, pizza and beer and did gain weight. Maybe I'm not 100% pue ectomorph, after all I'm quite short, but I'd say it more accurately describes than the rest. (possibly the fact my friend who is taller than me ate roughly the same and put on 6 stone whereas the weight gain I'm talking about was about 7lbs)

I am 5'11'' and about 120lbs. I have always been tall and muscular.. thank my dad for those genes I guess. I have recently lost quite a number of pounds.. sometimes I see it sometimes I don't. I know that I struggle with my eating.. in fact most of these comments in this forum seem like people have some obsessions. I get confused sometimes on how it is normal to look at food and how its not.

I admit to severely restricting my food at times as means of dealing with stress and am getting help for that.. but I just want to know how like most people to just appreciate my body. I have to wear 0's and XS sizes but can't seem to think that I look okay. I guess it is more of coming to term with myself, as a person. Does anyone ever feel lost like this? I know that I am intelligent for my years.. the short 16 of them.. but why does can't I just accept me for.. me?

I'd say I'm ectomorphic. I'm 6 foot 2 and around 120 pounds.(16 years old) I've tried building muscle but it's very hard to do. Unless you go for very intense working out and a strict diet your not really going to change your body shape if your very ectomorphic. I had pretty toned stomach but I just looked very skinny, because in exercising I'd lost more weight. Even if you have a six-pack, the visable rib-cage, gaunt face and stomach sunken behind the rib-cage are what people notice.

I do tend to gain weight though. When I stopped working out regulary and quit cross-country running I put on 10 pounds over half a year. I probably ate more and less healthy because i knew I didn't have to stay thin and fit too. I was still surprised how much flabbier I got round the waist though. As a few people have said though it's not as great as alot of skinny people think it is to gain ten pounds in fat. It all seems to go to your stomach and butt. I still looked skinny but I got flabby gut to go along with it and my clothes were tighter.

Though I've lost alot of the weight, I'm still carrying alot of fat I gained round the waist. Of course, veryone thinks your mad if your 120 pounds with a 28 inch waist and trying to lose fat but I know I'm carrying about two extra inchs. I'd warn any extomorphic people who try to deliberatly gain weight like this that it's pretty hard to shift.

Hope, your weight gain sounds a bit like mine. If you've stopped doing any sort of exercise regulary that might be it. Just by stopping sit-ups very other night and a bit of running I put on a good bit of weight. As for losing it, I've been doing sit-ups again, but that doesn't really lose the flab, it just shapes it better. I'm not really looking to lose much but things like swimming, cycling, running etc(cardio I suppose) are probably best.

Hey guys,

As an ectomorph who's trying to gain weight, i have formulated a basic plan to pack on heaps. As much as I can. I have gained a few kilo's here and there before, but this time I'm gonna do it!

here's how.

First I am going through a fasting stage of a week. Thats one day water, two days juice & water, three days raw veges, fruit, juice and water. herbals teas too. Why on earth would i starve myself? Well its supposed to slow down ur metabolism! Which means i can gain faster. No more then 500 calories a day.

Day eight i go hardcore into an 8000 calorie a day diet, whilest on the squats and milk excercise routine. Google "squats and milk" to find out what that is. My diet will be:

Breakfast - 1000 calories from toasted museli + peanut butter on toast. (Thats one freakin' huge bowl of museli!)

Mid Morning - 1200 calories from a milkshake (recipe below)

Mid Afternoon - 1000 calories from pasta, with olive oil and generous cheese (thats about 200 grams of pasta)

Nightime - Consume huge amounts of pancakes. Pancakes are amazingly high in calories. One standard packet of pancake mix, when made completely (whole packet is used) sports 2500 calories

Before Bed - 1200 cal shake

Midnight - Wake up for another 1200 cal shake

Total - 8000 cals

Three days a week I'll be hitting the gym for the squats and milk routine. Not including the fast i'll do it for six weeks, and then eventually reduce my calories to around 4000 a day, from much healthier foods too!

Recipe for cheap 1200 calorie shake

400 mls milk
100 grams milk powder (full cream)
4 scoops of Sustagen Hospital Formula
Small Scoop Icecream

combine ingredients and shake.

I SHOULD STRESS THIS IS NOT A HEALTHY DIET. I AM ATTEMPTING TO GAIN WEIGHT QUICKLY. CONSULT A DOCTOR.

Oh...my..gawd! ......8000....8000 calories a DAY?! your going to kill yourself man!
It is extremely unhealthy to shock your body like that. the MOST you should go up to is around 3000 if your desperate. I mean, im no doctor, but thats just common sense! Ok...i havent tried the '8000 calorie' diet, but that just sounds a little too much mate, thats all im saying.

Hey guys. A little over a year and half ago i weighed a mere 145 pounds at 6'2" at the age of 15. I was skinny and had an extremely fast metabolism. Every effort i tried wouldn't get me to gain wieght. Thats when i researched the topic and found out i too am an ectomorph. Since then, i have always eaten 6-7 meals a day and worked out at least 4 times a week with heavy weights. In a little over 1 year at home and 6 months at the gym, I have gained 45 lbs. Most of the weight gain is from muscles, but the higher calorie intake did add some fat. At 17, I am currently trying to loss the fat that i gained over the bulking process. It is still hard for me to put on lean muscle, but with dedication and consistency, anything is possible.
