Kraft & South Beach Diet: Oxymoron?

In 2004 Kraft announced it would be partnering with the South Beach Diet to introduce a new line of foods.

Very soon they are beginning a large rollout of these products (presumably to coincide with the release of the South Beach Diet paperback) - reports Chicago Business.

It seems like an unholy alliance of two very big industry players. Kraft are behind an enormous number of processed foods and brands - yet the Agatstons South Beach talks a lot about unprocessed foods. Is it just a sell out?

It's hard to believe that Kraft would actually care about it's customer's health - particularly after rewarding the CEO with a nice $1.8 million bonus.

Is it just another version of labelling trickery to snare in the frazzled consumer? Will the South Beach Foods go the way of the fading "Low-Carb" branding phase.

Is it about food or money?

trying to find where one can purchase the Kraft
line for South Beach but after reading some of the
comments, maybe it is not for me, I have restricted sodium intake for years.
I tried the Nutri System for the month(plus one
week free) and lost weight but the food is so
terrible tasting it is all I could do to finish
my first shipment. I was hoping Kraft might be
tastier.
I live alone, cook alone and cooking is not a
viable, economic, storage thing for me, designed
packaged foods would be great for me, if I could
stomach them

There are a few other packaged food options - such as Seattle Sutton, Jenny Craig, and a few other smaller outlets.

You tend to find that the better the food the higher the cost. Jenny Craig can become very costly (and you have to sign a contract.

Rather than buying packaged products, why not try cooking in large quantities and freezing them in portions. If this isn't an option, how about the pre-cooked foods that many of the food stores now offer? Again, buy in quantity and feeze if possible. Make sure to check the ingredients tho, as many times there are additives that are just as bad as any commercial packaged product.

http://www.kraft.com/default.aspx has come out with a new line of frozen http://www.southbeachdiet.com entrees http://www.southbeachdiet.com/kraft/kraft.asp

One word: RUN

They are worse than http://www.panerabread.com

For instance, THE SOUTH BEACH DIETâ„¢ FROZEN ENTREES - ENTREE - BEEF & BROCCOLI WITH ASIAN STYLE NOODLES

1 serving, 1050 mg of sodium.

It gets worse, much worse.

Ingredients in this (should be beef, broccoli and noodles, right?) include:
MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SALT, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATES, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, FLAVOR, AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, BEEF FAT, BEEF EXTRACT, (ok, already 5 potential sources of MSG and neurotoxins).

Continues: SMOKE FLAVOR, SPICE EXTRACTIVES, & MODIFIED WHEAT STARCH, WHEAT GLUTEN, WHEAT PROTEIN ISOLATE, MONOGLYCERIDES, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, & MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SPICE & MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, & MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, CHICKEN STOCK, SALT, and AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, SPICE, FLAVOR

This is worse than using NutraSweet for neurotoxin intake. Actually, I'd rather have white bread toast with margarine, sprinkled with NutraSweet then consume this chemical creation.

You can bet alot of folks will like it and become addicted to it. Neurotoxins are added for their addictive nature as much as for taste.

Dr. Arthur Agatston, the author of the original book, had the absolute nerve to say when questioned about the high sodium content, ''We're not saying everybody should have these foods all day by any means . . . but for those on the run . . . these are lifesavers,'' he said.

Life savers? More like hidden killers. Vitalearth.org states, "Studies done with monkeys, dating as far back as 1969, found that MSG causes lesions in the hypothalamus, the portion of the brain that is recognized to affect weight control (as well as functions of the nervous system). Damage to the hypothalamus has been recreated in test after test. And the bad news for humans is that, based on tests of blood plasma levels, humans are 20 times more sensitive to MSG than monkeys; and children are 4 times more sensitive to MSG than adults. Neonatal exposure to MSG causes a permanent reduction in the secretion of growth hormone, leading to stunted growth and irreversible obesity." http://www.vitalearth.org/MSG.htm

A real lifesaver, huh?

Sodium Beach must be stopped. Lowering the sodium content of these disasters is not nearly enough.

Why don't we just learn to eat with a less portion and 6 portions/day. You'll feel full longer but you still can burn more calories too. Also drink lots of water too. It helps your metabolism... www.dreamtobeslim.com
