Fat Gene Discovered?
From UCLA:
UCLA/VA scientists have identified a new gene that controls how the body produces and uses fat. Called lipin, the gene may provide a new target for therapies to control obesity, diabetes and other weight-related disorders.
The basics of fat gain and loss will always be good food choices, and adequate exercise. Blaming everything on your genes is really just excuse-making. HOWEVER - I believe there are genuine genetic and biological differences between people that make it far far easier for some people to melt fat off their bodies. This can be made by basic (anecdotal) observations - there are people out there that do nothing more than eat a little cleaner, and do some cardio, and they get "ripped" - although I believe these genetic superiors are the minority.

Hi, I'm 5'4'' and weight about 103 pounds is that normal for a girl of 13. A while ago I lost like a lot maybe 10 pounds and I wasn't trying how could that happen?

After reading all the posts on this website it has made me feel and bit depressed about my weight and was wondering if i was the correct weight for my hight and age. Also all those girls saying that they are fat when the weigh under 100 pounds are being stupid! Thanks x

Replyim 13 1/2 also and i always considered myself overweight for some unknown reason i guess? i have asked pretty much ANYBODY i know if they think i am n they all said im crazy for thinking i am, im about 5 ft n 105 lbs. now i dont think you're overweight n i feel really, really short now, even though i did before anyways, considering ur 5 n a half n im barely even 5!! since i dont really think my opinion counts that much, i hope you find a proffessional that tells you that you really are normal like i did!! good luck!!
ReplyRose, you still have some time to grow, and you are not fat, you are right. Neither is Cassie. Keep exercising/being active and try to eat real foods, you know, milk, meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit, beans, potatoes, rice, not stuff that comes from a package like cookies, candy, etc. and you'll both remain in great health.
As for the short thing, Rose, if you end up not growing much like I did (I'm 5'1"), it is ok too. It is not a big deal. We'll always envy the tall girls and their long legs and they'll always envy our dainty feet and hands, not to mention, when it comes to dating, since many guys don't wanna date women taller than they are, we have a wider range to choose from.
